2200 hours, 4 ABY – One Day following Naval Academy Graduation, Three Days before deployment
Corulag, Corulus system – Imperial Naval Academy, Flight Quarters

Second Lieutenant Saul Aqulia sat on his bed and looked around the Flight Quarters. It was more like an apartment than anything; four pilots staying in one apartment, each with separate rooms and then shared common areas. The flight had been staying in this apartment for two years now; it was a great improvement over the barracks that the first two years of cadets stay in. He sat there, thinking about the future, his future. He fiddled with his jeweled Imperial signet ring, a symbol of Academy gradation. He was nervous, scared even. He knew that his flight was going to be deployed sometime in the near future, as the Empire was on high alert since communication was lost with the Emperor.

There was a knock at his door, it was his college; the now Ensign Amanda Clark.
“Hey, are you okay? You’re not still out celebrating with everyone.” She asked him, knowing something was wrong.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just don’t feel like celebrating. Never been much for it.” He replied, trying to hide his feelings.

“Liar. I was there on the Vacation last year. You celebrated more than anyone, the local law-enforcement records show it.” She said with a smile.

“Honestly, I still don’t remember lighting that land speeder on fire. I think it was a load of bullshit.”

“Right.” She laughed.

He looked out the window towards the sky and just gazed into nothing.

“Seriously, what’s wrong?” Amanda asked still concerned.

“Nothing is wrong, it’s just like I said; I don’t feel like celebrating.” He said, with a bit of annoyance in his voice.

“You will feel better if you talk about it.”

“No.” Saul said firmly.

“Fine. Be that way, you want to sulk about nothing, go ahead.” She said, now pissed off.  The Ensign began to walk towards the door and out of the room. “You know why things did not work out between us last year? It was because anytime you get upset or sad, you bottle it up and try to hide it. You need to just let it out before you explode.”

“Piss off.”  He said with anger.

The look on the Ensigns face was one of extreme anger; she stormed out the door and smashed her hand on the panel on the outside to close it. Saul, realizing that he made the stupid mistake of letting his emotions get the better of him stood up.

“I’m sorry.” He said quietly.

He walked over to his footlocker, after opening it he removed all of his imperial issued items; his leisure uniform, his imperial officer identification cards. He set them all in the foot locker. He removed all of his personal gear, and got ready for whatever it was that he was thinking to do. He holstered his two DT-57s and slid his Sonic Screwdriver into his inner jacket pocket. He grabbed all of his miscellaneous items he had, and began to close the locker. He noticed something, he left something in there. He opened the locker again, and pulled out a small case. Inside was a data chip that had family photos and videos, along with a smaller metal case; enclosed in that case was his deceased father’s combat citation. He slid them into his jacket pocket and then looked at his signet ring. He took it off of his finger and set it on the foot locker. Saul sat back down on the bed, and pulled out a spare data chip. He typed a message, and when he was finished he set it down on the bed and walked over to the window.

He climbed out the window, five levels above the ground, and scaled the side of the building down as far as he could get. Saul made it as far as the second level, when his grip slipped. He quickly regained his grip and continued. Three meters from the ground, he lost his footing and fell to the ground. He bit his tongue not to yell out in pain as he landed on his shoulder, he did not want to alert anyone that he left the building. He did not intend to return.

Changing his walk to a casual stroll, he walked past the Academy gate guards claiming to be going for a walk to the commerce district. Once he was out of their sight, he darted down an alley and headed for the Spaceport. He was getting out of the system as soon as possible. He did not want to be around when he was discovered to be on a UA. He would be demoted and sent to the brig if he was caught.

It was too late at night for the spaceport; security was heightened at night due to recent threats against the local government’s support of the empire. Saul needed to law low, somewhere secure. He slid into a dumpy housing complex for the night, using his sonic screwdriver to open the door to a vacant apartment. It appeared that no one had been there for months, so it would be a perfect place to hide for the night. The following day, he decided, he would attempt to leave the system. He would spend the majority of the night wondering why he had done what he did, and questioning whether or not he should go back to his bed at the academy. He could not figure out why he had done this, but eventually decided it was too late to go back. The damage was already done, the best thing he could do was get out of the system before anyone found out he was gone.

Corulag, Corulus system –Abandoned Apartment in Curamelle

Saul jumps to a loud banging noise on the door, it startles him.

“I know there’s someone in there! Open the damn door or ill break it down!” A voice was yelling from outside the apartment.

Saul cursed, and grabbed his small amount of gear. He needed to get out of here, and quick. He had no idea who was at the door, but getting caught was not an option. He looked around the room for an escape, but saw no was outside. He saw air vent, just big enough for him to fit in. He used his Sonic Screwdriver and opened the vent, after getting inside he closed it. The Vent ran all the way back into the hallway where the man was yelling. If he could just lure the man inside, he could get out and escape. He got an idea, he would open the door. He pulled out his sonic screwdriver and then thinks to himself.

If I open the door, the man will know I was here.

Saul decided that the best action would be to let the man enter on his own, and then escape.

Eventually the man did just that, he kicked in the door. This was Saul’s chance, and he took it. Crawling through the vent, he got to the hallway, got out of the vent, and took off for the door. He made it, he was outside and one step closer to getting out the system, all that was left was to get to the star port and find a way out of the system.

Walking down the streets of Curamelle was not something Saul wanted to do while attempted in flee. He was nervous that someone would spot him, he figured that his flight knew about his escape and alerted the academy. Unknown to him, he flight members were still asleep, hangover after a night of celebrating. They knew nothing of where he was, or what he was doing. He was about two klicks of the starport, a good distance to go.

