Various noises wrecked the blissful silence Seth Qorbin found himself enjoying. Like a rising tide, screams, moans and yells began waking the man up from his short lived reverie. Cursed drugs must be wearing off was the first thought his clouded mind was able to produce even before the man became fully awake. He recalled the agents swarming in a short while after everything had ended. He recalled the unconscious rogue agent being taken into custody and he also recalled himself managing to stay alert only a few more minutes after that. The last thing he remembered was the white ceiling in the Tower's corridors. The lights shined so brightly as he was transported to the infirmary wing...

"Awake already?" a female voice inquired. The voice lacked any hint of worry or concern, instead feeling more anxious than anything else. Seth smiled as he recognized the speaker and after clearing his dry throat asked in a joking manner "Were you by chance worried... Ensign?" Just then the blond Onderonian agent opened his eyes only to see the calm and calculated expression of Ensign Grey. She stared right back at the man and just as calmly as before replied with a simple "Hardly..." She continued almost immediately afterward however "I'm here to debrief you. We already have a fairly accurate idea of exactly what transpired here but being one of the few surviving agents that got in direct contact with the rogue elements, we'd like to also get your input as well."

"Not much to say really... I heard the commotion and went to investigate."

""In so doing breaking confinement and assaulting the guard assigned to you", Ensign Grey filled in the blanks with the same cold and indifferent sounding voice.

"I was curious and the fellow was in the way... I'll make it up to him though - maybe get him some expensive liquor or something..."

"What happened next?" Ensign Grey rapidly brought the discussion back on its intended course.

"I followed my gut feeling and made for the hangar. Regardless of whoever was attacking us or whatever exactly they intended to achieve through it, I figured they'd need a way out after they were finished. Flying away seemed like the most reasonable choice of exfiltration methods. On my way there I encountered some of our own people fighting amongst themselves. There was... no hesitation in their attacks though. Either they'd been properly brainwashed or they were preparing for this for a long time..."

Ensign Grey continued to eye the blond agent intently as she listened to his recent experiences and analysis of said experiences.

"I managed to catch up to the ones trying to evac and there I ended up engaging in some rather hostile diplomacy... The redhead's quite a skilled negotiator by the way", Seth instinctively reached for his injury and felt around it. The area no longer hurt though. In fact the man couldn't really feel anything as he poked and prodded so he knew that he must've still been under the effect of some local anesthesia or something similar. "Then the cavalry arrived and you know the rest from there..."

There was a brief silence following Qorbin's statement as the man tried to think whether he forgot to mention anything important and the female agent considered everything she heard and how exactly it all fitted along with what she and the other senior agents had already discovered and pieced together.

"There were three rogue cells involved in the attack", Ensign Grey began speaking all of a sudden - knowing that Qorbin would ask what exactly happened sooner rather than later. "Each cell had its own objective - one cell was tasked to sabotage our main power generator, increasing the output until a critical overload would ensue, following which a properly timed explosion could wipe most traces of what exactly had transpired. Thanks to the Tower's architecture and reinforced exterior the ensuing blast would've been fairly contained, though casualties would've still been fairly high. We're still not entirely certain what happened but we believe something went wrong for this first cell. Initial reports confirm that it was there that the fighting began. Details are scarce however as the area was incinerated by the accidental detonation of their charges.

The second cell consisted of only two agents whose mission was to assassinate the Captain. The two of them took out his personal guards outside his office and managed to lightly wound him in the process. Lethal force was unfortunately required to neutralize them before they could accomplish their objective... Lastly, the third cell was apparently tasked with wiping clean our entire database - a task they were unfortunately successful at. At least temporarily so at any rate. Techs and slicers are already hard at work installing our previously saved back-ups. We estimate only a fraction of our intel to be permanently lost, and according to reports I received only a short while ago we'll be back at full power in less than ten hours."

