Story 1
Vehicle Operator

It had been a long time since RK had been inside a vehicle garage, the last time he was in one was before his last speeder race on Coruscant; He had lost that race. He walked around the various vehicles, speeder's, speeder bikes and cruisers. This was an odd hangar for a Galactic empire, but it was sufficient.

He continued to walk around to the sign-in desk. The different smells of coolant and other liquids filled his nostrils. He had tried to fight it, but he just couldn't. As the smells continued to come, he was back in that garage out behind his old apartment complex, working on his Speeder for the hundredth time, hoping whatever he did would make it faster.. Ah, good times, good times.

RK snapped out of the flashback and was back into reality. He stood in front of the sign in desk. Nobody was there. He noticed papers strewn all over, stains covered the floor and parts to various vehicles were laying in a corner. wow, what... a nice place.

He rang the bell a couple of times, hoping somebody would come. No luck. He decided maybe it was almost closing time. might as well come back tomorrow. He did three sixty on his heel, and turned around to see a man staring him straight in the face.

The man stared him in the face for a little bit then grinned. “May I help you?” The man said.

RK was still in shock from the surprise of it all. “Yea, I need to Sign-in.”

“Ah, your the new guy. Follow me.” The man hadn't introduced himself, but the name tag on his uniform read: G'ut Jusik.

RK followed Jusik into the office , still cluttered with parts and papers. Jusik sat down at the desk before him and turned it on, it took almost five seconds for it to completely start up.

“You have you chip with you?” Jusik asked, holding his hand out, waiting for RK to hand it to him. RK understood and reached into his coat pocket pulling out a small chip held inside a plastic case. The case was blue and was about the size of a datapad, the chip however was half the size and set in the middle. RK handed the chip to G'ut. Who swiped it quickly and shoved it into the computer with one motion.

“Ah, Wraith squad, I used to be a Wraith, good squad, back when Snipes was SL; Who's the SL now, arnaut?” Jusik las continuing to look at the computer screen, typing and entering information as he went.  A bar indicated he was downloading the information.

does this guy ever shut up? the thought crossed RK's mind more than once. Jusik seemed like a nice guy, but he could talk like crazy. “Yea.”

“Alright, here's your chip.” Jusik wrote on a piece of flimsi and handed it to RK, it had some numbers on it and a name that didn't look even real. “That's your instructor, give her that paper, she'll know what to do.”

_-_-_-

A smell filled his nostrils the farther he walked down the hall; it was a familiar yet very distant smell, it was almost palpable in it's origins. It got stronger, and stronger; he felt like he was about to pass out, luckily he was standing in front of the door he was meant to be at.
He knocked, but no answer. what is it about people not being around here? Maybe it had to do with the stench.

“Wait, WAIT!” Someone said on the other side, or was it behind him?

RK spun on his heel and noticed a woman walking, no running, towards his position. He didn't know whether to run himself, or wait for the guy to get there. Whatever he decided he would have to do it fast. To late.

“you must be the new guy. Where's your sheet?” The woman asked. She was breathing heavy, her blond hair was as straight as could be, it was nicely done for a mechanic; she wore the normal crewman outfit, only instead she had a white tank-top underneath and her uniform was unbuttoned. She was stunning, RK had to actually keep himself from staring.

RK handed the piece of flimsi to him. Her hands shook a little as she took it; She looked over it and then stuck it in her right chest pocket.

“Well, your here for repolsorcrafts eh?” The woman said, her voice sounding a little suspicious.

“That's correct Ma'am” RK was starting to stiffen up, he was almost tempted to go into a salut, then again he didn't even know her rank, so he fought it.

“Don't be so formal, call me Christina. Tina, Chris whatever you feel comfortable with.”

“Well then Christina....” A grin spread across his face.

“Shall we continue then?” She said, trying to get things underway. She wasn't strict like most army women that RK had met, she was casual.

“Yes let's”

_-_-_-

“I understand you used to be a Speeder Racer, so you know the basics.” RK was awe struck, how she knew that he didn't know, he was going to ask regardless.

“How?”

“Ohh, I keep read the files, It gets dreadfully boring around here, very easily.” this time a grin spread across her face.

They walked down to the landing platform. Millions, or what seemed like millions, of repulsor craft vehicles lined the ground.”How do I choose?” He said, sarcasm in his voice.

