Story One: Fire Support Tactics

Skarr stood next to three other recruits. One of the training sergeants paced in front of them. He bore a look of utter boredom and his face, but Skarr seen the man's eyes held a keen interest.

"I am Sergeant Moor. I'm here to put you all through your first exercises. You all have your different assignments and this will be your first test of team work." the sergeant explained.

Moor gestured to the training field. "Now get to your objective as fast as you can. And I don't want casualties which means Skarr," The sergeant pointed to Skarr, "you lay down as much covering fire as you can." Skarr saluted.

The leader of the squad yelled out, "Buckets on!" Skarr jammed his helmet on, his eyes easily adjusting to the HUD. The timer began and the door leading to the training grounds. The squad ran out and immediately fell under fire. Skarr dived for cover, he checked his E-11 and found it ready.

Skarr rose from his position, looking over the top of the rocks that hid him from the blaster fire of the simulated enemies. He sighted one of the enemies with his E-11 and fired.

"Go, go," Skarr yelled to his team. His squad rose from their positions and ran towards the goal. Skarr fired on the enemies providing cover with arcs of energy. Their goal was simple, destroy the simulated New Republic garrison. Norith Skarr rose from his position as his team provided cover for him now.

His squad stopped firing as Skarr approached them. It was Skarr's turn now. He reloaded his E-11 and once again fired into the crowd of New Republic soldiers. The team of stormtroopers moved further down towards the garrison while Skarr stayed on the high ground. The New Republic troops' attention was divided between the team of stormtroopers and Skarr himself.

Skarr started as the leader of the squad's voice sounded over their comm channel, "Medic! Medic!" Skarr grimaced, while the rounds weren't real, points would be deducted from their score. And if this were a real situation...

Skarr shook the disturbing thought out of his mind. Firing more rounds into their enemies, he tried to ensure his team had enough time to get their bearings.

The leader's voice crackled over the comm, "Skarr we need you down here. Move it." Skarr forsook his position and ran down towards his team. The medic sat next to their demolitions expert who was the one wounded. The leader was pouring fire out towards the New Republic soldiers. Skarr skidded to a halt next to him and added his fire to the hail of bolts zinging around the training grounds.

"We have to get to the garrison, sir," Skarr yelled over his comm. The leader nodded almost imperceptibly. The leader looked behind him and gestured to the medic and demolitions expert. They all rose and fired into the waves of soldiers as they made their way to the garrison. Skarr pushed his team into the garrison and slid his body up against the doorway. He fired from behind his cover, as long as he stood no one would enter the garrison. Blaster bolts splashed up against the archway as Skarr waited for the rest of his squad to set the charges.

"They're set, Skarr, we're bugging out," the leader said. Skarr nodded and laid down covering fire as his squad emerged from the garrison. Skarr and his squad ran away fro the garrison, the charges' timers ticking away in their HUD's. The squad was far enough from the garrison as it exploded effectively ending the simulation.

Skarr stood up from the floor. Sergeant Moor stood in front of him looking down on their squad. Moor sighed and helped the medic off of his feet. Skarr dusted himself off and saluted.

"You pass," Moor said, the simple two words meant everything to Skarr. It meant a new beginning and even a new phase of training.

Indirect Fire Operations

Skarr stood before Sergeant Moor once again, only this time he stood alone. Moor looked down at Skarr, he was taller than Skarr.

"Today you're going to learn about artillery. Especially our favorite the E-Web," Moor announced. He began walking down the firing range toward the E-Web mounted at the end. Skarr kept pace with him and they stopped at the end.

"The E-Web is one of the most powerful repeating blasters we have. It has an optimum range of 200 meters and a maximum range of 500 meters," Moor explained. " The full name of this weapon is Emplacement Weapon, Heavy Blaster, but as always us jugheads shortened it. The E-Web can be broken down in parts and carried by different squad members, just to lighten the load. It has to be mounted to counteract the incredible firepower this baby kicks. Now the 4T3 power generator tends to overheat and can explode if it overheats too much. The E-Web takes two men to operate, one to fire, the other to monitor the power generator. Unfortunately the E-Web has a long set up time if the generator is 'cold'."

Skarr listened intently to the explanation Moor clearly loved giving.

"I'm going to show you how to fire with the E-Web and how to manage the generator," Moor said. He ushered Skarr up to the E-Web and knelt down next to the generator. "Now fire." Moor demanded. Skarr depressed the trigger and was nearly flung back as he felt the recoil. He got a hold of the levers and held on, firing down the range.

