Imperial Ambush
All alone in space, Commander Freya, his squadron lost and his X-wing lossing fuel, sat
hopelessly in space. He would have jumped to hyperspace, had his hyperdrive not been damaged
in the past dogfight. So his only choice was to drift endlessly through space till his home carrier,
the Escort Carrier Salvation, arrived. If it did arrive.
At the start of the battle he radioed that the squadron was being attacked and was greatly
outnumbered. Before he engaged he requested reinforcements. The Empire’s TIE Defenders had
made short work of his squadron, but left a few of them dead and adrift, then retreated to
hyperspace. From the tatics of them, he figured the most be setting an ambush for the Salvation.
He wished he could radio them to warn them.
As he waited, Freya scanned space for any signs of the Salvation’s entry, or the Empire’s.
After a couple minutes of that, he decided to conserve his oxygen and rest until it’s arrival. Just as
closed his eyes, his R2 unit, Dagger, whistled and beeped out in alarm. Quickly he took up his
visual scan again and saw what the fuss was about, the Salvation had arrived. It was a couple
kilometers out, but closing fast.
Freya saw a couple squadrons launched from her haul, one X-wing and B-wing, he
guessed from their exit speeds and size. A couple more, larger craft, recovery vessels. The
X-wings ran point and swung back aroung to cover the perimeter, while the B-wings escorted the
revory vessels and guarded the Salvation.
That task was made a little more difficult due to the sudden return of the TIE Defenders.
This time, however, it came occupanied by an Interdictor and a Stike Cruiser. Freya was right, the
destruction of his squadron was just a follie, to lure the Salvation into a trap. It had succeded.
The Salvation scrambled all its fighter squadrons, an equal match to the number of TIE
Defenders now. However, the Interdictor and her escort scrambled all their fighters, three TIE
Bomber squadrons, with an escort of two TIE Interceptor squadrons, headed right for the
Salvation.
The Salvation’s five squadrons moved to intercept, but were doomed. The four Defender
squadrons wiped up the two B-wings before they could reach the bombers. Then the interceptors
moved in to threwt the remaining X-wings. That combined with the defenders finished them off
easy. Now the Salvation was doomed. Freya watched the action from inside his cockpit.
After the battle, an Imperial tow hauled him into the hanger bays of the Strike Cruiser. He
found that he and and his first leutinant were the only pilots left of his squadron. He soon realized
that that was only temporary, and he would join his squadronmates in death