That didn't sound so bad from Qorbin's point of view. "So we'll be just fine then?" the man asked cautiously. "Yes. We've unfortunately lost some good agents in the process though. Aside from the security personnel and support staff, we've lost eight agents, including two Greys. Their loss however, as tragic as it may be, has nevertheless also helped shed light on another matter. Judging by the rogue elements involved in this attack we can safely deduce, without a shadow of a doubt, who the mastermind was - Johnathan Tyrell, aka Commander Grey, was the one that had recruited most of the rogue elements or otherwise had ample contact with them since their joining. I suspect he is also the one responsible for leaking information to the Remnant about our own missions too. Records state that he departed Abrae for a top secret op less than half a day after our escape from Tar Tah Roos. I doubt all these events are unrelated..."

Ensign Grey continued to speak but Seth Qorbin no longer paid attention to whatever it was that she was saying. No, the Onderonian's thoughts were instead preoccupied with the piece of information he just learned - that the one likely responsible for his brief stint in one of the Remnant's penal colonies was none other than the man who ended up facilitating his entrance within VENI in the first place. Slowly but steadily memories of Lasoris Minor and the events that had transpired on the planet's surface as well as in its orbit came flooding back and finally the blond agent realized that the captured female agent he knocked unconscious had been even then loyal to the higher ranked Commander Grey.

Had things turned out differently then Seth himself could've been one of the rogue agents that turned against VENI and the VE as a whole. He wasn't the most loyal soldier to begin with and the Grey commander knew as much even then. Part of Qorbin always wondered why he was so easily accepted after only a couple of black ops in the service of the enigmatic intelligence agency. Part of him always wondered why his past never surfaced or why it never became an impediment to his rising through the ranks. On one hand he tried explaining to himself that it was his skills and the results he was getting that made others turn a blind eye. But what if that wasn't all of it though? What if his interests were carefully safeguarded by this Johnathan Tyrell individual? What if he was merely being led on a desired path only for his true purpose to be revealed at some later time? But if that was the case then what had changed? ...And when?

"You alright?" Ensign Grey inquired with a raised eyebrow. "Hmm? Yeah, yeah... Was just considering the implications of this realization... Say, what about Red? She awake yet?"

"Former agent Darya Eosser is currently entertaining our interrogators. In time she will reveal all her secrets and hopefully some of Tyrell's as well", Ensign Grey replied matter-of-factly.

"I'm not so sure..." Noticing the Ensign's quizzical stare Seth continued with the expected explanation "Both in the past and earlier today I could see it in her eyes - pride and determination, arrogance and... loyalty. She may no longer be loyal to VENI - she may never have been in the first place - but I can tell you for certain she still follows Tyrell's agenda. I'm willing to bet neither drugs nor conventional torture methods will make her talk. You'd need either months of brainwashing, combined with sensory deprivation and constant medication or..." The man grew silent as he pondered on the other option he was about to present. "Go on", he heard Ensign Grey encouraging him to carry on. "I said conventional methods won't likely work on her. There is however a chance for unconventional methods to accomplish all this in a much shorter amount of time.

For the briefest moment Seth Qorbin was able to witness Ensign Grey's stern facade flicker as the woman realized what the blond agent was implying. A couple of years ago VENI managed to capture a known Twi'lek terrorist fighting against the Imperial doctrine using chemical means. There was the threat of a bomb, hundreds of thousands of civilian lives at stake and no time to break the captured alien using the regular methods. With nothing to lose, Captain Grey sanctioned one of the veteran VENI interrogators to use any and every means available to get the information they required. In less than a day VENI got its required intel and was able to safely find and defuse the bomb before it could cause any harm. The general public was kept in the dark about the whole affair so as not to cause panic. The few that knew about the threat learned about the captured terrorist and how after giving up the location to his latest bomb ended up killing himself whilst still awaiting trial. And that was it - the ending to yet another threat the Vast Empire had to face in the dark. That was not however the full story though. Few - very few - agents from VENI knew that the truth was a tad more complicated than that.