At least the weather is nice. He thought to himself, trying to keep himself in a good mood.

He spotted an imperial patrol in a speeder, as they approached he turned his head away. They looked at him , but continued past him.

Smooth, real smooth genius.

0730 hours, 4 ABY – Two Days until scheduled deployment
Corulag, Corulus system – Curamelle Intergalactic Star port

Approaching the star port, Saul was cautious. The heightened security levels recently meant that the place would be swarming with Imperial security and officers. He needed to sneak past them all. Slipping into a crowd of people, he knew he was missing one thing; identification. The crowd was slowly moving towards an upcoming Imperial checkpoint, he had to act fast. Saul began to look around the crowd at the people. He needed a person that was the same basic size and look as him.

He spotted a man sitting on a bench. “Got it.” He said to himself.

The man had a briefcase, and was busy reading the holo-net; the perfect target. Saul had to execute this well, or he was screwed. Walking casually towards the man, he rigged his wrist communicator to get a call in thirty seconds. This would be his cover, the average person in the star port talking on his comm. He carefully approached the man, and made sure not to attract attention. He would stop walking, look around, appear a bit lost and confused, and then continue as if he knew where he was going.

The wrist communicator began to buzz; Saul let it go for three rings, and then answered it. Silence, just as planned. He then pulled out a data pad, and began to act like he was reading it and going along with the call. He approached the man, and tripped over the man’s briefcase, which successfully broke it open. Saul dumped his own items onto the ground as he fell.

He casually cursed, the man jumped up startled and confused. “What the Frak!” The man yelled.

“Oh, I am so sorry! It was a complete accident.” Saul said as he began to slowly pickup his own stuff, and the man’s ID card.

The man picked up his own stuff, oblivious to what had happened. “You need to start paying attention!”

“I know, I’m sorry!” Saul said, hiding a laugh. The man gave Saul a nasty look, and a sat back down, going back to exactly what he was doing without any thought to the matter; Success.

Saul walked away, and towards the checkpoint. The only thing that would stop him now, was one of the troopers recognizing him; that would frak his whole plan up. He stood in line, and waited his turn.

“Identification.” The trooper demanded. Saul handed the stolen card to the trooper. After looking at this, the trooper put his contraband scanner away. “Sir, you did not have to wait in this line. You have express access, please go ahead inside.”

“Oh, silly me. I always forget about that.” Saul laughed, another success. He was in, Saul was inside the star port. Now all that was left was getting the hell off this rock, and out of the system before anyone knew he was gone. He had less than an hour, by then someone will have known he was gone.

0800 hours, 4 ABY – Two Days until scheduled deployment
Corulag, Corulus system – Curamelle Intergalactic Star port

Saul needed to escape, he needed to get out. He wandered into the cantina in the star port, expecting that this is where he could find a pilot to take him out of here. Then it hit him, he had no credits on him, he had no way to pay. He noticed that a recent customer of the cantina left credits on a table, and while walking past swiped them.  He looked at it, and was displeased.

About enough to buy some drinks, but that’s about it. He thought to himself.

He needed a common ship, but one with speed and defense. He did not want to have to shoot his way out though, so it would be best to leave no trace of this exodus. After browsing through the database of current passenger vessel up for a contract, he came across a YT-2000. It was perfect for what he needed, a small ship but a fast one. He sent a drink to the pilot of the ship over, which got his attention. The pilot walked over to the table.

“Greetings.” He began.

“What can I do for you?” the captian asked.

“I need transport out of this system.”

“Okay, Destination.”

“Hutt Space, Nar Shaddaa.”

“Alright…” the pilot began, “I can start the paperwork, but this trip is going to cost you.”

“I can pay you when we get there, I have nowhere near enough credits with me now to pay you.”

“Ha! Right. Not a chance.” The pilot laughed, “I’m leaving. Thanks for the drink.” The pilot grabbed his cup, and got ready to get up and leave.

Saul thought fast, “I wouldn’t stand up if was you.” He said.

“And why is that.” The pilot asked, laughing as he did.

“The explosive you are sitting on might just go off if you do.”

“What the hell are you taking about?” The Pilot question angrily.

“Do you think I carry these detonators just for fun?” Saul opened his jacket enough for the pilot to see the belt of thermal detonators he was wearing. “I will not take no for an answer.

“You’re crazy, and I am not taking you anywhere.” The pilot replied.

Saul was getting irritated. “Fine! Then you will give me the access codes for your ship and your account number. I will take your ship, and render payment upon my arrival.”

“I’d rather sit here till I get old and die.”

Saul pulls his sonic screwdriver out of his pocket. “You can sit and die, yes; but getting old… I seriously doubt that. Do you know what this is?”

“Some sort of probe?” the pilot guessed.

“A remote detonator for the device you are sitting on.” Saul said in a bluff.

“You’re a bastard. Here.” The pilot pulled out a data chip and set it down on the table. “I will get you for this.”

Saul picked up the chip and got up, “Yes, that is likely; but not today.”

Saul walked out of the cantina, and headed for the bay where the YT-2000 lay waiting. It was a short trip, and easy to find. He walked up to the ship, and up the ramp. At the door, he inserted the chip, and the main door opened promptly. He walked through the ship to the cockpit, and attempted to put power to the ship; He noticed something awkward, a biometric scanner. He needed the hand print of the pilot to start up the ship.

“Damnit!” He yelled, and punched the biometric reader.

He ripped off the biometric reader, and wired in his data pad. He modified the entry to allow access to the ship and jumped into the piloting seat.

