Hyperspace Somewhere Between Tadath and Loreth

The YT-1300 sliced through space with ease, the blue vortex of hyperspace warping around the ship. The ship was going as fast as it was able to. It had been heavily modified to output the highest power into speed. The mission it was on was not critical, per say, but a certain quickness was needed.

The inside of the ship was very clean and nearly empty of everything non-essential. A man was walking through the corridor near the front of the ship. He was just returning from the cockpit after making sure the ship was still on auto-pilot and following its set course. He was tall and muscular, which was all the more evident from the tank top and sleeveless vest he wore. His skin prickled with goosebumps from the cold of the ship, he had not quite been able to fix the heating systems and the rest of the crew had not been able to figure it out either.

The man rounded the corner and entered the small room they had established as their conference room. Essentially, they were using the crew quarters as their conference room. It was comfortable enough, and the crew were taking whatever comfort they could get. They knew their mission would most likely be a tough one. He found himself facing one of the smallest crews he had ever had. Three humans, one male and the other two females, and a Barabel, male. He supposed they would suffice, but only one had any kind of experience behind them.

2nd Lieutenant Norith Skarr sat down in one of the chairs that had been shoved into the small room. He had been in charge of better operations in the past. It had been too long since he had been in charge of one like this. He loathed that they had to use a junk ship like this, he was used to the military hardware he was always using. But he had been advised against that, this mission was supposed to be discreet in a way. So for the purpose of this mission, Eclipse Squad was posing as a group of mercenaries. It was probably the easiest cover that Skarr had ever embarked on, he didn’t have to fake not having a military history. The only thing they had to do was come in with some less than stellar arms and a ship.

It pained Skarr that Eclipse would not be able to storm into this mission wearing their SCOPE armament, instead they had to rely on lighter armor and older weapons. But it was all part of the mission, and Eclipse had been specially trained to make the most of any situation. He smiled at them as he dug threw his pocket for his datapad.

“So, what’s the story boss? AHC kicked us out pretty quick,” Bernadette spoke up. There was a general nod of assent from the others. Skarr punched up a few files on his datapad before looking up.

“High Command got word recently that the Carnifax system is going apeshit, rebellion’s on the uprising and that kind of stuff. We’re being sent to help,” Skarr explained.

Zippy snorted from where he lay in his bunk, “I thought Carnifax was independent, why is AHC bothering sending help?”

“That’s where the fun comes in ladies and gentlemen,” Skarr answered, “We’re not being sent to help Carnifax. Eclipse is being sent to help the rebellion. They’re pro Vast Empire. Who knew?” Chuckles rang through the room along with Baraduk’s hissing laugh. “As always there are a few catches, the first being that the rebellion hasn’t been too successful as of right now. The next is that we need to keep our involvement as much of a secret as possible. The only ones who know of our assisstance will be the rebels themselves. If we let the public and the government know, that will be useful propaganda against us.”

“And that’s why we’re posing as mercs?” Meteora supplied. Skarr pointed to her and nodded.

He looked at his datapad again, “Our first objective is supposed to be meeting the leader of the rebels, Jayce Rayder, but I’m changing it. We’re going to commit the first evil sin of missions and we’re going to spilt up. Half of us are going to set up our safehouse, the other half is going to reconnoiter the city. I want hard data. Number of patrols, what are they protecting, what are they ignoring, are they taking part in crime, how many people are around, unusual stuff, you know the deal.”

There was a chorus of affirmatives from the group. Skarr started to stand, pushing his chair away and stretching his back. The Barabel hissed, “Should we not figure out the groupzzzz now?”

The Lieutenant shrugged, “I don’t see why we can’t. Zaria, you take Baraduk and Zippy with you. Meteora and I will set up the safehouse. Baraduk, you’re a hunter, but I don’t want you stalking any prey. Just learn our hunting grounds.” The Barabel’s tail flicked in amusement. “If that’s all, I’m going to count this meeting dismissed.” Only silence remained after the statement. Skarr nodded and exited the room, heading back to the cockpit for the rest of the journey.

Loreth

The ship burst out of hyperspace and glided down into the atmosphere. Flight control had already hailed the ship and confirmed that it was a mercenary vessel hired by Grand Governor Garrum Illium. Skarr was pleased. So far, the cover was holding. The YT was directed to a small spaceport near the government sector of Loreth City. They were unharmed by security forces after they landed. Part of the contract with Illium was that they would be allowed to land without any checks at all. They could land with whatever weapons they wished.

Skarr was grateful for that part of the contract. Of course, he was not here to honor a contract. Eclipse exited the ship, each of them carrying a heavy backpack. “You each have your credentials correct?” Eclipse muttered several affirmatives.

“Remember, be discreet. I don’t want any unwanted attention. No firefights. Just check out the area, you three.” Skarr smiled at the three of them and clapped them on the back as they began making their way into the city. “Come on Meteora, we have a job to do.” The young trooper followed him as he went in an entirely different direction than the rest of the squad. They were now on Loreth, the fun was certainly going to start.

OOC:
And so our squad stories begin! Bernadette, Vicious, and Zippy, you are going to go check out the city. Just write about the state of the city so far. It's almost in a military state, complete with curfews, soldier patrols and the like. More info is listed about Loreth below. As for you, Meteora, you and I are going to the safehouse to set the area up. I think you're creative enough to think of stuff to write about in that area.

Extra Info:

Carnifax System-  A system close to the boundaries of the Vast Empire, just along the Unknown Region. The system boasts over eight planets, with only three being habitable. The three habitable planets are all colonized, the planets being Loreth, Veric, and Kastell. The other five planets are a mix of barren rocks and gas planets. The largest gas planet is full Tibanna gas, and the barren planets are full of various minerals, making Carnifax a very valuable system. Carnifax’s major exports are in mined material, such as ores, minerals, and tibanna gas. So far, the system has stayed independent of any influence but their own, benefiting from the sales of their exports. Their defence force has also proven more than capable of shoving off any of the conquering forces. But lately, pirate attacks have been becoming more and more common, forcing many residents of the system to question if they should be a part of a larger government, mainly the nearby Vast Empire.

Loreth- This planet is the largest in the Carnifax system and also the most populous, containing dozens of major cities. This led to Loreth being named the capital world of the system. Loreth is the center of goverment, meaning that the rebellion is centered mainly on this planet with only a few small patches of resistance on the other two worlds. The planet is also the merchant capital of the system, with most of the systems commerce assembling in the major cities. This results in crowded bazaars full of various alien species and their wares, in addition to the large shopping centers that wealthy business men have set up. All in all, Loreth is a very rich place, but the amount of competitors and tourists keep prices very low. The planet would be very useful to the Vast Empire, so the rebellion has been given top priority.

Garrum Illium: Grand Governor of the Carnifax system and Prime Minister of Loreth. He is essentially the ‘main bad guy’. He wishes for the Carnifax system to stay under independent control, despite the general call of merging with the Vast Empire. As more and more threats to security arise, he has turned the government from a democracy to more of a dictatorship.

The 2.2 meter, black scaled Barabel trod down the ramp, his custom fitted armour boots clicking against the metallic surface. His armour made him look even bigger than he was, with an E-11 holstered on his right hip and hunting blades on his lower back, with a collapsible sniper rifle folded up on his upper back. He towered over his squadmates, who were also in custom gear - they were disguised as mercenaries. At this point, Skarr and Meteora took a left to head to the safehouse, while Bernadette led them in the opposite direction. They showed their fake identification and mercenary permit at the security checkpoint and exited into the city. As they did so, they were immediately assailed by a cacophony that was the result of hundreds of beings arguing or bargaining - they were in a large bazaar and no-one seemed to be hesitant to shout out what they wanted. A small Jawa approached Vicious with a small ball in his hand, proffering it to the large Barabel. The Jawa spoke rapidly in his native tongue.

"Thizz one doez not want it." More rapid speaking emanated from the tiny Jawa.

"Begone, before thizz one turnzz sour.." the Barabel hissed, and the Jawa scampered away. Zippy gave him a look.

"Someone's in a good mood.." The Lance-Corporal said in response to the Barabel's intolerance of those people trying to sell him things.

"That izz not the case. Thizz one merely doez not spare time for such beingzz.."  Vicious was not a tolerant person. They continued through the bazaar, avoiding further contact with small vendors and people trying to sell them things. As they exited the bazaar they found themself in a large square. On the far side was a building with huge walls and a large gate; 6 armed men stood outside it and were giving nasty looks at anyone who passed to close, waving their blasters around menacingly.  The three stormtroopers took a left turn, walking parallel to that building, keeping a careful gaze on the men with blasters. Dotted around the main fortifications were many other guarded compounds - it looked like the central hub for military control. Opposite this area stood a large shopping center - well established, obviously owned by some rich merchant or whatnot. It was approximately 30 stories in height and overlooked the military compounds. The Barabel began to think..

"Thizz one requestzz permission to scope out the military and governmental installationzz from the top of thizz structure.." he said to the ASL, Bernadette. "Thizz one would have an excellent view of the area and gain intelligence that would otherwise be... difficult.. to acquire.." The ASL didn't seem to fussed but she thought over it. Barabels were known for their hunting instincts and observational skill, if anyone were to survey that compound from a vantage point it would be Vicious. But she wasn't sure she wanted to split up just yet. After a few moments she nodded slowly.

"Set up and mark everything you see. The LT wants to know what the Governor's people are up to, what they're protecting, how good they are and how they treat the local population. Do not engage in any case. Understood?" Bernadette told Vicious, who moved his scaled head in a small nod. "Good. Go get set up. Zippy and I will take a walk around the area. I want you to also provide cover for us. Let us know if we're walking into trouble."

Zal nodded again. His ASL turned and gazed across the courtyard. "Oh, and Baraduk-" she began, turning back. But he was gone. She could not see him anywhere - he was doing his thing. "-don't get into trouble" she finished for Zippy and herself, a slight shake of her head indicating her moderate disapproval of the Barabel's unorthodox tactics. She could argue with that, but she couldn't argue with his skill. She ground her teeth slowly; one day she'd have to put her foot down - squads rarely had places for lone wolves, which Baraduk gave every sign of being.

Meanwhile, inside the large shopping complex, the large Barabel was in the process of finding his way upward. There were crowds of richly dressed merchantmen in the center; a far cry from the bazaar they had recently been in. Additionally, Zal Baraduk could see armed patrols watching for thieves and people who didn't belong. Zal followed the crowd as it took him toward the turbolift.. He saw two guards heading the opposite direction and mindful of Zaria's instructions, took an immediate left to get out of their sight.

He found himself in a narrow corridor. He walked to the end of the corridor and took a right, finding himself in a wider corridor with a turbolift at the end. He smiled inwardly and keyed the turbolift open. Stepping inside, he selected the 30th floor. The lift whizzed upward, not stopping for any floors - it was the express lift. It finally slowed and stopped on the 30th floor, the residential floor which was for all kinds of corrupt officials. To this end, each apartment had a pad on the door that you could press your credit chit against to rent it with no questions asked, for the period that the credit chit bought. Expensive. But private - there were no security cameras save those that the tenants wished to install.

Each pad indicated green or red - occupied or free, respectively. Baraduk strode down the corridor, past numerous occupied apartments, until he reached the end. Looking left and right, he saw that there was an apartment under construction 4 doors down on the left. He headed toward it, keeping his steps quiet. The door was open - propped open by a door stop. Peering around the corner, Baraduk could see that it was not under construction. Someone had had the same idea as him. He entered the room silently, reptilian gaze and senses alert for any movement. He heard a cough from a room on his right, and he decided to investigate.

He peeked into the room - a lone man in unmarked gear lay over a sniper rifle, set up facing in the same direction Zal had been planning on setting up. Obviously a mercenary. Before entering, Zal made sure there was no sign that the man had companions - there was no comlink, or any marks of a second person - just this mercenary. Zal stepped into the room quietly, approaching the mercenary from behind. At the last second, the merc heard something and turned - to meet Zal's hand slamming into his face. The armoured fist broke the man's nose and pushed the cartilage up violently, piercing his brain. The mercenary slumped back, dead, blood dripping from his nose. The Barabel stood there for a second, gazing at the body, Zaria and Skarr's instructions nagging at the back of his mind.

He looted the body, finding a blaster pistol and credentials - it listed the man as a certified mercenary, working for the governor. There was a set of instructions on his datapad. The instructions were to watch for any other mercenaries and report on their movements. Obviously the governor didn't trust them completely. Zal almost felt insulted. He hid the body in a cupboard nearby and made sure to close the door before he unfolded his QuietSnipe and set it up in a similar position to the less fortunate mercenary. He adjusted his sights and surveyed the area, picking out Zaria and Zippy soon enough. They were fine, for the time being.

"Thizz one wazz forced to eliminate a mercenary.." Baraduk hissed over the comm. He could see Zaria stop, her movements frustrated.

"Your orders were-" She began exasperatedly

"Thizz one knowzz hizz orderzz. The mercenary wazz assigned to spy on other mercenariezz.. Thizz one believez the governor suspectzz uz." Baraduk cut her off brazenly. "Thizz one izz now set up. Thizz one hazz an excellent view of the area. Stay away from the main building, the guardzz there are getting unruly."

"Baraduk, you and I are going to talk after this" Zaria said calmly, but coldly indicating that he was going to be reprimanded. "Begin your report."

At this moment, the unruly guards decided to pick on a Barabel vendor. The vendor - a red scaled, small enough Barabel - was walking past the main building with a few bags. He was soon enough surrounded by the guards, who had begun pestering him. They had their hands on their blasters and were obviously picking on someone they would normally have no chance again. The Barabel, for his part, was remaining calm. The first guard hit the red-scaled vendor with the butt of his blaster and when the vendor hissed in return, all four of the guards had drawn their blasters and were threatening the lowly vendor. Baraduk ground his fangs, sighting the lead guard. The lead guard hit the Barabel again, who was powerless to respond with four blasters pointed at him. The lead guard then forced the Barabel to his knees, smacking the reptilian vendor again.

"The cowardzz are torturing one of thizz one'zz speciezz.." Zal growled dangerously over the comm. "They must be stopped."

"Negative. Do not engage." Came the short response from the ASL. Zal gnashed his fangs and loaded his rifle as the leader drew his blaster and aimed it squarely at the vendor's scaled head. At his lack of response, Zaria was obviously worried that he would disobey her orders and repeated into the comm. "Baraduk! Stand down!"

Baraduk again snarled but obeyed, as the lead guard put a bolt squarely between the vendor's eyes.

"Thizz one obeyzz.." he said quietly over the comm, furious and shocked inside. When it came to battle, they would know why Barabels were such famed hunters. He would be their worst nightmare, he would make them pay. He could hear Zaria sigh, relieved.

"So that shot wasn't you?" She queried.