The veteran interrogator did indeed manage to break the Near Human specimen but the latter never left the interrogation room. There was no suicide either, only a battered corpse discretely cremated so as not to leave any proof of what had truly transpired. A few months after that incident the interrogator in question failed the routine psych eval and was just as discretely transferred someplace else - supposedly to some tropical world where he could advance the Vast Empire's interests from behind a desk...

"What are you saying?" Ensign Grey asked in a softer tone than before - a small detail, yet one that did not passed unnoticed by the Onderonian agent. "I'm saying that should intel gathering regarding this attack ever become a priority then there may be means of finding it sooner rather than later..."

A thick silence followed after that. A silence that neither operative wished to break. A silence that neither operative knew how to break...

Abrae, VENI Tower
Two days after the attack

The door before him had an ominous feel to it - that's what Seth Qorbin thought as he remained still in front of the thick metal door barring his way forward. He was in one of the lowest levels of the Tower, an area normally restricted to most agents and instead used for the darker VENI agendas. In other words this was one of the places where Captain Grey or others with enough authority could safely pursue goals that did not necessarily coincide with the Empire's views or the galaxy's morals. It was a great place to hide things. It was a great place to create things too - poisons, viruses, bombs and all manner of other secret technologies. It was also a great place to get rid of those that interfered with the greater good. There were rumors of captives being kept in the bowels of the Tower even before VENI took over - way back from Abrae's role as a penal colony for the Empire. Nobody was brave enough to repeat such rumors, though most VENI operatives believed them to be true...

May the gods forgive me for what I am about to do, Seth prayed as he pushed hard against the metal door which screeched its resistance in return. Once inside, the man turned to close the door, once more bearing with the annoying screeching sounds as he did so. Then he turned to face the only other person in the room. Right in the center of said room stood a metallic frame upon which Darya Eosser laid strapped to, in a spread eagle position. There was a single uncomfortable looking metal chair placed right in front of her as well as loads of surgical devices and obvious torture instruments scattered all over the place, on the small shelves that circled the entire room. The two agents stared each other down, the woman with a hint of arrogance and contempt whereas Seth instead looked at the captured woman with pity and apprehension.

"Evening", Qorbin finally broke the silence and greeted his former colleague in a casual sounding tone. It was fake however and both of them knew as much. Furthermore, both knew that the other knew as much too. "People upstairs are getting antsy about finding out exactly what secrets were compromised, as well as what Tyrell's plans are... Whom is he working for? For how long has this been going on? How did he manage to plant so many double agents right under everyone's noses... There are loads of questions they want to ask you and yet you're resisting interrogation. I warned them you would by the way... You could've been spared the needless drugs and torture droids had they just listened...

Well I got good news and I got bad news. Mostly it's bad news I suppose... Good news is that Jigsaw finally listened and agreed that regular methods would get him nowhere. Especially not any time soon anyway. The bad news is that he agreed to try some... unconventional methods to get the information out of you. And that's where I come in I guess - I'm here to extract that information through any means necessary."

Seth took a break and stared at the woman, wanting to see whether she'd have questions or whether her facial expression would betray anything useful that he could later use. He had no such luck however. The woman had been trained well enough and for the most part knew all the tricks in the book. Unfortunately for her Seth knew of some that weren't listed in any books though...

"You don't look concerned... Admirable to some extent I suppose, but it's not really impressing me you know. I won't hold it against you if you drop the facade and just be honest with both me and yourself. There are no holocams here so everything that transpires in this room will stay here - you have my word on that."

Once more silence spread throughout the small room as the two Humans just stopped and stared at one another. "Not very talkative huh? Still I have to ask all the same - where is Tyrell? Who is he working for? Also, as a personal curiosity of mine, was he already serving two masters when we first met above Lasoris Minor?"