“Tower, this is …” he stumbled on the name and flicked the comn. on and off to simulate a failure, “requesting permission to embark. ”’Breaking Point’, Tower; you are clear to embark.” He power up the repulsorlift engines and raised the vessel above the star port. He then punched the engines and took off.  The question that remained was, where to go, he had no idea where he could take refuge. He told the pilot Nar Shaddaa, which sounded like a good place to start. At the very least he could take this ship, and sell it on the market to get a nice little chunk of credits.

Corulag, Corulus system – Imperial Academy, Headmaster’s Office

There was a knock at the academy headmaster’s office door.

“Enter” The headmaster said.

The man was Roger Panel, an Ensign in the recent graduate flight that Saul Aquila was a member of prior to leaving.

“Sir!” Roger saluted.

“At ease, Ensign; what do you need.”

“Sir, Lieutenant Aquila failed to report for ops today. When he entered his quarters, this data pad was discovered. Roger said, as he handed the data pad to the headmaster.

He looked at the data pad, and read its message;

>: BEGIN ENTRY …
> To: EMPTY
> From: Aquila, Saul
> I cannot deploy as scheduled, for reasons that are my own. I am sorry for my failures as a flight commanded, as a friend, and as an officer; in addition to making this difficult situation for you.
> END ENTRY …

After reading the data pad, he whipped it against a wall; shattering it. He reached onto his desk and hit the comm. link.

“Security, lockdown the Academy; we have a possible defection attempt. Contact the local star ports and put them on full alert. Profile on the way.” He said, and then closed the channel.

A deep klaxon was heard across the academy. They knew what was going on, and thought that they still
had time to prevent it.

Corulag, Corulus system – YT-2000 Freighter “Breaking Point”, In orbit of Corulag

“Damn fool actually thought I’d rig his seat with explosive… what an idiot.” Saul said to himself.

He maneuvered the ship, and was approaching the minimum distance from the planet to make a hyperspace jump; he was under a minute away from being out.

[[Transport ‘Breaking Point’; you are ordered to return to star port. Failure to comply will be viewed as a hostile act.]] He heard over comm.

“Shit.” He said to himself, and opened the comm. “I am sorry, you last transmission was garbled. What about a failure to turn to port?”

[[I repeat; Transport ‘Breaking Point’; you are ordered to return to star port. Failure to comply will be viewed as a hostile act.]]

“I beg your pardon” Saul continued to waste time, he was seconds away from escape.

[[Cut the crap, Aquila. Return to star port.]] The person on the comm. said.

“Oh, getting a little bit of attitude now, are we?” he said, mocking them.

[[DeltaThree-One and Three Two, this is Conestoga Station; intercept the transport. Last chance Aquila, or we’ll shoot you down.]]

“Then I guess I’ll see you in hell.” He said, and punched the engines.

He placed the ship on auto pilot, everything was in place.

Two TIE Interceptors speed towards the Transport, and seeing as they were ahead of it to begin with the pilots managed to overtake it. Saul ran to the Quad-Laser turret, and strapped himself in.

[[Delta Three-One Delta Three-Two, This is Conestoga, Weapons free. I repeat weapons free. Shoot him down!]]

“Good luck you frakers!” Saul said as he opened fire on the turret. Just as he opened fire, the Breaking Point made the jump to light speed. He was free, he made it.

“Yes!” he yelled, as he jumped down from the turret and headed back towards the cockpit.

He looked at his navigation computer, and began to rethink going to into Hutt Space. The imperials would certainly place a bounty on his head. There was only one real group that would accept him, a wanted imperial military criminal, the Rebel Alliance.

“No. Never.” He said to himself, “Not after what they’ve done.”

He altered the course for the Telos system, a good place for a person to hide as it was almost outside of the Imperial reach.

Corulag, Corulus system – Imperial Academy, Headmaster’s Office

“Sir.” A lieutenant said to the Headmaster.

“What is it Lieutenant?”

“He escaped the system. We did not catch him in time.”

The headmaster gazed out of the window, “That is unfortunate; this is not good for you at all.”

“Sir? I do not understand.”

“Do you see that shuttle down there?” the headmaster pointed out side.

The Lieutenant walked over to the window, “Yes sir.”

“Good, I want you to try to fly to it.” He said with a laugh.

“What do you mean fly to…” the lieutenant tried to say.

Just as he uttered those words, a blaster shot was heard. The headmaster had shot the lieutenant, who then fell backwards and through the window falling to the ground below. Where he landed, he missed the shuttle by over a kilometer.

“A pity, I guess you couldn’t fly after all.” He said and walked over to his desk and activated the communicator. “Ensign Roberts.” He said over the comm.

[[Yes, Sir.]]

“Get me Ensign Clark, and have her report to my office. Also get maintenance in there, my window has mysteriously broken.

[[Aye, Sir.]]

The headmaster sat in his desk chair, and put the pistol in a drawer.

Corulag, Corulus system – Imperial Academy, Mess Hall

Ensign Amanda Clark was sitting in the mess hall with her friends, eating their lunch. A male officer approached their table, as well as two other men behind him… armed with sidearms.

“Ensign Clark?” The man in charge of the group asked.

“Yes?” She said.

“You need to come with us, the Headmaster needs to see you.”

“I do not need an armed escort; I can make my own way there.”

“Then please do, now.”

She was already angry after the earlier incident with Saul, and didn’t feel like arguing with these men. “Fine.”

The Ensign stood up, and walked off towards the lift. She got in the lift, and sealed its door before the two armed men got in. The lift began to ascend towards the command deck. As it did she questioned the man.

