Daishi looked down at his empty datapad screen.  No one had requested any new scenarios to be programed into the flight simulators in a very long time and he was starting to get listless.  Despite his many failings Daishi was still willing to do what he could for the Vast Empire Navy and this latest attack was even more motivation for him to get off his duff and start doing something again even if no one was ordering him to. The first thing that crossed his mind were the items he liberated from Erebria recently.  Nothing was more fun then a prank war. Daishi scribled a note reading:  I have gone out to look for myself.  If I should return while I'm away please keep me here until I come back. Leaving the note on his office door, Daishi made way to the hanger bays.  He and Trigit were still the only ones who had TIE Horror fighters still and Daishi could take his out anytime he liked.  While it did not suit his desires for this upcoming mission it would still get him to where he needed to be. Thanks to a few favors and old friends Daishi had a few specially modified frieghtors at his disposal for various tasks.  This trip would take him to two different ones. Daishi climbed slowly into the TIE Horror.  The sixteen missle mounts were in place and the twenty starship kill marks and sixty five fighter kills marks had been freshly painted in blood red just below the cockpit.  The decrative wooden plaque was still there as well when Daishi sat down in the control chair. "Control this is Appex one awaiting launch clearance, flight plan number is one four six nine nine five eight."  Daishi said over the com once he completed his preflight checklist. "Clearance granted, take off on vector six five alpha when ready."  Came the metalic reply of the control droid. Daishi carefully lifted the TIE Horror from it's mourings and glided it gently out into open space. The feel of weightlessness was comforting to him now that there was no battle going on outside of his fighter for the first time in ages. The stars blurred into the familiar grayness of hyperspace once again and Daishi settled in for the thirty three hour flight to his destination. ***thirty three hours later*** Daishi pulled back the activation lever to see his destination come into view. On his scopes were the six bulk frieghtors he was looking for escorted by the corvettes Pimp Mobile and Sweetums.  At least the Fallen Angels were kind enough to return the Sweetums to Daishi after disapearing but he knew he wouldn't find any of them aboard, just a relieved crew that didn't have to deal with thier psychotic tendacies anymore. "Appex one to clearance control.  Today's code is turnover and push.  Seeking tinker and jeep.  Pattern is alpha."  Daishi radieoed. "Clearance granted Appex one.  Welcome back."  Came the familliar voice of Reginold Greyscuttle. "It's been way too long."  Daishi replied mostly to himself. Daishi landed the TIE Horror aboard the Sweetums and waited for it to dock with the two frieghtors he was here to get access to. "What are you planning this time bossman?"  Reginold asked as soon as Daishi stepped down from the egress ladder. "Pack the new stealth system over to jeep from tinker, install it on Nightmare one.  Launch and head to NI space to find some stuff out and stir up some trouble for the NR."  Daishi said back as he immediately made his way to tinker. "Too bad I can't go with you.  We need to move the fleet again, the rest is already at point bravo awaiting us."  The younger Greyscuttle replied. "Thank you.  I'll see you when two weeks from now then."  Daishi replied as he started making his way through the cargo holds of tinker. Grabbing the system he was looking for Daishi immediatly made for jeep. Upon arriving sitting in front of him was something that braught back a lot of memories, Nightmare one.  Daishi had flown a lot of hours in space in this particular fighter and he knew it remembered him too.  The sleek lines of the RZ-41 A-wing still brought about mixed emotions whenever he say this craft but he quickly shoved them aside as he reminded himself that it was for the greater glory of the empire he now served.  Reil Fury was not the only one who didn't like to talk about Endor. Daishi worked quickly changing out the stealth system already preasent in his old fighter with the new one he had some techs develop for him. Changing from his standard Varneck Marine Combat Armor into a New Republic flight suit Daishi began pondering exactly where he would go first and what he would actually destroy.  Then it hit him, he would rid the VE of some of the baggage he had brought with him, and that was worsened by his otherself. Setting the navcom for the Greneth system Daishi closed the canopy and set out on his quest. "Nightmare one is space borne once again.  Clearance control, setting coarse for Hysan Gamble, catch you at point bravo."  