  Aphamos and LK's Excellent Adventure

"HEY, HOW'S IT GOING!" yelled Aphamos as he ran through the entrance area of the barracks, heading towards a face he hadn't seen in a while.  He quickly slowed down, regaining his composure at the sight of his friend who always retained military posture and countenance.  He finally reached his friend and moved his hand forward, the other trooper shaking it and setting his hand back to his side in the same exact position that it had been earlier.  "It's been a while, hasn't it?"

"Well, you obviously haven't forgotten about me, so I suppose it hasn't been long enough," replied LK, not the slightest bit of humor in his voice or expression.  Aphamos smiled, still noticing the humor in the remark even though the speaker's attitude was the opposite.

"Boy have we got some catching up to do.  How about we stop by the cantina for some more conversation and maybe a drink or two?"

"I can't right now, I have stuff to take care of," said LK, turning towards the entrance hall into the barracks.  "I have to put my stuff up and get a few things straightened out before I can go anywhere.  I'll keep you informed though."  He picked up his bags and started to walk past Aphamos, heading toward the halls.  Aphamos looked at his friend again, thinking about where he had been this entire time.  Since the mission they had last had together, the thought of LK always reminded Aphamos of Ezjarl, LK's brother.

"Where's Ezjarl?" asked Aphamos before LK got out of hearing range.  LK paused for a moment, not turning around.  He looked down the ground for a second, merely rubbing his thoughts off and continuing his walk through the halls.  Aphamos thought hard about LK's reaction, various situations about Ezjarl going through his mind as he turned and headed toward the simulation rooms.

------------------

Aphamos walked to the entrance area of the barracks again as he saw LK waiting for him in the center, punctual as usual.  They had decided to meet and go to the local cantina to talk-LK made clear that there would only be talking on his part.  The troopers greeted each other with a nod, both of them heading out of the door and catching their transportation just seconds before it left.  They took a seat at the back of the vehicle as it started moving, a faint hum breaking the silence that filled the interior of the vehicle.

They arrived at the cantina, Aphamos and LK taking a seat inside and waiting for the bartender to approach them.  "Take care of all your business?" asked Aphamos, curious as to what LK had to do.  LK nodded, the bartender coming to them and asking them their drink orders.  "Corellian ale for me."

"I won't be having anything," said LK, turning back to Aphamos.

"So I've been thinking," said Aphamos, a smile coming onto his face.  "It's been a while and we've got a lot of catching up to do, and I can't really think of a better way to get caught up than a vacation.  So how about it?"

LK-486 paused for a moment. He turned to his grinning friend with a passive face.

"I do not take vacations," he stated plainly. "There is too much to be done for the Empire. I have already been away for long enough."

Aphamos chortled as he sipped his drink.  "I've been back too long already! Anyway, I've got the perfect plan: luxury space voyage!" Aphamos raised his glass hopefully. "Besides, it'll just be a "leave extension". You're technically not back on the books yet. Just ask for a little bit longer, and-"

LK-486 looked straight into Aphamos' eyes. Aphamos found it hard to look back. Trooper 486's eyes seemed so full of determination. No arrogance or pride went with that look. It was pure resolve to stick out even the worst of conditions for the Empire, no matter what the cost. Aphamos' pleading would do no good.

Aphamos sighed, and looked down at his Ale. He cast a sideways glance at LK, who had now turned his attention to a televisor screen playing a pod-race. He opened his mouth to speak, and quickly shut it. Suddenly, a light went on in Aph's brain.

"LK," He began.

LK-486 turned his attention back to his friend. "Yes?"

"We're not just going for a vacation...um...in reality...it's....a....um....recon mission."

LK frowned. "I wasn't notified."

"Aphamos smiled again. He just had to reel LK-486 in now. "Of course not! It's a...guard mission, yeah! It's our duty to ride this luxury liner and make sure that...everyone stays safe!"

LK-486 continued frowning, and looked down at the stained metal of the bar. Then he looked at Aphamos. "Very well then. If it is the will of the Empire, I shall go."

Aphamos smiled a little guiltily. He felt a little bad about fooling his friend, but he was sure LK would understand when he was miles away from the military and surrounded by beautiful women. He held out his hand for LK-486 to shake. LK shook Aph's hand firmly, and the deal was sealed.

"Be ready by next week LK!" Aph cheered. "We're going spaceside!"

(OOC:  Sayah, don't spam on this topic-it's a story and your post only hurt the flow.  Don't post anything else having to do with the matter.  Comments about the writing are appreciated, but useless posts aren't.)

A reconnaissance mission?  How original.  I'm surprised he didn't buy it.  Guess that's what happens when you are always thirsty for battle.  Aphamos finished his drink, placing his glass on the table and heading back to the barracks.  LK had already decided to go back to the barracks to get his equipment ready, for they were leaving the next morning.  Better tell him to wear some normal clothing and not his uniform.  Aphamos placed some credits on the table and stood up, pulling out his datapad and filling in a message for LK.

