As it happens, I have been in discussion with the HC over this issue.

I hereby officially announce the creation of the Vast Empire Marine Corps. I have been selected to act as its first Commandant. The rank and position structure is still being worked out, and I will welcome input on it. Membership is open to those that expect to play The Old Republic (and, once it is released, those that are actually playing it). At this time, there is no plan for a fiction section of the division - it is intended to be the VE-site side of the in-game guild (which will likely take on the name . I don't object to creating a sub-forum for those that feel the writing itch, but it isn't likely to be a focus of the division, and it will not be a requirement for members.

A section has been added to the roster to incorporate the Marine Corps (though I have yet to populate it), and a dedicated section of Comnet forums will be opened here before too long.

On that note, if you intended to play The Old Republic with us, go ahead and make a post here so I will know to include you in the roster. If you aren't sure if you will play, let us know that as well - I won't add you to the roster just yet, but it will help me to get an idea of how many people are looking to be included in this endeavor.

I fully expect that people will probably have different names in game than they use on the site (I probably will). They'll probably also play multiple characters (I know I will), though one's rank/position in the division will likely only depend upon one's main character. Probably. I'm still working out the details.

Edit: Ultimately the site's roster and comnet will be used to support and clarify guild duties (if any) and organization.

I expect my two main characters will be Topheth (a Sith Juggernaut) and Japheth (likely a Sith Sorcerer, maybe an Assassin, unsure yet). I'll probably play one of everything though, to see the stories and to try out different mechanics and play-styles.

Anyway, I'm thinking that the basic unit will eventually become a 'Fire Team' that will consist of two dps, a healer, and a tank. Positions in these fire teams will likely be voluntary as people find others in the guild that have similar availability to themselves and who enjoy playing together. Fire teams would be a quick and easy way to find other people for Flashpoints and Warzones. Multiple Fire Teams could band together for Operations or larger-scale Warzone queuing. Not everyone would be required to be a member of a Fire Team.

Rank will be a semi-arbitrary measure of experience with the game and of general in-division command authority. Positions could include Fire Team Leaders, Operations Commanders, Warzone Specialists, and various class specialists. We'll also have some general administrative and support positions, likely including some sort of banker, some recruitment personnel, and whatever else seems useful or necessary. I'm completely open to further advice on how to structure the division and the guild as they are put together.

Currently in-game it looks like there are only 3 ranks - Member, Officer, Guild Leader - I'm hoping that they change that, because it would make organization a lot easier. We'll see.

I don't have any real MMORPG experience to qualify for in-game leadership roles for quite a while, but I do have an interest in money matters (and a basic background in it), etc and would be more than willing to help out as a banker or in any other administrative role.

My main will likely be an as yet un-named Imperial Agent, with my most-used secondary probably being a Zabrak Sith Juggernaut named Reprimar.

You know I never sleep anyway, Raz... the Europeans and insomniacs can start a Fire Team. 

Cool. We've got our own forum section now. But might I suggest that we push it up above the Army section? If we're bringing in gamers through SWTOR eventually, some may start out rather lacking in attention span. Going higher with it wouldn't be a bad thing, especially since it ought to stay rather small.

I'd love to play, but as of right now, it doesn't look like my computer will be able to handle the game. So unfortunately, I will be sitting on the sidelines until I can get something that'll run it

Is there going to be a sort of demo for TOR, like with SWG?

I was curious as to why I had the new rank under my old one, then I noticed it was for this. lol. Thought I had a glitch or something having the same rank twice.
