Well, Disney owns Marvel and Pixar. Those two brands seem to be thriving from what I can tell. And if they want to throw the minds behind The Avengers into a new Star Wars movie then I'm all for it!

Personally, I'm stoked. It's long past time the franchise was out of Lucas's hands and if The Avengers is anything to go by, Disney owning the rights might just be a very good thing indeed.
I wonder if they dare discard the EU at this point. From a business standpoint the biggest draw Star Wars presents is in the loyalty of its cult following. Trashing the EU will seriously piss off a LOT of us, and may even invite lawsuits. Personally, I don't think they'll risk that. The point is to take advantage of a cult following to earn a profit, after all. There's no profit in antagonizing us.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic at this stage.
Disney won't go out of their way to trash a franchise which has the potential to rake in billions of dollars of profit over an extended period. I'm sure they are aware of fan expectations. I disagree with all of you. I think disney will completely total Star Wars in an attempt to make money and gain younger fans.
On a separate note, for those of you who think disney had a strong hand in the avengers, your wrong. Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers were already bieng worked on when Disney bought Marvel. The Avengers just happened to come out after Disney bought Marvel, so it is not an example of Disney's good movie making skills. I think that the new Star Wars will be crap. Why? Because they will try to come up with an interesting, yet censored storyline that will only really have success with untrue fans and children. Then, because of that crappy succes, they will keep building on the same crap story over and over. Even if there isn't anything to work off of. Think about it. Every time disney mad loads of money off of a movie, the made a crappy sequel or two that no on liked. Very rarely in Hollywood do sequels made for money ever turn out good.
