Velius sat back, letting is mind wander as he stared off into space, thinking of the stars, the planets, his home. Looking into the darkness and finding tranquility. Velius listened to all the tiny voices around him, waiting for one to say his name. One to comfort his homesickness. Velius reached into his pocket and pulled out a small picture of his parents. He grinned as he looked at his mothers small smiling face and his fathers old worn expression of joy.

“Was  coming out here a good idea?” Velius thought to himself. “Will mom and dad be ok without me there by their sides? What if I am not excepted on Lianna? What if...” Just as Velius was finishing his thought, the Taylander shuttle he was riding  lurched forward, causing Velius and many other unhappy or sleeping passengers forward in their seats. A quiet voice  echoed over the speakers in the cabin.

“Hhhello, this is your your co pilot speaking. We have experienced a small amount of solar wind. We shouldn't experience anymore. Thank you.”

The voice quickly cut off, replaced by a low hum.

“Well that was a show of pure skill.” Velius said to himself. “It sounded like the person was scared half to hell. Is it even possibly to experience turbulence in space?”

Velius yawed and got up. Trying to be vary careful not to wake the man sitting next to him, Velius wiggled past him and walked down the isle of his cabin, looking for the stewardess. Upon finding her, Velius asked one straight out question, Wheres the fun at? The stewardess smiled. She was young, maybe 24, and very pretty. Velius starred, transfixed, into her eyes waiting for an answer.

“Well, this is no cruises ship but there are some “fun” things you could do.” The stewardess replied. “We have some movies playing in the lounge a deck down and we have a dinning area down there too.”

Velius thought for a second then smiled. “The dinning area would not be alone, would you go with me when you shifts over? I'll pay.”

The stewardess thought to herself for a second then replied, “Yes, let's make it a date. I get off in an hour. Will you meet me there?”

“Yes,” Velius replied, “I will meet you there. My names Velius, what's yours?”

The stewardess smiled and started to walk down the isle, pushing a small cart with a wide assortment of foods. “My names Uino, see you in an hour.” The stewardess winked, then turned her back on Velius,  leaving him grinning as he walked down below deck to the lounge.

Velius stretched as he rose from his seat in the small theater crowed with a mass of chattering bodies. The lights in the room flashed on, blinding Velius for a fraction of a second, but his eyes adjusted to the light and Velius remembered his dinner date with Uino. He began to push his way through the group, emerging at the rooms door. A robot at thanked him for coming as he walked out into the empty hallway. He stood there for a second, his eyes closed. Trying to readjust him self to being alone.  He half expected his parents to walk out of the room behind him, asking if he liked the movie. This did not happen and Velius was left, looking like a fool in an empty hallway.

The dinning area was empty and light with low hanging orange light which made everything look dark and unhappy. Velius sat at a table by the window, watching the stars float in space. A slender robot rolled over to his table and asked if he wanted anything.

“No thank you,” Velius replied, “I am waiting for somebody.”

The robot turned and rolled back to the bar of which it came. Velius looked around the room looking for Uino. He then looked at his watch, 20 minutes I have been sitting here. Velius thought to himself. Is she coming? I haven't been here to long, I'll wait a little longer. Velius glanced to the bar and notice a bounty hunter, hunched over a small glass. Velius looked harder at this bounty hunter and realized that it was a female Mandalorian. A hood covered her eyes but Velius could see that she was unhappy. She raised the glass to her lips and tilted her head back. The contents of the glass vanished and the bounty hunter cleared her throat.

“I can't believe that some people try to solve their problems with drinking!” Velius thought to himself. “I will never drink to try to solve a problem, I will take the problem head on.”

Velius grinned to himself, happy with his new goal. He looked down at his watch again. 45 minutes I've waited, is she coming? Velius shifted in his seat. And why are these chairs so damn unconformable!

Velius sat at his table for 20 more minutes, waiting for Uino to walk through the door. She never showed and Velius sadly left the dinning area.

Velius returned to his seat, unhappy and depressed.

“She was probably just very busy thats all.” Velius thought to himself. “I shouldn't be unhappy, it was just a spur of the moment thing anyway.”

