Story 2: Explosives Deployement
Boom…..was the sound of Drakar throwing his alarm clock across the room and smashing up against the steel wall.
As he came to so did the effects of the previous day’s intense workout and Drilling. He rubbed his shoulders a little bit before walking over to his closet. As he was getting dressed he noticed that his datapad was lit up, so he walked over to it and read what it said.
“Drakar, Please report to Professor Okafor’s class for a 30 minute lecture, which will be followed by a field test after a short break for lunch.
After he read the message he finished getting ready. Once he was finished he grabbed his gear and headed out the door, stopping at the cafeteria for a quick breakfast.
As he was finishing his meal he looked at the clock on the wall and realized he was going to be late if didn’t hurry, so he left the mess hall and found the classroom and walked inside.
“Drakar, good to see you again. Now grab the datapad from my desk and start studying because this test won’t be as easy as the last one” said Okafor.
Drakar let out a small sigh before taking his seat because he had to work his butt off in the last one and it was definitely not a cake walk.
After about 10 minutes or so Okafor began to give minor points about how the test would take place later on. He gave some tips about how many people would be attacking after a certain amount of time, what equipment they had, and where they would be going.
While he was talking Drakar’s eyes began to shift around the room looking at the different posters and objects that were around him.
He noticed that on the wall to his right was a picture of a base that had a huge hole in the wall. This gave him an idea to try during his test.
As soon as he looked back at the professor he said, “You have fifteen minutes to do whatever you need, whether it be gather your things, or grab some chow. The shuttle will leave on time, and we will not wait on you.”
Drakar got up and walked out with the rest of the class.
He knew that he only had ten minutes or so until he needed to head toward the terminal so he quickly headed toward the cafeteria for a bite to eat.
As soon as he walked in he immediately noted the long line, which would take the whole time, so he decided to head back to his room for some fruit he had in the cabinet.
While he was eating, he began to come up with a plan of action for his test that was about to happen. He figured it was better if he did it now so he would not be wasting time later.
After he finished coming up with a plan, he immediately headed for the shuttle because he did not want to have to repeat the class for missing it.
Once he arrived he checked in a got onboard. As he was walking on he noticed that the shuttle was relatively empty.
“I guess some people got caught up in the lunch line”, thought Drakar as Okafor climbed onboard and closed the door behind him.
Once the shuttle landed he stepped off and put his helmet on. His neck muscles were still a little sore from not being accustomed to the weight of it, having not been on a mission in a while.
In front of him was some very tall trees with leaves the size of a fist and several abandoned buildings crumbling from the vegetation surrounding it, followed by a hill to the left.
“Drakar, it is your turn. Your time starts now.”
His mind started racing, and he sprang into action. “First I need to set these charges on this building here and while this crumbles I can go start raking the leaves.”
As he was raking and placing the leaves in two big trash bags, he heard an explosion followed by a very loud noise as the concrete support beam fell over into several large pieces.
After finishing getting a sufficient amount of leaves he headed back over towards the crumbled concrete. He quickly wrapped several chains around it and began to drag the pieces toward the right so that he could protect his flank and force the ambush to come from the front.
“I better set some timed charges here, just in case they happen to make it through my field”, said Drakar looking at the building right next to the hill. “I bet they will try and use this as cover”
By now sweat was dripping from his hair and he knew that he didn’t have much longer until his time of preparation ran out.
He quickly wired together several strands of rope and attached pinless grenades to them. The only thing keeping them from exploding was the rope holding the safety lever down. He made sure that the ropes would cover the area where the attack would come from and also made sure that he spaced the mines out in no particular pattern.
Once the ropes with grenades were set all that was left was to cover them with the leaves he had gotten. It took him probably around five minutes or so to get all the leaves spread out so that it looked natural again and for him to get set for the ambush.
Once preparation time had run out, ten men came charging toward his location. Out of the ten two men went running straight out onto the field and immediately were disposed of.
The next three were a little bit more careful and looked down at the leaves trying to see if there were more explosives. The one that happened to be in front made a wrong step and tripped a grenade causing him to explode, which sent his limbs toward the two behind him causing them to fall on more mines.
Drakar was watching the action from the other end of the field and started to get a little cocky.
“Man, this might be easier than I thought it would be.”
Three more came the exact same way, but this time stepped on the bodies of the others to safely make it across. The leader pointed for them to take a different route, one up the middle, and two to the right.
To the right was the building where the set charges were and before they could get out of the way they were both disposed off.
Drakar had seen that not all three had gone that way so he knew that one of them was still alive, so he decided he would stalk the other three people remaining.
He quickly climbed on top of the shed to his left to get a better view. He could see the two trailers entering the field while the one from the last group was trying to find a way around the building, but was blocked by the hill.
Once the first guy was in range he pulled out his vibroblade and readied himself to leap off. In one quick motion he dropped on the guy, knocked his weapon away and stabbed him in the chest.
“One down, two to go” thought Drakar.
He quickly moved around the building to where he could see one of the two men motioning to the other one. He decided that he was going to try and kill him with the building itself so he placed a charge on one of the support beams and tried to bait the guy into coming his direction.
Surprisingly enough, the guy took the bait and walked right into a trap. As soon he was close enough to see Drakar, Drakar waved and set off the charge causing him to be crushed by the huge amount of concrete.
“One left”, said Drakar muttering to himself.
He saw that the last one was examining everything around him to make sure he didn’t walk into a trap, which gave Drakar an opportunity to sneak up on him. As he was sneaking he accidently broke a twig under his left foot, which alerted the man in front of him of his presence. The man quickly turned around and began to shoot wildly.
Drakar dodged a couple of blaster bolts before tackling the man with his sword, driving it deep into his chest.
“Drakar, well done. And might I say, good idea of using a funnel. I can’t say I have ever seen that tactic before in all my years of doing this. Anyways, good job and you may return to base and await your next class. From here on out, it only gets harder.
“Thank you sir”, said Drakar as the shuttle door closed behind him.
