Well, I guess I can also say why each of you received what you did.
Zippy received his medal for constant and active service in Eclipse Squad. He has always been at the ready with a post in the story and encouragement for others to post, when he has been unable.
Ion received his promotion for his activity in Eclipse as well. And it's been awhile since he's gotten one. 
KayNine received a promo for the characterization of her character. She stands to be different from the rest of the squad, warning us away from being too boring and conformist.

Anival, you pose a really great question. A lot of the squad is unable to get on the IRC at certain times because of work and college and all that fun stuff. Now, while IRC is probably the best way to trade info and story ideas, we mostly use the squad net.
I would love for everyone to hop on the IRC whenever they can for the various squad needs, just as a check-up or whatever, but I don't feel the need is great enough to make IRC meetings mandatory at this time.