Velius close his eyes to sleep. Thinking of his home, The planets, the stars, and his new freedom as an adult. I think I am going to like this. I think I am going to like this very much. A grin spread across Velius face as he drifted into a peaceful slumber.

Day 1- Today my shuttle touched down in Lianna City West Spaceport. I got off and was shocked by the sheer size of this city. Just the space port was the size of all my family's land back home. I walked around the city for a while and learned that it was the largest city on Lianna, the capital to be more specific. Everywhere you look there are police officers, just standing there, sitting on a bench, leaning on a wall, they are everywhere. It seems that a large city comes with a police force to match. I walked by the Legislature Building on my way to the hotel I'm staying in. It looked like something out of a kids story. It's walls were of white and gold stone, but seemed dwarfed however compared to the hundreds of towering skyscrapers that flaked in on every which side. I checked into  a hotel room and are planning on looking for a job tomorrow. I hope I can find one, if I can't then I don't know what I am going to do. Hopefully I'll get to explore the city more tomorrow too. It's huge. It seems it may take me years, but I hope not!

Velius pushed a button on the small tabled on his lap. His first day on Lianna vanished before his eyes. Velius put the tablet on the table in front of him and stood up. He walked over to the window and starred out at the thousands of ships speeding by. I stare out of windows a lot! He chuckled and walked over to a small kitchen area in the back of his hotel room. Velius opened a small cabinet and looked in. Inside he found a few boxes and cans. Well at least they give you some food at these hotels. Velius thought to himself. I'll go shopping tomorrow. Pulling out a can of soup and a box of rice, Velius started to make a quick meal. When he was done, Velius took his soup and sat on a stool in front of his rooms large windows. He slowly nursed his soup as thought. Velius thought a long time, about everything, from his early childhood, to his education, and his loneliness. The wished for one thing,  friends. For people in this new land that he could count on. Velius starred out into the the vastness of the city, knowing that there was a friend or friends out there yet.

The lights of a new day drew Velius from his bed.  He got up and prepared for a long day of job hunting. If I am going to be living here now, I will need to find a way to earn some money. Velius ate, then ventured out of his hotel room to the city scape at his feet and above his head.

Velius started his job search by locating an information bot and after a weary 10 minute search, Velius finally found one. In the shadow of an enormous sky scrapper a lone information bot stood, repeating it's one big line. How can I help you today.? Repeating these six words till it is answered and this time, it was answered by Velius.

“How can I help you today?” The bot asked Velius.

“Well, uh, robot, I would like to see the job listings for today.” Velius said.

The “stomach” of the bot opened and a screen was revealed. On the screen popped hundreds of little links. Wow, this is a lot of jobs. Hum, let's see if any of them are in the vicinity of my hotel.

“Um, robot, search jobs in distract 595.”

A question mark appeared on the screen and a low hum could be heard as the robot searched. After a few second the question mark disappeared and a list of local jobs popped up. Velius took a minute to look through the list and finally made a decision.

“Thank you.” Velius said to the information bot.

    “Your welcome.” It replied.

As Velius walked away, hear heard the bot begin it's loop of six simple words, how can I help you today. As he walked further away, he began to feel happy and began to think to himself, are robots considered friends?

Day 2- Today I found a job near my hotel. It is a small job at a local shop. Right now all I have to do is open and run the counter for 5 hours. Pays pay and it is enough to pay for food and my hotel. Aside from that, I get to meet lots of people, but I have notice many of them seem tired and quiet. It disturbs me, is this what awaits me as I live in this city? If so then I will force myself to move somewhere else, but that may not be a bad thing? It may lead me to more experiences which I have yet to discover. All in all, I am happy and hope I can get am apartment at some point. Now that would be excellent.

For a second time this week, Velius turned of his small tablet and sat back. I as so glad Greta's had an opening. Velius sat on the couch in his hotel room and decided something. He decided that tonight, he would go out and find a person to talk to, a friend. Velius slowly nodded to himself, Yes, I will find a friend. Maybe I should try a bar or maybe a dinner? I don't know, I've never had to "find" a friend before. Velius slowly rose from seat, stretching every muscle in his body, finally coming to a motionless stand. He stood here for a second, wondering why he had never had any friends.

