Jack Nebulax's Story

As most of you Navy members know, I tied in an adventure about my friend-turned-bounty hunter and how he wants revenge for my actions and heroics in Chapter 8 of the Navy. Well now you can read about my life before the Navy and how my life led up to the decision to join the Vast Empire. I'll start the story tomorrow, and expect a new part every week.

Jack Nebulax woke early that day aboard the ISD-II Nebulax's Fist in his cabin. Since his dad was in charge of the Auroran Defense Fleet, Jack practically lived in space, even though he had a house on the ground.
"Why do I have such a bad feeling?" Jack said as he got dressed and headed for the mess hall.
Along the way, he bumped into his squadron mates. He was in charge of Wing I of the ADF, with his brother, Jake, in charge of Wing II.
He sat down to eat with his brother. "Rough night?" Jake asked.
"Yeah," Jack replied. "I have such a bad feeling."
"About what?"
"I don't know," came the response. "I just felt that way all night."
"Oh, I see," his brother replied. "Hey," he began, "guess what."
"What?" Jack asked.
"I got accepted into the Space Academy!"
"Oh, Jake," Jack began, "who's going to lead Wing II?"
"I was going to ask you to. In-between periods and on breaks I'll lead Wing II like usual. I just need a little advice about the Space Academy," Jake said.
Jack knew he would hear this. He'd been to the Space Academy already and passed with honors. "Okay, little bro," Jack said, "I'll help you out." Then they both left the mess hall for Jake's private room, which was across from Jack's.

"So, Jake," Jack concluded, "did you learn everything you needed to know?"
"Yep. Thanks, bro, I owe you one."
"Any time, Jake. Any time," Jack said with a smile on his face.
Suddenly, an officer came rushing into the room. "Sirs," he began with a salute as he talked frantically, "you're both wanted on the bridge. A Rebel taskforce has entered the system!"
"Lieutenant," Jack began, "get back to your station now. We'll take care of this, right Jake?"
"Sure thing, Jack," Jake responded.
"Alright, sirs," the lieutenant replied as he rushed back for the bridge.
"What will we do?" Jake asked.
"We fight, little bro," Jack said to Jake as he picked up his comlink. He spoke into it. "Wings One and Two, prepare for battle. We've got one Rebel taskforce on the way and many easy ways to destroy it."

Jack and Jake rushed down to the fighter hanger bay where the rest of the pilots were.
"Okay, guys," Jack began, "we don't have a lot of time, so I'm going to brief both wings. Here's the deal - Wing Two will cover Wing One while the pilots of my Wing One fly for the enemy command ship. Once we've knocked that out, we'll take care of the remaining fighters."
"Nice plan, bro. Okay guys, you heard 'em. Let's lock and load," Jake said as he jumped in his TIE Defender. Each wing was made up of six different TIE fighters - one type for each squadron.
Jack jumped in his TIE Defender and started his callsign check. "This is Nemesis Leader. Quick callsign check."
"Nova Leader and Nova Squadron, standing by," Dac Valdre said.
"Nebula Leader and Nebula Squadron, standing by," Jake Far'shadow said.
"Specter Leader and Specter Squadron, standing by," Ta'karus Zebulon said.
"Star Leader and Star Squadron, standing by," Jack Stone announced.
"Comet Leader and Comet Squadron standing by," came the final squadron commander's voice, the voice of Alkon Gauion.
Jack made one last check to make sure all of Wing II reported in. Then they got the signal from Zaxdis Nebulax, Jack and Jake's father. "All fighters... launch!"

