The Devaron Campaign.

All squads to participate in this interactive campaign which should last for the next few months.

Story: Full story to be posted on storynet under HQ location thread.
Devaron has agreed to become a part of the Vast Empire, due to the New Republic rejecting their applications for entry on the grounds that they still carry out brutal executions.
However, there were still those who remembered what happened the last time Devish forces came under Imperial control. What had been the simple removal of the local New Republic garrison became an attempt to control a full rebellion and the joint imperial-devaron army was stretched.
Acting as an aid to Devaron officials Captain Raziel requested stormtrooper back up. Before it could arrive, a New Republic fleet did and began landing troops.
The Devaronian army of loyalists was quickly forced back to Montellian Serat.
Before victory was complete a force of star destroyers arrived and the Republic fleet was engaged.
Whilst the battle still rages in space only one ship managed to maneuver through the blockade. The Dominion.
Pheonix company is one of those deposited at New Serat fortress. They must be quickly mobilized and transported by LAAT to try and stop the advancing rebellion.

Background info: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Devaron

Rules: Each time period (1 week upwards) each squad will be assigned a secondary mission to complete. This they must do sticking to guidelines as closely as possible, but where freedom is given, using any means possible.
When the mission is complete they will be assessed based on the quantity and quality of writing, (quality has more weighting however) the way in which they completed the mission and generally how interesting the story was.

The squad will be assigned a grade (S, S-. S+) based on this and I will then write in what happens in the primary mission.

The grading will also be based on how well a squad has performed in previous missions, so if you perform exceptionally on the first one, you will be expected to keep it it, but you will not be affected too much if you are short on members.

Bear in mind the primary missions will be kept a secret as will your grade. Also an S+ grade might not always correspond to a successful primary mission. It might be pre-decided that it will not succeed and your grade might simply determine by how much the primary mission is failred.

Example
Republic troops have launched an aquatic assault on the docks. The first wave has overcome the defence and are about to commence landing troops.
Squad A is assigned the Secondary mission of retaking the dock from the republic troops which they do. If they get:

S-: They destroy the republic force, but too late to stop the landing of a larger republic force.
S: They destroy the republic force, and the New Replublic fleet retreats from the coast
S+: They destroy the republic force, and manage to reach the dockyards defensive guns. They are able to destroy a number of republic transports as they retreat

Forces
Allied: Imperial loyalists, formed of Devaron army wearing purple trim and Imperial regular force wearing grey. Small groups of stormtroopers acting individually are present.

Enemy: Devaronian rebellion, they have decided on red as the colour of rebellion. They are poorly armed and the real strength of the enemy lies in the New Republic force. This comprises of Republic marines, trained for environments like devaron and clad in dark green. These men are excellent rifle troopers, even if they lack the discipline and training of stormtroopers. Also present are New Republic special forces. These are black clad troops known to be operating in groups of nine around Devaron. Armed with repeating carbines, their training is more than equal to that of stormtroopers.

The first missions will be coming soon. The topic posted by Evani is essential an FAQ which should be referred to before asking me questions.

Dark Dragoons have chosen number 3 and have received: Air Strike

choice of:
Laser guided bombardment
Carpet bombing
Anti-Armour run.

These one use "Cards" can be used once per campaign. The use of which at a correct time can earn you a higher mark on the current mission, as well as being fun.

Kairo has chosen number 1 for Jester and recieved Artillery strike:
You may choose one(or a combination of 2 in short order) of the following:

Flares
Smoke screen
Heavy Artillery (Buildings and vehicles)
Plasma bombing (Infantry)

To use one of these single use cards the Squad leader must explain in the story that he has called back to Raziel at HQ and requested the assistance. He should then Email or PM me.
The squad must NOT write about the effects of the special use card. They can either carry on writing as if they are waiting for the card to come in to affect or they can wait, either way i will personally describe the effect on the location thread.

Example
Squad A calls for artillery strike as they retreat from the enemy. SL posts about calling for artillery and ordering the retreat and then emails Raziel.
ASL then writes about the squad retreating, but does NOT mention the artillery.
Raziel then writes about the artillery landing and halting the enemies pursuit.

Darr has chosen number 2: Assassination.

Upon requesting assistance, either;
A nearby sniper unit will be  sent to your target or
An agent within the enemies ranks will be activated.

Use this when you feel damaging enemy command structure will aid you most.

Campaign will start monday!!!

That leaves Wraith with 4: Backup and Redeployment.

Upon request a force from our Stormtrooper reserve platoons will be sent via LAAT to your location. They can cover a retreat, assist in an attack or cause a distraction. The air force of LAAT's can also transfer you and the Stormtrooper squads to another location.

Exact size and make up of backup will be chosen based on need of reinforcements.

