Tactics AssignmentFlight Maneuver #1: Immelman
The Immelman is to increase altitude while changing direction, all at the same time.
First the pilot must climb sharply, executing half of a loop. The pilot then inverts his aircraft and executes a roll into the desired direction. Finally, the pilot levels off and executes a half-roll to once again reassume a vertical position.
The Immelman is used when a sharp change of direction and an altitude increase are both needed. It is neither a offensive or defensive move, but can be very usefull in both situations.
Flight Maneuver #2: Break Turn
To begin a break turn, the pilot must execute a quater-roll (so that he or she is flying with wings perpindicular to the ground) in the direction he or she wishes to turn. The pilot then pitches the aircraft sharply in that direction. When the new direction is reached, the pilot executes a quater-roll to right the aircraft (the aircraft should now be flying parallel to the ground in a new direction, right side up).
The Break Turn is one of the most basic fighter maneuvers. It is used to turn sharply in a new direction. It can be used as a defensive maneuver to avoid both laser fire and missles. It can, however, also be used as an offensive tactic to aquire a target or cut off an opponents turn.