Daishi said as he sent the craft into the appropriate vector and pushed the activation lever. This trip was a bit shorter but it was the first leg in order to convince his target that it was not him who was targeting them. For far too long now the Hysan Pirate Clans had been playing the imperial factions and the New Repulic against each other and preying on everyone's shipping. Daishi's subsequent jumps went to systems he didn't know the names of and he didn't care to know.  His last jump would bring him right into the heart of his enemy. As Daishi pulled the activation lever back he saw two Hysan raider frigates in system with one space station. The clans were about to hit something big if they were getting two frigates ready for raiding. Daishi switched the stealth system on and linned up on an attack vector with the space station.  Without that space station the Hysan Pirate Clans wouldn't be able to outfit thier raiding vessals for a very long time and thier response would be directed to the New Republic once Daishi was finished anyway. Switching over to the heavy rocket launchers installed on Nightmare one, Daishi reminded himself how shocked he was the first time he saw an A-wing fire such heavy ordanance.  Everyone believed the A-wing was only good for dog fighting. Firing all ten of his rockets into the station Daishi began lining up on a strafing patern with the closer of the two frigates. The attack patern was classic New Rpublic "we don't want them to think it was us" style.  Satisfied with his work Daishi immediatly set his vector for his outbound jump pattern. The flash of the station exploding reflected in Daishi's cockpit a few seconds before he pushed the activation lever. ***several hours later at point bravo*** "Nightmare one to clearance control.  Today's access code is sasifrase.  Loading jeep.  Pattern is alpha."  Daishi said as he saw the ships still willing to follow him after helping him liberate his homeworld in front of him. "Roger Nightmare one, clearance is granted.  There is also a message here for you from the VEN command, doesn't say who sent it on the coding sequence and it is coded for your eyes only."  Reginold Greyscuttle's voice returned. [Enough for tonight, maybe more tommorrow.]

Daishi was quite satisfied with his work.  Allready reports of increased pirate activity in NR space were reaching him. Soon now the VE would be rid of one nuisance forever. Next on Daishi's list was to put the NI back in it's place.  He knew that they would soon sense the weakness in the VE production capabilities and the redisposition of ships. "Ready Nightmare five for launch.  Nightmare one won't work a second time, especially against the NI."  Daishi said into the comm in his office aboard the Sweetums. Daishi strolled toward the docking attachment that lead to the freightor known as 'jeep.'  His next target was going to be a much more difficult assignment.  The best craft he had available that could acomplish his desired task was one of four Assault Gunboats. Selecting the one he spent some time in as flight leader of Nightmare flight two, Daishi swaped his NR flight gear for NI flight gear. Daishi knew if he got captured no one would come after him, after all he was just another old man out on a crazy shooting spree as far as most in the VE were concerned.  Besides his plan would backfire if he were captured, even the most stoic person could not resist interogation forever. Checking the warhead payload and gritting his teeth Daishi completed the rest of his preflight checklist. Hopefully they hadn't reinforced the garison at his target by now. "Nightmare five ready for launch.  Target is Vol remembered."  Daishi said as he flew clear of the frieghtor's make shift hanger doors. Daishi plotted a six jump path to his target and settled in for a rather long nap. *** a few hours later*** The automated jump sequncer sounded the chime that was designed to wake Daishi and let him know they were almost to the intended target. Pulling back on the activation lever when the counter reached zero Daishi started to count sensor blips as soon as he entered real space again. No capital warships but there were a trio of frieghtors, six cargo ferries, two nerfvettes, three X-wings, and two B-wings. Daishi pushed the throttle to max and armed the warhead launchers.  Aiming very preciscly Daishi proved how good of a shot he could be with the heavy ordinance of a volly of heavy rockets. Daishi knew the freightors would be scrap for certain but the cargs would survive the volly he fired at them. The rest were the icing on the cake. Flashes of red alerted Daishi that the enemy escort were retaliating. The X-wings were trying to box him in while the B-wings flanked him.  The enemy obviously knew that thier opponent had to be good if he was sent into battle with no escort, and was worthy of capture and interogation. Daishi manuevered in a tight spin to keep the blasts from getting too close while still diving on the convoy to finish off his primary targets. Switching his guns to full linked fire Daishi began strafing the first carg and put a few shots into the other on his outbound leg. The escorting fighters were setting up another attack pattern while Daishi brought his gunboat back around to finish off both the cargs in one run. The green and blue light of his guns intersected with the lead carg until it finally blew.  