Not a single peep came out of the woman's mouth however. Her expression did somewhat change though, her look now betraying a warped sense of superiority, as if knowing something the Onderonian did not brought her some comfort and perhaps even a small measure of satisfaction too. "A shame... Hardly unexpected but disappointing all the same... Seeing how you're not willing to partake in a civilized conversation you force my hand to act and do that which I was sent here to do in the first place. Know that I'll take no pleasure in it and genuinely apologize in advance for what's about to come..."

Having said that, Seth got up from the cold metal chair and made his way to one of the shelves from where he picked up a couple of syringes. One contained a greenish substance whilst the other one appeared to lack any color whatsoever. "DSL-039m, a cognitive enhancer dealing in attentional control that will make sure you can neither block out the pain nor diminish its sensation either", the man spoke as he showed the captive the greenish looking syringe. "And ßGX8, a beta blocker that will keep you awake and conscious for hours after hitting your system..."

The implications were obvious - the captive would be unable to either block the pain or allow it to knock her unconscious. Whatever Seth Qorbin had in mind, the former VENI agent would be wide awake and fully alert.

Slowly approaching the captured agent Seth raised first the transparent syringe and brought it near the woman's neck, carefully piercing the skin and injecting the contents inside. Then he repeated the same procedure with the green syringe, its contents moving a little slower as it was more viscous in nature. After finishing Seth returned the two empty syringes and placed them back from where he initially picked them up. There was yet a third syringe neatly placed in the same place, one containing a pinkish looking substance, but the blond Onderonian decided not to use that one as well. At least not yet anyway. The third and final drug he had available was specifically designed to both lower one's pain threshold whilst at the same time increasing any and all sensations - pain included.

"I highly urge you to reconsider your position here", Qorbin spoke once more as he casually sat back on the metal chair he abandoned only minutes before. "Your training may have provided you with a resistance to torture and interrogation techniques, but trust me when I say it has not provided you with an immunity in this regard. You will break", Seth spoke and leaning forward added an ominous sounding "I guarantee it..."

Abrae, VENI Tower
Nineteen hours since Darya Eosser's interrogation began

The heavy metal door screeched once more as it slowly opened and out came a pale yet bloodied Seth Qorbin. "Get me a HoloNet transceiver", the man asked simply and then staggered towards the nearest refresher. Fifteen minutes later two guards carrying the medium sized contraption awaited outside the interrogation room. Five minutes later a somewhat cleaner looking Seth Qorbin returned to them and after struggling to open the door, single-handedly shuffled the holopad inside - making sure the guards would not be able to see anything within.