"Is there something wrong with me?" Velius called to the emptiness of his room, awaiting some unseen person to call back. "What have I done wrong?"

Velius raked his mind, searching for a place wee he had gone wrong. Nothing came to mind, he was smart, had an interest in gun, he was strong and athletic. He remembered how all the children in his neighborhood would laugh at him and call him names like "Big Brain" when he was transferred into his "special" level of learning. Could that be why I had no friends? That seems like an odd reason to not be friends with some body though. Just because I was smart people didn’t like me? Velius wrinkled his nose, disgusted at the thought.

"Well, I didn't need them any way." Velius laughed at them for the situations they must be in now, stuck at home with there parents. "Look at me now," Velius boomed in his small hotel room.  "I am on my own, I have a job, and I’m trying new things."

Velius shook his head disgusted at his childhood. He snapped out of his trance of thought and continued with his new life.

________________________________________________________________

The night air was dry as a desert against Velius already parched throat. Small clouds followed everyone walking the streets of Lianna City. Velius himself had a small white cloud trailing behind his head and he found it very amusing, he even named his. Now I real am losing my mind. I named my steam cloud just so I would have somebody to walk with on the street. Velius shook his head out of his own embarrassment of himself.

After walking for a good time, Velius came to a small bar. The flashing light above read The Notch. Velius stood out side for a few minutes, trying to judge the bar by the patroness entering and exiting. After a few normal looking men and woman stepped in and out, Velius decided it looked fine and entered. A cloud of light blue smoke crept out the door as he opened it. Velius body was over-whelmed by intense heat as he stepped in. The bar was crowded with tons of people and Velius headed straight for the bar. Behind the counter stood a large middle aged man cleaning a glass with a rag. He saw Velius approaching and grinned to himself. As Velius sat down on a stool in the middle of the bars counter the bartender walked over to him.

“Hey kid.” The bartender tapped Velius on the shoulder to get his attention from the bars surroundings.

Velius turned his head at once and found himself looking straight into the eyes of the bartender.

“Yes?” Velius replied.

“Aren’t you a little young to be in here, the drinking age is 21.”

“Yes, sir, but I wasn’t planning on drinking. I am just here to be more “social”, I am new in the city and thought I might try to get to know some people.

The bartender gave Velius a very smug look and snorted to himself. Velius in return gave him a very questionable look then he realized what the bartender was implying.

“No, no not that kind of people.”

The bartender rolled his eyes and patted the Velius on the shoulder, “Kid, I think you’re going to be all right, what can I get you?”

Velius smiled, “Can I have something nonalcoholic?” Velius asked the bartender.

The bartender nodded and vanished behind the counter. Velius sat there, on the, in the bar, waiting for something of meaning, waiting for a sign that something was going to happen. The bartender returned from under the counter with a glass of pink liquid.

“So kid, how old are you?”

“I’m nineteen; I just left home and I am now on my own.”

The bartender nodded and just as he was going to reply, a customer from down the counter called him.

“Hold tight kid, I have just the group of people you may like.” The bartender turned and briskly walked to the other end of the counter to attend to the other customer.

Velius hunched over and slowly sipped the drink the bartender gave him. Should I trust the bartender? This drink could be poison, but what am I saying. He wouldn’t poison me, he doesn’t even know me. Why am I thinking about this, it’s weird! Velius shook his head, wanting to clear his head of these thoughts.  He finished his drink and sighed. This is nice; at least I’m not cooped up in my hotel room. The bartender walked back over to Velius.

“Hey, what’s your name?” the bartender asked as he took Velius cup.

“My name is Velius, what’s yours and how much is the drink?” Velius pulled some money out of his pocket.

“My names Amino and these two are on the house.” The bartender smiled and gave Velius another cup of the sweet pink liquid.

“Oh, well thank you Amino.” Velius smiled and began to slowly drink his drink.

“Hey kid, about the group of kids I was going to tell you about, they come in every other night. They will probably be in tomorrow. Would you want me to set up a meeting, just so you could get to know them? My son is sort of their leader and you remind me of him.” Velius saw a kind twinkle in the bartender’s eyes.