The other didn't take many shots before it went as well. Again the red light of enemy laser fire filled Daishi's viewport.  They were still intent on capturing him. Daishi dove straight into thier trap, laughing all the way. "Not bad, now to get you to do my work for me Green two."  Daishi said to himself. Daishi aimed right for a head on with one of the blocking X-wings and set his deflectors to full forward.  Daishi cringed as Green two started working his aft shields. "Just a little more...  There got ya."  Daishi said as he pitched and rolled. The X-wing never saw the B-wing collide with him.  Now was Daishi's chance to escape in one piece. Setting his escape vectors Daishi waited for the counter tor reach zero and pushed the activation lever forward. On his way back Daishi pondered if the NI in specific would be targeted by the NR's response or if all factions would be targeted.  Either way Daishi knew with the bloody nose the VEN gave them the last time they faught an engagement the NR wouldn't be willing to pour forces int the same meat grinder again just to see them get destroyed once more. ***later at Point Bravo*** "Nightmare five to clearance control, today's passcode is shmuck and berry.  Loading jeep.  Pattern is beta."  Daishi said over the comm too tired to do much more then land. "Clearance granted.  Welcome back bossman."  Reginold Greyscuttle responded. [Whew this is the most effort I've put into posting stories in quite a while]

[I just need to borrow someone fictionally, I got this otherwise.  I'll go through the AWOL list when I'm feeling a bit less tired unless someone wants to volunter.] Things were begining to go as Daishi had planned.  Now only one thing remained, to get the NI to turn his bluff against the NR into a winning hand.  For this he would need at least one more person to help him. Daishi started to ponder where he could get a wingman.  He was the only qualified pilot for quite some parsecs.  Even some of the ones he could get a hold of Daishi didn't trust, most the others wouldn't do what he required of them. His other self was embroiled in a conflict on some forgotten back water world for who knows what psychotic fun. Daishi looked down at the supply list in front of him.  He was running low on warheads. Daishi filled out the appropriate paper work and sent the request to VEN logistics.  If he was lucky he'd get the things he needed, including an available pilot. For now all he could do was sit back and wait.

[I've got my victim... um I mean wingman, don't worry incase he becomes unAWOL I'll keep him alive.] Daishi watched as the supply ship dropped out of hyperspace.  He knew most of his requests for supplies had been filled by the size of the ship. Checking the ident of the pilot they sent him he found it to be Ez8, a capable pilot but with a propencity to go AWOL. Daishi watched as the clearance codes he supplied to VEN logistics months ago came through.  They were even flying the proper formation and pattern. "Clearance control to frieghtor 169524, you are clear to dock with frieghtor pawn."  Daishi said as he watched the frieghtor complete it's approach pattern. The docking went smoothly and frieghtor pawn signaled all clear. "Dock with pawn and jeep.  Begin transfer procedures when ready and get me an inventory of what they sent us."  Daishi said as he made his way down to the docking bay connected to pawn. Daishi saw the young pilot standing right on the other side of the docking ring. "Pilot Ez8 reporting as ordered sir."  Ez8 said with a sharp salute. "Relax, you're dealing with someone a little less intent on following protocals then they used to be.  I'll need to check you out on Nightmare two before we begin our mission.  Follow me and we'll get that taken care of while the neccessary gear for our mission is being transfered from pawn to jeep."  Daishi replied waving off the salute. Daishi lead his wingman through the maze of corridors to the frieghtor jeep.  Flipping on the lights in the hanger of the ship Daishi chuckled at the mixed expression on Ez8's face. "That's right Nightmare two is a RZ-41 A-wing.  The entire first flight of Nightmare squadron are A-wings.  The other two gunboats of flight two are in the other hanger and the flight of TIE Avengers that round out the squadron as well.  I kinda had to steal them from the NI though they don't belong to the NI.  In fact they belong to me now as I never resigned my commission or retired from the faction that used to own these.  I'm rambling again aren't I?"  Daishi said still amused at the shock on Ez8's face. "I've been trained to shoot these down and now you're telling me you need me to fly this thing?"  