Just wanted to let everyone know that I have purchased yet another dedicated server for the VE. This one will be quite nice and we probably won't be moving again unless there are some problems with the hosting company. I checked out the hosting company and it sounds like they've done a better job with customer service than the one we have now so we should be ok there.
What you'll notice is an improvement in speed and the ability to handle more server load. Basically, here is the specs on the server in case you are wondering:
2 X AMD Athlon MP 2600 Processor
2GB Registered PC2100 Memory
2 X 80 GB Hard Drive (one for backup purposes)
This also includes updated server software which should also help. This will be a big improvement in what we are using now. From those that I have had test the new server, there were no complaints.
This will be happening sometime this week. What I'll do is lock down the old server so no more database updates can occur. Then I'll copy the databases over and start forwarding all requests to the new server. I'll provide links so everyone can get to where they need to go until all the domains transfer over to the new server. Once the domains have been transfered, I'll allow one week for everyone to get any email off of the old server (will also provide the IP address of the old server) before shutting it down.
I will try to get all the user data from the old server, but there may be cases where I won't be able to. So basically, if you've uploaded information to the old server, you may have to make sure you have a copy of that on your hard drive so you can upload it again to the new server.
I've transfered over all the main domain information as well as subdomains (will try to get all user subdomains) so don't make any more changes to the files on the old server as I won't get the updates. If you need to make any updates, I can provide you with the login information to the new server.
Guess that is all. I'll post another news message and something on the comnet when I know more about when I'll be able to start the full DNS transfer. This may happen in a few days.