“What does the headmaster want with me?”

“I do not know, I am just following orders.”

“You’re full of it. You know more than you say.” She said, irritated by the deception.

“Maybe so, but I am also under orders not to say any more than I have.”

“The headmaster does realize that I am no longer under his command…”

“I believe that he does know this, though he has requested you’re presence.” The man said as the lift chimed.

The door to the lift slid open, and three armed men stood outside.

“It appears that they did not like that stunt down there.” She said as she exited the lift.

Deep Space - YT-2000 Freighter “Breaking Point”

A loud explosion shook the freighter, followed by three minor blasts. Saul, who was asleep, jumped out of the seat and ran towards the radar. There were no ships nearby, nothing fired upon him. There was another blast, which happened almost instantaneously with the freighter coming out of hyperspace. Status indicators began to change from green or yellow to red. The freighter shook, as its engines shut down. Klaxons began to go off, as the ship slowly spun as it drifted; all navigation had shut off.

“Ah, Frak!” Saul yelled as the ship’s systems all began to fail.

Out the main view port in the cockpit, Saul could see a planet ahead. It was pale, almost white; he did not know where he was or what planet was in front of him. The breaking point was close enough to the planet that its gravity began to pull the freighter in. This was slow, and would likely take a day for the ship to hit the planet’s atmosphere. This would give Saul time to get systems back online.

Saul ran through the ships corridors, and headed for the engine room. The closer he got, the more the area was filled with smoke. This led him to believe that the engine room held the problem.

Corulag, Corulus system – Imperial Academy, Administration Deck

Ensign Clark stood outside of the Headmaster’s office. The armed men stood nearby, one at the office door, two guarding the hallway leading to the lift. It was obvious that they did not want her to leave. The man from the lift exited the office, and turned to the Ensign.

“The Headmaster is ready for you, enter.”

She walked into the room, and the door closed behind her.

The Headmaster sat looking out the window, still broken.

“Ensign, I believe that you are aware of the situation that has occurred in your flight.” He started.

“Yes, Sir; I am.” She replied.

“As such, there is now no Lieutenant in your flight, which is needed for proper deployment. You have been selected to be promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant, and take on the duty of flight leader.”

“Thank you, Sir.” She said, confused.

“Which is a joke with the message I received an hour ago. You are being reassigned.”

“To where, Sir?”

“Imperial Naval Intelligence has requested you presence in an operation they are beginning. I do not know any more.” The headmaster said as he handed her the data pad that has her promotion details and transfer orders.

“Thank you, Sir.”

“Yeah… Dismissed, Lieutenant.”

Unknown Time, 4 ABY – One Days until scheduled deployment
Deep Space - YT-2000 Freighter “Breaking Point”

Saul sat down on a bunk in the Breaking Point’s quarters. He was out of ideas, he could not figure out how to get the engines to come back online. There was little time, under two hours until the freighter would impact the planet. The alarms had quit about three hours prior, and time was running out. Saul began to hear a noise coming from the cockpit. He got off the bunk, and got ready to walk over to the cockpit to find out what the sound was. Just as he did, and explosion rocked the ship, throwing him to the ground.

“Great! The fraking ship is falling apart!” he yelled in anger, just after he did a second explosion shook the ship again.

“What the hell, that wasn’t an internal explosion.” He said as he got up and ran for the cockpit. The closer he got the more of the noise he heard. He began to make out voices.

[[… last chance to identify yourself or you will be boarded.]] A voice said.

Saul slammed his hand on the communication button, opening the channel. “This is the freighter ‘Breaking Point’; we are having communication and engine difficulties and could not respond any earlier. Who am I speaking to?”

[[This is the Galactic Empire Imperial Naval VSD ‘Night fire‘, you are in a restricted system.]]

“Not by choice! I was in hyperspace and we had an explosion, we were pulled out of hyperspace. What system am I in?”

[[The Yetton System, A restricted system. If you have no ability to leave the system, prepare for a boarding party.]]

“I would not recommend that.” Saul said boldly.

[[Oh really? Why not?”]] The man over the comm. said, as Saul heard him talking to his supervisor.

“This frigate is dangerously close to impacting the planet, with limited power there is no way to pull it from crashing.”

[[You will be arrested and removed from the freighter prior to its impact.]]

Saul looked at the button for communication, placed his hand over it. “Good luck with that.” He said, and then slammed his hand on the button, closing the channel.

He looked over into the ship, looking for a way out. The ship was equipped with two escape pods. He sat down at the computer console, and began an ejection sequence. There was not a lot of time before a shuttle arrived with Imperial Stormtroopers onboard. There was five minutes on the escape pod’s countdown. Plenty of time to prepare. He walked over to the second escape pod, and began to load supplies and survival gear into in the pod. As he did, he could hear the first pod jettison and shoot away from the freighter. About twenty seconds later, he heard a turbolaser shot, and explosion. It was time to go; the shuttle would be on its way to confirm that Saul was dead. He grabbed a breath mask, and a detonation charge. He walked to the cockpit and killed power to the shield generator. After placing the charge on the cockpit view screen, and ran back to the second escape pod, his way out. After sealing the door to the escape pod, he detonated the charge. The internal atmosphere began to vent into space, and some of the ships systems were badly damaged in the explosion. Saul threw the breath mask to the floor and pulled out his Sonic Screwdriver. Using it, he disabled the jettison charges that would make the pod blast away. He would next wait, wait until the Stormtroopers gave up on his shuttle and either shot it down or left it to fall in the ground. While he waited though, he access the ship’s computer and disabled the logging of his current escape pod’s activation which he followed by deleting the log of that action. As long as no one thought to check the disabled and sealed escape pod, he would be able to make a clean getaway.

