Ok, still tweaking the Academy training system, so here's another idea that Darr and I have liked:
Upon joining, the recruits would post on the Academy ComNet their "hey, I'm here" - everyone can welcome them, etc.
Next (or perhaps even in the initial email they're sent upon joining), they will be given a website with the descriptions of the following generalized specialties:
ComTech (Communications)
Gear Head (Vehicle Engineer)
Hacker/Splicer
Medic
NOTE: The names above were completely pulled out from the air - they're not set in stone.
Each Echelon Squad on the roster would each represent one of the four generalized specialties. If, say, John Doe chooses to be a Medic, then he'd be placed into the Medic Echelon (Echelon 4). This way, the Squad Leaders could see who's going to be Medic, ComTech, etc.
What they will do once they're actually in the Echelon squads, I'm still thinking about, and need to talk more with Darr.
Anyway, your input would be great. Let me know if you're for the idea, against it, reasons why for either decision, etc. Cleric "Cosmic" Vor'soth

hey Cos, I'm for it because I think it would be good for the new Troopers to know which Specialties they want to do so they can start the stories right away.
Though , can I suggest we make them do different stories than the ones that are on the Wiki? That way they have to complete the same stories for each levl like evryone else? That'd be Combat Cooking.
I really like the idea. It gives the troopers a choice more than saying "Go to point A, do that, then go to Point B and do that..." It helps them choose a path for their character and really start to develop their character more. Senior Sergeant Arnaut

Would we placing people related to the specs in Echelon head positions? Cause we seem to lack a nice number of comm techs and slicers.
And doesn't the comm tech form the prerequisite for slicer/hacker? I suggest add combat Engineer in the spot of the slicers |

As far as I was told, these aren't the main specialties we all know and "love." They are kinda more introductory. They will still acquire their main ones from me or Rizz when they join a Platoon. Now, I may have been told incorrectly, but hopefully not. Sergeant Major Kairo

The specialties would just be very general - they may not even do any writing in that field until they meet up with Rizzit for the official specialty. These would just be descriptions and introductory details. Cleric "Cosmic" Vor'soth
