I have heard some confusion about this, so I'm going to clear things up now. The ranking structure is as follows, from top to bottom:
NCC
NXO
Fleet Commander
Ship Captain
Wing Commander
Squadron Commander
Flight Leader
that's it, that's the position structure. Here's anotehr little tidbit of info. No one may order anyone around unless they hold one of the aforementioned positions over someone, or they are an officer that has passed the FOCE. This means that a PO1 can't tell a LCRW to do something unless they are his Flight Leader. That simple. I've heard some things that this has been a point of confusion, so let it be known now. If I hear anything else about any member abusing supposed "rank", then they will get a demotion to a not so illustrious rank. That is all. -----------------------

Can I mention something you missed?
Orders come from the top. If you get conflicting orders from your Squadron Commander and your Flight Commander, you take the orders which come from higher up; In this case from your Squadron Commander.
And I believe Retired, Advisors and AWOL personell have no position benefits (Advisors are about the same as Adjutants, only Advisors are for the entire NHC, whilst Adjutants are for a specific position)? So if I try anything.. grab them trouts! 
Oh, and remember the CoC on IRC. Show respect for ANYONE with a higher rank than you, because they're earnt it.. although that should go without saying.

Amen to that! Even if there is really only one person I can boss around anyway  *shrug* Ahh well. The respect thing is a good point though, I don't see nearly enough (ie almost none) of it. -----------------------

As NHC members, you are not in command positions. Other than the academy and whatever Daishi does, and the fact that both of you are officers, you are not in the chain of command. Although you do order your adjutants around at will.... -----------------------

Oh, and a new handbook is being compiled for the Navy....been working on it for about two weeks now. Still not really happy with it, so when I am, I'll get LCRW Ossry to put it on the Navy page. I expect EVERYONE to read the one the late Atrus posted on there, and also the revised Officer's handbook (the one I'm writing). I don't care if you're a Crewman, there will be things in the Officer's handbook that pertains directly to you, as well. That's all. -----------------------

riel, i got a question
say excluding the officer clause, in case it doesn't apply to the particualr person, can a SC from venom, like Japheth,command a FM from viper. he is at a higher tier, just off to the side, does it have to be directly above.i know in real military things you can basically be ordered around by any person in a position higher than you. -----------------------

His first note said that you had to be in one of those positions *above* the person, which to my way of thinking means that you hafta be their direct commander. Its the chain of command. If I have a problem with a FM of Viper, I do not address it directly, I ask their SC or FL to deal with it, and if I have a question for my wing commander, I don't go to whoever Wing 1's commander is, I'd go to you.
