Hello everyone! You’re probably wondering what this is all about and what Skarr’s Rewrite Challenge really is. It’s actually very simple. You know, we all have thoughts that if we had just put more time into a post it would have been far better than it really was. Or if we could go back in time with the skills we had now, it would be a really good post. Well, that is what this challenge is enabling you to do. The purpose of this challenge is to do one of two things. You can go back to one of your very first posts, the kind of posts that you think ‘I was really that bad?’ and rewriting them with your current writing skills. This gives a lot of the older members a gauge on just how far their writing really has come. The second option is to take a post of yours that you think you did extremely terrible on. A post that you contemplated whether or not you were drunk when you wrote it. This option is more for those who have only been here a few months and are still in the first posts phase. Either option is open to everyone.
This challenge is completely optional and open to all Army members, no matter what rank, position, or amount of time you’ve been here. While Army High Command is encouraged to participate, they will not be eligible for the grand prize.
What I’m looking for is an increase of word count, a fixing of spelling and grammatical errors, loyalty to the source text, and coherency. I want your posts to be longer (unless they were already extraordinarily long) with good spelling and grammar that is coherent and stays loyal to the original. Meaning I want to see how much of the original post you kept. The goal is to rewrite the post, while keeping the content the same. Now, this isn’t just something I’m asking you to do with no rewards. There will be rewards for doing this extra credit, which I shall get to here soon.
Specifics:
- You will have one week to write your submission, the challenge ends March 23rd.
- Participants will be graded on word count, spelling and grammar, loyalty to the source text, and coherency in both the post and story
- Squad story, platoon story, personal story, and competition posts can be used
- Participants are required to submit their entry in the Skarr’s Rewrite Challenge Posts thread in the STC StoryNet with an OOC comment giving me the word count and the link to the original post
- It is also required that the original post be edited with an OOC comment saying ‘Used in Skarr’s Rewrite Challenge’
Now onto the rewards!
Rewards:
- All participants will receive the Will to Reform ribbon
- Havock and Garryll is watching very closely for promotion and medal opportunities, the better you do, the better chance for one of those increases
- The participant with the best rewrite shall receive a reward of 250,000 ICs
