Taking Back Nkllon (Part 1) (Kaph Squadron)

The Wing Executive Officer was sitting at his desk, filing through paper work when he came across an unfamiliar file. Picking it up, he realized it was older, yet still had some meaning to it. The document consisted of various planets that required assistance. The most notable, Nkllon, had recently been taken from the Vast Empire by the rebels. Ph'rranix set the document aside and pulled up the most recent report from the system and searched it over.

After several minutes of deliberation, Stormz pulled his comlink from his left hand pouch and clicked it on, [Chief Petty Officerr Fulfillerr, may I see you in my office?]

A short silence was broken by an affirmative from the other end. Within minutes the Kaph Commander was standing in Stormz' office receiving orders for the first phase of this operation.

[Fulfillerr, I am send yourr squadrron on a scouting mission. You will be heading to the Nkllon system. I want you to searrch for any hostile fleets surrrrounding the system and rreport back to me as soon as possible.  Do NOT firre at anyone. You will morre than likely lack the firre powerr and speed to defend yourrselves. Do I make myself clearr?] Growled the Wookiee.

"Extremely Lieutenant."

[Excellent. Yourr base of operrations will be handled on boarrd the Lancerr Frrigate RRetrribution. Be ready in 24 hourrs.]

"Yes Lieutenant."

[That is all. Now, how about a quick drrink beforre yourr voyage?]

"Sounds great Lieutenant."

=== Boarding the Lancer Frigate ===

Kaph squadron was preparing their ships when an unusual growl came from behind them. Turning around they realized it was the newly appointed Wing XO.  Quickly, each member gave a sharp salute. Stormz gave a quick motion allowing them to return to their jobs as he walked up to Fulfuller.

[I forrgot to mention that I will be joining you. You haven't a clue how borring it is sitting in that damn rroom all day long.]

Ful gave a slight chuckle before commenting, "We are glad to have you aboard sir."

The squadron continued to prep for almost a full hour before finally loading all their necessities into the frigate and heading toward their destination.

OOC:
Alrighty ladies and gentlerats....er men :P I have gotten unquestioningly bored so will be accompanying you all on the mission. Let's have a little fun with this one. Start off with Basic Character Development.

*sigh* You had better hope Nkllon is already on the map and close to VE space, or I'm going to gut you like a fish :P

It's there, so use it!!!

“What the frak? Why won’t this stupid thing go?” said a nearby guard, catching Hunter’s attention.

The guard was kicking what looked to be a malfunctioning security droid. Hunter wanted to get back to his quarters, but the droid had piqued his interest. He walked over and squatted next to the droid, looking it over.

“You don’t know anything about droids, do you?” Hunter said after he finished.

“Not really. Now beat it. I don’t have time for you. I have to get this stupid droid up and running so it can continue its rounds. If I don’t, I could get in trouble.” the guard said, looking flustered.

“If I may?” Hunter said, gesturing to the droid.

“N- … fine. But hurry up. I don’t have all day.” the guard said quickly.

Hunter grinned and immediately set to work on the droid. Five minutes later, the droid was up and asking for orders. Hunter stood up and brushed black fragments of burned material off his hands. He then picked up a small, halfway burned bag that he had set beside the droid while he was working on the droid. He held it up in front of the man. His attention was on the bag, but the horrified look on the guards face when he saw the bag didn’t escape his notice. Lowering the bag, Hunter stared at the man and looked back at the bag. Then, he connected the dots.

“Let me guess. You received some spice and had to smuggle it in somehow. So you decided to put it in the droid. Bad move. The insides of droids overheat sometimes and that set the bag on fire, but it was quickly put out when the droid realized something inside it was burning and it released coolant to stop the fire. But it was too late. The minute, burned fragments that broke away from the bag were swept by the moving machinery inside the droid right into the path of a gear, clogging it up and stopping it. That was why the droid wasn’t moving. Now, I know you probably paid an arm and a leg for this… glitterstim, I think, but I am going to throw it away. Just say no to drugs from now on and you’ll be fine. And just be glad that I’m not going to report you. You obviously hadn’t used any of it and you haven’t confessed anything. Any fingerprints were probably burned away so they couldn’t use that. So run along with your droid.” Hunter said, concluding with a small shooing motion.