Precisely twenty seven minutes later a single shot could be heard from inside the room. Before the security detail could rush inside and investigate, Seth Qorbin once more opened the door and stepped outside. "Notify both Captain Grey and Ensign Grey that I'm ready for a debriefing", the agent spoke softly but clearly before turning to leave the lower levels of the Tower.

~~~~~~~~~~
"What happened in there agent? I'm told Darya Eosser is dead - and not as a result of wounds suffered during interrogation either. Care to elaborate?" Captain Grey asked a couple of hours after the fact, when he could finally squeeze in enough time to grant an urgent audience to Qorbin. Even despite his masked voice, Seth could still tell the man was a tad angry - a fairly natural response and one Seth could actually emphasize with on some level.
"Darya Eosser told me everything she knew about the former Commander Grey. In exchange for that information I put her out of her misery, as we both agreed to before the exchange", Seth Qorbin replied simply. "That was not your decision to make agent!" the highest VENI authority once more called out in obvious anger and/or frustration. "No sir it was not", Seth answered just as unperturbed as before, "but I made that call all the same..."
A tense silence followed until finally it was Ensign Grey who found the nerve to break it. "So what did you find then?" she asked all businesslike. "Both Darya Eosser as well as all other agents involved in the attack never revealed any past mission details to any third parties. They were all however debriefed by former Commander Grey so it's safe to say that he is aware of at least some mission specifics.
Likewise, most of the other agents except Darya Eosser and two others never knew that the former Grey agent was having dealings with a third party. Details regarding this contacts - where they took place, when and how - were beyond Darya Eosser's knowledge. What she did learn in time however was that the former Grey was working for the Imperial Remnant - or at least some other faction therein. She was able to give me a name as well: Moff Wurezsh."
"...This confirms it then", Ensign Grey interrupted as she turned to speak to the Captain. "Moff Yullius Wurezsh of the Imperial Remnant was the one responsible for the sector that contained both the planet Naru Baan as well as the secret penal colony Tar Tah Roos. Chances of all of this being a simple coincidence are slim to none."
Once more there was an awkward silence in the room as Captain Grey seemed lost in thought. Finally the man turned to face Qorbin and asked in a calmer tone "I understand you also requested a HoloNet transceiver. What was that for?"
"I needed to verify whether Darya Eosser was telling me the truth or not. The transceiver was required so I could make a call across the galaxy", Seth Qorbin explained matter-of-factly. "A call where? To whom?" Captain Grey inquired as he leaned closer. "A call to former Commander Grey", Seth effortlessly replied. "You spoke to him then?" the VENI Captain pressed the matter further, obviously interested in whatever the former Grey agent had to say.
"No", the Onderonian agent lied for the first time in several hours. "He shut down the line as soon as he realized it wasn't one of his men calling."
"I see..." Captain Grey slumped back in his seat, clearly disappointed with that outcome. A brief side glance at Ensign Grey revealed the woman's eyes slightly narrowing as she stared back at the blond agent. Deciding not to pursue eye contact any further Seth instead shifted his attention back to the VENI leader. He knew the other man would still have a few more questions left before he'd allow him to return to his quarters and finally get some rest. Not that he would get any rest that night - not after what he did deep beneath Abrae's surface, in that small metallic room...
Abrae, VENI Tower
Five and a half hours since Darya Eosser's interrogation concluded
"Proceed doctor", Ensign Grey instructed her Human companion - a bulky male that although looked more like a soldier, wore white overalls, thus showing he was in fact part of VENI's medical or research divisions.
"Right, so beginning the autopsy of Darya Eosser - former VENI agent. Subject is Human, female, 29 years of age. Medical record shows no genetic anomalies or signs of diseases though there is a long list of medical interventions present: stab wounds, broken limbs, broken ribs, punctured lungs, a crushed liver as well as dozens of fire treatments - the result of countless gunfights."
"Skip the formalities doctor, there will be no official record of this autopsy", Ensign Grey spoke out, making the doctor jump a bit at the sound of her voice. "Yes, very well then... In that case let us begin", the man replied and reaching for the white sheet covering the former agent, the VENI doctor swiftly pulled it away.
"Dear gods!" the man uttered upon seeing firsthand the battered corpse of his subject. "Where, where to even begin from?" he muttered softly, obviously not meant to be heard by his one person audience. "Doctor?" Ensign Grey asked after a minute, seeing no sign of progress from her companion. "Yes, yes... I'm just trying to figure out exactly what happened to her..."
