The battle of Absit may have ended but its full ramifications were still to be discovered by all those involved. Sure the Vast Empire managed to protect the Nusiuu Docks and in so doing earn both a great deal of favor with the locals as well as weaken both the New Republic and more importantly still, the Corellian League. Sure they suffered a few casualties in the process but overall they gained a whole lot more than they lost.
Perhaps one of the most important consequences of that particular battle was a change in leadership at the very highest levels of the Naval High Command. For successfully bringing about victory to the glory of the Vast Empire, Commodore Wyl Trichon was rewarded not only with the rank of Read Admiral but also with the role of Chief of Naval Operations - in other words second in command of the entire Navy...
The position of Chief of Naval Warfare however could not be left unattended though and so in stepped the
Blue Eyed Snake, the man that until only recently hid his true identity behind an ever shifting mask. Likewise promoted and offered a new ship as a token of his new status, the latter wasted little time in ordering preparations for departure towards an even sweeter target, the Corellian League's very own homeworld - Corellia.
Although the Corellian League was taken by surprise at Absit and consequently managed to lose a fairly large number of its ships and experienced personnel, odds were good that they would not waste time either. Odds were very good that they would use the opportunity to fortify their defenses and make the inevitable next battle a whole lot harder, quite possibly the hardest one that the Vast Empire had taken part in recent history...
At the very least the Corellians would need to spend some more time recruiting and training new fighter jocks in order to replace the losses they sustained at Absit. Although the legendary Corellian aces put up a wonderful fight whilst trying to take over the Nusiuu Docks, they were ultimately defeated by the Vast Empire's own Starfighter elite, of which
Vornskr Squadron Commander and
Blade Wing Commander Seth Qorbin in particular managed to stand out and make quite the impression, both during the fighting through his use of tactics and leadership as well as afterward, when the confirmed kill counts were revealed by the military analysts.
"Astounding", his former captain, Dracule Mihawk, remarked during his debriefing. A debriefing also attended by the Commander's current captain, Wil Trichon, as well as the highest ranking officer in the whole Navy, none other than the Naval Commander in Chief himself... Said debriefing managed to leave a bittersweet taste in Qorbin's mouth however. On one hand he was commended on his results and rewarded accordingly - and that was the sweet bit about it. Then again he was also told that the VENI request regarding him and the former agent known by most solely as
Ensign Grey was officially approved...
In exchange for a captain's position of his own, Seth Qorbin was thus forced to renounce the cockpit of a starfighter. He would no longer be a pilot, a squadron commander and much less a wing commander... He would no longer be able to enjoy that which he loved and also did so very good as well...