Moor's voice screamed in his ear, "Stop!" Skarr stopped and looked to Moor. Moor knelt down next to the generator again. Skarr knelt as well and examined the generator.

Moor pointed to the dials, "This bar here shows the temperature of the generator. You make sure it never reaches critical mass. If it gets close, turn that dial to power it down. When it starts to cool enough, raise the power. It's simple." Skarr nodded and stayed kneeling as Moor readied the E-Web.

The turret began firing and Moor's whoop could be heard even over the fire. Skarr watched as the temperature slowly rose and he adjusted the dials accordingly. Moor continued for ten minutes, literally tearing apart the holograms at the end of the range.

Sergeant Moor turned to Skarr, "Now you learn how to dismantle the weapon." Moor set to work explaining what pieces disconnected from what and where all the pieces were stored. After dismantling the E- Web, Moor showed Skarr how to set the turret up.

Skarr stood next to the turret, everything was perfect. Every piece was where it should be. Moor smiled, "Now dismantle it again!" Skarr sighed. He knelt down and began working on taking the E-Web apart. Then he rebuilt it again.

Moor examined the finished E-Web, nodding to himself. He turned to Skarr a look of satisfaction on his face. "You pass."

Okay for number one. I'm going to take into consideration WHEN you wrote that post and give you a break. Considering its your first spec and one of your first posts in general its very good. You have an excellent use of detail about your character and the character you're describing. Be careful in combat heavy posts that you slow down and orientate your reader though. At times I knew what you were doing but not where you were, and I never got a clear sense of the scene the story was taking place in. PASS

OOC:
Story Two: Much better writing, I can tell you had been practicing. You made it clearer where you were, but you still need to be more detailed about the setting.
ForExample: He began walking down the firing range toward the E-Web mounted at the end. **They walked along the long rows of weapons in booths. A target displayed the abuse it had been taking over the years hung tiredly fifty meters into the range. Recruits flinched as blasters and rifles were fired at the helpless unarmed dummy's. They reached the E-Web at the end of the long row. <--- see one sentence becomes so much more when you put the detail in, and now the ready can not only know where you are they can feel it.

This one needs to be longer, I'm still going to pass it cause you did get all the components in but for the next one I expect to see much more detail. Use the setting, the thing your learning and your characters development to move the story along. Also when you were "working on taking the E-Web apart", describe that in detail. Hell have something go wrong, maybe he has to be creative to fix it maybe he flat out gets in trouble. Try to establish a problem he needs to solve. PASS

Precision Range Shooting

Norith Skarr met Sergeant Moor at the shooting range. It was relatively empty, for there were many shooting ranges in the Tadath base. The firing range was a long slanted field that ended in field dummies. Near the top of the range was a long table.

Moor gestured to the table and they both began walking, "Today, you start your Precision Shooting. Now, from your report I see your not an excellent shot with a rifle. I hope to change that within a month, so I want you up here everyday you can practicing."

Skarr nodded. He knew Moor would have him do something. He had planned to work on his shooting before he had to come here, but there wasn't time between missions. They reached the table which was almost a several hundred meters away from the dummies.

The table was filled with all the variants of the E-11 Blaster Rifle. Skarr looked over them all and then down the range. It was a long way to the dummies. He sighed.

Moor pointed, "Now you're are going to fire all these beautiful weapons at the dummies as accurately as you can. In front of you is the calculation sheet for shots." Skarr looked at the sheet of paper on the table and the calculations scribbled there. Mathematical equations on velocity, drag, wind speeds; they were all there. He picked up the E-11, the regular version, and shouldered it.

Skarr let the calculations run through his head and adjusted the rifle slightly to the left. He fired and...it missed. Moor chuckled slightly as Skarr readjusted. This time his shot hit the dummy, but only in the torso.

"That one was better. Let's move on to the next." The next rifle was the E-11 Marksman variant. He shouldered it, once again calculating the distances. He pulled the trigger and began coughing as a puff of black powder left the cooling vents. He heard Moor laughing uncontrollably as Skarr rubbed at his eyes.

Skarr finished rubbing his eyes and coughing and saw Moor glaring at him, despite the man's chuckling. "You didn't check the weapons." Skarr groaned. Of all the things he had forgotten, it was something as simple as checking his weapons.

Moor made him check all the weapons this time and only one of the others had another powder charge in the vents. Now Moor had him shoot with all the others. Skarr missed the targets 63 out of 100 attempts. Moor had laughed at Skarr's mistakes many times and he walked up.

