Okay, I actually joined in January but am just now starting mostly due to: A. nervousness  B. I am a bit of a horrible writer  C. Indecisiveness. It said in the inrtoduction reference thing that the first thing to do is basic training so if anyone could point in the direction of that it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Navy Vegabond. My name is Tomas, and I am part of the training staff for the Vast Empire Naval Academy.

The first step will be to create the biography of your character. This is the physical description, emotional makeup (what tends to be going on in his head in certain situations), and a brief history of your character. You can find examples on the Wiki (link is below). Please post your completed copy in this thread when you're finished and I (or one of the other staff) will read it over and either give you the green light to move on to the next stage or give small suggestions as to changes you should consider that you might not have thought of. Glad to have you here.

Name: Savric Tyrles
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Homeworld: Anaxes
Height: 6’ 2”
Weight: 200 lbs
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Brown, Medium-Length parted to the right
Age: 21

Physical Description: Of a muscular build, prefers his uniform to civilian clothes. Is meticulous about keeping his hair and uniform neat. His skin is tanned and he has bags under his eyes from never getting enough sleep. He has very thick hair and deep set eyes. Is almost always frowning.

Psychological Description: An intellectual, Savric is shy and quiet he often avoids public gatherings and doesn’t have many close friends. Enjoys philosophical essays and military history. Has a minor inferiority complex.

Background: Growing up on Anaxes, Savric led a fairly uneventful life. His family was supportive of the Empire since the days of Emperor Palpatine and he is no exception. He has spent his entire life living in the shadow of his older brother who was an accomplished pilot at a young age. His entire career before joining with the vast empire navy he was a labourer at the Anaxes Citadel where he did mostly manual labour and like loading and unloading freighters and refueling ships. In his spare time he liked to read the technical manuals for ships and as such he knows a lot about ships even though as a mechanic he is fairly horrible. His decision to join the Imperial Navy came about when his brother defected to the side of the Rebellion/New Republic (not sure which time period this is in). Instead of being fuelled by revenge he just needs to be better then his brother.

Sorry 'bout that vegabond, I thought I had replied already. Anyways, nicely done. To answer your question we are in the New Republic era (Thrawn is currently giving them headaches, though we don't generally interact with the characters from canon).

For the second step of training, I will point you to the "Pilot Procedures" section of the Academy. Your task is to locate read up on the flight maneuvers and describe two of them in a post here (in your own words). If you have any trouble, feel free to message me here via the Message Center located at the top of the ComNet.

I'd also suggest making your way to IRC. A tutorial can be found here:

http://www.vastempire.com/main/ref/irctutorial/

If you don't want to download mIRC, you can also use the java IRC. It's link is a couple under the ComNet on the main page. You'll find it's the most commonly used form of realtime communication within the Vast Empire.

Keep up the good work.

Welcome to Vast Empire. My advice is, get the training out of the way as fast as you can. It all goes uphill from there.
I am not real. How can you be talking to something that doesn't exhist.

The Split-S

This maneuver is used to shake off a pursuit. While in mid-turn roll the ship upside-down, then pull into a dive. Then you pull back to come out of the dive and right yourself at the same time. You will have gained a quick burst of speed and be taken out of the range of your enemies’ guns. This maneuver only works when there are no missiles are involved as they have a much farther range. This move would be particularly more effective in an atmospheric battle as it relies partially on gravity for the speed boost, not sure if it would have the same effect in a space battle but it could still get you out of range.

The Sandwich

Used when you are in pursuit of an enemy when one starts to chase behind you. As the enemy slips in behind you so too does your wingman slip in behind him and lines up for a shot at their back. Your wingman just has to be careful not to hit you when shooting at the pursuing enemy. Useful only with a wingman (obviously) but this maneuver can be used in either space or atmospheric battles. A few things I can see going wrong with this technique is that the pursuing enemies’ resultant explosion might hit you with either the explosion itself or a shockwave depending on whether or not you were able to get far enough away in time. Also, they could pull the same thing on you bringing in another enemy to trail your wingman and attempt to take him out.

Also I downloaded the mIRC client but I'm not sure whether or not I can load it since I access the site through a school computer so I'll probably just use the java one.

Alright- not too bad, man.  I think I'll pass you on this chapter have you create a wiki profile.  If you're wondering how this is done, check out our wiki profile tutorial here:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Character_Page_Tutorial

If you have any questions, just run 'em by us and we'll help you out as quickly as we can.  Note that you can also use jIRC and it's just as effective as using mIRC- if jIRC doesn't work, mIRC won't work.  Thanks for stickin around man- school has made it tough to get to you folks, but keep up the good work and we'll have you in a squadron as soon as you've completed your own wiki profile.

I finished the wiki page but there were some minor issues.

A. I didn't have anything to put in some of the tables so I cut them out for now.

B. For reasons unknown to me my Pilot Rating/Proficiency Table doesn't look like the example.

Not sure if thats a problem but oh well.

Nicely done vegabond. I will let Shaz place you in a squadron (which I'm sure he'll do soon). I'll look into the pilot profficiency problem on your Wiki and see if it's a typo somewhere on your page or the tutorial.

In the meantime, take a look at the Aviator's Exam. It is the last aspect of training, and usually done your first week in a squadron, but since you're around might as well get you started on it.

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Aviator%27s_Exam

EDIT: If you could come up with something other than "I got nothin'" for Notable Skills, that would be good. Perhaps there is some aspect from your history that gives your character a skill or two. If not, perhaps just put "Coming Soon." or something along those lines.

Yes, there was an error in the coding. Sorry, my bad. I fixed it both in your Character Page and in the tutorial.

Actually, I'm surprised there weren't more errors. I didn't expect them to be giving it out yet. Thanks for testing it out for me.

I'll try and get to your exam tomorrow evening, Vega- sorry it's taking so long, but time is going to be very limited during the middle of the week, at least for a while.  If I can get a status report from Nazgul, I'll be able to say for sure where you're going in my reply to your exam.  Thank you for being patient.