"Negative. The guardzz shot the Barabel Vendor" he responded without the emotion that he was feeling.

OOC:
1,678 words. Baraduk splits from the squad to provide overwatch and a better viewpoint. He obeys his ASL when she orders him not to engage guards that are bullying a Barabel. The government forces have now earned Baraduk's vengeance. He won't do anything rash, but he will beat the crap out of them when it comes to battle.

The city was massive. It had been some time since Zippy had been in a city like the one his team was in. All his past missions involved being indulged in battle or a cramped army barracks for a long period of time, which he already missed. Walking around in the crowded, shop filled city, wasn't exactly on Zippy's list for dream missions, but the calm pace was nice for the time being. Constantly being vigilant while exploring the area, he stopped at a few shops to see the different types of wares each one had to sell. All the little items for sale were useless to someone like Zippy, but he could tell by the prices that most were very valuable. Jewelry, clothing, even some weapons for sale, were all very pricey and nothing he would ever pay for. He continued to walk around in the city and notice all the different types of alien species. They weren't something Zippy had much interaction with as a rule, but it was amazing the amount of diversity that was here.

"This place is amazing. I'm more the battle type of person, but this city is very impressive. No wonder this plant would be so valuable to the VE. One could only imagine the wealth the VE would bring in from this planet. With tourism like this though, there are bound to be people hidden through the crowds who don't share in my optimism."

There was no way they could fight in crowds like this. Innocent lives could be taken in crowds like this and they weren't going to take the chance no matter the cost. Of coarse, this was only if they ran into trouble, and in the types of crowds Zippy was in, he highly doubted it. He decided to head into one of the high observation towers in the middle of the city to see if he could get a better viewpoint of the area. Taking the elevator to level 40, gave him a few minutes to get his mind calm and get a bearing of the situation. Once at the top level, it was a sudden surge of amazement. The view was stunning. The vast city and open sky, was a feeling of being overwhelmed, with a hint of beauty, all at the same time.

"This may not be my favorite type of assignment right now, but there are moments in life where you just can't help feeling calm, at piece, and amazed, all at the same time. This mission, is going to be interesting." Zippy said to himself.

He continued to survey the area. Despite the beauty of the city, Zippy could point out the areas of danger with ease. Dark alley ways were just the beginning of what he could see. Sniper points, lure areas. There were so many things that should be taken into account for the squad and that meant they would have to be extra vigilant. They weren't exactly friendlies around here. Zippy decided to get down from the tower and and continue to walk around the rest of the area he was in. Despite the constant crowds, it wasn't that bad a place really.

"I wonder what this mission is going to entail for us. Not exactly the standard, blow through the armored door, guns a blaze mission. More the, lets be covert about it type mission."

Zippy was sure there would be some form of gun fight. It usually entailed with them. As he continued to walk, he constantly looked over his shoulder as a precaution. He never was one to take chances when in places such as these. Zippy was on edge as always. His prowess in the field was good and his senses were high. Even a well placed trap seemed to fail in comparison to his senses some days. Being good with explosives, was becoming a passion of Zippy's. C4 was becoming one of his best friends.

Weapons and danger weren't the only things on Zippy's mind. His new squad mates were also on his mind. Hoping they do their best and work well as a team was important to him. Not to mention getting his sense of humor and fierce fighting skills. The squad was extremely important to Zippy. They were his family. Working and getting along together well was key to their mission success.

"Whatever happens here, we'll be ready for it. We're always ready for it. Better warm up the jokes now because when the fighting comes, I'm sure I won't be ready to crack a joke. Wait, yes I will." Zippy said, joking to himself.

Kaye cast one last weary glance at the battered YT-1300 that had served as their transportation before hefting her bag over her shoulder and exiting the landing bay with the rest of her squad, still rankling at her failure to repair the freighter's heating unit. She had tried every solution within her abilities, considering the equipment she'd had at her disposal. She wasn't sure which part of that equation bothered her more, but either way, failure was not something Kaye planned on getting used too. Already, she'd formulated some new angles from which to tackle the malfunctioning air conditioning machine, which she'd bring up to one of the Navy techs once she got back to the Fleet.

The Fleet, an eternal reminder of where she should have been from the start. As the last mission had proved, being a jarhead was obviously not Kaye's niche' in life, her father's wishes be damned. What she should have been doing was attending Engineering school and doing something that could actually harness her skills. If fighting some pointless war was a prerequisite, she reasoned, then at the very least she belonged on some fancy capital ship somewhere; taking it to the enemies of the Vast Empire from the symmetrical, clean, and- most importantly -perfectly efficient position of a Star Destroyer's bridge.

The unfairness of it all was maddening. So maddening that Kaye decided to shift her thoughts to focus on the mission at hand. Her resentment at being essentially extorted into joining the army not withstanding, Kaye had sworn a long time prior that if she had to be a grunt, she'd at least be a damned good one.

As she took in her surroundings, the first thing that struck Kaye was the vastly different array of life forms wandering about the space port. For every human she saw, there were at least five or six aliens, some of whom she couldn't identify. The only thing they all had in common was that they were all armed to the teeth, much like her Barabel squadmate. The size of the aliens and the ferocity of the gear they were carrying made Kaye feel small and impotent by comparison, what with her only source of fire power being the standard issue E-11 rifle dangling from a sling across her shoulder and the handgun strapped to her waist. Feeling self-conscious, she wrapped her arms across her chest as she walked.

The group stopped outside the entrance to their landing bay section. Now ready to begin the first official leg of their mission, Kaye started to make a comment on the odds of their success, as always, she imagined it to be zero, but was cut off by Skarr before the words could leave her mouth.

“Remember, be discreet.” He said. “I don’t want any unwanted attention. No firefights. Just check out the area, you three.” A sneer formed on Kaye’s face as she considered the paradox that was mentioning a 7 foot tall Barabel and “discreet” in the same sentence, but as quickly it came, it left when she realized that Skarr hadn’t indicated her in the group of three. “Come on Meteora, we have a job to do.”

A deep chill set in Kaye’s spine at her commander’s order, though she managed to avoid letting it show, masking her dread with a look of tired apathy. Her eyes narrowed and her lips pursed, as if she was struggling to stay awake.

“Don’t take any candy from strangers, kiddies.” She said, waving lazily at the rest of the group. “Especially you Zip. You know how sugar makes you.”

The squad exchanged a few more pleasantries, than split into two groups and went their separate ways.

Kaye fidgeted in place, feeling awkward. “So where do we go from here?” She murmured, staring intently at something on the ground that only she could see.

“I've arranged for a speeder to be dropped off here. We'll use it to get to the safe house.”

“Oh.” She said simply, her gaze still focused on the ground. Then a thought occurred to her, and she looked up briefly. “Is driving a rented speeder right up to our safehouse really the smartest idea?”

“I was thinking we'd ditch it before we got to the safe house.” Skarr grinned. “You up for carrying all that gear a click or so?” She wasn’t, of course. Not that that really mattered.

“Nothing gets me pumped for a mission like impersonating a a frigan’ tauntaun.” She replied sarcastically, resuming her detailed inspection of the dirt around her squad leader’s boots.

They stood in heavy silence for a couple minutes until a raggedy looking brown and green four-man speeder touched down in front of them and a leather-clad man wearing a pair of racing goggles hopped out. While Skarr did business with the man, Kaye circled around the speeder, examining it.

In her professional opinion, it was a broken down piece of shit. The answer to how it managed to stay in the air eluded her, though she had to admit that it was certainly inconspicuous. Nothing said “Don’t mind us, just a couple of bum-ass mercs trying to make a living.” like a deathtrap on repulsor lifts.

Once he was done conversing with the speeder’s former pilot, Skarr tossed his gear into the back of the speeder and hopped into the driver’s seat, gesturing for her to do the same.

Kaye did likewise, but hesitated before climbing in, every part of the self-preservation center in her brain screaming at her to just run back to the YT-1300 and get the hell off of the God-forsaken planet.

Instead she climbed into the front passenger seat and hoped her parents had been serious when they mentioned that they were considering taking a life insurance policy out on her.
Skarr keyed the ignition and the speeder coughed to life. “Not the smoothest of rides, is it?” He asked, grinning again.

“No no, this is cool.” Kaye said, gripping the side of the aircar until her knuckles turned white. “I’ve always wanted to experience what it must feel like to be in a fighter right before it explodes.”

“Well at least no one’ll look at this thing and we assume we’ve got ties to an ultra power Imperial faction.”

Kaye winced as the engine barked and the speeder gained altitude. No, they definitely would not.

I hesitated on talking too much about the safe house because I'm not really sure what the setting of its location is like. If you don't mind Skarr, I'd prefer if you elaborated on that a bit instead of me. : P

As every time she had traveled in space, Zaria had been uncomfortable. Not to mention the fact that they were riding in this….contraption…it was nothing like they had used in the last missions.  She had been freezing and worse than that she didn’t know how to feel about the whole mission. Helping the Empire was important to her and had been part of her reason for joining the Corps but this wasn’t the way she had thought should go. She sighed and shivered wondering if things would go better this time around. After the last mission she had begun to fall into the role of ASL a little better but she was still a little awkward. She didn’t feel like she had earned the respect she needed from the squad nor for herself but she was a little more comfortable in the role expected of her. When they had reached the planet and split up she had found her shoulders begin to tense, as always.

Her encounter with Vicious had left her frustrated, wary of continuing through the mission as strictly as she’d first thought. She’d have to talk to Skarr, she realized there was much she was unsure of and still more that made her stomach churn as far as following orders and administering them. With time, Zaria she thought to herself in frustration. She had moved quickly with Zippy, looking around, keeping her eyes open and her head down as was expected.  When they had reached a large stretch of area in the merchant center of the city she had nodded at him, they would split up for the time being, scope out the scene and reunite soon after. There was something itching at her not to and she felt oddly tense. As if something or someone knew that they were here.  She looked around, noting a pair of guards eyeing her and she managed a respectful nod before turning from them and walking as casually as she could down the street.

“Zippy keep your eyes open something is particularly off here, I think the guards are more aware of us than we thought.” She leaned over some wares as if inspecting them and speaking to herself about them, trying not to attract much attention. “Vicious can you give me a visual, anything to report?”

She walked through the traders listening to them yell their wares as she awaited her responses. Her hands were casually placed in the pockets of the pants she wore and her auburn hair was pulled back easily from her face. As she walked an alien shoved past her, she felt him tug at the jacket she wore at her waist and reacting quickly from training she spun, landing a blow to his back before throwing a kick to the back of his head. She stopped for a second, looking around for a moment in shock. The beings around had stopped only momentarily to see the happenings and had then continued on their way, almost making it a point to avoid the scene. Bernadette searched herself, noting that the alien on the floor had tried to take her credentials and she quickly retrieved them, moving through the crowd quickly, hoping to get lost in it.

“Skarr, I don’t know whether this has to do with the mission but I just got what appears to be a local trying to get at my credentials, is there a chance that anyone suspects us?”
One of the guards from before were moving toward her in the crowd, she noted and she stopped as if to speak to a trader. The guard was tall, broad shouldered, with a stern face. The trader grinned at her trying to sell what jewelry he said was authentic from Hast. She felt a presence behind her as she tried to haggle with the trader, not intending to buy anything.

“You’re not from around these part, are you little lady?” The voice was gruff, almost comically so to Bernadette, as she straightened turning dark eyes to eye the guard even as one of her hands moved casually into her pocket searching for a knife.

“I’m just looking for some pretty things for myself. I hope I’m not bothering anyone” Her training wanted to have her address the guard more respectfully but the sake of the mission needed to have her be more gruff. She tilted her head at him as if curious.

“Not at all, little lady, but being new around these parts…well I’m a guard and I know this place pretty well, if you need anyone to show you the town…” The tall man let the sentence trail off.
Bernadette felt her shoulders relax a bit and she managed a grin at the tall guard noting his rank for reference, Sergeant.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Though I don’t know I’m pretty busy and you seem so, yourself.” She smiled as coyly as she could manage considering her lack of flirtation experience as she looked up at the man.

“Oh, course. I shift change next hour. If you’re near here, we can get a drink. I’d sure enjoy the company of a lady who knows how to use her hands.” Her inner voice groaned as she heard his proposal and she shuddered a little at the prospect of spending any more time than necessary around the one group she was trying to avoid. However, she had already figured out one thing, changes in patrols. A drink with the guy might get her and the squad more needed information. He didn’t seem to be using his upper brain very well, after all, which certainly gave her the upper hand.  She looked him up and down and pressed a hand to his chest, making sure to move her hips a bit more as she walked, then she let her smile widen.

“I’d love to, big guy. I do like a man in uniform.” Bernadette found herself mentally gagging at the words leaving her voice and she thanked the universe that no one could hear this exchange. The guard’s eyes lit up as he nodded and he grinned, looking pleased of himself.

“What can I call you, little lady?” He asked leaning toward her.  Bernadette racked her mind quickly, not anticipating this turn of events in the least.

“Suna” She said as quickly as she could, looking down coyly as if he had distracted her with his charm. It had been the name of a good friend of hers during her years in Hast, and it would do. He smiled at her and nodded saying his own name. His partner must have said something as he suddenly looked sheepish. He apologized quickly over the com and nodded at her moving along.
Bernadette turned to look at the trader once before moving along in the crowd, a slightly dazed look in her eyes. What just happened?

The Barabel had targeted the guard the moment he had shifted direction toward Zaria. The crosshairs remained on the guard's head the whole way, until he walked off. Vicious exhaled his held breath, a quiet hiss emanating from between gritted fangs. He opened a frequency to his ASL, again being unorthodox in his strategies.

"What did the human want?" Baraduk queried Zaria.

"I've got a shift change time.. I might be able to get information out of him" She responded. Baraduk's expression changed into what passed for a Barabel frown. Zaria seemed uncomfortable in the role of leadership, something she should not display to her troops. But she had been appointed that, so Baraduk would follow her as long as he had his orders. It did pain him, though. This was only his second mission and he was not used to being under someone else's command. he was used to being an independent. Baraduk changed his thoughts - back to the mission. Panning with his scope he could see several installations that were heavily guarded. Those were the communications array, what looked to be a bank, a barracks and a bunker of sorts. The most heavily guarded, however, was the main governmental building - much akin to a palace. Must be where the Governor is..

Baraduk relayed this information to Zaria, along with the patrols he could see. They were numerous but slack; not very observant of their surroundings but prone to pick on anyone they did notice. Such as the Barabel Vicious had seen ruthlessly slaughtered before. Barabels had good senses for situations, and Zal Baraduk could feel that the planet was ready for liberation from the ruler of this planet. Imperials weren't too lenient themselves, but as far as Zal could tell they were much better than the governor here. Zaria responded that she had received his overview. Shifting his gaze and scope, Baraduk picked up what seemed to be a large group of guards entering Zaria's location.