“You’d be willing to do that, for me? You just met me.” Velius was dumfounded, he might actually get some “friends”.

“Sure kid, you just come in here at around 8 and I’ll have a table clear in the back.”

Velius smiled, “Ok, I’ll be hear. Well I think I’m going to go home, I got work in the morning. Goodnight Amino, thanks for everything.”

“Your welcome kid, I hope to see you tomorrow.”

Velius got up from the stool and walked out into the streets of Lianna City and he was happy.

The hill was covered in a dark grey mist that consumed everything that entered. A muffled growl could be heard from the unknown of the mist. A tall and elegant  figure appeared from over the hills crest. He was dressed in shinning white armor, light glinting off of it in the dark like the stars. A blue strip could be seen on the left side of his chest. In his arms sat a smooth barreled blaster, cradled like a baby in the mans arms. Following this man is more men, in shinning white armor. One carried a large multi barreled rifle while another carried a backpack, filled to the rim with extremely powerful explosives. The man at the lead of the brigade halted as the growling grew slowly louder. The blue stripped man motioned for the group to lower them selves to the ground. A large shape rose from the mist, growling like an angry dog. Silver claws of razor sharp metal split at his fingers. The beast throw his head in the air and slashed his claws together. The blue stripped man calmly signaled for the men to ready there guns and the other men complied. At the snap of the blue stripped mans fingers, the men opened fire with there blasters, littering the beast with holes and scorch marks. The beast roared in pain, streaking at the top of its hundred lungs, shattering the visors of the group of men, revealing black pits…

Velius bolted out his bed, panting, drenched in cups of sweat. His pupils were dilated and he was breathing very fast. Damn, what the hell is with these dreams!  Velius collapsed onto his bed. He coved his eyes with his hands and sighed, ever since he had began spending time with Gruto, the bartenders son, and his group of friends, Velius had be having disturbing dreams of a massive beast and a group of faceless stormtroopers. These dreams have no logical meaning. What has caused them? Velius was confused, he wanted them to stop. He wanted to be able to make it through the night without having to wake up and change his cloth. Velius took his hands off his face and pulled his small tablet off his bedside table. A small blue holograph of his mother and father appeared, there picture flickered in the hotel room; were only the light from the city crept in. Velius smiled, it had been two weeks that he had been on his own in the city. Two weeks that he had choose to live by himself, and he loved it. He had begun to spend time with Gruto, the bartender’s son and they had become very good friends. Gruto was a perfect match for Velius, besides the face that he was a punk. Gruto was very intelligent, Velius was actually surprised to find that he had graduated from school at the top of his class and that he had spend 1 year of extra school after graduating, but was unfortunately pulled into the punk scene of Lianna City after that. Now, Gruto hung with a small group of people, all around the same age who just roamed the city, looking for trouble. Gruto explained to Velius that he wasn’t necessarily proud of his choice but he liked the group so he stayed with it.

Velius put down his tablet and the picture of his parents vanished and Velius lied back down in bed. Velius mind wandered, thinking of all the fun he’d had in the past two weeks. He smiled, happy to have friends and closed his eyes.

Velius slowly rolled out of his bed and dressed for work. A white shirt, dress pants, ect…, then a long leather coat and shoes. The city out side Velius window was exploding with life, transports were flying around like bees in a hive, people were roaming there streets in a sleepy daze, trying to begin there new day, and Velius was heading to work. His job was running the counter of a small local shop called Greta’s, the shop for everything. Greta’s was owned by a small old man named Retouro, who was in the last of his years and who claimed to have seen everyone and everything. He had hired Velius in the blink of an eye, but not because of his youth or impressive resume, but because of his ability to be nice to the customers. All of his other employees had been mean, sour people, looking for a simple job, and quick money. Retouro had fired every one of them, horrified at these people’s attitudes. “A good attitude makes a good person”, Retouro would always say, shaking his small wrinkled head. Velius would relax behind the counter of the store, absorbing all the free knowledge and wisdom he could acquire from the old man, almost believing the old man about having seen everything. Retouro would tell stories of adventure and space, of wars and Retouro’s duty in the military, having acted as a stormtrooper scout. When he first brought it up Velius bombarded him with questions of what was it like, why did you retire, so on, and Retouro would sit there and laugh, which made Velius a little flustered.

