What's the difference between the 8-sided imperial sign (ones on official SW) and the 6-sided (the ones we normally see)? -----------------------

What do you mean by "eight-sided" and "six-sided"? If you mean eight spokes and six spokes, well, the Grand Army of the Republic used the six-spoked one as its symbol toward the end of the Clone Wars, and, apparently, Palpatine just took the logo with him to show that the Empire was in fact different from the Republic, since the Republic used the eight-spoked one. -----------------------

Yea that's what i meant, but your explanation wasn't very clear, the REpublic used both 6 and 8 spokes? -----------------------