After spending a couple more minutes in a still silence, the doctor finally moved forward, approaching the corpse set before him.
"There appears to be some inflammation around her eyes", the doctor spoke as he moved in closer to investigate. "Surrounding tissue feels sticky and clammy... She must've cried quite a bit before she passed." Reaching out with two fingers, the man opened first the woman's right eye and then left eye. "Both pupils are dilated and there are a few tiny capillaries here that burst. I can't tell whether from physical or psychological trauma yet..." Reaching inside his lab coat the man grabbed a pair of fancy looking goggles which he proceeded to put on. "There are signs of microscopic blisters right on the cornea. If I'm to guess a heat source was used in close proximity to her eyes..."
Looking around the room Ensign Grey took note of a simple welding torch. She couldn't tell for certain if that had been the cause of said micro blisters or not, but using it definitely could've accounted for the symptoms presented to her.
"Her nose is a tad more colored than the rest of her complexion. Let me see here... Yes, there are signs of tearing inside. I cannot tell for certain until I open her up but if I had to make a guess then I suspect she was forced to ingest large quantities of fluid through both her facial orifices. The feeling of drowning followed by the equally agonizing symptoms brought on by hypoxia - a useful method of acquiring information in some of the more uncivilized parts of the galaxy..."
"Oh my!" the doctor suddenly backed away the moment after opening the former agent's mouth. "The... the subject's jaw appears to be dislocated and there are clear signs of muscle tearing. There are no outer bruises indicating this is the result of external trauma so I am left to deduce that this is instead the result of some sort of other contraption. Hmm... something that could pry open her mouth in order for an even greater torture to be applied...
Ensign, this woman's left side maxillary premolars have been forcefully removed. The surrounding tissue is inflamed and engorged now but given these cuts here and here I can tell that the wound was further aggravated after the teeth were removed. It's almost as if..." The doctor paused a bit and leaned in closer to the corpse's head to poke around. "Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing. The gums were sliced through and the nerve underneath was pulled closer to the surface. Ensign, as far as pain inflicting methods go, this one would've caused an immeasurable amount in a very short amount of time."
Ensign Grey narrowed her eyes as she imagined Qorbin reaching inside the rogue agent's mouth, pulling, twisting and pinching the exposed nerve - with each touch sending waves of pain straight into the form agent's brain.
"There is a small puncture wound at the base of the subject's neck... Let's see here, there's actually two - no, wait... make that three distinct puncture wounds here. Two of them were made cleanly, and the upper left one was almost concealed by the presence of this large one. Unlike the other two this one presents some jagged edges - either because the subject moved around or because the one doing this could no longer properly hold the instruments he used. In regards to whatever was injected in her I'll have to draw some blood and make some tests however...
Moving on with the examination - there appears to be extensive bruising along the chest and abdominal area. The bruises seem to be focused on only certain regions however, and not covering the entire torso. These wounds on the sides for instance were clearly targeting the ribs and possibly the lungs underneath provided any of them cracked. I can't say for sure until I open her up but given the coloring of the bruising as well as the swollen surrounding tissue I'm willing to bet she has at leas a few cracked or broken ribs.
I'm curious whether this was done before... or after the water torture. With her ribs injured like this, coughing up the water stuck in her airways would've been all the more agonizing - it would've created a strong mix of physical as well as psychological torture: on one hand the involuntary need to expel the water as hard as she could and on the other hand the pain of doing so with each breath she struggled to take...
And if you note here Ensign, the area above her liver also shows the same signs of bruising. Given the tissue discoloration I'm willing to state that these were made at roughly the same time. Ensign, a liver shot in her condition would've not only been painful in and by itself, but would've also forced her to first release the air she was holding in - either by screaming or coughing it out - following which she would've had to breathe deeply again, at which point her ribs would've become the next painful obstacle to deal with.
Also on the torso lies what appears to be the cause of death - a single blaster shot that appears to have hit her heart squarely. Death would've been nearly instantaneous... Hmm, her right shoulder feels... yes, it actually is dislocated. I can't tell whether this is the result of her being pulled or pushed around or whether she unintentionally did it to herself when trying to escape the pain...
