The sun shone bright on a warm, breezy day. The smell of restaurants wafted through the streets as people relaxed in anticipation of the coming weekend. The city had a vibrant energy today. Gimp watched a young boy flying a kite on top of a building as he ambled along in his brand new OP-5 Swift Repulsorlift Landspeeder. Vader black with an open top and room for four, he cruised along with the wind in his face heading nowhere in particular. He had not been a member of the Vast Empire for long, but had already amassed a tidy sum by voting to commend it's greatness around the galaxy. He had just left the aftermarket shop earlier and was enjoying his new toys. They had installed a ridiculously overpowered stereo system, loud enough to rattle the scales of a Barabel. Already having the volume up illegally loud, his disdain for the law made him turn it up louder, shaking the windows of nearby buildings.
His favorite new addition however was by far the repulsorlift overloaders. Connected to the four corners of the vehicle by buttons under the radio, they would cause the repuslorlifts to temporarily engage a stronger setting. This would cause the corresponding corner to lift higher depending on the button pushed. He came to a stop to run another "test" on them, pressing the top two buttons three times in succession. The front of the Swift hopped three times in response with Gimp laughing gleefully. He then began pressing all for buttons in random order to the beat of the music. As his new baby danced in the street he couldn't help but feel he had made a good choice by joining the Imperial Army. As Swifty (as he would now call her) came to rest he jammed down the accelerator, launching his new ride down the street. After smiling and driving for about an hour he remembered what else he had planned for the day. He made the next left and headed across town, hoping to get there before they closed.
As he pulled up to Crazy Habib's Discount Droid Emporium he noticed they were open until 2100 hours and had no need to rush. "Oh well." he said to himself as he walked into the store. Inside he found a engineer's wet dream of circuitry. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling, the place was just packed with robotic technology. He walked around the isles for a while, looking at the myriad models until a salesman approached him.
"Is there anything I may assist you with, sir?" the young man asked?
"I've been doing a bit of research..." Gimp responded "and was wondering if you had any BD-3000s in stock."
"Ah, a most discerning consumer indeed. We don't get many requests for that particular model but we have many options and upgrades available here at Crazy Habib's, I'm sure you will be pleased. Right this way, sir."
He followed the young salesman down a long isle, around a corner and into a side room. Rows of identical "female" droids awaited his selection. The salesman turned to him " Perhaps you would enjoy one of our fully articulated lekku attachments? Maybe a more
hidden specialty piece?" the salesman asked with a furtive smile.
"No thank you. The standard model would be fine, but I would like a few software additions."
"Of course, sir." replied the salesman as he took out a datapad to record Gimp's preferences.
"Well, I would like her to be able to bodyguard anybody I assign her to, keep my living space secure, and teach me the finer points of Imperial and New Republic weaponry."
The sales man smiled as he took down the information. "We have a comprehensive suite of software that we can install very quickly, making your droid highly capable to suit your needs."
"Excellent." Gimp responded with a smile.
"Just a few more things, sir. First, would you like your droid to have a custom voice, or one of the many factory presets?"
"A preset will do fine." answered Gimp. The salesman then proceeded to tell him the variety of voices available. "Can you mix Breathy with Sultry?" Gimp asked.
"Of course, sir." the sales man replied before going over the options concerning the droids personality.
"Can you mix Affectionate with a good dose of Sassy?" Gimp asked with glee.
"Very easily, sir." The salesman then uploaded the preferences to a programming droid who instantly scurried over to the nearest BD-3000. The small droid quickly crawled up the larger droid's body and opened it's head, flashes of light and whirring noises apparently signifying the works commencement. Before he knew it the small droid was back on the floor in a state of standby, the head of his droid closed.
"Just one more step and we will be finished. You must tell the droid what to call you, wait two seconds, then tell the droid what you will call her." the salesman stated plainly.
He walked closer to the droid and took a few moments to think. Satisfied, he spoke "Daddy... ... Love."
The droid twitched slightly and took a step toward her new master. "Hey there, Daddy." she practically moaned to him. A huge smile went over the trooper's face and all he could think was "SWEEEEEET!"
After paying for the droid, he held the front door open for her and watched the lifelike way she sashayed out the building. He opened her door for her before getting in himself. As they left the parking lot the droid turned to him "I really like your ride, Daddy." she purred.
"So do I Love, so do I."
He took her back to the new three bedroom apartment he had rented. After spending his entire life living alone, the barracks had been driving him insane. They walked into the sparsely furnished apartment and the droid asked " Did you just move in here, Daddy? Or do we live a life of poverty?"
"Haha, no Love we're not poor, I just moved in today. Say would you mind fixing me some dinner?"
"Of course not Daddy, what would you like?"
"Surprise me."
He left for his room while the droid went to the kitchen and got to work. After a moment he came into the kitchen with his hands behind his back. "Hey Love, I got you a present."
The droid turned around and bounced happily. "Really, Daddy? You got something for me? What is it? What is it?" she asked excitedly.
He took his hands from behind his back, revealing a brand new DT-57 Annihilator heavy blaster pistol.
"Ahh, it's one of my favorites." the droid exclaimed.
"You'll have to protect our home when I'm not around you know." he told her.
"Our home." the droid repeated as she stepped close to him, lightly placing her metallic lips on his cheek. She seemed to smile as she turned back to the stove, a compartment in her thigh quickly opening and closing where she placed her new gun. Gimp sat near her on the counter and asked her about the factory she came from, and what sort of things her circuitry found interesting.