Ez8 broke the silince. "Don't worry it isn't too hard to swallow the idea.  Once I got over the thought I was flying a rebel craft I had no trouble at all flying the thing."  Daishi said lying out of his rear extremity. Daishi was fine with flying rebel craft for an entirely different reason, back when he was serving his homeworld's Planetary Defense Force they flew improved X-wings and improved Y-wings until the Empire came along and added them into the fold. "If you say so sir."  Ez8 replied with hesitation in his face and voice. "Get changed into the flight suit in locker, let's see the pilot of Nightmare four was about your size, one dash four."  Daishi said as  he watched Ez8 reluctantly comply. Ez8 walked back out into the hanger wearing a flight suit entirely too big for him. "Sorry just had to see if you would actually do it even though you saw it was obviously wrong.  Besides it was funny.  One dash two will actually fit you almost perfectly."  Daishi said barely able to hold his laughter back at the rediculous sight. Ez8 just glared at Daishi as he went back into the locker room. "Ah there you go Captain Joe Forest.  Now let's get cracking."  Daishi said as he climbed into Nightmare one. Ez8 climbed into Nightmare two with some visible aprehension. "The preflight check list is actually just the same as a TIE Avenger.  Don't let the different layout of the instruments fool you this craft is rather forgiving to fly."  Daishi said over the comm once Ez8 was in. "Allright now what?"  Ez8 replied. "We get space borne.  Clearance control this is Nightmare one.  Departure code is yimmer.  Target is training field.  Flight time will be two hours round trip plus another hour of training time."  Daishi said as the hanger doors opened. "I'm not sure if I'm ready for this sir."  Ez8 said as he saw the starfield come into view. "Me either but at least we both know where we stand.  Now raise the gear and push forward on the throttle very gently, we're leaving a hanger not racing."  Daishi said as he glided Nightmare one out into space. Nightmare two came out into space as well, a little wobly but otherwise fine. "Now we need to get you used to the performance chararistics of an A-wing.  Perhaps a little follow the leader?"  Daishi said as he manuevered toward an asteroid field. "You're on."  Ez8 replied getting some of his confidence back. Daishi chuckled as he pushed the throttle to max and went straight for one of the larger ones on the edge. Several tight turns were made to go around the smaller asteroids in the way and Ez8 was still with him. The large one Daishi was heading for was a test even for his skill.  Not an ace pilot like the legendary Donitz, Daishi still had some skill and fight in him. The cave network made several sharp turns that even Daishi had trouble making sometimes.  He just hoped he wouldn't kill Ez8 just trying to train him. As ussual Daishi bounced off the first turn and the second.  Making the third was a bit easier.  Four and five were the deadly ones.  Daishi managed four quite easily.  Five snuck up and bounced Daishi around a bit but he made it out alive thanks to the shields. Checking behind him he saw Ez8 in foramtion with no damage to his craft showing. "Time to bring it back to the barn.  These kinds of manuevers eat fuel.  Clearance control this is Nightmare one.  The word for today is pummel.  Loading jeep.  Formation is left abreast.  Pattern is alpha."  Daishi said as the two of them lined up for landing. "Why do you do that sir, obviously they know who we are?"  Ez8 asked. "Not neccessarily.  A-wings have a stealth system in them good enough to beat anything from a Nebulon-B frigate on down.  Just a couple weeks ago at Point Omicron a NR A-wing reconed the fleet but was shot down before he could get away because he didn't give the proper clearance code to get that close to the fleet.  Don't forget that because it will come in very handy when we attack our next target.  We only spotted them because the freightor sentinal has an ISD's sensor array mounted in it."  Daishi replied. "I see.  No wonder they are so difficult to dog fight sometimes."  Ez8 said as the two set down. "For now get some rest.  Tommorrow we attack.  I'll give you a briefing on the way."  Daishi trailed off as he left the hanger. [If anyone has an objection to my AWOLee selection please let me know now, so that I may change it]