“Oh, were not actually going to drive any of those... where going to use that for your first lesson.” She pointed to a little metal box in the corner it was cylindrical in shape only it had more of a Cockpit look to it.

“a simulator?” He was puzzled, it showed.
“Yea, speed demon , where not going to let you drive one of our most expensive vehicles until you prove you can.” She had an evil look in her eye. RK caught himself staring again.

_-_-_-

Images sped by him as he sped through the terrain before him, it was nothing but a blur of black and illumination. He didn't know how to control this specific type of speeder, but something told him he should have waited to.

“Alright hot shot slow down, this isn't your average racing speeder.” Christina was communicating via commlink. Her voice sounded a lot different over the radio, bur he could still understand her.

He didn't know how to slow it down, he only knew how to speed it up, luckily this was a simulator; Christina had already stopped him dead.”now before you go off speeding like an Di'kut again.”

she knows Mando'a, impressive. “Alright, so what do I do.”

“Alright basics, this is a Q-1600 landspeeder. It's common among many civilians in rural areas as well as many large cities, due to it's full cover and 260 kilometers and hour speed. I don't know if you'll run into one, but it has all the basic controls that you'll need. First, you know where the accelerator is at, but to refresh your memory it's along the steering column, however there is a accelerator on the floor as well.” Her voice faded away.

“Sounds easy enough, now why couldn't you show me this in non-active model that's not running?” RK asked.

“Because, your going to drive this one, like a civilized person so that you can get used to it.”

“Stupid simulators.”

“Anyway, now onto the brake, it's on the floor to your right, you also have an emergency brake lever to your right. Now that you know how to go and stop, slowly accelerate; if you look to your right in front of the Emergency brake there is a speed controller, it increases the speed manually, if you don't want to have to worry about pressing the accelerator to hard or to soft, if you want set it now. If not, go ahead and drive I will continue to explain as you go.”

this can't be that hard, it's a simulator, if I wreck all I will get is a shock and a slight rumble from the thing. He pressed the accelerator slowly, it started off. The images on the view screen started to move, slowly,m but they increased quickly. “Wow, this isn't that bad.” RK commented.

“Alright, now if you would look a the board in front of you it displays a few things you need to know. It has your speed which is measure in Kilometers, it starts at one and goes up to two hundred sixty, on this model other might actually go faster. To the left of that one you can see one that shows your power, it let's you know whether you can keep going or your going to stop. And to the right of the speed meter there is a heating measure, it tells you whether or not the speeder is about to blow, just in case you've been driving non stop for no reason.”

While Christina explained RK stared at the illuminated, digitally-animated meters. They were put right in front of the controls. It looked so real that he could have just touched out and felt everything around him, even the images of the landscape looked real.

“Alright, the tour is almost complete. Look to your right. There should be a radar screen right above the speed controls.”

He reached out and touched it, he could only feel the smooth outer layer of the simulator, it actually made him feel like he was living in a dream, but he still followed Christina's orders, while still trying not to run into anything.

“It tell you ahead of time if you may en up running into another speeder, It also has other HUD items that you can select, like you can access the holonet, and other stuff you may need. Well, that concludes are tour I will let you mess around with the simulator while I figure go finish something. Happy driving.” The comm went dead and RK could here metal clanking outside the simulator.

This could be interesting.

Passed.  Looks you caught most the spelling/grammar mistakes.  And good job, the first one of any spec is usually the hardest in my opinion.  I guess I'll take over grading your specs until Rogueboy gets his exams done with, so PM me when you get a new one up.

Story 2
Navigation

RK could barely see through the view port of the SCS-19 Sentinel . Rain pounded down, making it hard to see five feet in front of him; it would have been a lot easier if he wasn't in an enclosed area, then again it would have been easier to just stay home.

“Beautiful day.” Christina was grinning from ear to ear, she knew it was supposed to be raining.

“Now, would you like to tell me why you brought me here?” RK didn't understand why he had to drive through the pouring rain, it wasn't going to help him, much.

“It's simple, learn to navigate in the roughest conditions, and this is as rough as it gets; other than hot atmosphere's, which in that case i's just a matter of checking and making sure your engine doesn't over heat. Well anyway, you might as well start learning.” Christina paused to fix herself in the seat. With the way her figure was, it was hard for her to keep comfortable.