"Thizz izz Viciouzz.." He said over the comm, "Large number of guardzz are entering your vicinity. Thizz one recommendzz you get out, now."

Zaria again acknowledged - Zippy was far from where the commotion was, but Zal knew he would have heard his warning. The guards seemed to be rounding up most of the vendors and their clients. Switching his scope again, he picked up Zaria, inconspicuously making her way from the area. He focused again on the guards - they were quite a way from Zaria, not noticing her yet. They were, at present, focused on the vendors whom they were rounding toward the center. Zaria made it through what passed for an exit and flicked a glance over her shoulder.

No-one was pursuing her, fortunately. Zal exhaled slowly, watching as the crowd was gathered. He had an assumption as to the intention of the guards, but he hoped he was wrong. He gritted his fangs and commed the ASL again.

"Did thezze onezz come here to watch or come here to hunt? We cannot simply stand by while atrocitiezz occur" Zal hissed.. he was not happy at the guards.

It was the rustiest scrap of bolts he had ever driven. Internally, Skarr was scowling, but to alleviate Meteora’s fears somewhat, he kept a cheery demeanor. He hated the speeder already and wondered at the former pilot’s ability at keeping it fixed and working. The price he had payed for it even pained him, and he was tempted to find the former pilot and show him that Skarr was not amused. But there was a job to do, and it wasn’t like Skarr was going to keep the speeder anyway. In fact, he was half tempted to leave a thermal detonator beeping in the back seat as he walked away. That would probably scare Kaye to death though, and Skarr needed her.

As the speeder rattled to a stop, Skarr was reminded why he had never joined the Navy. This speeder felt like a TIE fighter ready to explode. He jumped out in disgust. They were only a few blocks away from the safe house now, and he would rather walk than draw even more attention to himself in the rusty speeder. Meteora climbed out hesitantly, shaking all over. Skarr settled a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

“You act like you’ve just gotten out of a firefight,” Skarr joked, “Come on, that was no more worse than the Kessel Run.”

“I’d rather face the black holes of the Kessel Run,” Meteora managed to murmur back. The squad leader smiled as they began walking. The area of the city they were in now was not particularly nice looking, nor did Skarr expect it to be. It was exactly the kind of area that a group of mercs would set up shop. He surmised that the governor would know they were on the planet now. Of course, once Eclipse never showed up for the meeting, Illium would be suspicious.

Let him be, Skarr thought. The governor had no idea about the safehouse Eclipse would be setting up. Nor did he know about their intentions to aide the rebellion aimed at taking down the sector government. It was certainly going to be a fun few weeks. The AHC had informed Skarr that this operation would be one of the longer ones. Either way, Skarr needed a safe house set up. Who knows when Eclipse would need to hole up for a while?

Finally the two of them found the house that the AHC had provided for them. It was two stories tall and a dark brown color. The outside of it looked well worn and the metal was well scratched. The house also looked like it had been unused of a while. Skarr looked at Kaye, who looked appalled at the state of the house.

“Home, sweet, home?” Skarr chuckled and keyed in the code to open the door. The first thing he was met with was a cobweb. He swept it aside in disgust and entered the room beyond slowly. It certainly had been undisturbed for a while. Everything was coated with a thin layer of dust and the air was stale from the continuous work of the air scrubbers. “Actually, never mind. This place sucks.” The first floor had a simple layout, there were no separate rooms, each area was just sectioned off with furniture. The kitchen area was sectioned off with a long counter in the corner, a few couches squared off a living area, and a desk was off to the side. Overall, it was not much space to work with. It would be a hell of a place to defend, but there was only one door and the windows were small and set high in the wall.

Meteora followed Skarr up the stairs to the second floor. Unlike the first floor, there were only two rooms in the upstairs. The first room was large and open, the second was what Skarr guessed to be the refresher. The first room contained less furniture than that of the second floor. There was merely two beds and a wardrobe. “Looks like we’ll be sleeping in shifts.” His gaze pulled to another door, it seemed to lead outside.

The squad leader walked over to the mystery door and keyed it open. Outside was a set of steps leading down to the street. It made things a little more complicated, but it was a double edged sword. It may be one more door to defend, but it could also be used as an escape route. Skarr hoped they would not have to use it.

“Well, Kaye,” Skarr started, “I think it’s time we got started. You think you can spruce this place up?”

“You clean, I’ll get the tech ready,” Meteora said. Skarr nodded, smiling. He was okay with that order.

The small ship rumbled through the atmosphere towards a landing dock. Balac sat, silently anticipating the coming mission. He'd returned from leave shortly after Eclipse had embarked on a mission. He'd subsequently been ushered out the door and onto this rusty junk-bucket and sent off after them. The mission intrigued him, and he was sure he would have more than his fill of enjoyment from it. Posing as a merc was something Balac would need little practice for.

"Landing in five," the pilot announced.

Balac checked his weapons. The EE-3 was familiar from his days before the VE, and the DE-10 holstered at his right hip was an abomination to his pride. Although he couldn't fault the ability of the weapon, it's popularity with the Mando Death Watch splinter group made it revolting to handle. The short vibro-sword across his back was sharp and practically begged to bite into something. The one thing in his arsenal that made him truly feel comfortable was his Mando-styled armor, regardless of the light durasteel that it was made of.

"Brace, landing." The crackle of the com system woke Balac out of his thoughts.

With the slight thump of the ship landing, Balac stood and headed toward the exit ramp. Once out of the ship, a guard stopped him.

"Another merc, hmph! And a Mando one to boot!" the guard spouted.

"A merc? No, I'm merely here on vacation. Sight-seeing only." Balac said caustically, staring down at the guard from behind his helmet.

"Ahh, sure. Well, in that case you can just pass right on through," The guard said with mock politeness, "Right that way."

Without another word, Balac left and headed into the city. He walked slowly, taking in the sights, as well as the stares from the surrounding crowds and the people hurrying out of his way. Walking through a bazaar, Balac headed towards one of the larger stands.

"You part of the group that came through earlier?" The vendor asked cautiously.

"Group?" Balac replied.

"Aye, had a Barabel with 'em! Nasty looking creature, heh!" spouted the portly vendor.

"Hmm, sounds like a fun bit of sport." Balac stated, throwing a hint of malice into his voice.

"Oh sure, go right ahead. Beast like that'd tear you limb from limb in a heartbeat!" The vendor laughed, "Went that way if you want to know."

"Indeed." Balac said quietly as he started walking away. Looking around he noticed a cantina. He walked up to it, slowly opening the door and walking in. The effect was near instantaneous. Those nearest the door fell into silence at the imposingly armed and armored figure in the doorway. Quickly, the silence spread. Once the whole place was silent, Balac slowly walked up to the bar. Once there, the bartender stared into his helmet's visage, a glimmer of fear sparking in his eyes as he took in the EE-3 set in the holster Balac had rigged for it across his chest.

"What do you want then?" The bartender queried.

"Depends. What do you offer?" Balac replied quietly. Turning slowly, he passed over the eyes of all in the room, slowly they looked away and the talking resumed. "Is a drink too much?" Balac asked when he returned his eyes to the bartender, "Something strong." The bartender busied himself, looking over a few drinks, deciding what could appease the Mando presence behind him.

A shot went off somewhere outside the cantina, Balac turned instantly towards the door, hand on the DE-10 at his hip. He started towards the door, ignoring the cries of the bartender offering his drink and demanding payment.

Some distance from the cantina, some guards were walking away from a large red-colored lump. Interesting, Balac thought.

Balac ran through the Eclipse roster again, looking over the current squad members, committing their features to memory.

A flash of auburn hair caught his attention. He followed the auburn hair, trying to get a glimpse of the face that was turned away from him. A tall man approached the woman from behind, Balac stopped and watched. Walking slowly, he moved to a spot that allowed him clear view of the woman, referencing with the roster as needed. After they exchanged words, they went separate ways. Balac followed the woman. Certain that she was one of the people he was looking for; he stayed at a distance until he could approach her carefully.

A commotion caught his attention. A large number of guards were entering the area, interrupting business and herding the vendors towards the center. Balac turned his attention back to Bernadette, a flicker of annoyance flashing through him as he realized she had disappeared. Quickly he found her, heading out an exit. With a quick look over her shoulder she headed away and disappeared completely. Balac made his way towards the same exit. Disappointment and annoyance flashed through him.

Ok, tied myself into the story. If I've made any mistakes, let me know. I've found Bernadette then lost her. I've followed her in an attempt to find her again. So far I'm just shadowing her in an attempt to find the whole squad together before I make contact.

Walking around the city was starting to get boring real fast. The constant crowds, getting shoved every time you tried to move. It was as if they were purposely trying to piss him off. He looked around for the nearest vendor when something caught his eye. Three guards were looking as if they were harassing one of the aliens that were visiting the planet. He decided to get in for a closer look and to see if he could over hear their conversation without being seen. Even getting over to them was a chore. Zippy had to push his way through people, including a few vendors who had the sudden urge to get in his face to try to sell him things. After pushing many people aside, he managed to duck behind a few storage containers by a larger shopping center to over hear the conversation.

"Alright, listen hear you worthless cur. Its bad enough I'm stuck on duty in this crowded place full of idiots. You better not be lying to me when you say you don't recognize this person," one of the guards said in a rage at the defenseless civilian.

"I'm telling you the truth sir! I swear it! I've never seen that person in my life! I'm only hear to shop and go sight seeing with my family!"

"You better hope you're right you alien scum! Now get out of my sight before I change my mind about letting you go!" The trooper screamed out in rage.

Zippy looked at the picture as closely as he could. He quickly noticed it was a picture of himself. They hadn't even been here for that long and he had already gotten himself seen by someone there. He knew he was going to have to get that picture from the guard before copies were made. With it being so soon, that had to be the only copy he figured. Noticing the guard rolled up the piece of paper and put it in his back pocket, it was the perfect way to get it off the guard. Using the think crowd for cover, it would more then likely be fairly easy to get the paper from the guard he figured.

"Alright, I need to time this just right. When the guards begin to move into the crowds, I will need to be quick to get the paper off of him without raising any suspicion. Ah, there he goes now. Alright, this is my chance," Zippy said to himself.

Zippy quickly ducked into the think crowd and followed the guards as they continued their patrol through the city. Noticing they were beginning to break a part, he followed the one that he knew was the captain and the one holding his portrait. He was shocked that someone had even managed to get his picture already and gotten in the guards here so quickly. More then likely one of the vendor security camera's.

"Heh. Now that I think about it. They didn't even get my good side. The least they could do was get a good portrait of me," Zippy joked to himself.

Noticing now that the guard stopped at one of the vendors to purchase some food, he moved in as quickly and as discreetly as he could move. Grabbing the paper off the guard, he vanished into the think crowd. Turning around, he noticed the guard radioing in to  his superiors in a rage. He was glad to see he managed to get the copy before it got out of hand and posters started appearing all over the city. The last thing they needed was a large, city wide search out to get him. Not mention the fact that if even one of them were to be captured, all of their cover would be blown and it would put the mission at serious risk. This was something Zippy was not going to allow to happen to his squad.

"Alright then. I'm going to have to be leery of people even more now around here. Any one of these people could be a spy for these ignorant guards, and we need to be as discreet as we possibly can. I hope Bernadette and the rest of the squad is doing well," Zippy said to himself in a concerned voice.

His concern for his squad mates was something he took to heart, and getting back in contact soon was going to be a priority before to long.

"Lets just hope no one has gotten themselves into trouble. I would hate to have to save someone already before the mission has even started. Especially the newbies. I'm watching them with great care and would hate for them to get into trouble," Zippy said, chuckling at the thought.

With that thought in mind, he realized he needed to have a little more faith in his team. His concern was admirable, but they could handle themselves. They wouldn't be in his squad if they couldn't and they needed the practice anyway. He was sure they were doing just fine. Zippy smiled at the thought. This was what he loved. His squad mates. They were all he needed. As he continued to think, he sat down at a nearby bench and awaited to hear from his team.

Now that they'd reached the house in one piece, most of Kaye's anxiety had dissipated; replaced with a growing sense of anticipation. The competitive, mechanically inclined aspect of her mind was anxious to get started on tricking out the safe-house. It had occurred to her while she and Skarr had toured the house that making it even decently defensible was going to be a conundrum, but Kaye didn't mind. Puzzles were what she lived for. Leave the hard-ass front line bullshit to the testosterone junkies, this was her element.

The first step, she'd decided, was to organize her thoughts. After all, she'd never actually set-up a safe house before.

Kaye tossed her duffel bag aside and knelt down so that she could go through it. As she dug through the bag of goodies, a mental image of her mother flitted through her mind's eye. She'd always been annoyed by Kaye's eagerness to get dirty, and if she could have seen her daughter kneeling down on one knee on a floor that was utterly caked with dust, the woman would have had a heart attack. The thought made Kaye grin.

Kaye found what she was looking for and pulled it out of the duffel bag with relish. She'd been itching for a chance to use the object ever since she'd won it off a navy crewman in a game of sabaac. At first she'd felt bad about cheating to win the game, but once she found out that the object was obsolete, that the crewman was going to toss it anyway, all sense of guilt faded away to be replaced with vindication. She hated wasting things.

The object was contained in a navy blue dura-plastic cube that was roughly a foot long on every side. The box was smooth and completely unmarked, sans the word “top” stenciled in white on one side of the cube, two steel-grey hinges on the back of the box that split it in to two hemispheres, and a keypad organized into a row of glowing green numbers on a black surface that marked the front side. Kaye poked each of the numbers in an ordered fashion with her index finger until a dull click resonated from the box. Now unlocked, she held it open with one hand while using the other to scoop out the box's contents from its foam-snugged pocket.

She clutched the small sphere in the palm of her hand and held it up so that she could examine it for any traveling damage. Despite being undamaged, the sphere's texture was rough and craggy, bearing a resemblance to the spongy turf one would find on a playground. It was completely black except for a chrome strip that traveled around the entirety of its circumference, and four matching inch-long studs that jutted diagonally out from the sphere's bottom to act as its “legs”.

“Up you go, Pear.” Kaye said softly, pressing a thumb against the chrome strip. After four seconds of contact, the spy-droid identified her thumb print and hummed to life, hovering off the ground until it was level with her face. Kaye stood to her feet and rolled up the sleeve on her left arm, where a small data-pad was strapped to her wrist. She repeated the same thumb-print recognition ritual on the datapad until it came to life with streaming data on its touch-screen, then tapped the blinking “sync” command that had appeared on the right hand corner of the datapad's display. A matching icon began to blink on the chrome strip lining Pear's casing, signifying that the datapad was syncing up with the spy-droid's output systems, and after several seconds the word “sync complete” appeared on both devices.

