Ok, my pc is a turd. I used to have a nice one many years back and now i just dont have the money, however i would like (if possible) to be able to run some of the newer games  (Mainly Battlefront II, Dawn of War and a couple of others)
what i currently have is an Athlon XP 1800+ running at 1.5Ghz, i also realised that for some reason this pc has slots for SD and DDR ram and currently only has SD in it, so i'll replace that first.
The worst bit: Geforce MX 440.
What i'd like is advice on an appropriate GFX card. Something good enough to stretch the life of this awful pc a little longer, but not so fast that the rest of the PC is holding it back?

sooo..... you want something good, but not too good that might be consider as an overkill ?

i used to live a good life using ATI 9200 (cheap:aliengray .
update the smartshader to v2. and you are good to go....
haven't test it with Quake 4 tho.....
and it ran choppy with HL2
ps : there's no such thing as wrong when adding another 10gigs of RAM  |

Yeah i need more RAM for my simulations anyways
Savastore has an offer for a Radeon 9600 XT 256MB for only £67, which doesnt look bad

Replaced my 512mb SD ram with 2Gb of DDR Ram, getting an external HDD and formatting the PC and installing a Geforce Ti 4600 a mate has, if that isnt fast enough i'm not sure whether to bother buying anything or wait to get a new PC.
This motherboard only does PC2100 DDR Ram and AGP 4x, so i think i might leave it at that for now. -----------------------

I've got a GeForce FX 5600, not top of the line anymore but still a very nice card. I think it requiers 8x AGP though. You've reminded me, I keep meaning to buy a new stick of RAM for my box, need to do that... -----------------------
