Howdy- I'm the Officer of Training (TO) of the Vast Empire Naval Academy (VENA) and our staff (VENA-S) will be helping you through the majority of your basic training (BT). We like our abreviations, lol. Anywho, the Naval Academy's BT program requires that you do a few simple assignments, read some of our materials and then take a short exam of our given 'training' to ensure that you picked up what you need to know. The first step, since we are primarilly a writing club, is to get a bio written up. Our operator, C-3PX3, will be putting down the next steps of your training as you progress, but he as well as your Trainer, Tomas, are invaluable to you since you can always ask them questions and join them on IRC to aquire more detailed information. If nothing else, IRC is a great way to meet new people so I highly suggest you find the link on our main webpage (left-hand side in the navigation, under "Logistics"), you click the chat applet called jIRC - it'll link ya right in with our main rooms. If you need help with the Navy, just ask around for someone from the staff- if they're not present, just about anyone with Navy experience can probably help you as well. If nothing else- just leave your questions, comments or concerns here. I hope you'll enjoy your stay, Ibram; welcome to the Naval Academy.

Thanks for the welcome i look forward to getting involved. Here is my submission for FS:1 Character Development. Name: Ibram Tyrol Age: 19 Weight: 10 Stone Height: 5”11 Gender: Male Species: Human Hair Colour: Dirty Blond Eye Colour: Blue Planet of Origin: Yaga Minor
Description: Ibram is a tall, thin, broad shouldered young adult with short hair, and sharp eyes. Despite being broad shouldered, he has a guarded, slightly withdrawn demeanour, like he’s constantly pressing through a crowd and doesn’t want to hit anyone. He wears casual attire whilst not on duty, and favours a green sleeveless jacket with a hood – a personal item from home.
Physical weaknesses: Ibram suffers from general unfitness, and has mild joint problems in cold environments.
Personality Diagnoses: Ibram is usually an open and charming man with a smile on his face. Having had to do a lot of business for his Dad back home, he can be very diplomatic. He has a sharp wit about him, and is considered quite intelligent, although he prefers not to show it off. Ibram likes to “switch off” from the world every now and then, becoming very reserved, quiet and thoughtful, which is sometimes mistaken for reclusive-ness. Ibram rarely gets into arguments, especially between friends, and likes to sit on the fence unless he feels strongly about something. Whilst never considered “the joker”, he never-the-less has a smart comment to make every so often. Ibram has always been respectful of his superiors, and is good at following orders that he agrees with/understands, however problems sometimes occur when he is told to do something he doesn’t like. And he’ll usually let you know that he doesn’t like it.
Quirks Often likes to lead people through circular conversations/discussions, possibly in an attempt to confuse them/put them off guard. Also likes to play “Devil’s Advocate” a lot. At the moment, Ibram is going through a period of mourning over the loss of a loved one, however this rarely shows, and is expected to pass. Usually tries to prove to the world that he can do something/is worth something. Possible result of child-hood bullying.
Worst Identified Trait: When he back chats. Thankfully, this is limited to when he disagrees with something, which is rare. (Possible indication this is based on principles.)
Pilot Diagnoses: Wingman – Ibram likes working in a team, even if he would rather it be himself that is leader of said team. (Everyone has an ego.) Tests have shown that the more Ibram knows/gets on with his team mates, the better he works with them.
Skills: Ibram has shown he is a quick and eager learner, with a sharp eye and a sound judgement. He has also shown proficiency with personal firearms, and has taken courses in self-defence. In terms of piloting skills, he already has the skills needed, and can already fly some civilian and ex-military vehicles.
Brief History: Born on Yaga Minor, Ibram was raised by his father on the outskirts of the Yavvitiri Spaceport, where his father worked as a Deck-Chief. Ibram managed to pick up some skills in mechanics whilst watching his father work, but never devoted the time needed to master the subtle points. His father taught him how to pilot from an early age, and being close to a spaceport, he picked up various “tricks of the trade” from a few of the pilots that hung around the spaceport. Ibram was home-taught through the early stages of his life, however once his father set up his own business, Ibram was taught in an high-standard school in one of the neighboring cities.
It is thought that his experiences with home-tutoring lead him to have a constant thirst for knowledge and new experiences. Ibram was bullied a lot during his early life, and whilst usually this makes a child anti-social and depressive, as Ibram grew older he grew more open, and eventually the bullying stopped and he became a valued friend to many of his former bullies. This helped him develop a “thick skin” and also made him good at hiding negative emotions. A maxim he has always held onto is “Always look on the bright side.” Not much is known about Ibram’s mother, only that she was killed in a shuttle collision shortly after giving birth. Ibram’s uncle is part of the local Imperial Garrison, and so Ibram was exposed to the Imperial Army from a very early point. After passing his exams at the age of 16, Ibram took a citizenship course and passed at 17, which enabled him to join his father in the local business. He spent a year working for his father, before deciding to 'float' for a bit whilst he figured out what he really wanted to do.
Ibram eventually got engaged to a girl he had known since a very young age. Proposing a few months before he enlisted, Ibram and his fiancee Marisa has just moved into their own place before she also died in tragic circumstances. Whilst this didn't prompt Ibram's immediate enlistment, it did make Ibram want to leave Yaga Minor all together, with the eventual goal of military enlistment.
His father had no real qualms about Ibram joining the Navy, as he had expected him to join up much earlier, and the business was doing so well it didn’t need Ibram helping anymore. Ibram only had a few really close friends, which is how he liked it, and whilst they were sad, they were also moving on with their own careers anyway.
As it happened, the Carrack-class light cruiser Thespian had been docked at the shipyards for sometime, having needed repairs. Ibram had run into some of the crew as he was based at the spaceport at the time, and had made friends with some of them. Repairs almost complete, the Thespian was due to depart within the week, and Ibram learned from the crew that they were headed to the Rheagent system, home to an Imperial splinter faction known as the Vast Empire. Ibram sought permission from the Captain to accompany them, and enlisted upon arrival.
Having lived in around the spaceport all his life, Ibram already possessed the basic skills he needed to join the Navy, and so was more suited to life as a pilot as opposed to a soldier like his uncle.