An 8x8 2-D hologram sprouted up above the datapad. It showed an exact rendition of whatever Pear was looking at, and originally had a lag of roughly .83 seconds before Kaye had managed to tweak it down to a more acceptable .22, the closest to real-time she'd get with the resources at her disposal.

The droid was focused on Kaye, and she couldn't help but grin sheepishly at her reflection. Before joining the military, her honey-blonde hair had dangled down to the small of her back in neat rows of curly tresses. Now it hung down to just past her chin in a mass of unkempt shagginess, emphasizing the hard angles of her face and how it contrasted with her past life of nobility. Her gaunt features, combined with the sharp glint in her aqua-green eyes, served to convey the aura of a warrior-princess.

At least in appearance, if not practice. Her incompetence during the last mission, her first, still stung at Kaye like an untreated har-bung bite. That none of her comrades or commanding officers had chastised her for it rankled even more. Since their extraction from Liberty Station, Kaye had been mentally steeling herself for the moment when Skarr decided that the time was right to lay into her for her poor performance during the mission. So far he'd neglected to do so, and Kaye wasn't sure if that bothered her due to some subconscious belief that he was just biding his time, or if her guilt simply wanted him to do it. Either way, she'd felt uneasy around him ever since.

Kaye fiddled with the small toggle attached to the side of her datapad, making Pear jerk back and fourth in the air. She'd designed the toggle to allow her to remote-control Pear's movements, though the rough movement of the droid indicated that the controls needed further calibrating. That'd be something to do during the slow hours.

Focused on the task at hand once more, Kaye opened the door to the front of the house and maneuvered Pear through it. Once outside, she positioned the droid so that it was high enough in the air that looking down would provide a bird's eye view of the house and the surrounding neighborhood.

The house made squeaking sounds as Skarr moved through it, but Kaye paid no attention, now completely involved in her task. The house's rear entrance led to a small backyard, overgrown with weeds, garbage, and whatever crap the locals who were too poor to afford a dumpster decided to dump in there. It was framed by a simple chain-link fence. Kaye couldn't tell for sure, but she suspected that the fence was probably too old to be much of a deterrent to any determined trespasser, so she'd consider it a hole in their defenses to be plugged. The safe-house was hugged on the sides by identical houses, with just enough space in-between them for a single person to walk through. Kaye tried to remember if she'd noticed any windows on the side of the house. None on the first floor for sure, but she wasn't sure about the second floor. She lowered Pair down into one of the crevices between the safe-house and its neighbor.

With a dull thud, the droid smacked against a drain-pipe lining the roof, making her wince.

“Not a pro yet...” She muttered. She'd have to be more careful, lest she break the damn thing.

She checked the opposite end of the house and was met with the same result. So that wasn't something she'd have to worry about, at least. That left the roof and the most obvious entrance: the front door.

Kaye glanced at the kitchen in the corner of the room. Even if the plumbing no longer worked, the house presumably had hot water at some point. In most houses, the heating unit could be found in the basement or attic. She didn't remember her squad leader mentioning either, though.

“Skarr!” She yelled at the ceiling. There was silence for a few moments, then she heard his voice.

“Is there an attic or anything in this house?” She said, loud enough for him to hear her through the floor. “Any place where you could store crap?” In the few seconds it took him to reply, her thoughts consolidated what she already knew. The two doors leading into the house were a priority. The first thing she’d do is change the access codes to the doors’ locks. Once that was done, she’d start working on more “sophisticated” defenses. She shivered, excited, and hoped that Skarr wouldn't disapprove of her future shenanigans. Anyone stupid enough to try to infiltrate their safe house was in for a galaxy of hurt.

Zaria moved quickly through the crowd trying to seem insignificant, another mercenary among the many traders trying to make a living out of the hands of the empire.  She stopped at another stall looking over a set of scarves and what looked like shackles with a look of mock intrigue. From afar she noted a familiar figure. She had seen him before but….where?

Her obsidian eyes looked past him as if she had not noticed and then she casually turned back to the scarves. The trader made a few offers to her which she shook her head at remarking at the price with a slightly louder voice than him. Hast was a manufacturing planet but haggling had been one of the first things her mother had taught her.

What Vicious had said ran through her mind and rang. The guards were up to something but…what? She looked around as casually as she could from where the vendor was attempting to raise Zaria’s price with a few angry gestures.

“Vicious, stand down.  We have a mission here and currently that is to gather information, I will not have it jeopardized. Their time will come soon enough but for now we have to remain quiet. “She pretended to mutter to herself shaking her head at the vendor as she spoke to Vicious.

A thought came to her as she looked up among the traders; her hair was a dead giveaway for her. It had first caught that guard, Cale’s, eye she was sure. He had looked over her face first before the rest of her. After all there were few people around here that were both female and who had hair like her. She settled on a price, substantially lower than the original for a simple grey and brown scarf, noting that it was the major color around these parts. She passed some money to the trader without letting him argue and he laughed a little in amusement telling her she drove a hard bargain. She smiled at him easily and continued to move through the crowd, her skin crawling as she looked around searching for the figure. Who was he? What did he want?

Zaria slipped into the crowd again, hunching over a little and sliding the scarf over her head, she looked a few inches shorter now and she moved a little more briskly imitating the walk she remembered her mother using when she went to market.

“Skarr, anything to report? Something is wrong around here the guards are moving in quickly on some of these people. Vicious has a visual but he’s antsy for a fight. “Zaria stopped to glance back once more, the crowd was thinning. She needed to find a place to lay low for now. Her skin was crawling and she felt the pain of the tense muscles around her shoulders.  While she waited for a response she slipped in between two stalls leaning against a wall as If catching her breath as she looked out on the crowd from behind the vendor. Her heart was thumping, she realized, her breathing was more ragged than she thought it had been.

This was the first time that she had been without her squad since she had joined the Crops and she realized that she felt more than vulnerable without them. Perhaps it was the sense of being on the unfamiliar planet with nothing but the knives and pistol under her jacket but there was something about all the excitement in the short amount of time. Zaria bit her lip before taking a deep breath and moving away from the wall to stand.  A crowd of guards ran past and she moved closer to the shadows that the stalls around her where throwing noting the sudden tension and fear in the air from the vendors around her. They had been pleasant enough, in that commercial kind of way as she had moved among them. Now they all stood still avoiding the eyes of the guards and focusing intently on their tasks. It seemed as though this was something regular.

Ebony eyes darted over the guards walking past her as they asked a female vendor a few stalls down about something. When she shook her head they screamed grabbing hold of her shirt and pulling her up. Zaria clenched her fists and unconsciously reached for her pistol. A whimper distracted her and she looked down to a small alien child hiding behind the stall to her left. He was shaking as he tried to remain quiet and her look softened a bit. She looked up to the vendor of the stall to her left who only half turned to the child and hushed him still watching the guards  cautiously.

Zaria let her hold on the pistol loosen as she realized that here, unlike in the Empire this was a normal thing. They lived in fear of those who were meant to protect them and they lived knowing that each day those same people could turn on them. Her stomach churned as she watched the guards throw the woman vendor to the ground knocking some of her wares to the floor and walking off. At least she was still living.  Her fingers were digging into her palm she realized. Time to go, Zaria she thoughts to herself. Time had passed quickly. She would meet Cale at the designated bar and she would see what information she could get out of him. This planet needed them more than she had thought, they needed the Empire.  Her legs trembled just a bit as she moved back out into the crowd, she had work to do, and the fury to do it well.

Vicious frowned as Zaria entered the cantina. He could not see her, and therefore could not protect her should she get into trouble with the guard she was intending to pry for information. His instincts said something was wrong, and he panned the sights with his scope. Alarm bells began ringing when the Barabel's sharp eyes picked out a Mandalorian entering the same cantina. He looked like a dangerous figure, one to be watched..

But Zal Baraduk would not be able to see or protect Zaria from the dangerous looking Mandalorian while she was inside the cantina. He zoomed in on the entrance, before panning the area once more to make sure it was clear. It was, and Vicious commed Zaria.

"Thizz one spotted a Mandalorian entering your cantina.. he may have ill intentzz." He hissed through his teeth. Zaria acknowledged, stating that she had got what she needed and that she was leaving now. He spotted the door opening, and Zaria exiting the cantina, moving away from a gathered crowd and toward a square about 500 meters away.

Zal could see everything perfectly - this was the tallest building for miles, and the streets were pretty wide, affording him an excellent view. Sure enough, the Mandalorian emerged shortly after, looking around frustratedly before his eyes obviously locked on Zaria. He began to tail her, keeping his distance. He was a professional. But even a professional wouldn't know that they had a Barabel sniper targeting them. Without further ado, Zal commed Zippy.

"There izz a Mandalorian following Zaria.." He told the lance-corporal "Thizz one recommendz you link up with and tail the Mandalorian.."

"Roger that, Vicious. Where is she now?" Came the quick reply, in a slightly concerned tone.

"She iz heading east from the cantina, towardzz a large square.. the Mandalorian is almost one hundred meterzz behind her.." Zal told him as he took note of the area. He could just see Zippy sitting on a bench about 600 meters to the south of where Zaria was. "Head north immediately and you will see the Mandalorian.."

"Thanks Vicious. I'm heading out now." Zippy responded. Zal then commed Zaria and told her what he'd told Zippy. She clicked her comm once and continued walking, not fast but not slow. She was pretty good at playing the casual merc. The guards were forming up, having realised that none of their targets were within the perimeter and were extending their search. Baraduk growled. Fortunately, he was undisturbed up in his perch, and would most likely remain so. Unless someone was coming to check on the mercenary. Even so, they'd have to hack the door to get in and that would provide Zal ample time to get ready for them. He would tear any intruders to pieces.

Zal Baraduk did not deliberately seek out excuses to kill, or kill out of hand. But if it were more efficient to kill, then he would kill without hesitation. If it was him or the enemy, he would kill the enemy. He was a born killer, a hunter, and he took pride in that fact. He was supremely confident because he knew there were few out there that could match a Barabel - fewer still that could match a Barabel armed. Baraduk was not only an armed Barabel, he was a professional bounty hunter with years of experience, a knowledgeable commander and now a trained soldier of the Vast Empire. To put it simply, Zal "Vicious" Baraduk was a dangerous individual.

He could see Zippy making his way toward Zaria's path and the following Mandalorian, looking casual enough as he wove his way through people and obstacles alike - usually one and the same. The guards had begun to spread out, and they had a holo of what seemed to be.. a Barabel. An armoured Barabel. A 2.2 meter, black scaled Barabel. It was Zal. So much for him being on the street. They also had a holo of Zaria, but there was mysteriously no holo of Zippy. Luckily enough, Zal's armour had specific stealth capabilities, so he could effectively disappear when he needed to.

He was not sure the same could be said for Zaria. She wasn't exactly heavily outfitted. Neither was Zippy. He moved his sights back to the Mandalorian, who at a glance was going for leisurely stroll along the streets, but on closer inspection proved to be following someone. He was good alright, he stopped now and again, keeping Zaria inconspicuously in his view and making sure he himself was not being followed. Zal wondered how effective Zippy was at following, and if he'd scare off Zal's quarry.

He shouldn't have any misgivings about his squadmates, but Baraduk was not sure of how good they really were. He'd seen them in action, but not enough to judge their skill. They were all above him in rank and therefore deserving of significant credit, but Zal would need to see them for himself to trust them completely to watch his back.

"Slana'pir!" Balac nearly roared in annoyance. He'd taken his helmet off and had been beset by a small group of desperate locals, offering different types of 'stylish' headwear. Under the cold fury in his voice and his piercing gaze, they wisely moved from the Mandalorian's path. The interaction cost him time, distance, and sight of the woman he had confirmed as Eclipse's new ASL.

Replacing his helmet, he continued in the direction he'd last seen her moving. Having covered her hair, she became practically invisible in this crowd. Balac thought about this with some degree of disappointment. She might be his only way to link up with the squad. He put the thought out of his mind; he'd find his squad, or at least Skarr sooner or later. He hoped it was soon; there was a veritable lack of Mandalorians, or at least armored ones, anywhere in sight. The quicker he could get some cover, the better.

The prickling instinct of being watched arose within him once again, mingling with possible understanding of just why she might have hidden herself.

"Damn!" Balac muttered to himself. The vendor's remark of a small group flashed through his mind. He'd forgotten about the other two in the excitement. He hadn't seen the Barabel, so he assumed he was watching from a safe place, or, more likely, guarding whatever safe house they might have in the city. That left the other as a more likely prospect to be nearby. If she knew she was being followed, it was likely Balac was being followed himself in the attempt. Of course, perhaps she simply wanted to be less visible, but things usually weren't simple with professionally trained military personnel.

Balac exited the crowd, walking along the outside, looking over the mass of people to try to catch a glimpse of her. There! Among the throng of people, approximately 50 meters away, a small group of people accidentally bumped into a woman. A flash of her auburn hair appeared as the scarf was tugged out of place before being hidden once more as she quickly replaced the scarf over her head. With a quick, easy look around her, as if to see who had bumped into her, she continued walking away.

"Ah, good." Balac sighed appreciatively. Hastily, he set off after her again. The throng of people seemed to thicken. Every person he couldn't dodge seemed to purposely bounce off his armor; seemingly unaware of the imposing figure it showed. A thick pocket of civilians forced Balac to change his course. Cutting around them, he continued his pursuit, searching for the figure he was following, only to find she had disappeared.

After a steady string of expletives in Mando'a, Balac let out a long breath in frustration.

The redhead ASL of Eclipse moved as casually as she could, licking her lips as her nerves tore at her. A Mandalorian following her? Was their cover blown? Where they already aware of the Empire’s presence…she shuddered a little at the thought and help the scarf around her head a little tighter in the front. Her mind raced through possibilities as she heard Vicious speak to her once more.  She thought about calling Skarr on the com but something nagged at her, he had put her in charge here for a reason…she needed to take matters into her own hands even if she didn’t want to.

“Is he still tailing me, Vicious” Zaria let her voice sound calm enough as she moved through the crowd, her hand slipped casually into her pocket and she felt for her knife there.  Another casual move had the knife concealed in the palm of her hand as she waited for an answer.

“Yes, he izz following some 50 feet behind.” The answer was abrupt and Zaria muttered a curse she turned, as if to look casually at the stall, and someone hit her throwing the scarf from her head. Another curse came from her as she quickly covered her bright hair and looked around.  She bit her lip thinking carefully over the situation.

They were undercover and if anyone was to pose a threat to that they needed to take care of it but how to take care of the Mandalorian? Zaria looked up ahead toward where the stalls and crowd nearly hid an alleyway these people were no strangers to violence…perhaps they could. She nodded a little to herself as she turned to look to one of the stalls holding a variety of weaponry. Her ebony eyes searched over the crowd easily before she spoke into the comlink once more.