I imagine Raziel is getting all this info together. He is aware of the mis-start but from talking to him the other day he seems to just be ironing some details out. I imagine your map locations, mission op orders and so on will originate from him over the next few days.

I would like to see you all get as motivated for this as you can. I know the slow start is frustrating but use the time to find out what your troops need. This is a bit different from our usual stories but I want everyone to know their role as best as possible.

I'm eager to see how this goes.

Good luck with it.

I do REALLY apologise to everyone for this slow start!
Things havent gone quite to plan for me this week, I've only had five minute spells on the pc or so. (Fiancee has a big project due in soon and has taken the week off to get it done)
Most of the stuff is down on paper and will be written up tomorrow morning (UK time) so should be ready for the morning.

One again so sorry.

Just to help you work out where you are on the above map.
Dark dragoons are along that whole stretch of river, Raiders and Jester are in Montellian Serat and Wraith will be moving along a path.
I'll get things finished up soon sorry all.

Missions

Wraith: Convoy Raid

You will be dropped off by LAAT at Mantera port. From here a team of Devaronian scouts will take you across the estuaries east on Montellian Serat though the night. You will move both on foot through the marshland and by inflatable boat. The scouts should have a path which should avoid enemy attention. Rebellion troops are spread fairly thin on the opposite bank so getting through into enemy territory shouldn't be a problem.

When we retreated from the north side of the river we left some supply cache's for future use by Special Forces squads. You will be going to the largest of these and collecting two Arrow-23 Tramp Shuttles and some explosives. The kit is buried under some rock formations and is well hidden so a single Devaronian scout will accompany you to its location.

Aerial Recon suggests a large convoy of supplies is moving south west towards Montellian Serat. It's a Devish rebellion convoy, not a New Republic one, so it's believed to be nearly unarmed.

Your mission is to ambush one of these convoys using the shuttles and the use explosives to destroy the supplies.

The charges will likely cause a large amount of smoke, and New Republic marines are likely to be redeployed to try and save the convoy. These forces must be avoided. Return to the location of the cache, hide the gear, form an observation post and await further orders.

Equipment: Standard Special Forces gear, supplemented by equipment in hidden cache. Incendiary charges to destroy supplies
Hostiles engaged: Likely Devaronian Rebels, either old veteran soldiers or under age enthusiasts. May be armed with repeating rifles, but probably nothing heavier.

Arrow-23's uses one laser cannon and concussion grenade launcher(The second shuttle has the concussion grenade launcher replaced  by haywire grenades which may be effective against vehicles) "Tramp shuttle" is a Rebel term for any landspeeder that has been modified to serve as a light combat transport.

Ending: A few days to do prep on day 1, a few days for the crossing during night 1. The majority of time spend on raid during day 2. Back at cache by 30/04 at evening of day 2 (This puts you 12 hours further into future that others)

Jester and Raiders: Hold the line.

You will be sent to Montellian Serat with some regular Imperial forces to try and supplement the cities defences. The next wave of Rebellion troops is gather just outside of mortar range and is expected to assault soon. A larger wave of troops is gathering further away so we believe that this attack will be used to probe out any weaknesses in the defences do not show them any.

Old Serat only has a ten foot wall on the north side and it will not stand up to much, however the government has a pact with the rebellion to try and leave the major cities in tact so the enemy will have to be very careful with any heavy weapons. Either they will plant charges or ram the wall. This is to our advantage as when the wall is breached the will have to clear us out one building at a time. Most of the buildings on the north side of the river are ten stories tall or more, compromising of high rise accommodation to the west and business buildings to the east. It may be possible to use these to help in holding the wall.

Equipment: As required, loyalist forces in the city are well equipped and it is all at your disposal. You will be shipped out with Imperial mortars, E-web's, T-21's and PLX missile launchers. The loyalists are also using their own form of weapons platforms. These are heavy laser cannons mounted on a repulsor platform and manned by two people.
Hostiles Engaged: A mix of Devaronian Rebels, Republic marines and light vehicles. (The Republic has yet to deploy any large armour units) Expect Republic infantry to either be mounted on speeders or using portable riot shields (akin to what the gungans used in EPI)
Allies: The main force of the Devaronian Army, supplemented by Imperial regular forces and the odd squad of stormtroopers

Ending: Probing attack will continue untill i say so. At 21/04 consider that you are entering the night. Estimate ~24/04 ending

Dark Dragoons Mission: River Patrol

Intel suggests that the New Republic Special forces will attempt the cross the marshlands west of old Serat during the night. You will be sent to the river north west of Montellian Serat and deployed on a pair DB-7 patrol boats and will assist with Devaronian forces in attempting to stop as many of them from crossing as possible.

Do not stray too close to the northern bank as you may come under fire from missile emplacements. A previous attempt by a single special forces team was stopped and the details have been studied since. It seems they are using two methods to cross the rivers.