Daishi walked into the briefing room aboard the Sweetums and found Ez8 waiting for him.  Things had gone well in the real flight training and Daishi thought maybe, just maybe, they could pull this off. "Our mission is to take Nightmare one and Nightmare two into New Imperium space and make a reconasiance sweep.  I do not believe we can convince the New Imperium that a two A-wing strike force is all that they would send against even the most insignificant target.  So we are going to recon thier shipyards and get out."  Daishi said as he pointed to a system on the starchart behind him. "If attacked can we engage?"  Ez8 asked. "Most certainly yes.  While the NI is rather arrogant, thay are not particullary perceptive so it doesn't really matter how you fly your A-wing while doing so."  Daishi replied. "Are we allowed warheads?"  Ez8 moved on to his next question. "Yes. Advanced Concusion missles, a full load since my requisition request was granted."  Daishi said as he waited for the next question. "Expected oposition?" Ez8 inquired. "Mostly unshielded TIEs will be encountered but expect them to break out the bigger stuff once they figure out the smaller stuff doesn't work against two ace A-wing pilots like us."  Daishi replied with a silly grin on his face. "When do we leave?"  Ez8 asked as he got up from his chair. "As soon as we've changed."  Daishi replied as he left the room first followed closely by Ez8. The two pilots changed quickly and quietly.  Things were about to get serious.  Daishi had very little real inteligence as to what they find for oposition but knowing the NEw Imperium his guess of mostly unshielded TIEs couldn't be too far off. Climbing into the cockpit of Nightmare one Daishi thought back to his days in the Intruder Wing and how he was supposed to be doing this sort of stuff all the time but he never did it once.  The irony had come full circle. "Clearance control, this is Nightmare one.  Departure code is blue berry.  Target is hephestus.  See you at Point Charlie."  Daishi said as he throttled his A-wing out of the hanger. Daishi watched Ez8 enter hyperspace and pushed his own activation lever not even a second later. This trip was going to be the most boring since it was the longest and ships in hyperspace can't comunicate. ***two days later*** Afte completing several jumps to make sure the NI would believe the NR was scouting out one of thier shipyards, Daishi looked out over the target area.  He and Ez8 were on thier own if something went wrong. "I'll start with the facilities themselves.  You get started on the parked ships.  Keep your speed up and all you'll have to worry about are the fighters."  Daishi said as he punched the throttle to maximum. "Roger that lead."  Ez8 replied as he followed suit. So far the garrison hadn't been scrambled but that could be due to the stealth systems in the two craft they were flying.  Daishi knew that there would eventually be something that could spot them once they got close enough. After scanning many of the smaller facilities Daishi's sensor lock warning indicator light up.  The main factory station had detected him. Daishi knew that the last communication he sent out was too quick and too far out to let the NI know there were two scout craft.  Soon enough Ez8 would be spotted by the main facility as well. The blips started coming out of the hangers of some ships and the main facility. "So you want to play already.  bad news boys, I've already got the scan data I need."  Daishi said to himself as he pulled away from the shipyard to join up with Ez8. "They've spotted me lead.  Got two flights of squints inbound."  Ez8 said as he pulled away from the last ship to be scanned. "Form up on my wing.  We'll try and get out without fighting if we can.  If not, we'll make them sorry they tried to stop us."  Daishi replied. The two of them were too close to the gravity well of a near by planet still but they wouldn't for long. "Frak I got a whole mess of eyeballs between us and our jump point.  Set deflectors full forward and may the force be with you."  Daishi couldn't believe he said the rebel spew but it would convince the NI that they were NR pilots since only NR pilots said 'may the force be with you'. Daishi armed his warhead launchers and targeted an enemy fighter.  Without waiting for the lock on Daishi pulled the trigger and switched back to lasers and held his course. Firing a quick burst Daishi knew his opponent wouldn't see the missle until it was too late. Daishi watched Ez8 blast two of them with lasers and fly right through the first line. "Second defensive line coming up.  Almost to jump point."  Daishi said as he evaded enemy fire and blasted three eyeballs himself. "I count twenty seconds until we reach the jump point at this rate."  Ez8 said excitedly. "Right, forget about tangling with the eyballs and just make a run for it.  We got the data we need so let's get out of here."  Daishi said as he just dove through the enemy's fire. Pushing the activation lever Daishi set a course with seven diversionary jumps over the next two days before they finally went back to Point Charlie. ***two days later*** "Well I need to see about getting you back to the fleet Ez8 now that you've completed my mission.  Once we get back to the Sweetums I'll buy you a drink.  Clearance control this is Nightmare one.  Today's code is darenger.  Loading jeep borrowing Sweetums.  Patern is alpha. "Clearance granted Nightmare one.  We got a shower and a nice shot of burbon waiting for you."  