“So, considering the visibility, the possibilities of wrecking are very very high, so how am I supposed to navigate through this?”

“Well, first off you could use the radar, if you had half-a-brain.”

“Half-a-brain? You calling my a di'kut?” RK was turning red.

Christina giggled. “No, not at all, but that's what radar's for, it let's you see obstacles without seeing the path itself.” She pointed to the radar screen, the screen was square, it showed little yellow dots right in front of their position. “The yellow dots are neutral, in other words those are trees, rocks and other things that aren't harmful, unless ran into.”

“Kinda complicated to tell how close you are, isn't it?”

“Yea, that's why that's the old fashioned version.”

“And your teaching me this why?”

“Cause not all vehicles have this.” Christina pointed to a button to the right of the steering columns. “Press it”

“What is it a self-eject button?”Sarcasm could be herd in RK's voice. He took up his hand and stuck his index finger out and slowly pressed the button. Instantly screens popped up on the front view-port of the SCS. He recognized some of the screen, but other things were foreign. “That's cool.”

“I thought you might say that, now do you know what they do?”

RK grinned and looked over at her. “No”

“I thought so. Well let's start with the one right in front of you.” She took out a laser light and started pin-pointing sections straight in front of them. “That one is the landscape, it's updated every five-point-two seconds, via the Holonet. It shows you the landscape and the exact position you are on, it changes fast enough that you can react if you know how to use it.”

“Okay, that's a little better, but it's still not helping.”
“Maybe this will” Christina hit the button again and the view changed. It was blotched by different colors, more green and white then any other color. “Infrared viewing, built into more updated models of different vehicles, not many though it's not something a normal citizen would need. Though it can be used through this program.”  She handed RK a datapad, smaller than a normal one. “Just put that one your datapad, but right now let's see how you handles this.”

“So you want me to navigate in the rain, through forest, with just the help of the infrared technology as my guide?” RK said, his eyebrows furrowing.

“Yep, but if I were you I would take it easy, and besides it's no that hard, just navigate around the images that are shaped like trees.”

“yea easier said then done.” RK put his full attention on the infrared screen and hit the accelerator very slowly.  The SCS-19 went into a slow crawl.

“Wow, I thought you were a speed demon.” Christina said.

“Right.... not when my life is on the line.”

It was harder than it looked, twice Christina had to yell at him and tell him to turn right or left. RK was getting the hang of it, but not that fast. He kept his eye on the screen, jerking the speeder to the right and then back to the left, hoping the rain would stop so he could turn the screen off and speed off, it would be a lot easier.

“Argh, please tell me you know how long this rain is will last.”

“Nope, sounds like it's letting up.” Christina still didn't let him go.

The images started to come faster, he hadn't even realized that he was accelerating faster, but it was getting easier the more he concentrated on just the screen and anything else around him.

“Alright, now here's another thing I might as well teach you now,  you have to keep watch on everything including your speed and that no threats are around, which is why you'll have to keep watch on your radar.” Christina had stressed the radar.

“That's all there is to navigation?”  RK asked

“Pretty much, it's just control of the vehicle and making sure you react and are able to see what's ahead of you.”

“Wow, so were done?”

“Nope not yet. Flip that switch.” Christina pointed to a switch above the button, RK had pressed to turn the screen on.

RK did what he was supposed to do, he flipped it and the screen turned off to reveal a water soaked ground and light trying to shine through the forest. AS he looked he noticed a tree heading straight for them, or in other words he was heading straight for it. He jerked the control sticks hard and the the SCS-19 almost on I side. As he let the controls straighten back out and the SCS-19 rattled back onto it's normal position.

“Yea, and make sure you know what's coming before you turn it off.”

“Yea.” RK saw the opportunity to speed ahead. He increased the throttle and looked down to check the speed, they were moving 50 kilometers a second.

“Slow.. down!!!”Christina yelled at the top of her lungs.

RK however was having the time of his life, weaving between what little vegetation was left as they began to exit the forest. “YEEE HAWWWW!!!”

“Okay I get you can navigate!”

RK immediately slowed down as the land turned flat, and the trees and vegetation disappeared behind them. “That was fun, let's do it again.”

Christina just looked at him and shook her head.