Within a few minutes, he could hear the sound of a shuttle latching onto the docking hatch from the first escape pod. There was the sound of plasma torches cutting through the door, cutting in and making an entry point. There were no voices to hear though; it appeared that all of the troopers were using an internal communication system. By now the atmosphere had vented into space, and it was likely that the soldiers would not spend too much time searching for a body. They would get lazy and just blow the freighter up, or at least that is what Saul thought they would do. He had to hope that he was right about this, other wise it would definitely lead to him getting caught.

Klaxons began to sound, the freighter was dangerously close to impact; it was time for the Imperial troopers to leave. It was what he expected, and it was what happened. The troopers did not even bother to seal the hatch behind them; they took off running. Once the shuttle was clear of the freighter, the Night fire fired a single turbolaser volley onto the Breaking Point. It tore the port side apart, and sent debris throughout the sky. Saul saw this as his chance; he disabled the clams holding the pod on and began to fall with the debris.  The shuttle fell quickly, reaching terminal velocity in a matter of seconds. There would not be a lot of time to engage the thrusters and navigate the pod. Luckily he only needed to get the pod away from the freighter’s crash site.

Saul activated the navigational computer inside the pod, it was an almost worthless thing; only good for tracking and coordinates. It allowed him to see where he was, now a single klick away from the estimated crash site, which would be far enough for a freefall, now it was time to engage the jets and get even farther. Saul reached over to the level that was hidden inside a compartment, turning it he attempted to engage the engines. Nothing happened.
“Oh Frak me.” Saul said, as he had a face palm moment.
The escape pod soared into the surface of the planet and made a hard crash into the snow.

Unknown Time, 4 ABY – Unknown Date
Surface of Yetton V, Yetton System

He was not sure how long he was unconscious, but eventually he did wake up.  The pod was torn to hell, with only the frame of it remaining. It punched down deep enough into the snow that it made its own small cavern, so it was well hidden.  Though, at the time that was not Saul’s main concern. He felt like his ribs were shattered, though the true injury was beyond his ability to diagnose. Pulling himself up to one of the seats in the pod, he looked around to see if any of the gear made it. It was about a half loss; medical supplies and food were still there, while weapons and shelter supplies were a complete loss. The long range communication device Saul threw in the pod was damaged, but he still had his short range communicator.

Time was beyond running out, the Imperial had to have discovered the freighter by now. With no idea of how close they were, he had to get away from the site. Time was not on his side; all the elements were against him. If ever there was a time to run like hell, it was now. He gathered up the gear that was still any good, and dug out a pair of electro binoculars. After crawling to the top of the cavern of the pod, he looked around and saw white. The snow was blinding, and it just reflected the light. He switched the setting to thermal, and was shocked at what he saw. There was a faint image appearing, it was at a distance of at least 3 kilks. It was a long hike, but it was doable. As he crawled out, he heard loud noises.

“Frak… Sonic booms… something’s hitting the atmosphere…” He said to himself.

The thermal sighting would have to wait; he needed a place to hide. Somewhere close enough to get to, but far enough away that no one would think to look there. After taking a second to search, he decided to build a small snow shelter along the hillside. No ship could land there due to the terrain, and it would give him somewhat high ground to observe what is out there. In addition, the snow would make a good insulator, and would keep the heat inside the shelter from escaping. One problem though, he did not have a shovel.  He improvised though, and began to dig with the metallic case of a medial kit. There was no shortage of snow. Underneath him there was more snow than he was tall, and it kept falling. The ever falling snow made camouflaging the shelter extremely easy, as new snow would nicely sit on top of it instead of dug up lumps. This would be a few hours of work, but it was well worth it. He needed to get it done and get hidden inside, who knew where the vessels that make the sonic blasts were headed.

Approximately 1400 Hours, 4 ABY – Scheduled Deployment Day
Surface of Yetton V, Yetton System

With the structure complete, he looked at what was to come. The sonic blasts had ceased, they were close... whoever they were. It was odd, there were no fighters scouting the area, it was as if they did not, or could not. The area got quiet as the ship slid over his head, Saul was nervous, and forgot to look behind him.

“Don't move!” A man behind Saul said.

Saul did in fact move, and turned around. There were four humanoid lifeforms standing there, three had weapons drawn. They began to back him into his shelter. As they did, three of them stood around Saul, and one stood guard at the entrance to the shelter. In the distance, the sound of a craft began to get louder.

“You have one chance, any bullshit and you die. Understand?” One of the men, a full cyborg, said.

“Understood.” Saul replied, wishing he had a side arm.

“Who are you and what are you doing here.” Another man, a human male in a Imperial-type field uniform said.

“My name is Saul Aquila. I crash landed on this planet.”

“Oh really?” The cyborg said, “Search him, Kyle.”

A man, apparently named “Kyle” was very hesitant and had a strange look, but then began to search Saul for weapons or identification. While he was doing so, one of the men who wore a full suit of combat armor jumped away from the entrance to the snow fort.

“We've got Imperials! Get into cover!” The armored man yelled.

“Frak. Okay … Saul... ” The Cyborg said as he handed Saul a blaster rifle. “Ill take it seeing as these Imperials got here at the same time you did, they're looking for you.”

“Well...” Saul said with a laugh, “Yes, they are.”

