Jacen stared out into the deepness of space, his eyes continuously scanning the blackness before him; hoping that some other form of life would appear, but knowing it would never. He never understood the point of living in space, maybe it was to get used to the atmosphere, but why they couldn't stay on land was beyond him.

“Senior Crewman Ryno? May I have a word with you?” A feminine voice said from behind him.

He peeled his eyes away from his sudden asphixciation, if not for the sake of going insane, for at least the sake of addressing the woman. But as he turned, something caught his eye, and it was a shock to even him; A bright blue light snapped out of the side of his vision, he knew the site, it was someone entering the system.

“Sir, I don't mean to bother you, but there are some new pilots inbound, and as you have seen they are already here. One of those pilots is in your flight, and your Flight leader would like you to fly with him, as practice. It's up to you how you do it, whether it's with TIES or personal fighters.” The woman said, Jacen, however, was more distracted by her physical appearance then what she was saying. Mostly by her bright blue eyes.

“Understood, your not a bother at all.  Thank you, and if your still a little nervous; how about I take you out to dinner some time, I hear they are having steak this Friday.” Jacen tried his best not to sound like a loser who was trying to get a quick date, but he knew he hadn't succeeded.

“That sounds nice, to bad I'm taken.” The women grinned and left, Jacen trying his best not to stare.

You idiot, ah well shake it off, you have a  job to do. He quickly picked up the commlink on his desk and put his mouth to the receiver. “This is Senior Crewman Ryno, I believe the shuttle that has just entered space has  Viper 2-7 on board, if possible could you please send him to Hangar 4.” He let go of the button and waited for a response.

“Yes, that is correct, may I ask the reason for your request?” A man's voice came back, it was deeper then he had expected.

“Yes, Viper 7 Flight leader would like me to take the new pilot out for a test run, get him some practice with one of his teammates. I hope that's not a problem?” Jacen's voice was stern, making sure the man on the other side knew he meant what he said.

“Not a problem at all, he will be sent to Hangar 4 as soon as he gets settled.” The man's voice faded out, as the sound of engines filled the background.

They've arrived. Jacen quickly gathered his flight suit, then snatched his helmet off of his bed. Then briskly making his way out the door.

Alright, there's the first post, you can continue it however you want. Just make sure you either end it with me meeting up with you, or something along that lines other than that it's a go with the flow story.

EDIT: alright, I made a slight change. Where it says Viper 2-7(once viper 7-3) It's just a little thing I made up Viper 2 is your flight, and 7 is your number on the roster, hence Viper 2-7 just a small little code, i don't think it's officially the code, but for this story it is.

“Senior Crewman Kyle Thorn reporting for duty. Viper 7” The man said, his hand shaking slightly as he went into a weak salute. Jacen couldn't help but grin, it was like looking into a mirror, and seeing a reflection of how he had acted when he had first joined the Navy.

“Ha, at ease, Senior Crewman Ryno, friends call me Jacen. And you don't have to salute, I'm the same rank, but you may if you feel comfortable with it.” Jacen just stood there, letting his hand extend outward. Kyle visibly relaxed, his hand grabbing for Jacen's, turning it into a firm handshake. 

“So I was told to come here, something about training or what not.”

“Yep, our flight leader, Sicario, wants me to fly with you, see how you handle certain situations. The fighters are getting MILES lasers put on them at the moment, they should be done soon. But for right now, why don't you check out the fighters.” Ryno paused and lead Kyule towards the tow fighters docked near the east corridor, an Actis-7 and a Porax-2.

“Are those the fighters were going to be using?” asked Kyle, a hint of skepticism in his voice.

“Yep, they aren't as old as they look... okay, they are, but they still run as good as ever. I've pretty much fixed them up to todays specifications, so don't worry when you fly which ever one you choose.” Jacen quickly glanced over at Kyle, who was paying more attention to the fighters then what He had just said.

It took mere seconds before Kyle finally spoke up, “Whichever one I pick? Do you have that authority?”

“I hope so, they are mine after all.”

“Wow, why only pick one with hyper drive?”

