Welcome to the Navy, Armony. I am the Executive Traning Officer (TX) for the Naval Academy.

Let's get you started on training. Firstly, I will direct you to this link:

Flight School

The first step is pretty straight forward and involves creating a biography for your character. You will post that on the "Naval Academy" section of this ComNet. You can find examples by other members bios here:

Navy Members

Other than that, there's not much else now. I encourage you to find your way onto IRC as it is a great way to meet other members. This can be done either by downloading mIRC and following the "IRC Tutorial" on the main page or using "JavaChat" found a couple links under the ComNet once again on the main page.

Once again, welcome to the Navy and I look forward to serving with you.

Name: Armony
Age: 18
Weight: 150
Height: 5'6"
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Hair Colour: Blonde
Eye Colour: Blue
Planet of Origin: Zaloris

Physical Features:
Mostly Average physical features.  Has very distinguishable scars from his childhood all over his body.  Has next to no physical strength and no means to physically defend himself due to the face he is very weak.

Personality:
Armony is not very open.  He does like to socialize and gets along very well with other people.  He refuses to talk about his past, therefore nobody but him knows about his childhood very much.  He is very easy going and easy to get along with.  When it comes to overall personality he is a nice guy.  Just dont try to talk to him about his past, because then he can be a huge jerk.

Skills:
Armony's skills really only lie in three areas.  Flying, sneaking around (stealth), and cards.  He is very skilled in flying and stealth-like actions do to the fact he spent a lot of his childhood having to sneak around stealing ships and flying from place to place, or stowing away on ships to get him where he needed to be.  He is high good a cards because he hustled a lot of money growing up playing sabacc that way he wouldnt have to resort to stowing away on a ship or just plain stealing one to get him to where he needed to go.

Brief History:
Born on the planet of Zaloriis, Armony grew up right on the edge of the mountains.  Zaloriis wasn't a very inhabited place, but everyone there was very friendly with each other.  Everyday Armony and his dad would go up to the edge of the mountains and gather food and other resources and sell it to the locals so they could make money.  One day Armony's dad went farther into the mountains.  Armony's friend Rakiel told him that he would never see his dad again because of the ghosts that lived in the mountains.  He refused to believe Rakiel, but after a few days his thoughts started to change.  Eventually Armony just gave up on waiting for his dad and decided to start doing the daily chores him and his father always used to do.

One day while Armony was gathering his food for the day, he saw a ship fly in and land in the woods a ways away from his villiage.  He decided to check it out.  When he got there he noticed it was soldiers and they were unloaded tons of cargo.  All of a sudden another ship swooped down and Armony quickly ran back to his villiage.  He told Rakiel and his father about the ship but they refused to believe him.  Everyday he would go and check out what the soldiers were doing, and one day he saw a ship take off and leave.  Quickly Armony snuck up and stowed away on the other ship.  He had dreamed about leaving this planet everyday since his father had disappeared.  Armony spent the next years of his life wandering around from planet to planet not really knowing where he was at all.  He spent his time hustling money in cards to either buy his way to somewhere else, or he would just sneak onto a ship and stow away.  Eventually he got to the point where he was tired of hiding out on ships all the time and gutted up the courage to steal a ship for himself.  When this proved to be successful he stopped stowing away on ships and just started stealing his own to avoid the worry of getting caught on the ship.

One day Armony saw a nice Imperial ship docked an a space port he wasnt really sure the name of.  He decided to make the steal of a lifetime and go for the ship.  Little did he know there were Sentry droids on the ship that were set to stun intruders.  When Armony boarded the ship he was instantly stunned by a droid.  Later when the Imperial soldiers were back on the ship they jailed Armony and started making him work on the ship.  Eventually, as he worked more and more, he started to like being around the Imperials and liked working with them.  After a few years of working for them he decided to apply as a pilot for the Imperial Navy and see if he could actually become something other than just a farmer from Zaloriis.

Chapter II Assignment

The Break Turn:

The Break Turn is one of the most simple of basic maneuvers, and is the first one that you learn.  It is mainly used to just get a sharper turn.  It can be used both offensively and defensively.  Offensively it can help you because you can turn faster and sharper helping you find and shoot your target much faster than just using regular turning.  Defensively it is helping if someone is coming up behind you trying to target you, or if they have already targetted you and are trying to shoot you you can turn really fast throwing them off you and make them try to target you again.  You can also use it to easily knock someones targets off you, then you can turn around and target them back and shoot them down.

The Sandwich

The Sandwich is the oldest trick in the book that involves a pair of fighters.  It is used when an enemy fighter is targeting a comrade and can't escape.  You follow up behind the fighter that is behind ur comrade making him sandwiched in, hence the name.  Then you wait for your comrade to break off from the enemy and then you fire at the enemy once your comrade is clear destorying your enemy's ship.

Report

Activity
So far this week I joined the Vast Empire Navy and I have been working on my basic training.  I wrote my bio and studied up on the basic maneuvers when flying.  I hope to have Basic Training finished and take my Aviator's Exam either today or tomorrow.

Welcome to the Imperial Navy, Armony, and great job getting your assignments done so quickly.  While that's advantageous in such a way that you become active faster, you did miss out on some of our complementary discussions, so we'll add those below after I run through some of the critique.

First: your bio wasn't half bad.  It's very vague and doesn't seem to have a whole lot to it, but that's actually okay.  The bio in its current state is really more of a base: something we use to get you stated and expect to evolve over time.  Two things that immediately caught my eye about it though: where's your mother?  And who first taught him to fly?  I used to ask- where did he/she go to school?  But it's occurred to me that capable pilots may not have needed to go to an actual school and/or could have learned from their parents basic math and whatnot- either way: who was his teacher?  His mentor?  If you can answer me those: then you've got a bit more of an explanation and basis to continue.  Edit your bio according to your interpretation, wants and needs, however.

Maneuvers: the 1st one was pretty good, but the Sandwich is actually a tactic more than a maneuver.  I understand that it's on our maneuvers section, but I'd still like to see another maneuver; I'd be glad to pass ya for this chapter if you did that.

Report: That'll do just fine.  Keep in mind that those reports are an excellent way to show your superior officer that you're not only around, but preciselly where it is you're being active and benefiting the group: get into a habit of sending them in weekly and you'll be rewarded for your efforts.

As soon as those objective listed above are complete, we'll be happy to place ya, Armony.  Also, I received your exam and will be grading it within the next couple of days.  In the meantime, here's some of that fun background info I spoke of; you can either read it and absorb as much for ya as you can or completely ignore it, but know that these are available resources to better experience the VEN; let's start with possessions and whatnot, yes?

Recall that in your initial message, certain items were given to you- where did they come from?  You might be wondering where you see and buy all of these items?  If you look down the left hand side of the main page in the navigation, you'll see that you have a First Galactic Bank account- that's where these items are stored.  Most of these items will be purchased through the link located directly under the Bank's; the Imperial Center Store is the primary mode of purchasing for members in the VE- perhaps you'd like to shop around yourself?  Note that if you're short  on cash, the Pay Per Click link, also in the navigation, allows you to earn easy ICs and help the VE community at the same time.  Until next time- carry on, Armony.