"Okay, boys," Jack began, "let's rock." The two wings of fighters launched out of the docking bay like flies around a dead body. They were met by five squadrons made up of X-Wings and Y-Wings.
"We're entering a heavy fire zone," Jake said. "Shields up at full power."
Despite them flying TIE fighters, they still had shields. Jack and Ta'karus, who were both five or six years older than Jake, had helped Jack and Jake's father with the shield project while Jack's stepmother, Varia, had nursed Jake as a baby.
As Wing I headed for the main ship, which was a MC-40 Mon Calamari Starcruiser, as Jack identified it, a pair of Y-Wings came up behind Jack and Dac Valdre. Laser blasts started aiming for Jack and Dac. One by one, they fired.
"I'm hit!" Dac cried out. "Loosing pow.....ife suppo....lecto...shiel....out...f contr...." was all Jack heard. He covered Dac as he limped back to the Star Destroyer.
Meanwhile, Jack Stone and Alkon Gauion dove for the command bridge of the MC-40. "Stay on target..." Alkon said.
"Watch out you two," a voice said. "Turbolaser fire near the bridge..." was all he could say before a well-placed proton torpedo detonated his TIE Interceptor. Two minutes later, Alkon's TIE Bomber was hit by turbolaser fire. He slowly spun out-of-control into the bridge of a Rebel CR-90 Corellian Corvette. The two ships exploded in a brilliant flash of light.
"A sacrifice," Ta'karus said sorrowfully, "a sacrifice."
Suddenly, an X-Wing shot out from nowhere. It had locked on to Jake's TIE Defender. "JAKE!!" Jack screamed as he returned to the battle.
"I have you now," the X-Wing pilot said.
"Oh no you don't," a Nova Squadron pilot said. He shot off two wings and two engines of the enemy fighter. The ship slowly moved toward Zaxdis Nebulax's target....
"Increase all deflector shields!" the commander of the MC-40 yelled. "Increase all deflector shields-"
"Too late!" a lieutenant yelled over the voices as he pointed to an X-Wing flying toward the bridge. It hit the bridge dead-on.
"I repeat to Wings One and Two," the voice of Zaxdis Nebulax said, "Target has been eliminated. Return at once. I have some awards and promotions to be handed out."

"Guys, I'm very impressed," Jack began after his father handed out all of the awards and promotions. "Okay now, we have a few men in the medlab, but the doc over there says they'll be fine."
"That's a relief," Ta'karus said. "Any news on Dac?"
"Last I heard," a fellow Specter Squadron pilot said, "he's been put in a bacta tank. Poor guy's stayin' in there for a week."
"Okay men, save your sorrows," Jake began. "We won. We had a few losses, but at least the ship's intact and we're all right."
"My little bro has a point," Jack said. "Back to your quarters now. Dismissed."
Jack had taken a long walk to the bridge. At heart he was disobeying what Jake had said - save your sorrows. Jack saw every single explosion in the battle. Usually, he wasn't this soft. He was a strong military commander. But his best friend before Jake was born - his cousin, Lak O'flen - had been the first death in the battle. Finally, after what seemed to be a lifetime, he made it to the bridge.
"Rough day, son?" Jack's stepmom, Varia, asked.
"Yeah. Jake almost died, and a buch of good friend did die out there."
"Don't worry, Jack. I loved you even before I was your mom."
She had a point. Before she was his mom, she was his aunt. At least she understood everything about him better than someone from outside the family.
Suddenly, the closed bridge doors flew open. Jack's dad steped in with Jake at his side. "We've got more company," he said.

"How can they have been undetected this entire time?" Varia asked her husband.
"They were on the far side of Aurora Prime-" Jack's dad tried to begin.
"I don't care where they were! We have sensor arrays on the far side."
"Guys, I have a suggestion," Jack broke in.
"I'm listening, son," Zaxdis began.
"They could've exited hyperspace with the other taskforce and during the battle they reprogramed the sensor," Jack suggested.
"Good point Jack," Varia said.
"Yes it was. Anyway, Jack, we need to assemble the squadrons. Where's Jake?" Jack's dad asked.
"I signaled him. We have a comlink button that we use to alert each other to prepare for attack."
"Nice idea," Zaxdis said. Then he switched to ship broadcast. "All men to your posts. Battle stations!" He then switched that off. "Again," he muttered.