“Good, The enemy of my Enemy is my friend. The name's Telok, Telok Redstorm. The brute in the armor is Ratchet, the silent guy is Grif, and you've met Kyle.” Telok said as he got into cover.

“What are you doing here?” Saul said as he got into cover as well.

“Depends on who you ask. Grif and I are here to complete a mission that our commanding officer gave us. Ratchet is on a bounty hunt. Kyle over there is just the group whiner.”

“Up yours” Kyle said giving a hand gesture.

“His wife went mission, and he got information that said she was here in the Yetton system.”

Saul though to himself, and wanted to ask about it, but knew this was not the time.

“We have a base two kliks southwest of here. We'll be safer there, we should get moving. Are we clear Ratchet?” Telok asked.

“Negative! We have a single Sentinel incoming.” The group began to look with electro binoculars, they saw the landing craft sweep over a tunnel in the snow.

The thrust from the craft caused large amounts of snow to fall and bury the tunnel.

“Oh well now we're screwed.” Grif said.

“Why?” Saul asked.

“That was the tunnel to our base.” Telok replied. “We dont have the supplies to fight off imperials here.”

“How many are in there?” Kyle asked.

“Fifty Four.” Ratchet said.

The sentinel craft landed near the escape pod. The ramp dropped and Imperial Stormtroopers began to pour out. It seemed endless, they just kept filing out and taking a formation. This was a well trained Imperial Assault squad. Once they all exited the craft, some began to approach the escape pod. It was obvious that they were investigating it, and had noticed that no one was inside of it.

“Okay, ideas.” The Cyborg said.

“Obviously we could try to hold this position.” Grif tossed his idea.

“We'd be killed!” Kyle replied, shooting the idea down.

“Indeed. We could attempt to attack them and commender their craft.” Telok said.

“As before, we would be killed” Ratchet boldly stated.

“I have a ship.” Saul said.

The four men looked at Saul in shock. “And you were going to tell us this … when?”

“It is badly damaged, an orbiting star destroyer ripped it to hell.”

“What complement of supplies does it have?” Telok asked.

“No idea really, the ship isnt mine. Though it was able to blast its way out of Corulag.”

“Okay. How far is it?”

“Four clicks to...” Saul said as he took a look around outside.

As he did a Blaster shot was fired from below, and just missed his head.

“Shit! Four clicks to the Northeast!” he said as he fell to the ground.

“Damn, they're on to us. We need to go, now!” Ratchet yelled as he jumped out of the shelter firing at the imperials.

The entire assault group of fifty four began to open up on the area. The shuttle raised its boarding ramp and began to power back up for a lift off.

“Is he insane!” Grif said as he ran out to Ratchet. As he did, a Imperial Sniper was getting a fix on him. It took two shots,  but the sniper hit his target in the head. Grif not only fell to the ground, but rolled down to the snow covered tundra below.

Telok grabbed his communicator and opened the channel. “Ratchet! Where the hell are you!”

Over the channel Telok could hear rapid blaster fire as the Imperials got closer to Ratchet's position. [[Attempting to get to the land speeder. I do not know if I can get back to you. Give me five, and then go without me!]] Ratchet replied.

“Hell no! We already lost too many!” Telok said as Kyle began to lay down cover fire with a sniper rifle.

[[Go! I will meet up at the rally point!]] Ratchet said, as he closed the channel large amount of blaster fire could be heard hitting a metallic object, presumably the land speeder.

“Frak... its just us now.” Kyle said, stating the obvious.  “You two go! I will lay down cover fire!”

“Damn it.” Telok face palmed. “Lets go Saul!” he said as he got up.

Kyle began to lay down the aforementioned cover fire. He managed to pin down a group of imperials and keep them preoccupied with staying alive and not with shooting the fleeing hostiles. It gave the two of them a chance to run for it. As they exited the shelter, they could see Ratchet getting into the land speeder, and operating the turret. He began to open fire upon the Imperial group.

[[Kyle!]] Ratchet began, [[Go!]]

With that Kyle exited the shelter and ran towards Telok and Saul. Ratchet was able to occupy most, if not all of the imperials in the area. They had a break and had a good four kilometers to go until they reached the ship. Not an easy task when you are being pursued by enemies, but in this case it would be necessary. As they ran, Saul saw Ratchet load the land speeder with explosives and set it to fly into the main group of imperials. It did just that, and when it detonated it took out many of them. The last thing Saul saw was Ratchet surrendering to Stormtroopers, which was just before a sniper shot Saul in the shoulder; he passed out from the pain.

He was out for about a half hour, during which time Telok and Kyle had to drag him across the snow tundra. They made great time, and were about halfway to the freighter. The Imperial shuttle had lifted off, presumably with Ratchet aboard, and there were no Stormtroopers in sight. It looked as if they were in the clear, but at a heavy cost. The two men were tired, and dropped Saul when they reached a area with good cover.

“We'll rest here for a bit.” Telok said, showing sadness in his expression.

Saul finally fully coming to sat up, “Im sorry about Grif.”

“He was like a brother to me. We both served in the same squadron, it made us family.” Telok said, trying to not show his emotion. “They will pay for this.”

The weather began to get bad, a large snow storm rolled into the valley as the sun began to set. They needed to get somewhere warm and covered; they again needed a shelter. In the distance there was a structure. Kyle looked at it through his electro binoculars, trying to identify it.

“Its a reinforced tunnel, we would use it for shelter.” He said.

“How far is it?”

“Half a klik, we can make it.”

“Good, lets go.” Telok said as he got up, “Saul, you good to walk?”

Saul stood up, and grabbed some of the limited gear they had, “I'll manage.”