He turned and found the nearest disposal unit and threw the bag away. He wrinkled his nose in distaste as he smelled the final remnants of the spice. He remembered hearing somewhere that for you to smell something, particles of that something have to enter your nose. He immediately rubbed his nose because he didn’t want that stuff up in his nose. Suddenly, his datapad started beeping. Taking it out, he accessed the message center and read his new message.

Hmm… looks like Kaph has a new mission. Better get to the hangar.

And with that though, Hunter took off.

It was a time of quiet reflection for Lukas as he stood in his quarters, looking back at the mission that he and his squadron was just a part of. Surviving an entire Rebel assault wasn't fun, to say the least, but it was still a building experience for all involved. Luckily, no lives were lost after the Hammer and Anvil reached hyperspace. Well, except for a lot of Rebels who died for absolutely nothing.

Lukas tried to think that he had gotten at least 10 kills out of the whole ordeal, but just as the number appeared in his head, his comlink lit up with a very familiar voice behind it.

"Chief Petty Officerr Fulfillerr, may I see you in my office?"

Lukas gave off a good smile as he heard Stormz's voice. It was the first time he heard it since his promotion to Wing Executive Officer. He hasn't seen since then, as well, so the thrill of being summoned by him was a bit sudden. But, it was warranted.

"I'm on my way, sir."

Lukas made a dash out of his quarters and headed towards Stormz's office, wondering what he was going to do next. He wanted to have such time of rest after the last mission, but if another mission was heading his way, he was ready for it. He hoped that the rest of Kaph was ready for this mission as well. With his quick steps now slowed as he approached the door, Lukas watched as the door automatically opened for him, seeing Stormz on the other side of the room. Lukas walked in and stood in from of him as the door closed shut behind him.

"You called me, sir?"

"Yes, I did. Fulfillerr, I am send yourr squadrron on a scouting mission. You will be heading to the Nkllon system. I want you to searrch for any hostile fleets surrrrounding the system and rreport back to me as soon as possible.  Do NOT firre at anyone. You will morre than likely lack the firre powerr and speed to defend yourrselves. Do I make myself clearr?"

"Extremely, Lieutenant."

"Excellent. Yourr base of operrations will be handled on boarrd the Lancerr Frrigate RRetrribution. Be ready in 24 hourrs."

"Yes, Lieutenant."

"That is all. Now, how about a quick drrink beforre yourr voyage?"

"Sounds great, Lieutenant."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cantina was a buzz as it was full of patrons who wanted a quick bite to eat or a drink to soothe the nerves. At a table, Lukas and Stormz were there as they took to the liking on some Kessel spice wine.

"So, Fulfillerr, how's rrunning the squadrron going forr you?"

"It's something to get used to, sir. I haven't been in this type of role before, but I am confident that the job will get done."

"I like yourr rresolve. It's that type of mental toughness that will rreach overr towarrds your squadrron. They will follow you to the end of time if you lead like that."

Lukas took another sip of the spice wine, enjoying the variety of spicy flavor going down his throat.

"Thank you, sir. Coming from you, that's a real compliment."

"That's why I picked you forr this squadrron. I knew that you werre the rright one to lead this team once I have serrved my time. I'm glad to see that I was rright."

"And you will continue to be right, sir."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The entire Kaph Squadron was assembled inside the hanger bay of the Retribution. Lukas had placed his gear near his fighter as he had finished his final inspections, seeing that the Interceptor was in top shape as it was ready for another mission. It would be a quieter mission since it was a recon mission, so some energy conversions would be in order.

