You all do realize that the Republic BECOMES the Empire, don't you? There is no hostile takeover or anything. That's why they have the same symbol - they're really the same thing, deep down inside.  -----------------------

Speaking of the podracing on the screen in the bar...there was also a sport that very much resembled American football.
Another similarity beetween AotC and the original trilogy...
A: Obi-Wan escapes by landing on a asteroid...
T: Han lands "in" the asteroid in order to escape

I picked up two more similarities between ESB and AOTC, but I forgot one of them. Here's the one I can remember, although the exact wording is probably off.
Obi-Wan says, "Look, R4. There it is - Kamino."
Luke says, "Look, R2. There it is - Dagobah." -----------------------

DarkHawk, deep deep down inside. The Empire does NOT exist at this point. He said "The Imperial symbol on the Jedi Starfighter and the Republic's ships". Doesn't matter if their simular or become something larger in the future, the difference is that they DID changed it slightly, enough to be a NEW logo, the Imperial Emblem.
Imperial Emblem, Republic Symbol. Democratic, Dictatorship. Senate, Palpatine. Clone Troopers, Stormtroopers. Jedi, non-existant. Somethings did change with the Empire and to do this, "the last images of the Republic were to be swept away" or something like that (quoting Tarkin). Would you like to rule an organization whome you disliked, with symbols of its existance haunting you? No. Palpatine modified it slightly and that is my point.
The symbol was REPUBLIC, NOT Imperial. Im very picky with Imperial and Republic terms.

this is off the point, but you mentioned the ET thing. Watch to senate scene in ep I. There is a pod with the ET senators in it. GL also says there is a ship from Blade in it, flying around on curuscant. that's all -----------------------