Hi Ibram, I really enjoyed your bio though one thing kind of stuck out. During the time period we are in (Thrawn Era), Corellia was under New Republic control not the Empire.
A suggestion I'll make as how to fix this is to mention CorSec as the "local militia", etc rather than the Imperial Army. This would also work with you choosing to leave Corellia rather than be trained and fight as a member of CorSec on your homeworld.
Hope that makes sense, other than tha well done.

This is my submission for Flight School Basic Training, Chapter II. I have been given permission to proceed onto Chapter III by instructor Tomas. The Break TurnSince I believe that ‘the basics’ are the most important aspect of flying, my first chosen manoeuvre is: the Break Turn. As stated in the manual, this is first trick in the book, but it’s potential to develop into more advanced moves is great. Offensively, it can be used to acquire an angle of fire, whilst at the same time reducing distance from the target by cutting into their own turn. It is essential that not too much speed is applied, in case you overshoot, however you can easily use the “Lag Pursuit” to bring yourself back in line with your target. The Break turn may even develop into a “Barrel Roll” if the situation calls for it. Defensively, the Break Turn is extremely effective in dodging target locks or laser shots. By breaking at a sharp angle, and then accelerating at speed, you move yourself to a sharper angle that leads away from your enemy’s line of sight. This forces them to try a manoeuvre of their own to try and get behind you, but whilst they do that, it opens up options for you to counter the attacker, either by going into an Immelman and trying to emerge from behind, or diving into a Split S. For Wingman flight, I find the Break turn would be very effective in initiating a “Sandwich.” Should a bandit appear from the rear, both wingmen would execute a break turn, as expected, but the outside wingman would decrease speed in an effort to drop behind the bandit as they follow the first wingman. Obviously the bandit may spot this and disengage, which leaves us open to attack him/her, or the bandit may have his/her own wingman, in which case a different strategy may be required. It must also be noted that these suggestions may also be used be used on me in turn, so it’s always handy to keep an eye out, and to try and find new ways to counter. Offset Head-on PassThere are always situations, either accidental or deliberately engineered, where one may find themselves ‘charging’ and enemy head-on, in what back home we called a game of “Chicken”. This is where the offset, Head-on pass comes in. The TIE fighter is one of the more manoeuvrable in the VEN arsenal, and posses the speed and agility to make quick, sharp turns. By using the Offset Pass, you break to the opposite vector that your opponent is taking, and then execute a Break turn, slightly decreasing your speed as to bring yourself about in a 270 (?) degree turn so that you end up behind your target, who, Gods willing, will still be more or less heading at the angle he veered of at. Worst case scenario means that he/she would have executed their own Offset, in which case you will most likely face another head-on, but, hopefully, they will only be turning of at a shallower angle in an attempt to find out where the hell you’ve gone, in which case you can execute another break turn to cut in behind them for a clear shot. Hazards regarding this manoeuvre involve: The fire that you may be exchanging whilst you are charging towards each other, and/or breaking at the same vector as the target, which may either result in a collision, or a screwed up offset. Extra Curricular: Smoke and MirrorsWhilst on fighter sim’s back on Yaga Minor, myself and my friend Trak developed this highly effective manoeuvre ourselves, which uses some basic tailing manoeuvres as a distraction, it requires a wingman (or two) and is highly effective at gaining missile locks. When a bandit is spotted, the Leader accelerates slightly, getting ahead of the wingman in order to cut in behind. Using laser canons to try and keep the target on a more-or-less straight course, the leader occupies the target, whilst the wingman hangs back in an attempt to get a missile lock. Theoretically, the target will think it is the leader trying to get a close range missile lock, and will break when the missile is registered as away. However, since it is actually the wingman who fire the missile, the missile will have plenty of range to approach the target at a reasonable angle, even when it breaks. The Leader then does a loop as if executing a Offset pass, and comes back into line with the wingman. The two then track the target, going in again should it survive, or moving on if it’s destroyed. Hazards encountered whilst using this manoeuvre are: leaving the wingman vulnerable to counter/ other bandits. Leaving yourself open to a counter by other bandits. Should the target have his/her own wingman, manoeuvre is less effective; however there are other manoeuvres available that can be entered into from this position, such as the Offensive Split.

This is my submission for Chapter III. I am also reading the Wiki tutorial, and will have my Character Wiki up shortly. Crewman Ibram Tyrol November 17th 2007Report Activity This week I Joined Vast Empire and enlisted into the Navy. I began and completed Basic Training, and entered Flight school. From there, I proceeded to complete Chapters I and II. I have also thoroughly explored the Vast Empire site, signing up to some Impericare plans, and also checking out the Stock market and Store. I have looked through the various Comnet threads, and toured the VE sites/sub-sites in general. Upcoming plans I plan to take and pass the Aviators exam, and get fully into Role-playing by developing my character and taking part in whatever I can.
