I'm upgrading some computer parts and recently bought an Intel Pentium E2180 Processor HH80557PG0411M, 2.0GHz, 1MB cache, 800MHz FSB, Allendale, Dual Core, Socket 775 CPU (OEM). (For only $50 with my $20 rebate!)
My motherboard is an Intel D915GRO, version AAC89748-202, Socket 775 LGA.
A roommate suggested the Dual Core processor because he recently bought one (a slightly less efficient model of 1.8 GHz - $75). He looked at it a bit further (after my purchase), and mentioned that he was thinking the processor I bought may or may not work with my current MB due to chip set differences.
I don't want to install the dual core, have it not work, and then not have a working computer until I buy another MB.
So, the question is: will I have any problems? Will the dual core not work with my current MB or will I have nothing to worry about?
