Heavy Weapons Specialist
Level Three
Story One: Small Arms Repair
Skarr's boots clacked on the hallway floors, echoing. It had felt like a long time since he had set foot into the classroom portion of the Tadath base. He wondered exactly why the next lesson would take place in a classroom. If he even knew what his next lesson would be, he might have an idea.
He stepped through the door to find Moor standing at the front of the room, checking his chrono. The room was full of worktables and students. The students were other soldiers, some trainees, some active soldiers. On the worktables sat the E-11 blaster, something he was sick of seeing. Next to them was a set of tools.
Moor looked up at Skarr and grinned, "You finally made it. You've been keeping these students for a minute now, get to your workstation." Skarr checked his own chrono, he was sure he was on time. He was.
Skarr walked over to one of the empty worktables, nodding and greeting the other soldiers. The set of tools, as far as he could tell, was complete. He looked up at Moor who was still waiting at the front of the class.
Without warning, Moor began, "Welcome class, today's lesson is practical and hands on. Before you is an E-11 blaster and there is something wrong with each one. It is up to you to repair it. The manuals are beside you if you are not yet familiar with the E-11.
Skarr chuckled, this should actually be easy. The reason it would be so easy is the reason Skarr was so sick of the E-11. His mentor, Jared Nolac, had relentlessy drilled the manual into Skarr's mind. He had said that Skarr needed to know the E-11 inside and out. He looked around to see everybody already at work.
Time to get to work as well, Skarr thought. He picked up the E-11 and the diagnostics reader out of the tool kit. Skarr ran the reader over the E-11 and waited for the display to show what was wrong with the blaster.
The reader's display blinked. The battery's casing was cracked and the tibanna gas cylinder was empty. Skarr picked up one of the tools, a simple screwdriver, and began unscrewing the grip. The battery's casing was cracked and it took a simple lever to pop the battery out. He reached into a drawer in the worktable and drew out two items, a new battery and a tibanna gas cylinder.
Skarr placed the new battery into the grip and screwed the plating back into place. Next he unscrewed the casing around the body of the weapon, right after the barrel. The cylinder sat inside and Skarr easily lifted it out of it's niche in the weapon. He very carefully placed the potentially explosive full cylinder wher it belonged.
A few more minutes and the weapon was back together. He ran the diagnostics scanner back over the weapon and realized he had made a mistake. He had forgotten to wire the battery to the weapon. Skarr sighed and opened the grip casing again. He untangled the small clump of wires and began hooking them back up to the battery. He consulted the manual only once to check the position of the wiring.
He was done soon after and took the E-11 up to Moor. Moor examined the weapon and used his own diagnostic reader to scan the weapon. The older Sergeant smiled and handed the E-11 back to Skarr.
"You did good Skarr, now I have a question for you," Moor said. Skarr nodded and followed Moor to the door of the classroom.
"Now Norith, you cannot say anything of this to anyone," Moor cautioned. Skarr nodded, it had to be serious then.
"I need you to keep an eye out on that recruit," Moor said, pointing to one of the younger looking recruits. He was working meticulously on the E-11. He looked like he had taken it completely apart and was rebuilding it. Skarr looked back at Moor.
"Why?" Skarr asked.
Moor grunted, "No recruit should be able to do that. Not one as young as him. And not with his record."
"Record?" Skarr asked, still confused.
"He has no military record at all and no training. He shouldn't be able to do that," Moor explained. Skarr nodded, no he shouldn't.
"You think he's a spy?" Skarr asked. Moor nodded and shushed Skarr. Moor motioned for him to leave.
Skarr once again stood alone in the hall. He didn't know if he passed the spec, but he had a mission now. Skarr had to uncover a spy. But whether he
was a spy or not was the question. He may just have an affinity for weapons. Then again all was not always as it seemed.
He made his way back to his room. Then realized that Moor had not given Skarr the recruit's name.
Well there's more than one way to find that out, Skarr thought. Skarr picked up some of his gear, looking for an excuse to go back to the classroom.
When he got back to the classroom, the students were leaving. He spotted the possible spy heading his way. Skarr trotted up to the recruit.
"Hey you," Skarr called. The recruit stopped and looked over Skarr.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"I've seen you around the barracks every once in awhile," which was a lie, "What's your name?"
The recruit pondered that for a moment. "My name is Keth." Skarr filed the name away. He had the recruit's name now.
"I'm Skarr. Wanna go for a drink?"

- Oh wow, a spy, very nice twist. Seriously the way you are getting these stories to flow together is brilliant. Technically very nice, saw no spelling errors at all. Good detail on the E-11 and loved the character development about Skarr. Keep it up. PASS