“Zippy, Vicious I need you both to come close to the Mandalorian, I may not be able to do much on my own but I think the three of us can take care of him…or at least find out what he wants. I’m going into an alley ahead, I’ll face him there but Zippy I need you to follow and close up behind him. Vicious, I need you to stay hidden for a bit, if things get nasty you’ll be our backup. Is that understood?” To her surprise her voice sounded much more confident than she felt and her grip on the knife tightened. Her legs carried her easily through the crowd as she moved toward the alley as if trying to escape the crowd.

“Got it, Bernadette, you sure you know what you’re doing?” Zippy responded quickly enough trying as always to lighten the mood just a bit and a smile reached her lips making her calm a little as she responded telling him she had a pretty clear idea. She let the scarf fall once more as if she was confident no one would follow her into the alley as she reached its mouth.

“Thizz one is not so sure, but thizz one will do as he is told” Vicious spoke calmly but there was something of near frustration in his voice. Zaria knew enough about his species to understand why; he was a hunter, not used to staying away from the enemy but instead facing them head on.  However, he was their best bet in case things got ugly. Hopefully the Mandalorian wasn’t expecting all of them at once; he seemed intent on her after all. But for what?

Zaria entered the mouth of the alley and walked quickly noting the conveniently placed crates, probably some merchandise from one of the vendors, which could provide some cover if nothing else for her if worse came to worse. She let a lightly tanned hand run over one of the crates hearing the soft crunch of footsteps behind her as she stopped moving.  Ebony eyes turned as her shoulders tensed all the more making her straighten. Her fingers moved slowly to her hip, where her pistol waited in her holster.

Zaria turned fully as the Mandalorian moved easily through the alley toward her. Dark eyes looked him over quickly noting any distinguishing features as her pistol left its holster and she pointed it at him. She heard another set of footsteps and an odd feeling of relief filled her as Zippy came into the alley his own weapon in hand and ready. Vicious spoke to her over the comlink confirming that he was in position and yet again a wave of relief flooded her. She hoped her features hadn’t reveled as much as she spoke for the first time to the unknown figure who had been following her. Zippy ran closer moving in so he’d have a clear shot of the offending figure if need be.

“Stop now and I won’t shot that helmet right off your head…unless you don’t answer my questions well enough” Zaria heard herself almost as if from a distance or a dream interested by the authority in her voice. The Mandalorian didn’t stop his movement and she let her finger pull the trigger of pistol shooting at the ground a few feet in front of him. He paused as if in interest. “Who are you, what do you want?”

Her eyes flickered slightly to Zippy who was shifting almost nervously and then behind him toward the mouth of the alley. For the first time since setting foot on the planet she was thankful for the mess of it. Had it not been for that, the sound of fire might have attracted more attention. Thankfully the guards had left this area too…though even so, they probably had no more than a few minutes to take care of this before having to move on. Her eyes followed the seemingly hostile being in front of her even as she unconsciously shifted into a stance learned in the academy. Zaria felt the tension in the air for a moment and her grip on the pistol tightened as she waited and hoped that this would work for the better.  At least the better of her Squad and the Empire.

OOC:
So I left this one a little open ended for whoever wants to post to let more or less happen. We're in an alley close enough to the vendors for cover and just far enough for them to leave us alone for now. Guards may or may not take notice of our little band of 'mercenaries' that will be left up to you guys. Take it away boys!

Skarr had decided to work in the upstairs of the house while Meteora worked her magic on the first floor. He had cleaned the first floor already, so the second floor was all that needed to be done. He had cleared off the furniture of dust and was now sweeping. The damn thing was so dusty. A cloud of dust billowed up, which was immediately sucked up into Skarr’s lungs as he inhaled. The cloud set upon him a fit of coughing.

After the coughing had finished, he stood and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was just getting back to sweeping when he heard Kaye call up from the first floor. The squad leader bent down closer to the floor.

“Yeah?” he called back.

“Is there an attic or anything in this house?” yelled Meteora, “Any place where you could store crap?” He waited for a few seconds before he replied, thinking. He certainly had not seen any sign of either an attic or a basement.

“Give me a minute or two,” he yelled back. Skarr fished in his pocket for his datapad. A light was blinking on the corner of it. A few quick button presses and he found out what they were. Messages had been left on the datapad, including a few messages that had been sent through his comm. Skarr had set his comm to forward all messages to his datapad, but neither device had indicated it had messages. He growled a little, low in his throat.. Damned tech, never works when you need it to.

Most of the messages were from Bernadette. She had sent various status reports and questions to him. They worried him to be sure. The messages concerned an increased police activity in the area and it sounded like they were looking for Eclipse. Skarr grimaced at this piece of news. That piece of shit governor found out, eh? There was nothing that could be done about that. He also found several messages from Jayce Rayder, the leader of the Loreth uprising. Skarr took the time to peruse them as well.

The only message that made him happy was the one he received from the Army High Command. They were sending him an old friend. One armored in Mandalorian pride and armor both. Truly one of Skarr’s closest friends. It would be good to have him on the squad again.

Finally, Skarr found what he was looking for. When they had bought the house, the AHC had also sent the blueprint along as well. He pored over the message looking for some kind of storage space. Meteora was still working on the first floor when he came down the steps.

“Find something?” Kaye asked, a sound of delight in her voice. She was doing something she loved and Skarr was glad for that. Kaye had not taken to battle very well, preferring the more technical aspect of the operations and the battlefield. Skarr wanted to utilize her skills as best as possible, but she would have to learn to do better in battle. Sometimes, there was no avoiding the fight.

Skarr nodded pensively, “There’s supposedly a maintenance hatch leading down to a basement floor. We haven’t noticed it because the couch is sitting on top of it.” He walked over to one of the couches and pushed it to the side. True enough, there was a small trapdoor in the floor. Leaning over, Skarr grabbed the handle and pulled it up. Lights came up from the hole. It must have a sensor, the young man thought. He climbed down the ladder to examine the basement level and found that he had to stoop a little to avoid bumping his head. The space was not much, nothing more than a permacrete box in the ground. There was only a few of the essentials down in the basement. A heating and cooling unit, some pipes, but nothing more than that.

The squad leader climbed back out of the hole. It was not much, but it was at least a space for Meteora to use. She smiled and expressed her thanks as she went back to work. There was a small droid hovering around her as well. Skarr was about to ask why, but shook his head and closed his mouth. Soon...soon they would all have to regroup. There was real work to be had on this planet. He only hoped Meteora hurried and the rest of his squad stayed safe.

The patter of footsteps alerted Balac to a new presence behind him. He kept his focus on the woman in front of him as her pistol gave silent warning to keep his distance. Balac took another slow step.

"Stop now and I won't shoot that helmet right off your head... unless you don't answer my questions well enough."

Balac noted the authoritative tone in her voice. He took another step, halting as the pistol flashed, a black spot appeared, accompanied by a sizzle and some smoke as the earth burned. He looked at the ground, then back to her.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" She spoke again.

Authority, the willingness to use it, and a decent warning... Balac smiled to himself.

"Now, now." He spoke, giving a mock bow. "That's not the best way to treat a friend." Slowly he spread his arms away from his sides and held them out in a gesture of ease.

A look of stunned surprise, replaced by guarded curiosity flashed across her face.

"A friend?" Bernadette asked. "I'm sure you have the wrong person."

Balac turned slowly, looking at the figure behind him as he answered. "No, I'm sure I'm right. You are Lance Corporal Bernadette, Assistant Squad Leader of Eclipse under Skarr, correct?" As he caught the face of the figure behind him he gave a greeting, "Hello, Zippy."

He turned back, awaiting her answer. He could detect carefully covered surprise playing on her face as the information he gave settled in.

"If we're so familiar, how about a name from you... and a very good explanation of how you know who we are." Calm determination, as well as authority sounded in her command.

"Oh, of course. Sergeant Balac, recently returned from leave and sent to rejoin Eclipse squad. The information is on my datapad."

With Zippy covering the exchange, he handed his 'pad to Zaria. She read it quickly, sending an occasional look towards him.

"This could have been faked, and you could be an assassin." She said once she was done reading.

"What would that serve? If I wanted any of you dead, I would've attempted something by now. If I wanted you alive but incapacitated, we wouldn't be talking." Balac retorted. Behind him, Zippy gave an incredulous snort.

Zaria tried again, "You could be after Skarr, or simply reporting on our movements."

"Technically, I am after Skarr, to report in. As for spying on you, I wouldn't have sought an audience with you if I was." Balac shot back.

"Why didn't you simply try contacting me on the com?" She asked suspiciously.

"Good question. Two answers. First, a stranger barging in on a com channel doesn't strike me as something you'd have responded kindly too. Secondly... faulty transmitter; I can receive, but I can't send anything until I have the chance to fix it. Contact Skarr, I'm sure he'll be happy to hear from me."

"Alright, let's move. You're being watched, so behave." Zaria warned.

"Happy to hear it," Balac retorted lightly, "I'll be on my best behavior."

"Just move. Outside this alley, we'll spread out, keep within sight of each other."

With Zaria talking softly into her com, they moved back towards the mouth of the alley.

To Kaye it had felt like she'd only been working for several minutes, such was the intensity of her focus. The reality was it had been closer to several hours. Her tinkering had taken her from the small hideaway Skarr had revealed in the living room to the backyard, all the way around the sides of the house and then to its front. Kaye had just finished testing the camera systems when she'd decided to take a break and review her progress.

Hands on her hips, she took several steps back and surveyed the front of the house. At a glance, it looked exactly like a normal house, much to her smugness. It had taken a bit of creativity to set everything up so that one wouldn't recognize the various traps and set-ups, but she'd managed to do it; or at least, she was pretty sure she had.

Her last action had been to set up fields of vision that covered as much of the house as possible. While Kaye would have preferred something kickass like motion detector systems or full-spectrum scanning, a good old fashioned camera system was the most tech she'd had access to prior to shipping out. She had four camera lenses, obsolete tech like most of the stuff she was working with, but still more than adequate for the job at hand. Each lense was roughly an inch long and shaped like a half-circle, with the flat coated in an all-weather adhesive that allowed the lense to stick to flat surfaces. Each lense was able to see in low-light environments as well during normal time, and the most convenient thing about them to Kaye was that they could be programmed to stream to her datapad, much like Pear. The lenses were, again, obsolete tech compared to the newer stuff- most of which was capable of seeing in more types of formats like infrared, but the ones she had worked fine for her.

Kaye had set each of the cameras on a variety of walls and outcroppings that surrounded the safe house, giving her an uninhibited view of every angle of the house. She could see people as they approached the front door, or tried to sneak in from the back or the sides. Each lense had a battery life of roughly six days. Decent, but Kaye had decided to not take any chance, and had therefore decided to hook them up to permanent power sources by wiring them into the various light fixtures that dotted the perimeter of the house.

Beyond that, she’d also installed several of her detpacks around the house. One in the main entrance, attached to the back of the front door, one attached to the rear door in a similar manner, and finally one in the most important place of all: next to the water heating unit. The last detpack was reserved for only the most dire of circumstances, and internally she was worried about if Skarr would approve. The heating/cooling unit in a house as old as the one they were was one of the most dangerous and obsolete kinds you could have. The detpack’s explosion combined with heating units would be enough to level half the living room. The extremism of it was not lost on Kaye, but she’d justified it as a failsafe in case the house was compromised. The compartment was just enough to fit all their weapons and insignia. Assuming they weren’t able to hold the house, they’d be able to torch the evidence of which organization they belonged too.
She’d done simple things aside from that; she’d managed to change the door’s codes and had also repaired the house’s fridge.

All in all, Kaye was pleased with herself. She’d been productive, and had managed to do so without getting knee deep in shit like her squadmates were undoubtedly doing.

Hands still on hips, Kaye was about to march back into the house when she heard a repulsor-lift come to a stop behind her. Turning around slowly, Kaye found herself face to face with a tall Twi’lek man in a leather jacket. Kaye felt her bowels spasm involuntarily when she realized that the vest and the speederbike the Twi-’ek was straddling bore the insignia of the planet’s police force. The guy was a flurking cop!

“Ma’am.” The Twi’lek said with a polite nod. Kaye put on her most winning smile, wondering internally why he hadn’t slammed some cuffs on her and dragged her down the street. Hadn’t he noticed her gun, or even Pear? She realized that he hadn’t, of course. her weapons were still on the floor next to her duffel bag in the house. Pear, on the other hand...

“What I can do for you, Officer?” She said sweetly, her eyes flickering up for just a fraction of a moment, just enough to confirm that the spy droid was hovering a mere two or three stories right above the Twi’eks! Mentally, she willed the pig to not look up.

“Hasn’t been no one in this house for some time now.” He said, inclining his head at the safe-house.

“Yeah, well, it’s got someone in it now.” She said. “We’re new to neighborhood.”

“We?” The Officer said, looking over her shoulder at the house. “Someone else is here.”

Thinking fast, Kaye shrugged. “Just my... husband. He’s upstairs... cleaning out the second floor.”

“I see.” The cop said, and then thought quietly to himself. By the twentieth second, Kaye was irritated. The flurking guy had ruined her concentration on the house. The least he could do was leave immediately and never come back ever. Luck didn’t seem to be on Kaye’s side though.

“Well, welcome to the neighborhood.” The Officer said finally.

“Why thank you!” Kaye said, gushing. “I want it to stay clean as possible!” It was hard for her to sound so jubilant constantly.

“Of course, of course.” Said the officer, waving his hand dismissively. “By the by, could I see your husband, please?”

Though Kaye didn’t show it, her sphincter had possibly propped her up again.

“Um.... sure.” She said, turning around and heading back to the house. Maybe Skarr would have a plan.”

“Skarr!” She yelled once she was in the house and away from the officer. “We’ve got company, law enforcement, and they think you’re my Husband..” She said, grinning sheepishly at the last part of her statement.

“Dammit,” Norith Skarr growled. Law enforcement was one of the worst things that could have been at the door. They were an inquisitive lot and they were hard to lie to. With Eclipse’s cover as mercenaries breaking apart, lying to the officer was going to be even more difficult. He grabbed a jacket from the bed where he had been laying out supplies. The hem of the jacket would hide the blasters at his back as well as the knife at his side. He stalked over to the steps and poked his head down.

“Why was I never informed? Did you drug me? I think you drugged me,” Skarr called down. Kaye giggled from her position near the door. The squad leader made his way down the stairs, taking deep breaths. Making the officer go away would be a feat. He draped an arm over Kaye’s shoulders as he opened the door. The Twi’lek looked up from his datapad to look Skarr over.

Norith smiled brightly, “What can I do you for, officer?”

The officer shrugged slightly, “I was just checking up. I seen that the house was occupied. Hasn’t been that way for a long while. You getting settled alright, Mr...?”