Just then, a growl could be heard from across the hanger. Lukas turned around to see Stormz entering the hanger bay with his gear in tow. The squadron stood in proud salute as Lukas began to approach the Wookie, wondering what was going on.

"I forrgot to mention that I will be joining you. You haven't a clue how borring it is sitting in that damn rroom all day long."

Lukas gave a slight chuckle before commenting, "We are glad to have you aboard, sir."

Lukas turned and headed back to his fighter, grabbing his gear as he would make the long climb into the cockpit, readying himself for another mission with his wingmates. Placing his gear behind his seat, Lukas nestled himself into his seat as he placed his flight helmet upon him. The familiar scent was a sign that another adventure was on the way, giving him a big smile as he turned the engines on.

Albinostorm was talking to a greatly modified Tri-Fighter, obviously trying to calm it down, and it was sounding very frustrated.
"But i need the flight experience, and i want to get to know your flight."
Albino retorted, beginning to sound angry himself
"I know what you're like, you've already studied their profiles, just in case, and if i'm right, then you will know things about them even they dont. Plus command doesn't want you to fly on behalf of them, as you've not passed basic training, they would have to treat you as a merc, and that means paying up!"
The Tri let off a strange mechanical noise that could be interpreted as a sigh, and the lights in its eyepieces dimmed. Albino turned around and started towards his Interceptor. As he turned his back, the lights in the droid's eyepieces lit up again, and it slowly rotated to turn towards Albino and the other fighter. As Albino flipped open the cockpit door, and atheletically bounced into the cockpit, the Tri droid floated towards Albino and settled next to his starfighter. Albino was cursing to himself, and rubbing his backside.
"ow, my ar... hey! Bane! stop sneaking around! if you want to give me a hand, see if you can dig up any dirt on 'Nkllon', cos that's where we are headed."
An exited response came back to him;
"we? as in you and me? as in i'm going with you!? oh, thanks Albino, really, thanks a lot, i mean i"
"ahh, shut it, nothing guaranteed yet, iv still got to ask my superiors."

After this, Bane busily began with his scan, masses if images flashed past on the screens inside him, ans Albino muttered into a comm channel.

Ok, Bane, we're clear to go out for a test run, to check if your upgrades are working, but i'v not yet got clearance to go on the mission with you. The central ball in the fighter split open, revealing a chair and a few computer screens. Albino Climbed into the seat, and fixed his flight helmet on, he then strapped numerous belts over himself, making sure he was both secure and comfortable. A voice crackled over the intercom just above his head,
"Are you in?...OK, closing".
And with that the sphere snapped shut. The screens flashed on, and the seat hunkered down, and made a series of clicking noises, like locks shutting. The Whole Fighter shuddered and  lifted a few inches off the floor, then accelerated. Once it had left the hangar, it slowed down, and a voice came over the intercom.
"Is that ok?".
There were three buttons on the side of the arm of the chair, one red, one blue and one green. Albino double-clicked the red one, and from the other arm of the chair, a keyboard and fingerpad pops up, and rotates to sit on front of him, another support emerges from the first side of the chair to hold the keyboard still. One of the monitors in front of Albino flicks to a white screen with a series of different icons. Albino scrolls to one and clicks. He then began pressing another series of the keys on the keyboard, and smiled himself after a couple of minuites of this
"Ready to return whenever you are, the stuff is definitely working".
"ok, going back in"

Jolinar was in the middle of a sparring match when the order came through to prepare for a mission.  She acknowledged the order, and finished the match quickly.

"Haran, get ready to go.  The squadron's got another mission.  We've got 24 hours to be ready.  You know what to do in my absence."  Jolinar said to her closest friend, and HK-model droid.

"Query: Which squadron would you be referring to, Master?"  Haran replied.

"Kaph.  So no, you will unfortunately not be joining us.  You know what to do in my absence.  I trust you have sufficient equipment to take care of your duties." She answered as she stripped out of her clothing on her way to the refresher for a sonic shower, leaving the clothes on the floor in a trail.