The first is a design we have not seen before. What appears to be a flat, black piece of metal, six-by-twelve feet in size is in fact a very compact repulsor sled. Teams of four men along with some equipment lie flat on the sled making them very difficult to spot visually or with sensors. Whilst our technicians are still working on some form of graviton sensor to detect these sleds you will simply have to use concentrated observation.

The second method is aquatic troopers swimming underneath the surface and then crawling across intervening marshland. The suits they are using make them almost impossible to detect by our usual sensors, so we have had to rig the patrol boats with archaic sonar detectors.

Equipment: DB-7 patrol boats (similar size to http://brownwater-navy.com/vietnam/photos2/PCFops1.jpg) These are equipped with a heavy repeater-grenade launcher combi on the deck. And also on the underside is a personal bubble loaded with a repeating harpoon gun. (Imagine the bubbles on the side of LAAT's underwater) The patrol boat has sonar for picking up aquatic troopers, but Special Forces on the surface will need to be spotted using the big IR flood light and goggles.
Hostiles Engaged: Republic Special Forces armed with a variety of weapons. They are few in numbers but very highly trained. Whilst those spotted on the surface will be easier to dispatch, the aquatic troopers will be easier to detect, but a lot more dangerous.

Ending: Prep for a few days real time (during day 1 of campaign time) Spec force will attemt to cross during night 1 untill 24/04

State of play. Day2 Mid Afternoon.

The Republic Force has shown no sign of restarting its attacks on the walls of Old Serat, giving the Devaronian army time to breath. The probing force was repelled with such force that they have decided to await further reinforcements and to try and reorganise.

However two things worry us. Whilst the Devish rebels lost a large supply of ammunition the New Republic was relatively unphased by Wraith squads attack on the convoy and hasn't even paused the running of its supply lines as was hoped. Instead it has begun actively hunted our special operations squads. Also the attack highlighted a problem with untrustworthy Devaronian officers and it has been decided that it is time to do something about that.

Orbital and aerial recon, along with direct sightings tells us that a few squads of Republic Special Forces managed to cross the river during the night. Although it is believed that most were captured or killed.

Unfortunately the communications equipment in the mountains behind New Serat seems to have suffered some damage, this is possibly by sabotage. We have lost contact with satellites that had been monitoring the Republic Navy off the east coast. Now we have received reports that the fleet is moving on Mantera Port and could be within artillery range at any moment.

Summary:

Wraiths: Didn't take timescale into consideration. Started well, but poor ending.

Raiders and Jester: Keep it up.

Dark Dragoons: Started well, some good writing. Got disorganised at the end and poor use of Air Strike card.

In Future squads MUST email or PM me if they are using their one use cards

Missions

Dark Dragoons: Surprise attack.

The Republic and Devaronian Rebel forces are stationed five miles north of Old Serat. Some of the Devaronian commanders believe that they have left behind an inadequate skirmishing force. They plan to move forward some mobile artillery platforms and mortars and try and create some havoc at the enemy encampment.

Enter the city via the river from the west, rearm then leave vie the northern wall. Move forwards to within visual range of the enemy encampment, supported by Imperial regular forces, sweep aside any Devaronian Rebel/Republic skirmishers left behind. Enemy communications have been scrambled temporarily by orbital weapons, so you must be fast as they will anticipate something.

Do not post about allied artillery! They will be out of sight far behind you

Equipment: 74-Z Speeder Bike's, macrobinoculars and standard load out. Headgear has been modified to cut through comm interference.
Hostiles engaged: Mix of Devaronian scouts and Republic scouts. They will be on alert after losing comms. Careful getting close to panicked Devaronians (They get bitey!)

Timescale: Artillery strike planned for after dark to cause maximum effect. End of forwards movement 03/05. Again do not post about the artillery strike!!

Raiders: Seatrooper raid.

The Republic Navy has moved to within striking distance of the coast. At 16:00 hours they began exchanging fire with Mantera Port's guns. Atmospheric fighters have also been sent out to attack.

You will leave Old Serat by the south and travel by land speeder to Mantera Port, where your aquatic gear is waiting. As soon as night falls you will leave the port. Your mission is to place explosives on the small anti-air craft boats that are surrounding the main Republic landing fleet. Devaronian divers have already checked and the air is free from mines. However the Republic fleet has yet to deploy any aquatic troopers/droids of their own so be careful!

Equipment: Aquatic armoured trooper hear including blaster rifle/speargun hybrid.
Hostiles engaged: ?

Timescale: Mission will be done after nightfall. End of mission 03/05

Jesters/Nightstalkers: Mountain hopping.

High in the slopes above New Serat Republic droids have been attacking our communications installations, previously though safe from attack. You will be sent via jetpack, high into the slopes to route them out!