“Oh, heh, I really don't need two, the Actis is more for looks, the Porax is the one I normally use, when not having to fly one of the TIEs.”

“Ah.”

“So why don't you look them over, it looks like they technicians are done with adding the lasers, once you choose just let me know and we can get started.”

Kyle immediately made his way over the Actis, making it look like he was checking it over, but Jacen knew he had already chosen. But instead of prodding him to get going, Ryno just waited.

Jacen grinned at Kyles enthusiasm, it was something that he hadn't seen in a long time; but it was good to have someone like that in the Navy, as long as they didn't over do it. Although, at the moment he didn't have to worry about that, they were just going to practice. No harm would come to either of them, unless the system was to be switched of for some reason.

“Alright, here's the deal, we'll start out by doing flying side by side; one fighter will be deployed, after that two more will be deployed, then to finish it off three more. After all waves are depleted we will face off, it shouldn't take us long, depending on how well you can pilot that fighter. So any questions?” Jacen took in a deep breath before placing his helmet atop his head, he had tried to say everything at once, big mistake.

“Nope, just wondering who's going to buy the drinks.” Kyle said, his voice was muffled, indicating he had already suited up.

“Well, the depends on who wins, so you better make sure you have credits.” Jacen taunted, the edges of his mouth curling slightly into a smile.

All jace heard on the other side was the sound of Kyle laughing, and buttons being pressed and switches being flipped. Well, at least I know he's confident. Jacen thought, going through his own pre-flight check up.

He went through his normal routine, checking the target computer, making sure the lasers were working, and doing a quick system scan to make sure nothing was disconnected or working improperly; once everything checked out he put the fighters engines on standby and waited. It didn't take long for him to get the all clear to head out into the vacuum of space, but what he didn't' expect was to see Kyle already coasting towards the great darkness. It was a shocker for Jacen to see how fast Kyle had gotten the fighter up and running.

“See you out there, Jacen.” said Kyle.

“Yea.” was all Jacen could muster up. Instead of worrying about it, he fired up the engines, the quiet hum was a satisfying sound. Once he activated the repulsorlift he felt the fighter wobble as it lifted off the hangar deck, then slowly coast out into the space beyond.

Here it goes. Jacen decreased his speed slightly, knowing it would give him a better chance against the TIE/d. It wasn't like he hadn't fought them before, but something inside him wanted to show Kyle how it was truly done. Patience, the ultimate virtue. Quickly He steadied his breathing, relaxed and loosened his grip on the control stick; his full attention was on the TIE.

“Come one, stay still.” He tried to hide his frustration, but it was impossible.

“Need some help.” Kyle asked.

Jacen hadn't even heard him, he was more focused on  the task at hand then anything else. Which was staring to anger him even more. And the more he tried to outmaneuver the TIE the harder it got.

Bait the trap Ryno, bait it.  The thought came to him instantly, he had never done it before, and it was risky, but worth the shot, after all they didn't have actual lasers. “Here goes nothing!” Jacen exclaimed, pulling the fighter up and immediately turning around into another flight plan. He hadn't expected it to work as fast as it had; the TIE immediately shifted it's flight and followed after Jacen, who was already getting away faster.

“What the heck are you doing?!?” Kyle yelled, realizing Jacen was heading straight for him.

“Get behind the TIE, I can't take it alone.” Jacen was irritated as it was, the thought of giving Kyle the upper-hand just made it worse.

“Are you saying...?”

“No.”

That was the end of it, Kyle immediately followed orders. Jacen saw the orange colored fighter shoot forwards and disappear out of view from the P-2's viewport. The radar in the corner however revealed Kyle's position, but before he could even check he saw the green dot position itself up behind the fighter; then almost as soon as it got behind the red dot, the dot disappeared, letting them no it was destroyed.

“Good job, get ready two more, on my mark.” Jacen said, moving into position to meat the fighters.

“I knew you couldn't do it.” Kyle said.

“Not now.” Scolded Jacen, knowing that a smile had spread across his face. It didn't matter, this was more of teamwork exercise, not a contest of who was the better pilot.