The voice of Reginold filled Daishi's headset. The Sweetums felt like a palatial hotel after spending four days and two hours in the cockpit of an A-wing. "Have the fleet move back to Point Alpha before the Sweetums departs to return myself, Ez8 and the TIE Horror to the VEN."  Daishi said to Reginold Greyscuttle as soon as he got out of the cockpit. The walk to the shower was painfull but by the time he had cleaned up, Daishi felt much better. The barstool was hard for Daishi to sit on but it felt relaxing after what he had been through.  Ez8 filled the one right next to him. "Remind me not to do that again because I'm getting too old for this stuff."  Daishi said as he poured the two fo them a shot of burbon each. "Why burbon sir?"  Ez8 asked. "It was the tradition of Appex squadron that after each succesfull mission they would celebrate with one shot of burbon.  They would then finish the night with more burbon if they had the next day off or club soda if they were due for another patrol.  I unfortunately have to work tommorrow, besides I've already had my limit for the night.  I used to drink enough to get drunk but the last time I did that I had a hallucination about some kind of bird and had an explosives handleing accident.  I swore never again would I get drunk enough to impair my ability to responsibly handle explosives.  I may be a madman by most people's standards but I do not blow up my allies or abandon them when I have a choice."  Daishi said as he set the full shot glass back down. "I never knew.  That's really different then what most people have told me about you."  Ez8 replied. "That is the work of my less responsibl other self.  Once it becaome public knowladge in the VE that there are two of me I let myself go a little nuts as well just so I could have fun with my work.  Now adays I'm content to sit back and program the training simulators because I'm getting too old for this psycho terrorist stuff and even my more unstable other self is starting to realize that."  Daishi said as he left the bar. As soon as Daishi's head hit the pillow he was out like a light.  Soon after he woke up he and Ez8 would be able to go back aboard the Atrus. With that last thought on his mind Daishi had dreams of his old fallen comrades, old and new.

Daishi had shuffled back to the Sweetums with lack of anything else to do.  Life was boring again and for once Daishi had the energy to do something but now no one was asking anything of him. The emptyness of the bar filled by the pressence of one more person.  Daishi didn't even have to look to know who it was. "I knew it was a mistake giving you a clearance code.  So what brings you to my home away from home?"  Daishi said as he swung around to face Riel Fury. "I have something for you to do if you really want.  It'll be dangerous but at least it beats sitting around and living in past glories to bide your time."  Riel Fury replied back. "Well all right maybe I'll give you the clearance code for departure then."  Daishi said with a half smile on his face and sarcasim in his voice. "There are some pilots on an inteligence mission to an important target.  What I need from you is a diversion to get the rebels focusing thier attention away from the target.  I figure since your otherself is a bit busy I'd have to settle for you.  I'm willing to bet just the presance of the third most wanted man in the New Republic would be enough to draw attention away from the main information gathering unit.  The risk is great but we desperatly need the information that is being gathered.  Concentrate on the Sullust region of space for best results.  I won't order you to do this because of the extreme danger to yourself but I'm willing to bet you'll get out in one piece."  Riel Fury replied as he sat in the bar stoll next to Daishi. "Well then I'll see you in two weeks so that we may share  some of the fine burbon that I have hidden away."  Daishi retorted as he started formulating a plan. Like he told Ez8, he was getting too old for the psycho terrorist thing but Riel was right just his mere pressance could draw half the intelince opperatives in the area to his location.  Only Death Wokkie and Argon Viper were more wanted then he was and that was only because he didn't eat his prisoners, unless they were Gungans, they tasted good grilled with an orange sauce with a fine white wine to drink. "Once Riel Fury is clear set course for Operation Point Able in the Sluis Van system."  Daishi said as he began preperations.

The mission to Sluis Van had been far more boring than Daishi had hoped for but he had done all he could to make sure things went they way they were planned. Soon things would heat up.  He had come into possession of some disturbing intel reports and he had already shown them to his otherself.  Soon everything would break apart. [For more fun stuff check out Varneck Inheritor Nergal on the storynet, Geist should have the first episode ready by the end of the week.]