“Why are you laughing at me?” Velius asked, making it clear that he was truly confused.

“Well. The military is an evil thing. All it accomplishes is death and destruction.” Retouro’s tone grew serious as he continued, “Killing, everyone, leaving the survivors alone and hurt. Hurt mentally, scarred with horrific images of slaughter and pain. The military is no joke, you shouldn’t laugh about it.” Retouro briskly rose from his chair, twisting his face into a dead serious stare that cut straight through Velius’s white eyes.
“It’s no joke.” And with that Retouro walked into the back of his store, leaving Velius both confused and disturbed.

It was a cold dark day; a thin sheet of light rain fell upon the dry streets of Lianna City, but the streets were still packed with human, creatures and robots, all dripping wet and uncomfortable. Velius however was extremely comfortable inside the warm walls of Greta’s, talking to a man looking for a cheap set of silverware. Velius was nodding as he talked, noting every detail he desired.

“I a looking for something cheap,”

“Cheap, got one.”

“In fair condition,”

“Good condition, ok”

“And I would prefer that it be blue.” The man looked at Velius questionably.

Velius pretended to look through the rack of silverware, having already found one, now just trying to build suspense.
Behind him the man stood impatiently tapping his foot and looking at the clock.

“Ah, here we go, I have on right here.” Velius turned around holding a small gray box. “You can take a look if you'd like.” Velius said as he handed the man the box, which he opened quickly.

“Yes, yes, these look fine. How much for them?” The man said as he began to check if any were damaged.

“10 credits.”

“I'll take them.”

-Transaction-

“Thank you, come again.” Velius called to the man as he rushed out the door into the cold rain. Velius sighed, “My shifts nearly done, I should ask Retouro if I could close early.” Velius turned and walked into the back of the shop were a small apartment was located. This is were Retouro lived, while being able to keep a watchful eye on the store. It is here that Velius found old Retouro, putting dishes away.

“Hello, Retouro?” Velius peeked through the kitchens door way.

“Yes, Velius? What is it?” Retouro was standing on a stood placing a plate on a top shelf/\.

“Uh, do you want me to do that? You could get hurt.” Velius asked truly worried about the little mans safety.

“No, no, carry on.”

“Well I was just wondering if I could close early today. It's bad weather and...” Retouro cut in.

“Yes you can close early, I will see you tomorrow.” Retouro got down from the stool and smiled at Velius. Velius smiled back and gave a quick wave then returned to the store where he proceeded to close up. Just as he was about to leave he realized he had to tell Retouro something, that he had to quit. Velius had decided to travel around the planet of Lianna, just for fun but also because he didn't really like city life too much. It was to... repetitive and dull, Velius needed excitement and Lianna City just didn't have it. So Velius made his way back to Retouro's apartment where he found Retouro in same place, putting away dishes.

“Velius, I thought you were heading home.” Retouro wobbled on is stool.

“I need to tell you something. I...” But Velius didn't finish statement for at that instance, old Retouro fell off his stool. Velius lunged forward. Grabbing the old man in his arms, surprised at how light he was. Velius set him of the ground and sighed,

“I have to quite, I have to leave the city. It's far to dull here for me.” Velius grimly starred into Retouro's own old eyes.

“I understand, now lets make this formal. You work one more day, I give you your last paycheck and right now, you take my scout armor. It's no use to me and you saved my life.” Retouro quickly left the room and returned holding a large black bag.

“Oh, well that's very kind of you but..” Retouro cleared his throat and shook his head.

“No it's yours. Treat it kindly and always remember me. Now get out of here. You have a big day tomorrow.” Retouro winked at Velius and Velius felt his self become very sad.

“I will miss you!” Velius called as he walked out of the shop carrying the large black bag. “And always remember you...”

Rain drops slid down Velius face as he walked through the street, but if you looked really closely, you could see that some were, tears.