"Answer:  Of course I do, Master."  Haran replied smugly and unnecessarily.

Jolinar pulled on clean undergarments and a clean flightsuit on her way out of the refresher, and reached for her pre-packed bag hanging on a hook in the wall.  She checked to make sure she had at least three changes of clothing and undergarments, socks, a week's worth of toiletries, and plenty of ration bars.  Satisfied everything was in order, she added her sabaac deck, game droid, datapad and some holobooks, music player, and all the weapons and ammo she wasn't carrying on her body.  Her flightsuits had all been modified to hold more hidden weapons than most flightsuits could.  It came in handy on ordinary missions, and was a necessity for her other job.

Jolinar checked her room one final time, grabbed her bag and after a moment's thought her water purifier, and headed off to report to the briefing room.

As the Lancer Frigate advanced towards the Nkllon system, Lukas made some last-minute specs on his Interceptor, wanting to know if anything as ready for the mission. He looked to his datapad and pressed on a couple of buttons to find out if everything was in working order. So far, so good. It felt good to be out in space, but sometimes, there was a good feeling of being homesick for his homeworld of Corellia. If anything, he would like to see it once more before his time is up. Hopefully, that would be a long way off.

Upon looking, the datapad issues a complete and satisfactory review of the fighter, telling that its ready to go. Lukas nodded at that as he placed the datapad in his pocket and proceeded to head out of the hanger bay, feeling at bit hungry as he headed towards the cantina. The walk was a bit refreshing for it, for it helped to clear his way about the matters at hand, especially since this mission would be the first one that he has ever been on that didn't have to do with a battle. No fighting, no dodging, none of that stuff. Was it a good change of pace? Perhaps, but it was interesting to not have to squeeze the triggers of the stick for once.

A short time later, Lukas arrived at the cantina and looked towards the selections that the place had to offer. He was hoping that they would have some Kessel spice wine for him to drink, but the selection wasn't offered to him. He looked to the operating droid that worked the scene and made the inquiry to it. "You don't offer Kessel spice wine?"

"No, but we do have a version of Naboo sweet wine that you might be interested in. It is a rare find that we do offer here."

"Okay, I'll give it a shot along with a Bothan steak."

"Yes, sir."

Lukas took to an empty table and sat there, smiling a bit as he awaited his order to arrive. He had always heard about the planet Naboo and how it shape the formation of the original Empire, but to taste something from that place would be a fond memory for him.

Hunter had arrived to the hangar to find the whole squadron already there.

Why am I always the last one to arrive?

Sighing, he jogged over to where Fulfiller was standing, snapping off a quick salute as Fulfiller was passed. Slipping into line beside Jolinar, he stood still and waited on the briefing.

***Few Minutes Later***
Hunter let out a sigh of relief as Fulfiller dismissed them and told them to do what they wanted for the next few hours until they arrived in the Nkllon system. Taking that to heart, Hunter was the first one to walk toward the doors. The doors swooshed open, but before he could leave, he heard a very familiar voice, or more like a roar. Pivoting around on his heels, Hunter quickly swept the hangar for the source of the growling. Spotting what looked to be a Wookiee, Hunter grinned from ear to ear and made his way over there. Reaching him, Hunter spotted saw Fulfiller say something, nod and move away. The big Wook was looking around in search of something and turned. Hunter saw his eyes travel down and settle upon himself, and a small smile appear. Stormz, former command of Kaph Squadron and current Phoenix Wing Executive Officer, reached down and gave a playful shove.

“How ya doing, Stormz? Haven’t saw you around here lately. I’m guessing you’ve been busy at your nice comfy desk job, right?” Hunter said, returning the shove.

Stormz didn’t budge one inch. Crossing his arms over his chest, Stormz looked down at Hunter.

[It’s been all but comfy. I swear, I’m getting tired of sitting around all day doing nothing but going over paperwork. I need to go on a real mission so I decided to tag along after Kaph.] Stormz said.

Hunter nodded and walked away.
