- A11-Combat Interrogation
Crusnik walked into the class room with data pad in hand and sat down three rows from the front. He looked around the room and saw there were only five other troopers in the room.
Small class. I wonder why? After his thought the training officer had walked in, set his papers down on the front desk, and looked about the room.
“Well at least it’s not the smallest I ever have. My name is Lieutenant Anderson and I will be your instructor for Combat Interrogation,” he said, while Crusnik turned on his data pad to take notes. “We have little time and a lot of information to go over. So let’s get started shall we?”
“Let’s start from the beginning. The objective of any interrogation is to obtain an amount of usable information possible in the least amount of time. Each interrogation has a purpose: to obtain information to satisfy the assigned requirement which contributes to the successful accomplishment of a unit's mission. The interrogator must keep this purpose firmly in mind as he obtains the information. The objective may be specific, such as establishing the exact location of an enemy, or it may be common, seeking order of battle information about a specific enemy force. In either case, the interrogator uses the objective as a basis for planning and conducting an interrogation,” Lieutenant
Anderson paused a few seconds so the troopers could take the information down.
Lieutenant Anderson continued, “The interrogator should not just concentrate on the main objective to a point that he overlooks other valuable information extracted from the source. For example, if during an interrogation he learns of a highly destructive weapon, he should not disregard this piece of information. Although this information may not be in line with his specific objective, he develops this lead to obtain all possible information concerning this weapon. The objective of an interrogation can be changed as necessary or desired.”
Crusnik took down the information before everyone else and had some time to spare, so he went ahead, looked back to see if he missed anything and went over some the information again.
“Now that we covered that let move on to the fun stuff, combat methods of interrogation,” Lieutenant Anderson proclaimed, with a smile on his face.
“Let’s start with the two golden rules of combat interrogation. Rule one; do not kill your suspect until you get the information. Rule two; get the information by any means necessary. Now these two rules lead us to the three steps of interrogation, which I will be showing a video example of each step.”
“The first step is giving them a sense of security. Be polite, but be sure to let them know that you are holding all the cards; that’s when you give them the option to choose to hand over the information or not. Which leads to step two, but we’ll get to that in a moment. The video is myself in action, enjoy,” Lieutenant Anderson then turned off the lights and started the video.
The video had Lieutenant Anderson, two other officers and two suspects in it. They were all in what seemed to be a trench.
They must be in a middle of a battle field. I wonder when will I be on one. Hopefully soon. The first suspect was a middle aged human, with dark brown hair, hazel eyes, average body type for a human and had a scar going across his forehead. The second suspect was also a human, about the same age and body type, but had red hair and blue eyes. The second suspect was bound and gagged and laid at their feet with a look of panic on his face. The first human was pinned against the wall of the trench buy the two officers, while Lieutenant Anderson started to interrogate him.
“Well Zeed, it looks like you’re in between a rock and a hard place,” Lieutenant
Anderson proclaimed.
“Well it looks like I am sir,” Zeed replied, with a halfhearted smile.
Lieutenant Anderson stepped forward.
“Zeed it would be better, on both parts, if you just give us the codes,” Lieutenant
Anderson stated cordially.
“Go frak yourself, you imperial dog,” Zeed yelled and had a look of disgust upon his face.
“Well I guess we’ll have to go to plan B,” LT Anderson stated and walked up to Zeed.
Lieutenant Anderson stopped the video.
“Now we are moving on to the second step, which is roughing the suspect up a bit. Not too much and not too little; you don’t want to knock the suspect out. You’re on a mission or battle situation. You don’t have time to mess around. Get your information then get out, that’s all. Also if you’re in a hurry, a well-placed shot to the knee cap will work. I have to warn ya, this isn’t going to be pretty.”
Lieutenant Anderson continued the video.
“I’m giving you one last chance Zeed,” Lieutenant Anderson said, as he unholstered his pistol.
Zeed looked at Lieutenant Anderson with a determined look on his face and didn’t say said anything. For a few moments no one said anything. Then Lieutenant Anderson had let out a sigh.
“If that’s the way you want it,” Lieutenant Anderson said with a displeased look on his face. He walked toward Zeed, flipped his Pistol around and pistol whipped him about three to four times in the face.
“Feel like talking now Zeed?” Lieutenant Anderson asked as he stopped.
Zeed still didn’t say anything. He just had that same determined look on his face and spat blood at his feet and grinned as his did.
“Not enough I see so lets turn it up a few notches, ok,” Lieutenant Anderson said. He then lowered his gun to his knees and fired two rounds, one in each knee. Zeed yelled in pain and started to tear up, but didn’t shed any.
The second suspect wriggled and made noises of discontent. As he watched his buddy get shot in both knees.
At this point Crusnik took a quick look around the room to see what the other troopers were doing. Every trooper had their eyes wide open with a look of discomfort on their faces as they watched the video. He had felt the same way as they did, but pushed those feelings aside and concentrated on what’s happing now.
The two other officers struggled for a moment as they now had to readjust the suspect by holding him up by his arms.
He’s strong for a human, but he won’t last at this rate.
“This can all stop now Zeed. All you have to do is give us the codes,” Lieutenant Anderson asked, in an annoyed voice.
Zeed looked up at him. Now his face was red and swollen, with some bruising and a busted lip.
“Screw you,” he said, in a trembled voice.
“Now Zeed, that’s not what we’re looking for and now you’re forcing my hand,” Lieutenant Anderson stated while he turned to the second suspect.
Lieutenant Anderson stopped the video.
“Now we are proceeding to step three, which is to threaten the subject when step two doesn’t work. Now you can’t just threaten the suspect, you also have to threaten the suspect with some thing or someone precious to them. Usually threatening a family member, a loved one or a friend works; if not, target their assets. A good example of that is threatening to taking their money and ruining them financially. But this a combat situation, money and material things will not work. Target a friend or a fellow soldier while on the battle filed. Now let’s see that third step in action.”
Lieutenant Anderson continued the video.
He had walked over and pointed the gun at the second suspect’s head.
“Now give me the codes or your buddy’s last thought will be my bullet. So What will it be Zeed?” Lieutenant Anderson asked.
The second suspect trembled with terror and had tears rolling down his face.
Crusnik didn’t like the thought of doing this.
It just seems wrong to me. But if it comes do to it I will have to.A form of anger and fear had came upon Zeed’s face.
“Please, Just let him go, he‘s got nothing to do with this,” Zeed pleaded.
“Will you give us the codes?”
“Yes, just let him go,” Zeed begged.
“Ok. Once we have the codes he will be released. You have my word. Now go patch him up and when your done with him take this one with you,” LT Anderson ordered., as he put away his gun.
The second suspect had let out a grunt of relief.
The video ended and the lights come back on.
“Well I hope you six learned something, because we are going to take a quiz right now and you better pass with flying colors.” LT Anderson said while he sent the quizzes to their data pads.
Crusnik heard a few disappointing moans, as he started his test.