The three of them made the short journey to the tunnel, and upon arrival found a small room inside the tunnel, most likely a storage facility. It would be a perfect place for them to hold out until the weather broke. Though, who know when that would be. They were close to the 'Breaking Point', they would make it very soon.

Imperial Dreadnought “Excalibur” - In Orbit of Corulag, Corulus System

Second Lieutenant Amanda Clark stood on the hangar deck of the Excalibur. She had just exited the Lambda class Shuttle that had brought her from the academy, and to the dreadnought. Her first destination would be to her direct superior, though her orders did not specify exactly who that would be . In the distance, entering the hangar, a man approached.

“Lieutenant Clark?” the man asked as he approached.

“Yes, Sir!” She said, and saluted.

“At ease, can you walk and talk?”

“I can try.” She said with a laugh.

“Good.”

The two of them began to walk out of the hangar, and into corridors of the ship.

“Lieutenant, I am sure you are wondering why you are here.” the man began.
“Yes, Sir. I am.”

“Prior to your departure, there was a defection in the academy that you trained at. I believe that you know the traitor.”

“... Yes, Sir.” she said hesitant.

“You will be leading an operation to capture this traitor. This will be your entrance test as an officer of Naval Intelligence. Capture Saul Aquila, and you will receive a great command position. Fail, and you will be swept back into the ranks of the space junkies. For now though, head to your quarters, they are on deck C. Once you get settled, come to the bridge, and I will give you more details.”

“Aye, Aye; Sir!” She said, and again saluted.

The man began to walk away, “Oh and Lieutenant. Welcome to the world of Black-Ops.”

Once the man was gone she began to walk towards a lift. Once she entered one she set here gear down.

“Frak.”

1500 Hours, 4 ABY – Mission Day: One (One day past scheduled departure day)
Imperial  Dreadnought “Excalibur” – Traveling in Hyperspace

Amanda stood at the door outside of her assigned quarters. As the door opened, and she looked inside, she was in shock. For a fighter pilot, even one that is an officer, the largest size of quarters onboard a ship would a small room. This was the size of a small apartment. There were three rooms total, The main room held the kitchen and general area, in which there were two doors that led to the head and to the bedroom. It was much more than she ever expected to have on a ship, it was perfect.

After she unpacked her bags, which were brought up to her quarters from the shuttle, she walked into the main room. Through the viewport, the sight was directly out of the starboard side of the dreadnought.  Hyperspace always gave an amazing view, the blue glow of the streaks of light. Through there was no time to sit and relax, she had to report to the bridge. Which was located… well she actually did not know. As she walked out the door, she saw a small box sitting on a table near the door. She picked it up and carried it over to the couch in the main room, after which she opened the box. It contained a piece of paper and an item inside a small gray bag. The paper read;
                    Lieutenant,
Enclosed you will find your personal optical computer
device. It has been modified to the specifications
provided by the Commander. It has been upgraded with
any pertinent information  issued to you.
              -INI-D Tech Office

She opened the grey bag to find what looked like a one inch by one inch blue tinted computer screen that was built to go over a person’s right eye. Once the device was picked up and placed on her head, it activated. It provided a transparent overlay of many types of information, one of which was a real time map of her current location. On the map, she was able to see the location of the bridge. She promptly left her room, and followed the map to head for the bridge.

1500 Hours, 4 ABY – Mission Day: One (One day past scheduled departure day)
Tunnel on the Surface of Yetton V, Yetton System

The storm cleared a little later than a day after it started. With it gone, the group had the opportunity to go the final leg to the Breaking Point.

It took some time to get there, but it was worth it. The freighter was badly damaged, but salvageable; a little bit of hard work and it would be back in working order. Kyle immediately headed for the engine room to restore main power to the ship. The other two followed him into the room, watching and expecting the lighting to come back on. As Kyle grabbed the lever, and swung it upward the expected result did happen, though only for a second. The lighting and life support was restored, but an electrical charge was sent through the lever, trapping him as part of the circuit. Saul saw this, and quickly grabbed a piece of a wooden crate that was in the room. He carefully approached Kyle, and once he was close enough he swung at Kyle’s side with it. They both fell to the ground, Kyle from the force of the swing, Saul from the reaction of his own swing. It worked though, and Kyle was free from the circuit, only a little shaken up.

“Frak!” Kyle yelled as he tried to get up.

“Alright, so now that power is restored,” Telok laughed as he said, “Kyle head for the bridge and get critical systems online.”
As he said that, his communicator began to ring. Telok answered it,

[[This is Ratchet.]] The voice said.

“How the hell? Where are you?” Telok questioned

[[Inside the Imperial complex, in their detention facility; Grif is here too.]]

“What, how? He was shot!”

[[They kept us both alive, though I am not sure for how long. I am sending you our coordinates, you guys need to get out of here.]]

“We’ll do what we can, hang tight. Close the comm. channel before they discover you have it.”

[[Right, Discomm.]] Ratchet said, before the line went silent.

Telok looked at Saul, and then began to walk towards the bridge; Saul took it upon himself to follow. Once they arrived, Telok walked over to Kyle.

“Ratchet and Grif are being held prisoner in the Imperial Complex. We need to retrieve them, how long until the ship is ready?” Telok asked.

“Two days, more if you leave me here alone to do it all.” Kyle replied.

“Alright then,” Telok looked over to Saul, “You need to get them out.”

“What?” Saul said in shock of what they wanted to do, and what was to come.