Jack rushed down to the docking bay in a flash. "Man," he began, "the Rebel Alliance is really pushing me today."
Jack eyed the rest of Wings I and II. Surprisingly, Dac was among his men again.
"Hey, Jack!" he yelled. "They let me fight! Doesn't that rock?"
"Sorry, Dac, not this time," Jack said. "I don't want you injured any more than you already are."
"Come on, Jack," he almost pleaded. "My life is fighting out there with you guys."
"Well right now, you'll be able to fight to avoid getting wounded anymore," Jack snapped back.
"I have the right to be out there Jack!"
"I'm not listening to you anymore," Jack said. "Wings One and Two, let's go kick some Rebel ass."
"Right behind you, boss," Ta'karus said.
"Yep, that's my brother for ya," Jake said.
"Okay, here's a quick briefing - destroy all of those fighters and destroy all of those ships. After we've done that, we'll slingshot around Aurora and fix the sensor beacons. Got it?" Jack asked.
"Yep, got it," they all agreed.
Everyone except Dac that is. Dac was left there to watch the battle. But wait - he could still help! He could go fix those beacons by himself! He'd get all of the credit for that!
"Hey you, mechanic!" Dac yelled as the fighters left.
"Yes, sir?" he asked unknowingly.
"Fix up my fighter. I've got a mission to do."
"Yes, sir. Right away," the mechanic said as he got to work.

"Okay guys," Jack yelled into his comlink, "watch out for enemy fire. They now have a MC-80a cruiser leading this."
"So, Jack," Ta'karus began, "where do we start?"
"I have an idea," Jake Nebulax began. "Let's fly in so close to the command ship that the Rebel fighters follow us. When the timing's right, they'll either fire at us and hit the command ship or they'll crash into it."
"Yeah, that might work," a pilot agreed. His voice was followed by many other pilots agreeing.
"Okay then," Jack began, "increase your speeds. We're going in."
Dac stood impatiently in the hangar by his fighter. "So how much longer?" he asked the mechanic.
"Just a sec.... okay, done," the mechanic said.
"Good. I'd better get going."
"Yes, sir. Good luck," he saluted.
"Luck will have nothing to do with it," he mumbled as he hopped into the TIE cockpit.

No offence Jack, but can you make your story posts a bit longer? cause its kind of hard to follow if its in little pieces. I rather like you to post once or twice a week with much to write than to post everyday with only little bits. -----------------------

The TIE fighter roared out of the docking bay. Dac looked on as the battle unfolded not far away. He made sure all systems were up at 100%, and then he prepared to slingshot around Aurora Prime to fix those sensor arrays.
When his sensors showed that the first satellite was up ahead, he slowed down the craft to dock with it. In order to reprogram it, he'd have to get out of the ship and do it.
"Well," he began, "there's no other way to do it." He then did a final check on his flightsuit and opened the access hatch. His body floated out into space as he aimed for the array with a grappling hook. He launched it, and successfully attached it.
Within three minutes, he was done with the first one. He had a lot of experience on this subject when his father taught him years ago. He could faintly see the outline of the next array as he headed back for the fighter.
"Pull up! Pull up!" Nebulax yelled to a squadron member. "You're headed straight for that turbolaser cannon!"
"I'm hit! I'm loosing power! Help, help! I repeat, I'm hit-" Suddenly the comm went dead. The fighter had hit the turbolaser battery and exploded.
Jack thought quickly. He needed backup. "Dad!" he yelled into his comm.
"Yes, son? Are you hurt?" came the reply.
"No, Dad. I need you to bring the destroyer's turbolasers and ion cannons online," Jack asked his father.
"Right away!" He gave the command to the men on the bridge, and suddenly the destroyer fired on the MC-80a.
Meanwhile, Dac had successfully reprogramed four sensor arrays and was headed for the last one when his ship was caught in a tractor beam. He struggled to look to all sides for the ship, but he could see nothing.
Then, something small came into view. It grew larger and larger. Dac realized the design as it grew. "What the hell," Dac said. "That's a Hutt cruiser!"