Thoughts flashed through Skarr’s mind. He hadn’t thought of any names. Finally, he settled on a cover he had used long ago, during his first mission. “Avarez. And yes, everything is going fine.”

“Mr. Avarez.” The Twi’lek’s head tails twitched slightly. There was a long pause as the officer continued to look around curiously. Just go away, Skarr thought, we’re trying to topple a government here! He shifted impatiently, moving his arm slightly on Meteora’s shoulders. He could feel how tense she was, like a coiled spring.

After what seemed like several minutes, the officer nodded, “Let me know if you need anything.” He shuffled away back to his police speeder. Skarr sighed in relief as he dropped his arm from around Kaye and closed the door. His fingers came up to rub the bridge of his nose. For a moment, Skarr was fearful that the officer would pry even more. He was not sure if he would have the right answers for the officer.

Grey eyes lifted to settle on Kaye, “Thanks for bringing me on that one.” He stuck his tongue out at the young woman. She shrugged and began gathering more materials. From what Skarr had seen, the house was almost done. There would always be some work to be done though, he was sure. The young man was not very mechanically or technically inclined. It was a skill he wished he had, but he would take an affinity for killing over an affinity for computer systems any day.

“What would have happened if he didn’t go away?” Kaye asked.

Norith shrugged, “I would have introduced him to this slicer I know.” He pulled the combat knife from its sheath and smiled, if a little bit cruelly.

“That’s morbid,” Meteora exclaimed. Skarr nodded, he thought it was funny.

The squad leader motioned to the rest of the house, “Going to finish up?” She nodded and started working on one of the various traps she had set up. Skarr grinned and fished his comm out of his pocket.

“Zaria, Zippy, Zal. Get your asses to the safehouse. It’s getting closer to the rendezvous time.”

As they exited the alley, Zaria replaced the scarf on her head, no use getting anyone else to notice her around here, muttering a few curses into her com. She found herself clenching both her teeth and her hands as they moved. The authority thing seemed to come off easier than she thought but she didn’t feel the confidence that should come with it. Knowing that this Mandalorian, Balac, was supposed to be on their side should have made the familiar tension in her shoulders leave but instead she felt tenser.  The exchange with him had been amusing in retrospect, sure, but she could have handled it better…she could have. Her thoughts were interrupted as a group of guards rushed past them toward the alley they had been occupying not long ago.

She let her eyes casually move after them, as many of the vendors around where doing, and she felt the knife in her palm finding some comfort in the warm metallic feel of it. Then, she lowered her eyes and moved through the crowd, glad for its cover. From beneath the scarf she noted Zippy walking some 20 yards ahead. Balac walked between herself and Zippy as she wanted to keep a close eye on him until she was sure that what he had said was true. Skarr would see to that as soon as they could all meet back at the safehouse.

Vicious continued watching carefully from above, for one: in case the guards followed and two: in case Balac tried anything funny. The redhead found frustration teetering on the edges of her psyche as they continued. She was still pretty fresh around the Corps and because of it many of the faces that were known to her fellow troopers were strange to her. Zippy seemed to know Balac, she on the other hand was in the dark. Ebony eyes trailed through the crowd to the Balac’s back and she stared thoughtfully with a slight frown.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the familiar voice of Eclipse’s muscular Squad Leader came through the com. “Zaria, Zippy, Zal. Get your asses to the safehouse. It’s getting closer to the rendezvous time.”

Zaria felt herself relax, if only a bit, as she heard this but the slight frown remained on her features. She slid her knife into her pocket, trying to make the move look as though she was looking for something there instead. “Got it, Skarr”

Though she knew that she probably should have told him about Balac immediately, Zaria thought maybe for now it was best she didn’t mention it. If indeed Skarr and Balac knew each other it would show as soon as they met. She didn’t want to make a fool of herself again with a slightly amused grin Zaria thought back to her history in the Corps so far and noted that it was becoming a trend for her to do this. Then she looked back, straight ahead, and spoke with the authority laced voice she still didn’t find familiar.
“You heard the man, everyone, let’s get to it.”

The redhead moved easily through the crowd finding her pace quickening if only slightly. She looked up toward where Zippy and Balac were ahead of her and up to where she imagined Vicious should be. An unfamiliar sound behind her made her look over her shoulder as casually as she could. The guards from before where leaving the mouth of the alley and talking to the vendors around. One of the vendors shook his head and pointed in their direction. Zaria knew that the odds of them knowing specifically who was in that alley weren’t all that great but still she found herself biting her lip and turning away in as normal a manner as she could manage. She pretended to look at some wares as she muttered into the com.

“Don’t call attention to yourselves but we got to leave make it back to the safe house as quickly as possible, it looks like these guys may be smarter than we thought. “

The vendor pointed enthusiastically speaking in an alien language that she was unfamiliar with and she shook her head turning and immediately looking for the Mandalorian. Her shoulders ached from the tension and her fingers were a bit shaky as she kept them from the pistol at her hip. Yet, her voice continued to be as full of authority before and she moved casually through the crowd. They had to get back.
OOC:
So we're on our way back to the safe house. I left some development open in the way of the guards catching wind of the commotion so feel free to play with that. And sorry about the lackluster nature of this, I'm having trouble getting the muse back up and running.

The Barabel flicked his tail in what probably was frustration and shot a glare at the merc that he had killed when he'd first entered this room. If the man were still alive, he'd presumably wet his pants and flee. A glaring Barabel is not a welcoming sight to anybody, much less the Barabel's enemies. Zal refocused his eye on the scope and saw the trio of Eclipse members - as the Mandalorian had identified himself as one - exiting the alley. The Mandalorian was flanked by Zippy and Zaria.  Hmm, Zal thought. If it were him, he'd have forced the Mandalorian to walk a few paces ahead.

"Zaria, Zippy, Zal.." Baraduk only heard the first part of the transmission, as by the second he was already moving. He folded his rifle and slid it onto his back after scanning for more threats. Seeing the gathering of guards he made a note to avoid them. He stepped out of the apartment and let his gaze sweep the corridor. Which was when he heard the elevator, seeing the green light flash. Vicious snarled and sprinted down the opposite end of the corridor, turning a corner and smacking the button for the other elevator. He could hear boots by now and, glancing around the corner, he saw a team of guards with blasters raised storming his previous nest.

The elevator pinged, and Zal entered, slamming the ground floor option. He heard shouts and a guard came around the corner- just as Vicious effectively disappeared, the armour's stealth systems activating in time. The guard looked at the empty elevator with a confused expression and Zal smiled at him from within the armour.. The lift closed on the bewildered guard and hummed downward, allowing Baraduk to deactivate his cloaking system.

He let out a grating sigh and waited for the lift doors to open. They did and he was met by the view of two guards. Typical. He should have figured they'd leave a rear-guard. He had no time to think of alternatives as the guards turned, his hunting blades appearing in his hands as he stepped forward, blood spurting from the throats of the guards. Fortunately for Zal, they fell within the elevator - as did the blood - and the doors closed. Zal hid his blades again and loped off into the street.

"The guardzz are onto thizz one" he hissed to Zaria "Thizz one will tail you in the shadowzz"

The Barabel disappeared into the shadows of the overhanging buildings, slipping past a squad of guards heading the other way. He watched them go and continued on his way, until he got within sight of the rest of his squad - Zippy, Zaria and the Mandalorian. He made sure he was out of sight. "Thizz one haz you in hizz sightzz.." He commed Zaria again. She clicked back in acknowledgement. For the moment, Baraduk was happy. He'd slain two guards out of necessity, but it'd quelled his blood thirst for now.

He kept his reptilian gaze scanning their surroundings - the guards had not yet amassed this far out. Looking back he could see the guards exit the building he had exited not ten minutes ago, their eyes searching.

"We may need to move slightly faster.." he hissed with that in mind.

"Why? What's happened?" came back Zaria's voice.

"Thizz one had to take care of a duo of guardzz.. they are now searching for me." He said across the comm channel. Zaria's sigh of exasperation was audible. Baraduk always killed something. To be fair, it wasn't his fault.

"Really, Zal? Well done." She said sarcastically, and ahead he could see her giving orders and moving them faster. But not so fast that they were conspicuous. The guards were scanning the crowds for people that matched his description.. and although Zal didn't know it, for Mandalorians.

He kept pace with the squad, his armour making it easier to blend with the shadows. They soon left the area behind and began approaching the rendezvous.. Vicious remained out of sight the whole time, yet keeping them in his sight. A number of times he lost sight of them, but regained it again quickly after they passed through crowded or shadowy areas. After what seemed like too long, they passed the safehouse. Zal himself stayed opposite it to see if anyone was following them.

He waited a few moments, eyes sweeping up and down, until he was confident no-one was following them before clicking an acknolwedgment to Zaria, who reappeared at the safehouse door.

She spoke a code and the door opened, showing their muscled Squad Leader. He looked over the group, his expression calm but at the same time concerned. "Where's Vicious?"

At that moment, the Barabel chose to materialise from the shadows beside Zippy and form what passed for a smirk "Thizz one izz here"

Skarr nodded and motioned them inside.

A ringing chime passed through the house. Meteora informed the squad leader that it was the doorbell after he had unholstered his pistols. The sound had surprised Skarr and he nearly jumped through the roof. In between laughs, Kaye told Skarr that it was indeed Bernadette and the squad. The young man nodded and approached the door. The squad outside had spoken the correct password for the door opened smoothly revealing Balac, Zaria, and Zippy to Skarr’s eyes. There was no sign of Zal.

“Where’s Vicious?” Skarr asked, concern veining his voice.

The Barabel appeared next to Zippy, making the man jump in surprise. His lizard face twisted up in what Skarr could only guess was some sort of smile. Skarr scowled a little, he did not like being surprised.

“Thizz one is here.” The leader of Eclipse nodded slowly and motioned for them to enter the safe house. Once they were all inside Skarr peered outside and looked around before closing the door. He turned around and walked up to Balac. Skarr grabbed the Mandalorian’s armored forearm and shook.

“Su’cuy Balac!” Skarr greeted the man in his own tongue. He heard a sigh of relief escape Bernadette which struck Skarr as strange. He was sure she had gotten the message of Balac’s transfer back in the squad. The 2nd Lieutenant pulled Balac to the side.

“What happened?” Skarr asked.

“Your assistant took me prisoner. I’m not sure she got the appropriate messages and my comm is broken. She was careful. Did the right thing in this kind of situation,” Balac explained. Skarr smiled slyly and looked over at Zaria who was fidgeting and looking around the safehouse. It’s not like her to be nervous. Or to show it at least. He clapped Balac on the shoulder and motioned for him to look around.

Bernadette watched him go and looked nervously at Skarr. The man smiled at her and walked over. “You did the right thing Zaria. There was no way to know that he was telling the truth.” She smiled tentatively and walked away, consumed in her thoughts. The squad was milling around and talking with each other. Zippy was looking around, amazed at the technology assembled.

Skarr had them all sit down on the couches. Zal chose to stand, he would have taken up a full couch himself. Zaria, Zippy, and Kaye took one couch, while Balac had a full couch to strecth out on. The squad leader also chose to stand. He did not enjoy having to tell the squad what he was about to tell them, but it had to be done. As an officer, he was not required to tell his squad anything, but Skarr prided himself on being an honest man to his family. And his squad was his family. There was no doubt about it.

“Eclipse, there is something that I have to tell you,” Skarr began, “This mission will be a very tough one. Especially for me, but the job has to be done. I’ve been getting reports from the rebels here. It doesn’t seem like this conflict is going to be solved simply. Governor Illium, the tosser that he is, has stated that nothing less than an upheaval of the palace will gain a victory for the rebellion.”

Zippy snorted, “So we storm the palace?”

“It won’t be that simple. We have to gain the trust of the rebels. Their leader already has a laundry list of stuff for us to do. They need weapons, armor, materials. We’re essentially supplying an army with the planet’s own weaponry. There’s going to be a battle right in here in this very city by the end of it all. There will be collateral damage. Innocents are going to die. And we’ll be responsible.” Skarr explained. The room was deathly silent. Never before had the squad been on a mission where innocents were involved. Even Thyveck had been relatively devoid of collateral damage for the squad. Now, Eclipse was faced with civilian casualties caused directly and indirectly by themselves.

Skarr sighed deeply, “I tell you this because I don’t want there to be any surprises. This will be dirty business. And I do not relish in the task. But it has to be done. And Eclipse was sent to do the job because we have a history of completing our tasks. Now I am asking you, are you fit to do this?”

Silence permeated the room for several minutes that felt like hours. Finally, he got his answers. It started with Zal and swept through the rest of the squad. A chorus of ‘Ayes’ were whispered out. It saddened Skarr that he even had to ask his squad. Eclipse was still relatively new after being reinstated. And the constant influx of new recruits left Skarr with rather inexperienced soldiers. At least I’ll be getting one more old friend on this mission.

Minutes before the squad had arrived, Skarr had received yet another message from High Command. They were sending one more person his way. An old friend of his. Razor had joined the Vast Empire around the same time Skarr had. The two had been constant friends after meeting up on their training missions. The squad leader was going to be happy to have him back.

“I have one more piece of news. There will be one more addition to the squad before we leave. And he is on his way now. Razorsedge is a good friend of mine. Much like Balac. So as soon as he gets here, we’re going to move out to the rendezvous.” Skarr said. This news was received much better by the squad. There were smiles and slight applause. No one on the squad besides Skarr knew Razor, but the fact that just one more person was coming along would help.

Razor pulled himself up onto the roof of the small building. Ensuring that he kept a low silhouette so as not to alert his enemies to his presence or whereabouts he slithered up to the edge of the building and peered into the bustling streets.  He had a perfect view of the bazaar.  The mix of races and groups was truly incredible. A real mixing pot of all the travelers in the galaxy.

Razor instantly picked out the group of p;anetary defense force on patrol.  They caused a disturbance in a crowd like a stone striking water.  People seemed to literally flow away from them.  wherever they were people seemed to just evaporate from.

Razor pulled the scope from his E-11S out of his pack and peered through it.  He watched as the patrols roughed up anyone who got into their path.

Much like the patrols the presence of the few Barbels in the crowd was immediately noticeable.  Razor picked out two in the first five minutes he was in his position.  One giant black scaled one that seemed to glare at everyone who walked by and a red scaled vendor that was simply attempting to peddle his wares.  Razor flicked back around the crowd and realized he had lost track of the black scaled Barbel. Something that most people would have not believed possible.

Just then the Barbel apparently passed a little too close to the guards because they began to chaff him with harsh words and threatening grabs of their blasters. The vendor was surrounded almost instantly by the patrol. The first guard hit the red-scaled vendor with the butt of his blaster and when the vendor hissed in return, all four of the guards had drawn their blasters and were threatening the vendor. One of the guards struck the barbel again.  The vendor dropped his bags as he fell to his knees. The guard then smashed his butt on the Barbel's back again.  Razor almost flinched as he saw what was coming.  Almost.