"Let me show you a trick of the trade," Moor said. He scooped up one of the E-11s and fired down the range striking the dummy in the head. Skarr's jaw dropped in astonishment.

"How?" he asked. Moor shrugged.

"I've worked with the calcualtions a lot longer. And...I like to imagine whatever superior officer is giving me grief is the dummy," Moor admitted. It was Skarr's turn to laugh, that was a ridiculous notion. He took the E-11 from Moor's hands and imagined Moor standing at the end of the range.

Skarr depressed the trigger and the dummy's head flew off. He turned back to Moor, disbelief on his face.

"Work on that aim, Private and then return when you're better," Moor demanded, "And remember superior officers."

Range Finding & Advanced Vector Calculation

Norith Skarr once again found himself in the shooting range. He had waited for well over a month to return here. He had been down here everyday he could, clocking in nearly two hours a day. His aim had gotten better and everyday he signed out of the range he wrote down his accuracy rating. It had improved considerably over time and Skarr was proud of his work.

Now as he entered, Skarr observed that the room was full now. It was an off day for a lot of troopers and all the younger ones were here, working on their aim. Skarr knew where most of the older troopers were. A night on the town did them great.

Skarr walked down the range toward his assigned booth. Full length windows ran down his left, offering him a view of the range itself as holographic dummies were shot to static, then rebuilt. Fellow troopers passed by him as he walked, nodding their heads in polite greeting.

Sergeant Moor stood by the booth when Skarr finally made it. He looked proud and grumpy as he always did. Moor was looking down at a sheet of paper. He looked up and smiled, if a little grudgingly.

"You finally made it to Lance Corporal," Moor said. Skarr only nodded.

"I was looking over your accuracy scores and how long you've been here. Pretty impressive, but today I'm going to teach you how to shoot even better," Moor explained. He gestured to the table and on it was an E-11 blaster of the sniper rifle variant. What puzzled Skarr was that it had no scope.

Moor could clearly see Skarr's confusion. "I'll explain. Today's lesson is a lecture. You're going to learn how to calculate range without a range finder or scope and how to calculate vectors." Skarr looked at Moor, his jaw he knew had dropped.

The young Lance Corporal looked down the range and at the E-11. Calculating ranges without a scope. Skarr didn't think he could do it. And vector calculations, Skarr already had the formulas and had been working with them for the past month.

The sergeant seemed to read Skarr's mind. "You've already been working with the vector calculations so we'll concentrate less on that." Skarr walked forward and took the E-11. Moor set the piece of paper down on the table.

Skarr peered at the sheet and noted the new calculations on it. He looked down the range and seen the dummy, yet he couldn't tell how far away it was.

"Now there's a whole lot of ways to find range," Moor began, "Luckily for you, a spotter usually does the job. But every so often you lose your spottter." Skarr nodded, he could've seen that coming.

Moor clicked a few switches on the side of the booth and the range in front of Skarr changed to a forest scene. Skarr looked at the switches and back at the range. He hadn't known it could do that.

"Trees, buildings, almost anything can work to help you find range. Hope for buildings though. City ordinances are prettty tight on how far buildings have to be apart." Skarr looked at Moor and sighed. This was going to be bad.

"Another helpful way is these," Moor said holding a pair of macrobinoculars. "You're going to be using the stadia method. It's basically the art of findiing range with a telescopic instrument, such as these" He waved the macrobinocs.

He gave them to Skarr. "Now this method is based upon the principle that in similar triangles homologous sides are proportional." Skarr could've sworn he heard a few of his brain cells pop.

Moor seen the look on Skarr's face and shook himself, "Sorry, now I'm sounding like my teacher. You've taken some geometry, right?" Skarr just nodded, he didn't think he could talk without screaming at Moor to make sense.

"What that means is that a right triangle with a given angle, the ratio of the adjacent side length to the oppostie side length is constant. This helps with using a reticle of known angular spacing," Moor explained further. Now Skarr understood a little more.

"Using this principle you can find the distance of an object of known size or the size of an object at a known distance. We'll work on this a little more, but believe me you will understand it." Moor looked at his chronometer. "It's about time to go. I have a mission I have to go on soon, so I'll see you for your next lesson."

Skarr looked back at Moor as he walked away, But it's an off day.

Story One: Small Arms Repair

Skarr's boots clacked on the hallway floors, echoing. It had felt like a long time since he had set foot into the classroom portion of the Tadath base. He wondered exactly why the next lesson would take place in a classroom. If he even knew what his next lesson would be, he might have an idea.

