  Hades: Rainfall
December 7, 2011 7:59:11 AM    View the profile of Hades
Hades smelt it before it happened. The rain began to fall, lightly at first, small drops with little to no concentration of downfall, dampening but not drenching everything. Then the skies opened and the rain fell, harder than before with large drops in heavily concentrated downpours, drenching anything that had the capability of being drenched. Lightning flashed, followed several seconds later by a deep rumbling thunder, so loud that it could have come from the planet's core. This cycle continued.. flash, boom, flash, boom.. in an endless repetition that was known widely as a thunderstorm.

Hades rested his chin on his hand gently, watching out the window. He enjoyed the rain, the cool it brought and the life it created.. but he disliked thunderstorms. He was not afraid of them, far from it, but rather, he despised the chaos they brought. The natural power that they held, to destroy, to wreak havoc. He despised their rebellion against the calm of normality.

Hades gazed up into the storm. Not into the storm, exactly,  but through it, where he knew an Imperial Strike-class Cruiser lurked in orbit
'One day,' Hades vowed, 'One day I'll be up there, and help bring order to this galaxy of chaos.' Hades longed to hold the power that the Empire did. Not the power, exactly, but the ability to create stability from chaos.. to quell turmoil. Hades brought his own sort of order to his section of Nar Shaddaa, after all, he ran the largest and most well organised youth gang on the entire planet.

The gang had started unwittingly when Hades was on the cusp of his 4th birthday. The morning of his birthday, he - and the deserter, Jarv - had encountered for the first time, 5 other stray children. They had grown from there, exactly 14 years ago, and Hades had become their leader. He had given them food, shelter, protection.. a new life. 14 years ago? Time had flown by almost as if when Hades blinked, a year passed. But, now he was 18 years old, and had been an orphan form the better part of 15 years after running away from home.

Hades stood, bringing himself to his height of 179 centimeters. A black customised version of an Imperial Officer's uniform covered his form, perfectly pressed and ironed. Hades had always envied the Imperial Officers he saw on the holo-news - and so he tried to be as like them as possible. He even had the black gloves of an officer - one of his favoured pieces of apparel.

Hades strode down the corridor, boots clicking against the floor of the old military base - it had been abandoned eight years ago by a gang that had been put out of business, and Hades' youth gang had moved in almost immediately, taking it for their own . He descended the stairs and entered the barracks, where he was greeted by a cacophony of greetings - it seemed everyone was happy to see him. He looked around, and that was when he saw the banners and decorations.

Jarv approached him, something in his hand.

"Happy birthday, Hades" he said, smiling widely. Hades only then remembered that today was in fact his birthday. He saw the crowd of youths gathered in the barracks - all of them except for those stationed on guard duty. Jarv pressed two small objects into his hand. Hades looked at them in astonishment.

There were two, gleaming silver code cylinders in his hand - those normally worn by Imperial Officers. Hades began to grin, placing the code cylinders in their proper place on his uniform, when another youth stepped forward, handing Hades a gift - wrapped this time.

Hades unwrapped it carefully, and to his further amazement found - an Imperial Rank Insignia, or to be more specific, a Commander's rank bars. Hades felt his grin spread wider, as he boyishly examined his gift.

"We all know how much you love Imperial stuff, and so we got you these. Not much, I know, but..." Jarv spoke, still smiling. "Seeing as how you have always lead the Youth Guard-" Jarv and Hades had agreed on the name 'youth guard' for their gang, a few years earlier-"we decided we'd bestow upon you the rank of Commander!" Jarv finished.

Hades could not contain his smile, his happiness. They had not only remembered his birthday, but gotten him a gift he would remember for the rest of his life. He felt his eyes brimming with tears of happiness - of pride.
"So, what are your orders Commander?" ---

Hades' chrono beeped loudly, snapping him out of his dream. More accurately, his recollection. It woke him to another day of being unassigned Crewman Hades. A nobody. All those years ago on Nar Shaddaa, he had been a commander - a leader, he had been SOMEBODY.. somebody important, but now.. now he was just another pilot waiting assignation. Nobody important.

Hades frowned at himself. He sounded like a whining child. As he had thought to himself before - he served the Empire because he believed they could bring order, peace, to this galaxy. If they needed one more pilot, unassigned, then he would be that pilot until as long as it was required of him.

He brushed away thoughts of bitterness and laziness, instead thinking positive thoughts. Perhaps he would be assigned today. Perhaps he'd go for another skill test.. say, Ship tactics. This made Hades grin. He would get to command a ship of his own.. a simulated ship, for a short amount of time.. but a ship nonetheless.

Today might not be so bad after all.

"This is not a cattle market in Shaum Hii, Lieutenant Tschel. This is the bridge of an Imperial Star Destroyer. Routine information is not—repeat, not—simply shouted in the general direction of its intended recipient. Is that clear?"