1600 Hours, 4 ABY – Mission Day: One
Command Bridge, Imperial Dreadnought “Excalibur” – Traveling in Hyperspace

She had arrived at her destination, the bridge of the vessel. It was unlike any bridge she had ever seen on this class of vessel, it was much more high tech. There were visual displays across all of the walls, which appeared to monitor every aspect of the ship; it was an amazing sight. She recognized one person though, the Commander that greeted her when she arrived. She shrugged her shoulders, deciding that she might as well report in, and walked over to the man.

She saluted him, “Second Lieutenant Amanda Clark, Reporting as ordered; Sir!”

“At ease Lieutenant, welcome to the Excalibur. I do not believe I introduced myself earlier. I am Commander Karl Westen, and I am tasked with overseeing a special reconnaissance squad.” The man said.

“Why am I here?” she asked.

“Originally you were tasked to be an Intelligence Analyst in the INI, but events have taken place which requires your knowledge. Knowledge that you have gathered over the years, through direct contact with one of our targets.”

“Saul? Is this all because of his defection?”

“No, there is more to it than that. He was sighted in the Yetton system, which is where this task force is currently headed. Our command ship, the VSD Nightfire is in system, and sighted him. The vessel he was on crashed on a planet, Yetton Five to be exact, which holds a Naval Intelligence Listening Post.”

“Okay, but why does this make him a target?”

“On the planet, there are reports that a militant group is basing operations; we fear he has gone to the system to take his knowledge of Imperial systems and protocols to the group.”

“He wouldn’t! I mean I couldn’t imagine him doing anything like that.”

The Commander laughed, “The man just defected and shot his way out of a spaceport. I can imagine him doing this too. Your assignment will be to locate and capture him; you are in charge of
the aforementioned squad.”

She looked at the ground for a second, saddened by the thought of what was to come, and then looked at Westen. “Where is my squad?”

“Glad to hear you are ready. Your squad is onboard this vessel, on deck E; you best head down to meet them. I will be down as soon as we reach the Yetton system.”

“Aye, Aye; Sir!” She saluted.

“Dismissed.”

With that, she had begun her latest mission; to capture a man she had known for a long part of her life. Her optical device brought up the information for the members of her squad, which at the current time lacked a name to identify it. There were three profiles on the visual;
    Tarak Pond
Human Male, Second Lieutenant, Status “Classified”
    Natli Aldsil
          Twi'lek Female, Ensign, Status "Classified”
    Alcen Quelcin
          Echani Female, Ensign, Status “Classified"

“That’s a lot of nothing.” She said, in regards to the data. She would have to meet these people and learn from them first hand.

1630 Hours, 4 ABY – Mission Day: One
E Deck, Imperial Dreadnought “Excalibur” – Traveling in Hyperspace

Amanda walked down the corridor after getting out of the lift. It was a short walk, but it gave her some time to think. She would have to go against someone who she grew up with, trained with, and knew better than anyone else. In addition, she had to command three other people in this hunt. It would be an awkward experience; on one hand she wanted to catch him and end it, on the other she goped they never caught him. As she approached the door, she stopped for a second to get herself together. She made sure she looked sharp, and checked her posture; the first impression meant a lot. Though she through how to do it; would she start as a hard ass and open up as they went, or be the friendly commander who accepts them right from the start. She decided to just wing it, and see what fit. She understood though that she was first and foremost their commanding officer, and anything else was an afterthought. She pressed the button on the panel and the door slid open.

Inside, the team was sitting down an socializing. It was a good thing, they would know each other and it would take away any awkward moments. As she took her first step into the room, a young female Rutian Twi’lek stood up and snapped to attention.

“Officer on the deck!” The Twi’lek, which the optical device identified as Ensign Natli Aldsil, yelled out.

The other two in the room then jumped up and stood at attention. Amanda wanted to laugh, but it would look bad.

“At ease, Welcome to Onith Squad. My name is Lieutenant Clark, your Squad Commander. I see you have all taken the liberty to fraternize with each other,” She said, as the squad got a grim look like they were in trouble, “which is good. Seeing as you all know each other, I will jump right into designations.” She took a step towards the Human male, who was designated Second Lieutenant Tarak Pond.

“Lieutenant Pond,” She began.

He stepped forward and saluted, “Yes, Ma’am.”

“At ease, no need to get very formal right now. You are being appointed the assistant Squad Commander, which means in my absence you will be responsible for our duties. In addition, when we operate in multiple areas, Ensign Quelcin will be your partner; which obviously means that Ensign Aldsil will act as my direct partner.” She said, and then turned to the nearby monitor. “The group we are a part of is tasked with gathering intel on this group,” Amanda changed the display to a picture of known information about the ‘Vengeance of the Palm’ group, “Vengeance of the Palm; a militant group which is a direct threat to Imperial interests in this area. Our particular squad current objective is locating a Imperial fugitive, the former Second Lieutenant Saul Aquila. Aquila was a premier student at the Corulag Imperial Academy, until he fled days before his deployment. The higher-ups fear that he has defected to this group.” She said, as she saw a hand arise. “Yes, Ensign.”

“Ma’am, what details support this defection theory? Has the target had any direct contact with this group?” Ensign Aldsil asked.

“To be honest, we have very little information to prove he is working with them, but enough to warrant an investigation. He was last sighted aboard a stolen freighter which our Command ship, the Nightfire, sighted and shot down over Yetton Five; a planet with an active cell of the Vengeance group. The task force is currently on route to the system to investigate the sighting and apprehend the target.”

With that the squad sat down on crates, which held the new equipment that was to be put out in their room, and began to go over details of current intelligence and mission risks.