He stepped through the door to find Moor standing at the front of the room, checking his chrono. The room was full of worktables and students. The students were other soldiers, some trainees, some active soldiers. On the worktables sat the E-11 blaster, something he was sick of seeing. Next to them was a set of tools.

Moor looked up at Skarr and grinned, "You finally made it. You've been keeping these students for a minute now, get to your workstation." Skarr checked his own chrono, he was sure he was on time. He was.

Skarr walked over to one of the empty worktables, nodding and greeting the other soldiers. The set of tools, as far as he could tell, was complete. He looked up at Moor who was still waiting at the front of the class.

Without warning, Moor began, "Welcome class, today's lesson is practical and hands on. Before you is an E-11 blaster and there is something wrong with each one. It is up to you to repair it. The manuals are beside you if you are not yet familiar with the E-11.

Skarr chuckled, this should actually be easy. The reason it would be so easy is the reason Skarr was so sick of the E-11. His mentor, Jared Nolac, had relentlessy drilled the manual into Skarr's mind. He had said that Skarr needed to know the E-11 inside and out. He looked around to see everybody already at work.

Time to get to work as well, Skarr thought. He picked up the E-11 and the diagnostics reader out of the tool kit. Skarr ran the reader over the E-11 and waited for the display to show what was wrong with the blaster.

The reader's display blinked. The battery's casing was cracked and the tibanna gas cylinder was empty. Skarr picked up one of the tools, a simple screwdriver, and began unscrewing the grip. The battery's casing was cracked and it took a simple lever to pop the battery out. He reached into a drawer in the worktable and drew out two items, a new battery and a tibanna gas cylinder.

Skarr placed the new battery into the grip and screwed the plating back into place. Next he unscrewed the casing around the body of the weapon, right after the barrel. The cylinder sat inside and Skarr easily lifted it out of it's niche in the weapon. He very carefully placed the potentially explosive full cylinder wher it belonged.

A few more minutes and the weapon was back together. He ran the diagnostics scanner back over the weapon and realized he had made a mistake. He had forgotten to wire the battery to the weapon. Skarr sighed and opened the grip casing again. He untangled the small clump of wires and began hooking them back up to the battery. He consulted the manual only once to check the position of the wiring.

He was done soon after and took the E-11 up to Moor. Moor examined the weapon and used his own diagnostic reader to scan the weapon. The older Sergeant smiled and handed the E-11 back to Skarr.

"You did good Skarr, now I have a question for you," Moor said. Skarr nodded and followed Moor to the door of the classroom.

"Now Norith, you cannot say anything of this to anyone," Moor cautioned. Skarr nodded, it had to be serious then.

"I need you to keep an eye out on that recruit," Moor said, pointing to one of the younger looking recruits. He was working meticulously on the E-11. He looked like he had taken it completely apart and was rebuilding it. Skarr looked back at Moor.

"Why?" Skarr asked.

Moor grunted, "No recruit should be able to do that. Not one as young as him. And not with his record."

"Record?" Skarr asked, still confused.

"He has no military record at all and no training. He shouldn't be able to do that," Moor explained. Skarr nodded, no he shouldn't.

"You think he's a spy?" Skarr asked. Moor nodded and shushed Skarr. Moor motioned for him to leave.

Skarr once again stood alone in the hall. He didn't know if he passed the spec, but he had a mission now. Skarr had to uncover a spy. But whether he was a spy or not was the question. He may just have an affinity for weapons. Then again all was not always as it seemed.

He made his way back to his room. Then realized that Moor had not given Skarr the recruit's name. Well there's more than one way to find that out, Skarr thought. Skarr picked up some of his gear, looking for an excuse to go back to the classroom.

When he got back to the classroom, the students were leaving. He spotted the possible spy heading his way. Skarr trotted up to the recruit.

"Hey you," Skarr called. The recruit stopped and looked over Skarr.

"Yeah?" he asked.

"I've seen you around the barracks every once in awhile," which was a lie, "What's your name?"

The recruit pondered that for a moment. "My name is Keth." Skarr filed the name away. He had the recruit's name now.

"I'm Skarr. Wanna go for a drink?"

OOC:
Oh wow, a spy, very nice twist. Seriously the way you are getting these stories to flow together is brilliant. Technically very nice, saw no spelling errors at all. Good detail on the E-11 and loved the character development about Skarr. Keep it up. PASS