Jester will be brought back to New Serat by LAAT where they will meet up with the newly arrived Nightstalkers. We want you up in the mountains and done before dark, so you will be despatched ASAP. The outposts are located towards the summits of the two highest peaks, so you will be sent to these. Whether you take one at a time, or split is up to you.

Equipment: Jetpacks and high altitude gear. Option for EMP weapons as well as standard blasters.
Hostiles engaged: Two types of droid spotted. Although reports from remote camera's are sketchy. The first is akin to the Probot, seen individually looking for installations. The second, seen in packs is some form of six-legged spider droid. The body of this droid appears to house one main blaster gun, as well as smaller arms, possibly specifically designed for dismantling equipment. They appear roughly man-sized from the small clips of sightings. Do not post about the current state of installations, this is important

Timescale: Mission to be finished by night fall. End of mission 03/05

Wraiths: Headhunt.

The activity of Rebellious Devaronians within the Loyalist ranks worries us. Fortunately the Devaronian secret police has provided a list of traitors who must be dealt with.

However to say this is a delicate issue is a gross understatement. Imperial soldiers cannot be seen to arrest interrogate important Devaronian officers at will. We have worked hard to gain the trust of the Devish, many of them remember the atrocities committed when their army was placed under Imperial control last time.

You will be move at least 3km from your current location before being airlifted out; we do not want the enemy to discover the weapons cache. When you reach Old Serat you will meet up with a taskforce of trusted Devaronians.

Your mission is to wait until nightfall and then move through the city with the taskforce arresting our suspects. There must NOT be a bloodbath, or you will do more damage than good. The taskforce will translate for you and be under your direct control, but it would be best if it appear that you are simply assisting them.

Some of the officers will have bodyguards who are not willing to simply surrender their charge, whilst we expect weapons may be drawn and tense situations will occur, do not open fire unless forced.

Equipment: Standard. Weapons set to stun.

Targets:

Varshal'Mansh: A male sergeant within the Devaronian Army. He will be found near the walls. Believed to be leaking information to Devish Rebels. Will likely be the easiest target, try and take him with stealth and without causing a fuss. He will be arrested and interrogated.

Dandra'Fae: A female Bookkeeper in the Loyalist army. Will likely be near the centre of the city. It is believed she distributed the weapons and information that the Rebels used to take a section of the north wall from inside. Unfortunately she will be located near civilian media reporters, so this must be handled extremely tactfully! She will be arrested and interrogated.

Hashtra'Sai'Malloc: A well respected Male captain in the loyalist army. Has seen action many times over the last years and his men are extremely loyal. However he has become more and more vocal in his sympathies for the Devish rebellion recently and an inside man has reported that he is planning action against the government and has already swayed his closest men. This will be the toughest challenge, go in guns blazing and you will be shot down, there is no way of getting to him by stealth. Instead you're going to have to convince his men to let you take him away. He will be executed at Justice field publicly as a message to the people.

Jason Zhane: The Devaronian army currently has a large force of human mercenaries on hire, who were brought in at the start of the rebellion; they are currently holding the far western edge of the wall. Jason Zhane is the second in command of this group and has been caught communicating with Devish rebels. Whilst the mercenary's leader (John Barnes) is loyal to us and has even worked with imperial forces before, we believe Jason may attempt to fake an assassination against the group's leader and stage a coupe and turn the mercenary force against us. We only care for the Devaronians loyalty and for this reason you are to execute Jason on sight. Leave the Devish taskforce behind for this task, sneak into the mercenary camp and execute. The mercenaries are our allies so will likely not even act if you are spotted moving through their camp.

Timescale: Mission to be finished by night fall. End of mission 07/05

(This is the most mature mission I have given out yet, and as such I expect the writing to show that you appreciate that)

If anyone wants advice on what i am looking for when marking your missions email me!

To clarify a point on the Blue mountain story:

I dont mind you writing about the exterior of the installations in detail, or even about some mild damage etc I just dont want anyone writing specifically about how functional the installations are.

Ok sorry just to clarify Dark Dragoons Mission.

You will not be attacking the enemy encampment, what i'm referring to here is the whole if the New Republic/Devaronian Rebel army.
You just need to clear a path for the mobile artillery and do a visual check on the Republic/Devaronian Rebel army.

Also for everyone to clarify some language i use:

Rebel/Rebellion I'm not talking about the galaxy wide rebellion. I'm talking about the local rebellion here on Devaron.
Rebel = Devaron soldier
Republic trooper = human solider
Loyalist = Devaron soldier.

The force in Old Serat is about 50/40 split between Devaronian army and imperial regular soldiers. Only the last 10% in Stormtroopers.

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music." Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989.

"Who are you to tell God what to do with his dice?" - Bohr
"God does not play dice with the universe.