Dac, in his fighter, was struggling to break the Hutt cruiser's tractor beam lock. He fought and fought, but no luck. Once he was so close to the ship, a set of cargo doors opened up, and Dac and his ship were sucked inside.
Meanwhile, back at the battle, Nebulax and his fighter groups were pounding away at the smaller cruisers while the Star Destroyer's turbolasers and ion cannons vaporized the hull of the MC-80a. With a final last struggle, the Mon Calamari MC-80a Star Cruiser limped to a hyperspace exit vector, before a final ion cannon blast blew the engines of the MC-80a off as they hurled into space. Escape pods fled the dying craft, only to be picked up by the Imperial Star Destroyer and Auroran bulk cruisers that had just entered.
"Way to go, guys!" Jack yelled over his comlink. "That's about the best fighting I've ever seen!"
"Thanks, boss," Jake Far'shadow said over his comlink. Then the voices of all the surviving pilots came over the comm with the same agreement.
"Okay, now part two: We have to reprogram those sensor arrays on the far side. Let's go," Jake Nebulax said.
"Right behind you, little bro," Jack said.
Meanwhile, back inside the hanger of the Hutt cruiser, Dac tried to stay hidden in the cockpit as a group of worker drones came over to the TIE and opened the cockpit hatch. "You," one of the mechanical voices said to Dac, "get out and follow us." Then Drone 1, as Dac registered it, looked over at Drone 2. "Inform Lord Tyhas the Hutt we've got someone."
Then the cruiser went into hyperspace.

"Good news," Jack picked.
"Okay," Ta'karus said, "they're all reprogramed."
"That was quick," Jake Nebulax chimmed in.
"Yeah, here's the strange news - four of the five were already back online. Which means someone was already out here," Ta'karus said.
"Who, then?" Jack Stone asked.
"I know," Jack Nebulax replied. "Come on, back to Nebulax's Fist. We'll debrief and talk about this later."

So as Wings I and II landed in the docking bay of the Nebulax's Fist, the squadron commanders came and rushed over to Jack.
"Great job, guys. I doubt that any more Rebel fleets will try to take Aurora Prime," Jack said.
"You got that right, bro!" Jake Nebulax screamed out.
"So, boss," Ta'karus began, "who reprogramed the sensor arrays on the far side?"
"Dac did."
"But I thought..." Jack Stone began.
"No," Jack said. "You, over there!" Jack yelled to a mechanic.
"Yes, sir?" he asked.
"Are you the one who serviced Dac Valdre's fighter?" Jack Nebulax asked.
"Why yes, sir. He told me that he was ordered to reprogram the arrays on the far side," the mechanic said.
"Did he come back?" Jake Nebulax asked for his older brother.
"No, sir," the mechanic said. "I thought he was with you."
Jack couldn't take it anymore. He was so furious that Dac obeyed his superior command. "Dac!!" he yelled out loud.
Everyone else swore the ship rocked back and forth.
Jack Nebulax walked slowly to the bridge. He was immeadatly gained enterance. He was so angry at Dac. Dac once was a good friend, up until the Battle of Aurora Prime which led to the birth of the ADF. Dac's father was a Rebel captain who was taking part in the siege, trying to get rid of all Imperial presence on the planet.
But Zaxdis Nebulax, an Imperial High Admiral, stood in his way.
The battle had lasted for a week. One side gained so much, and the other side lost so much. It would constatly go like that until Sauji Valdre, Dac's father, lost the most important thing to him - not the planet, but his son.
Dac eventually was found by his mother, who had decided to remain neutural. But a horrible mistake led the Rebels to capture her and kill her.
Upset with himself, Sauji Valdre fled the planet without his son. His Rebel taskforce entered hyperspace, never to re-emerge, believed to be destroyed in some natural supernova.
Dac wandered by himself, nevering knowing what really happened to his parents. He eventually joined the ADF and became close friends with the Nebulax brothers. But every so often, Dac Valdre would disobey a command, acting so much like his Rebel father.
Jack entered the bridge of his father's command ship. He had enough. He told his father what he had to do - find Dac Valdre and bring him back alive.
Jack couldn't put a friend in harm's way - even if it meant going to Tyhas the Hutt's dwelling on Nal Hutta.