Following on with the initial investigation... The right elbow appears to have been crushed and this is clearly an intentional wound, one definitely not self-inflicted. Further down it seems we reach yet a new area of interest for the interrogator. Most of her knuckles appear to have been likewise crushed and the index and middle fingers show signs of having been twisted around until the point of breaking. The real torture in this area however appears to have been done lower still though, on the fingertips of each finger.
The... the nails appear to have been removed and I cannot say at this point in time whether they were pulled out with pliers or whether they were forced to come off by shoving rough instruments underneath them whilst still attached... Whichever the case may have been, after the initial shock a strong burning source was applied to each digit, burning and at the same time cauterizing the wounds thus both inflicting further damage as well as preventing the victim from bleeding out. In time these wounds would've surely become infected and it's doubtful plastic surgery could've helped rebuild her fingers the way they once were..."
The doctor took a short pause as he looked closer to the subject's right hand. After finally having seen enough the man moved on the other side of the frame and inspected her left hand as well. "The same modus operandi can also be found on the former agent's left hand. Whoever did this clearly wished to be thorough..."
Ensign Grey refrained from replying, in truth even she not really knowing what to say. On one hand she wanted to accuse Darya Eosser of being a traitor and defend Seth Qorbin by thinking that the man was merely doing what he had to in order to right a very wrong situation... On the other hand though, even the cold and experienced agent could not hold back a hint of revulsion looking at the corpse sprawled before her. She knew that there were times when the goal excused the means but she couldn't help but wonder whether these means were not perhaps too extreme after all...
"The lower limbs appear to have suffered similar treatment overall. There is evidence of patella fractures on both limbs", the doctor spoke as he stared at the woman's broken kneecaps. "Given the savagery associated with the other injuries I've discovered thus far I'm actually surprised anyone would've taken the time to merely stop and break her legs as well. The subject would've been in so much pain already that these new injuries would've hardly even registered anymore. Unless... Unless of course they were made previously. It's impossible to tell from just looking but I'll be able to get a better chronological timeline after I investigate the tissue underneath and check for degrees of damage and amount of scaring and bruising.
Like with the upper limbs, the toes also appear to have suffered a gruesome denailing, and just like with the fingers a fire source once more appears to have been used to further damage and afterward cauterize the injury. There appear to be no other signs of foul play - at least none that I can see yet anyway."
Moving away from the corpse the man next approached the Grey agent standing a few paces away from him. "As pointed out Ensign, I'll be able to get a more elaborate report once I crack her open and determine the exact amount of damage caused by each injury as well as perhaps determine the chronology in which they were all made. I'll be able to produce a full report in four... maybe three hours time."
Ensign Grey merely nodded at this and instructed the doctor to get to it. For now she had no reason to assist to the whole thing, the preliminary findings being enough to sate her curiosity as far as this whole mess was concerned. As the woman turned to leave the medical specialist to his job, the latter's voice echoed from behind her: "Ensign! I know that this is the work of one of our own agents but had I not known as much then based on the injuries discovered here I would've easily concluded that the perpetrator had some deep sociopathic tendencies. The individual in question used some of the most painful and grotesque methods of torture I have ever come across and yet he kept on going and going and going. Ensign... it is not my place to judge here but perhaps the individual in question should undergo an immediate psych evaluation to determine whether he is still fit for duty."
Ensign Grey stopped just as she was about to leave the small room. "Thank you doctor", the VENI agent calmly replied as she stepped out into the Tower's lower levels. Her expression was as calm and calculated as it usually was but underneath the surface her mind was working overtime trying to put together the information she just uncovered and also trying to think what she should do with that information...
Abrae, VENI Tower
Seven hours since Darya Eosser's interrogation concluded
"Come in", Seth called out and a few moments later the door to his chamber opened and in came Ensign Grey. "You were supposed to get some rest agent", the woman spoke calmly after making her way inside. "And yet you knew I'd be wide awake instead", Seth Qorbin replied just as calmly.
