A10, Slicing
Mox woke up.
“It's today....” Mox said to himself, with his eyes still closed “I'm finally going to be a certified slicer....”
He got up, walked into the living room, and prepared breakfast.
Maybe now Joamer is going to allow me to have a DataPad...Mox thought
Nah... not possible He quickly ate his breakfast, as he wanted to get his certification as fast as he could. After he finished eating it, he got up and put the dishes in the sink. He walked up to his cupboard and opened it. His new CompForce armor.
“
The perfected Scout Armor....” Mox said as he let go of the handles and grabbed the armor “
At least in my opinionHe took it of the hooks in the cupboard, and put it on. He got the rest of his items, and left the room. He walked up to the barrier and looked around. The Army base on Tadath was always a spectacular view. He took out his DataPad, logged into Vast Empire network and looked for the Army Base map. After he found it, he located the Simulation Chambers.
I'm supposed to enter Simulation Chamber.... 6 He put the DataPad into his pocket and starting walking towards the Simulation Room.
As he walked he saw a pole, about a meter away from him, outside the balcony, that would allow him to get to the roof. He smiled, stopped walking, backed to the wall and started running towards it, he made three jumps, first jump on the barrier, second on the pole and the third one off the pole onto the roof. He landed easily.
This base is perfect, better then the Republican one! Mox thought to himself as he began to jog towards the Simulation Chamber, while jumping over, sliding beneath, and running over obstacles. After 5 minutes he was there, as he didn't have to go through all the corridors. He then looked around. The roof now covered the whole area, and there was not a single hole.
“Frak....” Mox said as he looked into the ventilation shaft. “Here we go again”
Mox ran towards the Ventilation Shaft, and, using the momentum, kicked the shift open. He then had to crawl through the ventilation system. Using the DataPad he was able to manoeuvre to the nearest ventilation exit, without getting from the Simulation Chamber too far. When he got to it, he kicked it open and crawled outside. He then landed quietly, as he found himself in someone’s apartment. He tried to get out, but the door was locked. Hoping that there was noone outside, he kicked the open and sprinted toward the chamber. When he got there, he was still 10 minutes early.
“Oh, you're here...” the instructor said when Mox knocked and entered the room.
“Sir, Mox reporting for Slicer training, sir!”
“Stand down, shut up and listen” the instructor said with a bored voice “You are going to step into that chamber and use your... creative... thinking to get out of there alive.... the only thing I'm telling you is that you are in a ship, and that you are returing from a mission. There is no other slicer on board, so whatever happens, it's up to you.”
“O.... k.... so... I don't know anything?” Mox asked, trying his hardest to take the instructor seriously.
“Yes...” instructor replied “so... you mind getting in there?”
“Yeah sure...” Mox said turning around and looking into inactivated sphere.
He walked into it and waited a few seconds. Then the instructor fired up the Simulator and Mox found himself on a ship. Everybody was running around and red alarm was sounding. Mox looked around and didn't know what's going on. He picked out a crew member and grabbed him, almost making him do a back flip around his hand.
“Hey, what's going on?” Mox asked
“Are you deaf?” the crewman asked?
“Shut up! And tell the whole story!”
“Well, we were attacked by e republican fighter, and he destroyed the pilot cabin. The cannon, and aiming systems were still operational so he was destroyed before he did any other damage.”
“So why is everybody running around, if the auto-pilot's still on?” Mox asked
“That's the problem, there is an asteroid coming around the planet, and if we maintain our current course, we are going to collide with it in about ten minutes!” crewman replied, freed himself from Mox's grip and ran somewhere. Mox was thinking the whole situation over. He then grabbed another crewman.
“Where is a terminal from which I could hack into the ship mainframe?” Mox asked
“How the hell am I supposed to know??? Wait, I think there was a socket in the corridor, that is if you have the tool.... what are you going to do?”
“Don't worry” Mox replied, threw him away and started to walk towards towards the socket. He disconnected the current plug and used his DataPad to connect to the ship. He then tried to connect to the mainframe but a firewall stopped him. It asked him for an password.
A password... Mox looked over what he could connect to and found the communication hub. He bite he tongue, as he connected to it.
Communication is not going to give me much Instead he loaded up a command prompt, and quickly typed in a command that most security systems were not protected from.
Bingo... new user created... unfortunately I don't have all of the privileges, but a quick change in the files in the core system should allow me to stop the engines... Mox typed in the Find command in search of his username that he created. As there wasn't many files, and the content of them was rather basic, he managed to find himself.
Now.... it's protected against rewriting. Mox opened a new file, and opened the user one.
Ok... now to find that privilege option. He glanced at the clock and was terrified to see that only 4 minutes were left till collision.
It's too late to avoid it.... but shutting down the engines should stop the ship from accelerating so the asteroid would only collide with the already destroyed bridge. He began the copying of the new file, and when it asked for overwrite, Mox deleted the old filed, and authorised the overwrite. Normally a deletion of a used user file on such a basic system would a cause a system crash, which would take five minutes to reboot. That would shut down the engines, but also Life Support. Luckily, because it was immediately replaced by the new file, the system haven't noticed anything. Mox logged out, and logged back on, with the new privileges. Now, he found the ship engine interface, and commenced the engine shut-down procedure.
“Warning! Engine shutdown commenced. Autopilot is being shutdown.” the voice from the speakers all around the ship said
Everybody started cheering. Mox looked at the DataPad. 30 seconds left. He wondered what is going to happen to him now. 20 seconds. He waited there so he could turn the engines and the autopilot back on after the collision. 10 seconds. He wondered what the RAIDERS are doing.
5 seconds. Mox sad down waiting for the violent strike.
Suddenly the whole ship shook. Everyone that was standing fell on the floor, and Mox fell on the said, only to get up. He looked at the data showed by the analysis. The shields generators turned offline and the bridge was lost. He stood up and walked up to the window. The bridge module was floating away, along with the asteroid. Mox sat back down, only to restart the engines.
At that point the simulation ended.
