Welcome to the Navy, Kaz.

Let's get you started on training. Firstly, I will direct you to this link:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flight_School_%28FS%29

The first step is pretty straight forward and involves creating a biography for your character. You can find examples by other members here:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:NavyMembers

Other than that, there's not much else now. I encourage you to find your way onto IRC as it is a great way to meet other members. This can be done either by downloading mIRC and following the "IRC Tutorial" under "Resources" on the main page or using "JavaChat" found a couple links under the ComNet once again on the main page.

Once again, welcome to the Navy and I look forward to serving with you.

Name: Kaz Tyric

Age: Nineteen

Race: Human

Homeplanet: Shintel

Height: 5"10

Weight: 163 Lbs

Hair colour: Black
Hair style: Short, recent buzz-cut
Facial Hair: Thin goatee

Eye colour: Hazel

Scars/Notable features: A tattoo of his parents names on his back (Right shoulder)

Appearance summary: Kaz is still youthful in his looks, he is a average for his age, not towering over others but neither being forced to look up at them. His hair though short is well kept his facial hair the same well groomed to keep it in control. His face itself is clear, spots and the typical signs of the teenage-years are not present. Kaz is well built, toned to an above average state. He is neither weak nor mighty, put simply in a fight he can hold his ground. There isn't many things particularly significant about his features, in a crowd he would not stand out. Notable markings are a tattoo on the rear of his shoulder. The names of his mother and father are written in black ink. It is his full intention upon joining a Squadron in the Navy to have another tattoo of their insignia.

Personality: He is a calm man, willing to learn and grow into himself. But a firm beliver in caution he is relaxed with many people he meets, though cautious to what they would want from him. At times this can be a burden but to be prepared there in lies an advantage. Kaz can be agressively proud, his parents mostly hold much of his respect. Thus joining the Navy he hopes to play a key role in the Empire, bringing respect to himself and his family.

Biography: Born on Shintel to a poor family Kaz always admired the forces that was based at the depot. Spending many days watching the fighters overhead, sometimes even traveling to the north of the planet during the rainy seasons to see them training. As the years passed his admiration for the Empire grew, he drew the pictures of the servicemen and their ships and reading many holobooks relating to the Navy. At the age of thirteen his father decided to join, more wealth and prestiege was in the forces. When Kentor Sarne's fleet arrived to move into the Kathol Sector Kaz was green with envy but massively proud of what his father was going to be doing. His mother of course continued to work, credits were sent to her to keep the family going but she was still to work hard for herself and her son. For that Kaz respeced her, she worked not only for herself but for him to, before signing up to the Navy he ensured that their names were attached to him (via the tattoo), ensuring that they would be with him throughout his career.

On the day he left for the academy his mother was the one to see him off. Boarding the ship he was ready for the long journey ahead of him.

Nice bio Kaz, quite enjoyable to read and I'm glad to see you are in the right time period with your history.

If you follow the flight school link I posted earlier, you will find "Chapter 2". For this step, you will make a post here describing two of the flight maneuvers in your own words. It may take a click or two from the Flight School page, but the list of maneuvers shouldn't be too hard to find.

Congrats on passing Chapter 1, keep up the good work.

The Immelman

To begin, the first manoeuvre will be the basic Immelman, i will then move onto the more advanced Inward Turnabout. These have been chosen because of the value they hold in formation flying as well as their defensive advantages.
Firstly the Immelman is considered neither defensive or offensive, though one could argue the value of a sudden altitude change can have a large effect on the outcome of a battle. The procedure can be done in a few easy steps;

1. Pitch the nose of the fighter upwards (climbing verticaly is optional and generally can be done in high-thrust fighters only).
2. Rolling the fighter 90, 180 or 270 degrees will effect the direction when the climb is terminated.
3. Break away from the vertical climb and level off the wings. Your direction now will be the result of the roll during the climb. And more importantly you should have gained some much needed altitude.

As previously mentioned this could be used both defensivly or offensivly. Defensivly the sudden change in altitude and direction could leave trailing ships behind. Thus evading enemies. On the other hand offensivly at a higher altitude and direction the Pilot is at an advantage, he or she can choose to launch another attack, from a new direction and height an enemy of course will be taken by suprise. Rendering them bantha fodder.

Crossturn or Inward Turnabout

As promised the more advanced Inward Turnabout procedure will be explained, but before that i'll discuss why it is key to flying in smaller squadrons. Being a pilot is all about trust. Trusting the engineers to have your TIE fully operational to the best it can be. Trusting your navigators not to plot you a wrong course. But most importantly the two things to should consider most when being a pilot is trusting yourself and the other pilots in your squad. The Turnabout can be a dangerous manoeuvre to perform without such trust. A head-on collision in the air can cost lives. Ensure you and your partner understand the necessary angles and speed during the crossover. The Inward Turnabout is performed thus;

Both fighters break hard inwards, Pilot A (begining below B) takes a higher turn, so that by the end of the procedure A is in a similar to pilot B at the begining of the excersise. Meaning of course to cross over, Pilot B (begining above A) must turn as well as loose altitude, to finish the manoeuvre below the point of Pilot A begining.

To fresh pilots it may seem a daunting procedure but with trust in the other pilot and of course practice it can be used in many different circumstances;
- Changing direction
- Checking blindspots for one another
- Evasion
- Quick turning to begin pursuit
- Meeting threats from the rear

Thank you for the time taken to read my assignment.

Cadet Tyric K.

Nicely done, Kaz.

The last step of training before you are placed in a squadron. A template and other information can be found by following "The Squadron" link under Chapter 3.

Keep up the outstanding work.

Kaz's report
November 27th, 2007

Activity: This week i joined VE and have quickly enlisted in the Navy, begining and proceding through my training with enthusiasm. With that i have been working on my character page on VEwiki which i'm keen to fill with service information. Finally i have been making sure to read through posts both in the VE storyboards and pages of both wookie and VE wiki.

Upcoming plans: In the coming days i wish to join a squadron and then work on a solo story to show other members what i am capable of. Alongside that i will continue with reading posts and pages from the comnet and VEwiki to ensure i don't make errors when writing alongside others

Questions/Suggestions: I'm new to the coding wiki works with, if i can i'd like some help to make my page better.

Congratulations on completing training, Kaz. Now it is just a matter of Shazam placing you in a squadron. He is a bit busy these days and is not guaranteed to get on everyday, but we'll have you placed soon.

In the meantime you are welcome to work on your wiki page, and/or the Aviator's exam (link is located at the bottom of the Flight School page).

As far as the wiki page, I think the idea was to get the new recruits to learn Wiki editing if we can, but I am on IRC quite a bit if you need any help. I will likely be updating the Character Page Tutorial after work tonight, so that should help a bit.