"Have you been drinking?" the higher ranked agent inquired after noticing an open bottle atop the sole desk in the room. "Mhmm", the Onderonian male nodded simply. "Feel free to pour yourself a glass or two if you want... Doesn't really seem to work for me at the moment alas", the man spoke and pointed to a corner where three more empty bottles could be seen stacked against the wall.
"You alright?" the Ensign asked after taking a seat and pouring herself a drink as invited by her host. "Yeah... at least I will be once I'll stop hearing her screams echoing inside my skull."
A brief silence ensued, a silence that both individuals took advantage of to take a few more sips of their drinks. "Want to see a psychologist? I can make sure there'll be no records of it", Ensign Grey offered after looking at the man - trying to determine whether the recent interrogation had broken him or whether he could still function and be of use to VENI.
"Wouldn't really work on me..." Seth began after downing the remaining liquor in his glass. "We'd just end up talking, I'd end up bored and nothing would really change as a result. Seriously, I'll be fine on my own, trust me on this."
"Seth, I've seen what you did to Darya..." Ensign Grey spoke in a somewhat softer tone than usual - something that slightly took Qorbin by surprise. "She wouldn't talk... Told you she wouldn't... And every half an hour or so I stopped to ask the same questions over and over again. At first she remained silent. Then she couldn't remain silent any longer. She screamed, she groaned and she moaned but still she refused to give me any information.
By the time she was finally ready to talk I could no longer properly understand her. She had to struggle to make sense because she feared - she knew - that if she wouldn't then I would continue. She begged for death you know? Her eyes were red and swollen from crying but even so I could tell there was no longer any trace of defiance in her. All there was left there was terror and dread. I knew she was likely telling me the truth but still I waited to verify it for myself.
That's when I called for the HoloNet transceiver. I figured that if she was able to finally give up her former master then the rest of what she said must've been true as well. So I kept her there while I set up the transceiver, I allowed her to continue suffering until finally I pulled out my blaster and put an end to it all. The weird thing though... The weirdest thing about all of it was her expression at the very end. In that one second it took to grab my gun and point it at her I swear I could see her expression lighten up. I saw hope in her eyes as I pulled the trigger."
Seth stopped himself to pour another drink - a drink that he downed halfway almost immediately after slouching back in his seat. "How weird is that, huh? Being thankful for dying..." the man mumbled as he stared at his glass for a few moments afterward. "Are you regretting your actions?" Ensign Grey asked carefully - part of her wishing to hear the answer but part of her dreading to hear it at the same time.
"Regret? No, I don't think so... Every step of the way I offered her a chance to talk. I warned her she would in the end anyway but she refused to listen. She refused to believe that her training only protected her from so much terror... No, I don't regret my actions though I'm sure she would've regretted her failure to reveal the information on time. No, the thing I'm feeling now is... Not really sure what it is actually. Fear, I wonder?"
"Fear? What are you afraid of Seth?" the higher ranked agent inquired as she leaned in closer across the table separating the two. "Afraid that had she not broken when she did then I would've kept on pushing. Afraid that I would never have stopped on my own. Afraid that I somehow knew, on some primal level, exactly what to do to get her to talk. Afraid that there may be some terrible darkness lying inside me. Afraid that it may have always been there too..."
Noticing the woman's stare, Seth gulped down the rest of his drink and then added in a forced joking manner "Then again perhaps this is the liquor talking after all. Stress, alcohol and a lack of sleep are said to do that to some people, right?"
"You should rest then", Ensign Grey softly spoke as she placed down her empty glass and got to her feet. "We'll continue this conversation on some other occasion", she warned the man before turning to the door and making her way out. The door swished shut behind her and the Onderonian's room was left silent once more. Silent except for the sounds of breathing, of drinking and the blood curling shrills echoing inside the blond agent's skull...
No!!! Stop... Stop! I'll tell you... I'll tell you so please... Please... STOP!!!
You've displayed the knowledge known for a pass in the first tier of Naval Doctor.
I'm very impressed with the story, although it goes against normal medical standards and practices with intentional harm involved. Feel free to add (=NDr=) to your ID line.
As said, I'll go with less of a Hippocratic approach and more of a Mengele goal in mind. This knowledge will not really be used to save allies and such but rather to intimidate and break enemies... usually in VENI storylines - and most likely lacking a great deal of details too.
Oh, thank you for the pass too
