The shadows hide Velius mud splattered white armor as a set of security droids walked past. Velius slowly laid down in the mud, and started to crawl, making sure he stayed in the shadows. He regulated his breathing as he crawled thru the mud, trying to keep it steady. The set of security droids turned around and proceeded the way they had come, this made Velius stop. Every part of his body wanted to move to a more hidden location, but Velius made himself not.
If they haven't seen you, don't risk moving. The fact that they haven't already seen you is a good thing. The voice of his trainer haunted his mind. Velius agreed with this statement for moving “would” only give his position away, so Velius waited. The droids walked no more that 10 feet from him with out breaking a stride and not seeing Velius sprawled out form. After they had past, Velius continued to crawl, keeping himself moving at the same pace as before. Slow, as if the two droid were still only 10 feet away. A search light flashed in front of Velius causing him to stop dead in his tracks. The light moved on and so did Velius. 30 long minutes of slow muddy crawling later, Velius came to a low barb wire fence. He could have easily crawled straight thru it with his armor normally but stealth was major here. Yes, he could have crawled right thru but that would have meant a storm of wriggling and pulling which would have, with out question, draw every security droid in the area onto him, thus failing his mission to stealthy infiltrate his training base. He could not let this happen so Velius pulled a small pair of heavy wire cutters out of a pouch on his belt. Being ever so carful to not make the wire fly into the air after cutting , Velius snipped the wire then grabbed it with his gloved hands. He did this to the next wire too just to give him a good amount of space to crawl thru. After putting his wire cutters back into the pouch on his belt, Velius crawled thru. This introduced the second of three parts of his test, avoiding watch towers.
Velius crawled for another 20 minutes, passing one more set of security droids before coming to the first watch tower. It looked as if each tower consisted of one revolving light at the top and one droid to man it. The towers flanked the main road to the base in a zig zag patter and a security droid patrolled the road. As the light from the nearest tower past in front of Velius, he stood up and sprinted to the base of the first tower, making sure to keep low as he ran. When he made it to the tower he flattened himself against the side and peered around the corner. The lone droid was at the other end of the road so Velius didn't have to worry about him, what he needed to worry about was the other towers spotting him. Between the towers was all open which would allow Velius to quickly sprint to the next tower. Just as he was about to take off to the next tower, the voice of his instructor echoed in his head again.
Just because a space is open doesn't mean it isn't dangerous. Open space tends to be filled with landmines. One of those can not only incapacitate you, they will also alert the guards if they are set off. Velius frowned as he looked closer at the ground and noticed about three landmine placed a fair distance apart from each other right in the way of his path.
Well I 'm glad I didn't set any of those off when I ran thru, Velius thought to him self as he looked behind him and saw at least two landmines poking out of the ground. Turning is attention back to the task at hand, Velius noted the positions of the landmines and waited for an opportunity to make his way to the next tower. When that time came, Velius sprinted to the first mine and with a small pen sized EMP drill and with it he disengaged the mine then moved to the next. Just as he finished with the last one the light of a tower started to approach making Velius run to the next tower were he regained his bearings. After catching his breath and making sure the coast was clear, Velius darted out into the field, disengaging the two mines that separated him from the last tower. With more time than last to disengage the mines, Velius made it to the tower a good ten seconds before the light from the adjacent tower did. Now all that stood in Velius way of the training facility was the light above his head and the security droid who was now walking back to Velius end of the road.
I guess I'll have to wait. Velius thought to himself as he tried to make having your back flattened up to a wall comfortable. After a long ten minutes of waiting an opportunity opened up to run to the base as the droid and light both turned away from the main doors. Without wasting a second, Velius ran full speed to the door, only barely missing two land mines on his run by jumping over them. As Velius reached the door only one thing was on his mind, two down, one to go.
Velius felt extremely proud of himself for completing the first two courses without getting detected, until he tried to open the main door.
You've got to be kidding me! It's locked, well there goes an easy finish. Trying the door once more, out of frustration than anything else, Velius began to make his way around the building looking for another way in. After slowly making his way half way around the building, stopping at every corner to see if any security droids were behind them, Velius came upon a small window a little above his head. After quickly checking to see if the coast was clear, Velius pulled himself up on the window to look in. Inside was dark but Velius could see that all it was just a small storage room. The decision to take the window out and to crawl through was finalized after a quick check of the area. Pulling himself up once more, this time by the ledge of the window, Velius pushed on the window with one hand and found it loss. After numerous more times of jumping down than up, Velius finally got the window loss enough to pull it out and put it on the ground.
Here goes nothing. Velius hoisted himself up into the window, making sure to not make to much sound on his way in. With both his feet firmly on the ground, Velius slowly inched to the door and opened it. Making sure no guards were in the halls. Then he made his way out the door and down the empty halls.
Look for the door with the red “X”. His trainers voice once again haunted his head. Finally after minutes of slowly making his way through the halls, Velius came to a normal looking door with a bright red “X” on it. Velius smiled and sighed as he knocked on the door.
“Come in.” A voice said from within. Velius opened the door and found his trainer and the squad of commandos he'd been training with sitting around a table. All of them looked at Velius, his armor covered in mud and his figure slouching.
“You've passed.”