Wear leisure clothing tomorrow-no one is supposed to know we are there.  Bring a gun with you, but nothing too big or revealing.  I'll see you at the hanger in the morning at seven sharp.  Rest well.  Aphamos sent his message as he left the cantina and headed to the parking zone for his ride back.

----------------

Aphamos dropped his datapad onto the table and fell onto his bed, not bothering to turn off the light.  He reached down and took off his boots, throwing them in the corner off the room, right next to the closet door.  He moved the covers over as an odd feeling went through his stomach.  He paused for a moment, feeling a bit uneasy.  Looking over to the door of the room, a sense of paranoia went through his head.  He slowly made his way to his feet and walked over to his closet, opening it shoving the clothes to the side.  Finally seeing a glint of silver, he placed his hand in the clothes and felt around for a handle.

Aphamos pulled the steel case out of the closet and threw it on the bed, kneeling down and placing his hands on the bed and he shook his head.  He took a deep breath and opened the box, not taking time to look at the contents of the box.  He took out one of his slug thrower pistols and twisted the silencer on it, placing it on the pillow next to his.  Tossing the box back into the closet, he went under the covers, closing his eyes and entering another world where his problems became only imagination.

----------------

Aphamos ran down the halls, his breakfast held in his mouth and his bag barely hanging on to his shoulder.  Crap I'm not going to make it on time.  Crap, crap, crap.  He decided that the only way he would make it is not by running, but by sprinting.  Aphamos quickly chewed up and swallowed his breakfast, securing his bag and pumping his legs faster, changing his pace to a sprint.  Alright, where the hell is the damn hanger?  Better off guessing-at this rate I may not even get there.

Aphamos finally arrived at the hanger, seeing LK about to board a large, luxury ship.  He ran to the ship, arriving just before the doors were going to shut.  He searched the interior of the ship, spotting LK.  Aphamos walked toward his friend with a smile, thinking about how fun this vacation would be.

Deep inside of him though, he knew that there was no such thing as "vacation" in the Empire.

LK strode down a hallway covered in a gold and red carpet. The hallway was lined with wooden doors. Seemingly floating in mid-air were spheres of glass, in which a warm light glowed. LK was reminded of ancient, archaic techniques of artificial lighting. The whole scene seemed unreal. Trooper 486 was used to the gunmetal gray spick-and-spanness of Imperial installations. He remained alert as he continued to walk and count the doorways. Aphamos was right behind him.

Five, six, seven... LK-486 thought to himself. In front of the eighth door, he stopped. He turned to face the door to his left. He eyed the small datapad on the wall, analyzing it.

Aphamos groaned. "Hurry up, 486!" Aphamos paused. "Hey, LK...what's your real name, anyway? Isn't LK-486 just a designation code?"

LK shook his head. "I am one with the Empire, Aphamos. I need no other name." He quickly punched in the four-digit code, and the door slid open, revealing a smallish, comfortable room.

Aphamos gleefully pushed passed LK and flung his luggage onto the bed on the left. Like the hallway outside, the bed was decked in a gold and red spread. The carpet had turned into a dark shade of maroon that eventually gave way to the yellow tile of a small refreshing station, where a sink was placed next to a wall. Opposite of the sink was another wooden door that presumably lead to the bathroom.

LK placed his luggage on the second bed, opened his suitcase, and took off his red shirt. Inside were a few changes of clothes, and a holster. He put the holster on, and patted the Q2s5 blaster pistol it contained. The black pistol was streaked with gray from years of wear and tear, but LK had kept his first weapon in good condition. He selected the red shirt again, and replaced it upon his body. The shirt was large enough to conceal the blaster comfortably. Satisfied, he turned to face his companion.

Aph was also dressing himself with protection in mind; he likewise patted his firearm and winked at LK. Aph then cast his gaze on the clothes strewn about on both beds. He sighed and made a great show of rolling his eyes.

"We can clean up later, LK! Let's go have some fun!" He flashed a smile.

"I thought we were supposed to be on duty." LK-486 stated.

Aphamos rolled his eyes again. Getting 486 to cut up would be harder than he imagined. "We have to blend in, trooper! We're still undercover, remember?" 486 nodded. Aphamos shrugged and opened the door. As the two exited the room, the door slid back into place with a satisfying "woosh" and locked itself. Aph nodded, and the two proceeded down the hallway once more.

LK-486 turned to his friend. "I am hungry, Aph," he stated. "Let us go to the restaurant and order a decent breakfast for ourselves. I still have money saved up from my last paycheck." Aphamos nodded, remembering that he had only gobbled down some toast earlier that morning.

Upon arrival to the restaurant, the pair was greeted by a small, round faced Sullustian. 486 nodded approvingly as the Sullustian bustled towards them.

"We are incredibly sorry, good sirs, but the restaurant is closed for the moment. Do try again in an hour or so, when we've exited the atmosphere."

486 nodded. Aphamos shrugged. "So, LK, what should we do until then...?"
