Flail

Created decades ago a relatively harmless security department for the pharmaceutical company Gygaxial, Flail was originally brought about due to the paranoid tendencies of Gygaxials’ founder. It functioned simply as security for a number of years, before being rapidly outfitted to meet the growing concerns of the founder, Chairman of the Board at that point. Secrecy became key, as well as firepower, and Flail had an abundance of both. Records are unclear, but evidence gathered on Flail has led most to believe that they were provided information on upcoming galactic events, as the sudden surge of the security department coincided with the rise of the original Galactic Empire. Further evidence shows that Flail lent their services heavily to the Empire, who in turn funded them enough to further increase their armament and personnel size, as well as providing enough money to keep Gygaxial producing enough pharmaceutics to remain a legitimate business. At this time, however legitimate they were, they were only a thin cover for Flail, who continued to grow and evolve, expanding their array of bases across multiple planets. During the height of the Empire, they began to change from purely offense to a hybridization of offense and experimental operations. They began to convert some of their bases to research facilities. It is unknown just how many of these facilities exist, because of the absolute secrecy regarding their creation. The fall of the Empire, a death blow to many that associated with them, barely slowed Flail, and Gygaxial, down. They quickly jumped ship and began to work for the New Republic, though it was revealed that they continue to hold many of the ideals introduced by the Empire, such as xenophobism. This led to their cooperation with the NR being kept secret. Flail’s offensive section fell into disuse and was melded into the now dominant experimental research division.

Type: Class-II “Crushers” Mutants

Physical Description: Massive creatures that stretch the human framework they were built on, these creations crash about on muscular frames. The surgical and drug regimen used in these experiments created monsters that have prodigious strength in every part of their body. It is needed, as their frames are universally five-hundred plus pounds of almost all muscle.

Physical Abilities: Incredible strength of both upper and lower bodies. More intelligent than Class-Is, they occasionally will use bludgeons to attack, and will also use their strength to fling things. They are smaller in number than the class-Is, but they are individually far more dangerous. Their eyesight is slightly better than the class-Is, but their other senses are not as good.

Summary: The class-IIs are the second mutants that Flail created, and form much of the successes. They stomp forwards, and their rudimentary intelligence makes them more dangerous individually than the class-Is. With their ability to use simple weapons, they become more dangerous than their Class-I brethren. They, too prefer to fight alongside their own kind, but in smaller packs than the smaller class-Is; this is likely because of their greater size, they need fewer to take down their adversaries. They can be frightened by explosives, but, ironically, are drawn towards heat and light.