A single shot rang out around the bazaar and although no one stopped or even looked as the giant body crumpled to the ground it seemed to Razor as if a sudden hush fell over the bazaar.

Razor decided it was time to move from his rather exposed position and do some recon work before he met up with his squad.

Razor rolled as he hit the ground, instantly sinking into the deep shadows of the building. Razor slouched into a stall attempting to hide the fact that he had his pistols strapped to the back of his MK III armor.

His shroud had kept him well enough concealed amongst the mangy and downtrodden on Loreth.  Even though it was obvious there was dissent amongst the ranks of the civilians, Razor was surprised to find that even some of the soldiers were grumbling about the lengthened hours and lowered pay.  The patrol he was following had to be something of an average of how the planetary defense force had come to see themselves under the newer harsher regime of Loreth.

As he rounded a corner into another shadowed alleyway his datapad beeped.

OSCAR 1 SIERRA TO ECHO 3 ROMEO:

Razor started walking quickly toward the house indicated on his wrist map, brushing through the crowd a little rougher than was necessary.  Razor had already started to detach himself mentally from these crowds knowing that during any rebellion innocents died.  It was just the nature of the beast.

Razor rounded the final corner indicated on his map and instantly began to pick out the signs of occupation.  To the unpracticed eye the house would have simply looked abandoned but Razor could see the telltale signs that his brothers and sisters had occupied the house.  The occasional rustles in the drawn curtains told him that the avenues of approach were watched and well covered.

As Razor approached the door he turned on the identifier in his armor.  He knew this wouldn't be enough but he hoped that his fellow troopers would realize who he was.  He had never served with any of them so he quietly prayed to himself that none of them were as quick on the trigger as he had been.

He reached his hand out and was about to touch the doorbell when the door swung open and he was thrown bodily to the floor.  He offered as little resistance as possible just attempting to roll with the punches.  There was a blaster pistol firmly lodged in the padding in between his helmet and his chest plate.

A devious voice whispered in his ear,"Hello old friend."

Razor shoved the squad leader away from him, grinning beneath his mask.

"You just think you're so clever." He said as he picked himself up and readjusted his gear.

"Well now that the old man is here, we can finally begin."

Razor was about to ask who the frak Skarr was talking about when he saw the shadows in the dimly lit house shift and flicker.  He blinked hard and fast as his sight adjusted.

Out of the shadows formed a squad of armored Stormtroopers all looking tough as nails and eager for a fight.  Some were armored and some were just wearing a fresh pair of whatever they could find in the bazaars.  Razor was impressed with the array of weapons he saw slung on backs or tightly gripped in the hands of his squad mates.

"Well hey there," he said probably a little more sarcastically than he meant but for him his sense of humor had always been his way of escaping awkward situations.

"I'm Razor and I will be your new squad member.  I know i haven't served with any of you and you probably don't really trust me yet but I'll watch your back if you've got mine.  That being said, lets do this thing there's a crate of ale waiting for me back at the barracks."

The troopers moved upstairs and prepared  for the mission briefing.  Each would receive his specific instructions for the coming mission.

By this point, Kaye felt as if she was practically obligated to make at least one smartass quip during the course of every conversation she had with her squad-mates. But after hearing Skarr's morbid declaration of what horrors they had to look forward too on this mission, Kaye found that for one of the few times in her life she had nothing to say. Instead, she merely sat there, shock numbing her features. Civilian deaths, he said, caused by them. Whether directly by their actions or indirectly was academic. Kaye was no patriot, but even she could recognize that starting a war with not just a grim realization that innocents would die, but an acceptance of that fact, as if it could ever be acceptable; that was a level of cold pragmatism that you would expect to see from the old Galactic Empire, something from Grand Moff Tarkin, not the soldiers of the Vast Empire. As she watched Skarr talk -his mouth moved but his words sounded distorted, as if she were underwater- she could almost see in her mind's eye the after-action report he'd write. Civilian casualties within "acceptable" parameters. Overall mission objectives achieved. Where's my promotion? While Kaye didn't really think Skarr was the type of soldier who was so ambitious in his career as to be devoid of morals, she wondered all the same why he accepted the mission to begin with. Surely a different squad could have done it; the bloodthirsty maniacs that made up the Raiders' rabble would have probably jumped at the chance to butcher civilians, for example.

A shrill whining noise forced Kaye's drifting mind to snap back into the moment. She glanced down at the source of the noise, the datapad on her wrist, and read the data strolling down its screen. Someone had tripped the motion sensor she'd installed at the foot of the path leading to the front door. She looked up just briefly enough to utter a few words to Skarr, than went back to fiddling with the datapad.

"Intruder approaching the front door." While the rest of the squad silently powered up weapons and took positions around the door, Kaye moved a bit slower, trying to get a better handle on who they were about to be dealing with. She checked the cameras.

"Single person. Wearing body armor and a helmet. Can't see any insignia, but his suit's flashing an ID for Razorsedge, one of ours. No weapon drawn."

"It's probably him, but let's not take any chances."

Kaye held her E-11 in a one-handed grip and joined the rest of Eclipse next to the door. She took one last glance at the live-feed on her datapad.

"He's at the door." She whispered, giving her CO an expectant look. Skarr nodded the go ahead, and with a gesture, she smacked the wall-panel that controlled the door. It shot open with a hydraulic hiss, and suddenly the sound of over a half dozen individuals moving with a purpose filled the air. In a flurry of movement, the intruder had gone from standing outside the door, to on his stomach on the living room floor with enough firepower to bring down a rancor pressed against his body.

Adrenaline flooded through Kaye's body, and she felt tense. Civilians didn't wear body armor. As such, if Skarr didn't recognize the guy, she'd blow his brains out without a second thought. Instead, the squad leader leaned in close to their captive and, with a mischievous smile, whispered something into his ear. Skarr backed up, letting his gun hang limply by his side, and gestured for the rest of them to pull back and allow the guy to get to his feet. Kaye nodded wearily as she stepped away and slid her E-11 back into the holster on her hip. Her emotions were still raw from the revelation Skarr had shared only a few minutes prior; random soldiers appearing in the night didn't help the flurcking problem, not by a long shot. Too many surprises in such a short time-span.

The new-arrival introduced himself as Razor and joked around a bit, but Kaye wasn't in a jovial mood. She put on her "couldn't-give-a-damn" face.

"Glad you decided to finally show up." She said acidly once he was done, her face contorting into a sneer. "Always room for one more on this mission, it's a flurking party in here." Now that she'd thrown down the proverbial gauntlet, Kaye expected the man to respond with an aggressive come-back of his own, but before he could say anything, Skippy interrupted.

"Don't mind Kaye." He said as he walked by, moving back to toward the couches. "Someone took her teddy away when she was a baby." Razor chuckled and winked at Zippy, prompting Kaye to shake her head and turn away.

Skarr clapped his hands enthusiastically, drawing their attention.

"Alright guys and gals, now that we're all here-" Kaye snorted. "- it's time to move on to the next phase of the mission. We're going to meet up with the leader of the rebels at a restaurant further downtown." He paused for several heartbeats, thinking of the best way to articulate his thoughts. "This is a meeting with a friendly, partly to start planning our next move but also to garner trust. Therefore this isn't the time to walk up armed to the teeth. We want to show that we're on their side." Kaye saw where he was going with this, and for the first time since they'd arrived on Loreth, she was glad that the only gun she had was the battered old E-11.

"Leave the big stuff here." Skarr continued." Bring only small-arms, armor's acceptable but if possible just... try to be casual about this." Though no one said a word, all of Eclipse's eyes briefly flickered over to Vicious. "Casual" was going to be difficult for the large Barabel to pull-off. He was non-threatening like an AT-AT was a form of commercial transportation.

"We're moving out in five minutes, so get your gear ready."

"It's also cold as hell out there." Razor put in. "So wear a jacket." Kaye blushed, realizing that she alone had stripped down to a tank-top and jeans over the course of retrofitting the house.

"Dismissed."

Five minutes passed in the way an hour would on a long summer day on Tatooine. Within only two minutes, the squad had gathered most of the gear they were taking for the meeting. It had been agreed that Balac, Razor, and Zal were the three most threatening presences in the squad and so they would follow Eclipse discreetly and watch over the meeting from a distance. Skarr would take the rest of the squad with him to the restaurant. He was not sure how many people the leader of the Loreth Rebellion was bringing with him to the restaurant, but Skarr was sure that the man would want to see the squad.

Skarr sent the Balac, Razor, and Vicious outside first. After a few moments, he led Meteora outside. Zippy and Bernadette came out last. The street in front of the house was almost completely empty. Skarr’s eyes moved up and down the street, peering at everyone. When he assumed that there was no threat, he motioned for the squad to start moving. They began walking north. The rendezvous was several miles away in one of the many bazaars. He couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant, but it was the only one in the middle of the bazaar. Jayce Rayder would be waiting there.

The squad leader knew little of Jayce. From what the records show, Jayce Rayder was part of Illium’s governmental council for several years. When the issue of joining the Vast Empire had come up, Jayce was the most avid supporter. Illium, in a fit of rage, rallied political support to oust Jayce. It succeeded. Seeing a need for change in the government, Rayder decided to start a campaign, merely political at first. The Loreth Campaign was designed to rally the people into making the decision. A few weeks after the campaign began, Illium issued arrest orders for Jayce and his campaign managers.

With the freedom of speech revoked, Jayce seen that only an uprising would work. Violence had worked for the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. Skarr didn’t like uprisings. They were messy. Not only were the people going against what they were told to do in the worst fashion, they were involving civilians. Civilian casualties were the one horror that Skarr worked at his hardest to avoid. And the fact that this mission would involve the harming of innocents stung. As Platoon Commander, he would usually have control over what missions Eclipse would embark on. This mission, however, had been passed down by the Army High Command. They had asked Skarr to take on this mission with Eclipse. But beneath the question, Skarr sensed the order.

The man had no choice but to take the mission. He did have some control though. Skarr would not partake in anything that involved harming anyone without a weapon that did not strike first. Innocent blood would not stain his hands directly. He knew that Eclipse would refuse to take any action. Especially Kaye. She had taken the longest to answer. The squad leader sighed deeply, this was not the kind of mission the squad needed to be on. They were still young. Still a little green. They were not ready for this. And neither was Skarr. When the time came, he didn’t think he’d have the heart to tell them what they absolutely had to do.

taken it back a hot minute

As Razor brushed himself off.  As he did a young trooper that his HUD flashed was Meteora got right inside of his blood circle with a nasty sneer on her face.  Normally Razor would have thrown anyone who got inside his circle and their flying body would have been followed by two well placed blaster bolts.  He did not, however, want to make a bad impression on his new squad so he restrained his screaming instincts as she seemed to spit, ""Glad you decided to finally show up. Always room for one more on this mission, it's a flurking party in here."

Razor's face went stony and he opened his mouth to make a retort when another of the troopers brushed past him saying, ""Don't mind Kaye. Someone took her teddy away when she was a baby." Razor chuckled and winked at Zippy realizing that it had been his first test and not actually a direct challenge.  He had to remember that he wasn't in Blackjack anymore with Abalar and Garryll who would only say something like that if all the chips had been thrown on the table.

Kaye, as Zippy had called her, turned away and stormed off like a hurricane.

Skarr issued his orders and Razor quipped, "It's also cold as hell out there. So wear a jacket." That seemed to addle the younger trooper as she was the only one not wearing full tactical gear.

Razor was of average height but grinned at people like a starving hyena that had walked upon a fallen foe.  It was decided that when he was decked out with his gear, even though they were going light on this mission, he set too imposing a figure to actually go on the mission.  Balac and the Barbel were also too threatening a figure for this kind of friendly meeting so they would also be going on overwatch for this mission.

Skarr had pulled Razor aside and said,"I already briefed the rest of the squad but when the time comes, there may be civilian casualties."

Razor looked at Skarr and saw how much it troubled the platoon commander that he had brought his squad on this mission.

"We will all do our duty.  We know what we signed up for and we know that you would never ask us to do what you wouldn't.  The fact that you have doubts means that you will make the right decisions when the time comes." Razor said in an attempt to solidify the troubles in the squad leader's head.

Razor secretly had no qualms about anything.  The Noghri had taken Razor and tortured him he learned the pain of loss of family and loss of sense of reality.  He knew that civilians died.  He was prepared to make the greater sacrifices for the good of the Empire.  If it came to it and Skarr wasn't ready to make the hard choice and commit to the slaughter that always came with rebellion Razor was.  He would not stop until they achieved their goal.  Nothing was more important to Razor than mission accomplishment.

The squad leader walk away from Razor looking slightly steadied.  He turned to Balac and Vicious then pointed at the door.  They both nodded.  As they walked past Razor the Barbel said, "Thizz one would recommend that you follow."

Razor fell into step behind them as they all walked into the street.  Instantly as they cleared the door they got dispersion.  Razor scanned across the rooftops, disguising it as stopping and stretching out his back.  Razor was praying he would find someone who he could release some aggression on.

The other two kept moving walking about fifteen meters apart. Razor made it a game to see if he could almost lose them before he had to catch up a little bit.  His earpiece tweedled after a few minutes to signal that the next group had left.  The fact that Razor had to leave his helmet back at the house had made him uncomfortable because despite the fact that there was a huge mix of breeds on Loreth Razor had seen hardly any Zabraks.  His white horns shined slightly in the sun.  He hoped to be able to stay disguised in this crowd.

As always he was assured by his DC-15Ss hidden on his back under his shroud.  He also had brought his scope along to help him watch the meeting better.  Just as they reached the street where the rest of the squad would be moving to have the meeting, Razor's earpiece tweedled again. The whole squad was now moving into positions.  Razor entered a door which led to a night club on the second story of a building.  Razor wandered over to a table next to a window which gave him a semi decent view of the street.

He sunk back in his chair and eyed the other customer.  When he caught one of the dancers eyeing him he gave her the wolf grin that scared people away.  The waiter came over and he ordered an ale so that he could better brood while he waited for the meeting.  His thoughts instantly turned to the personality profiles that he had started making of his new squadmates.

It was going to be a long night........

A lot had changed in the past couple weeks. Therex was slumped in a chair, a cigarra hanging from one side of his mouth. That was number one. He had never smoked before. But now it seemed to just be part of his daily routine. It helped alleviate the pain in his leg. Yet another change. Flexing the right leg, he heard the small servos running under the synth-skin. He had lost it after some strange infection started eating away at the flesh on his last mission. In all his years of medical training, they never told him how bad a field amputation could be. Especially when you were the amputee. Breathing in, Therex focused on the tip of his cigarra as it glowed a brilliant red, almost canceling out the glow of his eyes.

