OOC:
This is a multi-part story that I am running with just to clear up some writer's block. I hope you enjoy it.

Toothbrush, Hat, Coat, and Datapad.

Therex looked at the items on his bed. It didn’t seem like much, but Faska was usually well stocked on things he needed for daily life. Sighing, he started putting things into a bag. Faska had a knack for calling at the worst times. Terre was none too pleased that he had to cancel several weeks of dinners with her, and go off to, as she put it, “Hang out with the guys.”

When his comm beeped, There shook her out of his head for now.

“Yeah?”

“Hey,” Faska’s voice came clear over the comm unit. “Iggy and I just arrived. We’re waiting for you at the docks.”

“Alright, I need to make a quick stop, then I am out of here.”

Faska replied by ending the call. He wasn’t much of a talker, and he trusted Therex to not keep him waiting. Donning his coat and hat, Therex grabbed his other items, and tossed his pet Katarn some meat before heading out the door. Locking up the place, he turned onto the sidewalk and headed away from the docks. His first stop was probably the most crucial.

After about 10 minutes of walking, he walked up to a small house. Knocking on the door, he tried to keep his hand from shaking. When he heard the lock click, he cleared his throat and waited. The first thing to come out of the door was a hand. A fast moving hand. It made contact with Therex’s face and made him take a few steps back.

The next thing to come out was the body it was attached to.

“I thought you had left already.”

Terre’s voice was a mixture of harsh and relieved. More harsh, however.

“Something about how the boys needed you so bad, that you decided to ditch me for your entire leave.”

Therex let her seethe at him for a little bit, rubbing his face. She was obviously still peeved. They had spent months trying to get leave at the same time, and had made several plans for the time. But when Faska had called him and asked for his help with some new project, Therex couldn’t refuse. It wasn’t bros before hoes, but rather, a sense of duty towards the Velkyries... To his friends.

“I’m sorry,” he started with, hoping to keep her calm. “I was just heading out and thought I would say goodbye.”
She merely snorted at him, and shook her head. Crossing her arms, she glared at him and waited for him to continue his “excuse.” Therex knew better though.

“So,” he said, stepping back up to the front door, “I guess I’ll make it short.”

He leaned in and kissed her on the forehead.

“I will be back soon.”

Rather than waiting for a retort, he turned on one foot and started down the sidewalk, this time headed for Faska. When he could see the docks, he made out the towering nine foot piece of metal that he knew as IG-88/e Approaching him, he merely nodded and let him lead them down a corridor. At the other end sat Faska and his ship. It was a modified cruiser. Therex honestly had no idea where he had even started, but in the end it looked sleek and powerful.

After exchanging pleasantries with Faska, they climbed aboard the ship and left the atmosphere pretty quickly. As they entered hyperspace, they all gathered in a large room with a single holo projector. Faska approached it and hit several buttons on the console.

“For several years, we have been experimenting with droid technology. From large to small.”

Letting a quick timeline scroll by, showing their progress, Faska stopped it at a droid that looked much like a crab but with several pieces. He hit another button and the screen zoomed in and gave an exploded view.

“This here, is one of our crowning achievements. It is a nano-bot. The technology has been around for a long time, but we wanted to go one step further. Imagine the human body. Tissues, organs, muscle, skin, so on. But on the molecular level, they are all the same. Made of cells.”

Flicking through more of the timeline, Faska found a small lab video. It showed two men, each holding a jar of silvery liquid. When they approached each other, the liquid rose up out of both jars, and met in the middle, falling to the ground, before rising up again, and forming into a small replica of a mouse droid.

“It can take any shape, it can even replicate functions. But recently, we had a breakthrough. We can make human analogs. They breathe, have a heartbeat, and even have blood running through their veins. Problem is, the human brain is much harder to replicate. They are just machines. Basic intelligence. So, we came up with a simple solution.”

Switching off the projector, Faska returned the lights.

“We need a human behind the wheel.”

Therex gave him a weird look, confused for a moment.

“You mean like a drone? Like piloting an unmanned vehicle.”

Faska gave IG a worried look and sat down in one of the chairs around the room.

“Not quite so simple...”

(Chapter 1 done.)