Pulling him back to reality, a waiter approached his table and dropped off a small glass of amber liquid.

Well, not everything had changed.

He reached down and scooped the glass up in his hand, and took a long sip. As the alcohol burned his throat, he could feel the creature in his mind stir. Ever since his last fight, he had come to terms with the beast that lived in the dark corners of his mind. However, it came at a cost. Standing, Therex dropped a small cred chip on the table and pulled his black trench coat around him. Finding the door, he casually strolled towards it, when his comm beeped, signaling that it was time. Sighing, Therex remembered his last squad. It used to be Bright who would send him such signals, but unexpectedly he was transferred to Eclipse.

As he passed the small podium by the door, the waiter looked up and opened his mouth to say something. In Therex's state, that wasn't usually recommended. Lashing out with one hand, Therex caught the man around the throat and raised him up to his face. the waiter's legs swung wildly as Therex tightened his grip. Meeting the man's eyes, Therex slowly extended the vibroblade that was inside his armor's gauntlet. It pushed gently against the man's throat.

"I will not have a good night," he growled.

Fully extending the blade, he cut the man's throat and dropped the limp body. Watching the man slowly convulse on the floor, Therex leaned down and met his eyes again. Smiling, he waited for the man to stop moving before standing up and grabbing a napkin from a nearby table and cleaning his blade. Pushing the body out of view, he watched a couple walk in and look at him.

"Please, sit anywhere," he said, offering a small bow.

As they kept looking at him curiously, he pushed past and headed out. Only two blocks down, he heard the lady scream. Uncontrollably, Therex smiled again.

Yes, a lot has changed.

The soft padding of Thengil's feet on the street made barely a sound. As a young Cathar of about average height for one of his species he did not stand out too terribly, except for the horrible, purplish burn that covered most of the left-side of his face, giving his left eye a sharp squint. Thengil tried to ignore the occasional stare as someone would make out the disfigurement. It was an example of his failure. Until he regained his honor he would never be truly whole, and the scar constantly reminded him of that.

He glanced to his right, across the crowd, in the manner only feline's do, and spotted Beta. Further ahead and to the left stood Therex. Some ways ahead the Cathar's yellow eyes saw Skarr and his group moving toward the primary objective of the meeting location. As part of the overwatch group, Thengil and the others needed to be spread out and far enough away to not attract notice, but close enough to respond to a threat. Bringing the two together was a hard task, which was why snipers were often delegated the task of overwatch. From a far position they could escape notice, but could still give combat support in the event of enemy contact.

Thengil scanned the rooftops for a position where he could engage in overwatch without attracting too much attention. One building had an open air restaurant on the roof. That could work well in some ways, but Thengil preferred being able to provide fire support, not a simple spotter. The highest building in the area was a hotel that looked as if it had a flat roof.

"Moving into the Beeshai Hotel," rasped Thengil into his headset connected to the squad channel, "going to find out if it has a suitable overwatch roof or not."

"Copy," came the reply from Skarr.

Garbed in a casual spacer outfit, with a holster for his blaster pistol and a backpack containing a DC-17M Interchangeable Weapon System, or ICWS for short, Thengil didn't garner much attention as he moved into the hotel and took the turbolift to the top floor. Emerging at the top floor, Thengil scouted around a bit before he found an access stairwell to the top floor, but the door to it was magnetically sealed. Thengil thought it would be, but had been hoping the hotel was more careless than that. He set his dufel bag down and rummaged around until he came up with an anti-security blade, which emitted harmonic interference waves that caused things like a magnetically sealed door to malfunction. Thengil checked the door to make sure opening it wouldn't set off any alarms, then activated the anti-security blade. Thengil activated the keypad and the door slid aside, giving him a clear view of the stairs that led to the top. Going back into his duffel bag he pulled out a laser tripwire at the foot of the stairs that would alert him with a two-tone shrill in his headset in the event of another person climbing up the stairs.

He slung the bag back over his shoulder and quickly sped up the stairs and opened the access door to the roof. It had decent spots of cover, but more importantly none of the nearby buildings were tall enough for someone to look down on Thengil's position. The Cathar once more set the duffel bag down and pulled out the ICWS. He clipped the sniper module onto the blaster and and clipped in an ammo magazine. The sniper mode fired projectile rounds encased in energy, similar to a wookiee bowcaster, but the blaster mode fired ion pulses more suited to taking down droids though still able to effectively kill humanoids.

Thengil found a suitable position on the roof, with the barrel of his rifle well enough away from the side of the roof that those looking up wouldn't be able to see it, and activated the electromagnetic scope. After a few moments of searching he found Skarr traveling through the crowd with his group. Thengil watched their progress through the scope.

"This is Thengil, I'm in overwatch covering your position."

"Any movement?"

"Negative, no ground movement."

"What about air?"

Thengil hadn't thought of that. He glanced at the sky. "Kriff. Airspeeder about five klicks out, I'm taking cover." Thengil grabbed his duffel bag and sprinted across the roof until he was hiding in the stairwell. He'd left the access door partially open and could see a sliver of the airspeeder as it moved past. Carefully, Thengil emerged from the access door again and glanced after the speeder. It looked like it was heading off for good. He peered around at the surrounding sky. A few speeders here and there, but nothing so close as the last one.

"Okay, it's gone, returning to overwatch."

The small party of Eclipse troopers seemed as unconcerned as ever as they moved through the crowd, though Thengil's adrenaline was up and and his heart was pounding as he watched them through the electromagnetic scope. It was good to be back.

After Thyveck, Thengil had taken a leave of absence due to the status of his homeworld, Cathar. Internal conflicts still continued, and the Purist still struggled to gain control over the savannah world. Thengil couldn't go back until he had regained his honor, but he could help from afar. He worked with several peace organizations to help supplies reach Cathar and to take care of refugees fleeing the embattled world. But after the Purist had been put down once more and the days of pace passed, Thengil felt he must return to the Vast Empire's service. Upon rejoining, he was immediately deployed to Loreth to rejoin Eclipse along with a few new members including Beta and Therex. And now here he was.... and there they were.

Thengil pulled himself from internal reflection as he spotted the leader of the rebellion flanked by four normal looking humanoids, but Thengil was sure he could taste their dangerous scent, even from where he watched. Skarr and the others walked right up to them, and Thengil saw their mouths moving. Unfortunately, he was no lip reader. Basic wasn't even his first language. But it was clear that the meeting had begun, Thengil just hoped they wouldn't move out of his line of sight.

The message had come in that Thengil, Beta, and Therex would be joining his squad. We’re getting full. It had been far too long since Skarr had a full squad under his command. It felt good to see old faces as well as new among them. Skarr had met Therex during their training and he had served with Beta in Raiders. Razor had been an old training friend as well. Thengil had been a former Eclipse member before he left for personal reasons.

Skarr had sent orders to each of them. The Chiss was to meet up with his group along the way. Beta and Thengil were to stay behind with the other group. He wanted to appear as threatening as possible, but not overly so. The point was to assure Jayce, not scare him. They were still a few blocks from the restaurant where they were supposed to meet. Just ahead was the bazaar where the restaurant was the center of.

The bazaar was much like every other one on the planet. It was crowded with several different species, selling all kinds of merchandise. Skarr clicked on his comm to Eclipse’s private channel.

“Remember, ladies and gentlemen, we’re not buying,” Skarr reminded them. He heard slight chuckles from them as they steeled themselves against the useless merchandise and the good deals. They waded through the crowd, shaking their heads and pushing away the humans and aliens that harassed them. Skarr didn’t like to be rude, but they had to keep a schedule. The restaurant drew nearer and the crowds grew thinner.

There were barely any people around the restaurant., which made finding Jayce all the more easier. There were five people, just arriving at the same time as Skarr and Eclipse. Skarr nodded to them and began walking toward them.

The man approached Skarr’s small party tentatively. They had each seen each other’s picture before, so they would know each other. Jayce Rayder was shorter than Skarr, the squad leader guessed him to be about 5”11. He wore a simple civilian’s outfit and did not look to be armed. The four humans around him, however, did look to be armed in some fashion or another. Skarr felt good that he had left an overwatch party behind, just in case. Vicious and Thengil had taken to the roof tops, sniper rifles at the ready. Balac, Beta, and Razor were on the ground somewhere nearby.

Jayce stepped forward and extended his hand slowly, “Do you know how the sauteed nerf is here?”

Recognizing the pass phrase, Skarr smiled, “It’s a little too overcooked for my tastes.” The leader of the rebellion grinned in relief and motioned for Skarr and the rest of Eclipse to take a seat. Skarr and Jayce sat across from each other. The rest of the squad found seats close to them, but at different tables throughout the restaurant.

The other man looked around the restaurant nervously before looking back to Skarr, “How was your trip?”

“Went down without a hitch. By the way, how is the sauteed neft?” Skarr asked.

“It’d be best not to order anything. I want to make this quick and get to the point,” Jayce admitted. He pulled a file from his case and slid it across to Skarr. The squad leader opened it and began flipping through it, only giving the papers a cursory glance. They were the plans to a large factory. From the looks of it, it was a munitions factory. The squad leader looked up at Jayce.

“You want us to destroy a munitions factory?” Skarr asked plainly.

“Yes, but not before you load a few trucks up with weapons and ammunition. I need these weapons. There will be men there to drive the trucks.” Jayce explained. Skarr sighed and opened the folder again. He grabbed the memory chip inside and shoved it into his datapad. He slid the folder back over to Jayce and stood.

“I trust we’re done here?” Skarr asked. The leader nodded and stood as well.

“Be careful, we can’t afford any screw-ups here.”

“Hmmph. The Empire sent Eclipse squad. There will be no screw-ups.” With that, Skarr turned and left the restaurant, Eclipse following behind. The squad leader didn’t like the task he had been given. But the rebellion would need every bit of weaponry they could get. He fished his comm out of his pocket once more and began relaying the orders. They would stop by the safehouse, grab their gear, and wait until nighttime to attack the facility. It would give Skarr and Bernadette a chance to work up a plan.

Swiftly, Thengil disassembled the ICWS and stowed it in his duffel bag and stalked toward the access door. His feet padded softly against the ground as he jogged down the stairwell, picking up his laser trip on the way down and stowing it in his pants pocket. On his way down a man bumped right into him.

Thengil immediately took a step back, claws extended and watched the human male suspiciously. The man scowled at Thengil.

"You don't have access to this area!"

"I was just looking for the refresher," said Thengil placidly, his eyelids seeming to droop.

"Uh huh, that only works in the holomovies, cat. I'm gonna have to ask you to come with me." The man took a step forward and grabbed a fistful of Thengil's shirt.

The Cathar's whiskers twitched and he smiled ominously, showing sharp fangs. The human was big, almost as tall as Thengil, but humans did not have the abilities of a Cathar. "Try and make me," growled Thengil. He grabbed the man's hand and twisted it, breaking the hold on his shirt and joint-locking the human's wrist. The human gasped in astonishment, but reacted with a burst of speed from his free hand, sending a punch toward Thengil's ribs. Thengil parried the blow with the outside of his wrist, stepped into the man and delivered a sharp jab to the stomach that doubled the human over. He off-balanced the man and reaped one of the legs, sending the human sprawling to the floor in a daze.

Thengil wasted no time in bounding down the stairs and into the turbolift. Emerging on the ground floor, he stalked hurriedly through the doors of the hotel and out into the open bazaar. Eclipse was already on their way back to the safehouse and Thengil followed, taking pains to not look an overly suspicious individual as he moved through the crowd.

Once back at the safehouse, Thengil dropped his duffel bag in the corner and fell into a chair. The others were talking. Some joked about the close encounters, others spoke seriously of the mission to come. He peered out of the corner of his eye at Bernadette and Skarr. They looked deep in conversation. Thengil opened his massive jaws and yawned, stretching his arms and then closing his eyes, but he kept his ears wide open. His hearing was far more acute than a human's and he could hear everything that went on in the room. Even the whispers.

Cathar, like most feline humanoids, slept a lot. They had bursts of activity, but overall they spent the majority of their time sleeping. Thengil's life in the Vast Empire had terribly disrupted his sleep cycle, turning it into one more suited for humans. No surprise as the Vast Empire was still enormously humanocentric. Thengil used the time he'd been given to rest his eyes for a bit. Never truly asleep, but not really awake either. When Skarr and Bernadette wanted to inform the squad of their plans they would. In the meantime, it was best for Thengil to replenish his energy. The others probably thought him asleep, but woe betide the one who woke the lion in jest.

WC: 534. A mneh post, but I figured it advances them at least to the safehouse and gives minor CD.

Therex tossed away his almost gone cigarra. He had loitered on his way to the safehouse, taking time to make sure no one was following him. It was doubtful that anyone would want to, but it had become a habit, and he was a little paranoid about that sort of thing. Switching through the multiple filters his cybernetic eye provided, he scanned the rooftops and nearby alleyways. He jumped when a cat ran out from behind one building, appearing as a red blotch on his infra-red scan. Swearing, he regained his composure, and cursed under his breath. Returning to his normal sight, he slowly walked up to the safehouse door.

4 years. 4 years, and I am still as jumpy as I was in basic. I can kill men without any remorse or second thought, and yet every time they put me in a new squad, I am hesitant.

Shaking the thought from his mind, he straightened his coat out, his hand brushing against the bulge in his coat. He had learned that carrying slugthrowers over blasters was frowned upon, but he really liked the durability and reliability of a shotgun or revolver over the standard issue E-11.

Pushing the door open, Therex stepped into the dimly lit room and allowed his eye to adjust. Ever since he lost his left eye, his eyesight had been terrible. Thankfully his other senses had compensated, on top of the benefits of a cybernetic eye. Before he could even see, he heard Skarr, an old comrade from his basic training days. He was whispering with another person, but stopped when Therex took another step inside. Slowly, his eye let in small amounts of light, filtering through the haze. Now he could clearly see the room.

Skarr was standing next to another person, possibly the ASL. She wasn't an unattractive person, especially the eye-catching hair. It was strange, Therex always seemed to notice peoples hair. It just came naturally. Continuing to survey the room, he noticed one member curled up in a corner, possibly asleep, but Therex doubted it. Two days in VE will teach you to never sleep during a mission. Other people were scattered about the room, but most had their eyes fixed on Therex.

"THX-1138, reporting in, sir," Therex said, sarcastically throwing Skarr a two-finger salute. "You can call me Therex."

OOC:
Not very long or very good, but I didn't have much time to write.
"He has his orders, and when a Chiss accepts orders he carries them out, period."

And now Autolite brings you Therex Whitestone, in Vast Empire, a tale well calculated to keep you in suspense.
