Chapter 1: The Deception

Tiberius has had a hard life. Never knowing his parents, he spent most of his time watching the night sky on Naboo. Living on Naboo was somewhat of a luxury, but these luxuries easily go away. When Tiberius was just 7 years old, he started to talk to pilots and smugglers at the local pub. Some of these pilots even showed him how to fly a ship! By the age of 9, Tiberius had become very good at flying smaller star craft. Then, when imperial stormtroopers came to Naboo, The pub was closed and many of the pilots that were his friends were now on their way to prison.

Tiberius was crushed at the sight of all of his friends being taking away by soldiers. From that day Tiberius swore that he would avenge them by doing what they were good at, smuggling illegal supplies between systems. Luckily Tiberius had learned where to but a ship. There was a hidden smuggler’s port just a few miles away from his hometown of Selton. Here smugglers bought and sold supplies, even stolen ships at times. But to get here, Tiberius would need to find transportation to this place, and the password to get in.

For weeks Tiberius searched for a way to get to this black market. He had asked every sketchy pilot and rouge that had come his way, but none of them would ever take a small boy seriously. Finally, at the age of 11, He got a ride from a bounty hunter called Bogna Schwetz. Bogna was never any good at bounty hunting, but he was good at tracking down people and remaining undetected. Tiberius had traded this ride for a small time of servitude of 5 years aboard the smuggler’s craft, the Deception. This was not such a bad thing, since his godparents on Naboo were probably worse to put up with.

After entering the market, Tiberius quickly took in all the sights and smells of the place. It was cold, damp, and dark. The air smelled of ashes and spirits, but nothing different from the local pub. Everywhere he could see wooden stalls selling everything from nerf hides to imperial blasters. Bogna quickly led the boy across the market to his ship, which was currently in a primitive hanger. It was a custom model, with twin torpedo tubes and several manned turrets. It could be flown alone, but the size required at least a crew of 3 to be of any use. The ship also had in big, black letters Deception across the hull.

Bogna then readied his ship for launch. He quickly told Tiberius to wait in the medial lab until they had cleared the atmosphere. The rest of the crew, which was about 7 or 8 men, was running around making last minute preparations for launch. In the medical ward there was a kind medical droid, which made sure Tiberius was comfortable. Then Tiberius noticed a man was lying on the table. It was the pilot, and the only one capable of flying the ship. He had gotten sick with some sort of non-contagious disease from one of the moons of Onderon, Dxun.

There was a hidden bounty hunter station there where small unknown bounty hunters and smugglers gather and hide from the empire. The base was hidden among the dense jungle, but this turned out to be more of a problem than anything else. The base was falling to ruin, and the creatures of the jungle were strong and plenty. It was always suspected that the empire just left the moon rot away so they wouldn’t lose soldiers to primitive animals.

Back in the medical ward, Tiberius heard over the intercom that he was requested in the cockpit. As he walked away from the medical lab, Tiberius felt like a loner among shadows. No one looked at him, and when he stared at the crew they seemed to not even notice them. Only when he reached the cockpit did anyone truly notice him.

“Ah, Tiberius. I understand you can fly a starship. As you know our pilot is rather sick, and no one else here can fly the ship. We must return to our contractor and deliver his package before we get a bounty on our heads. I had heard you could fly a ship from the bartender at the local pub. Please, take the ship into orbit. The navi-computer can do the rest.”

Tiberius couldn’t believe his ears. He had been asked by some random bounty hunter to fly his ship into space! Tiberius had never actually flown into space, or even for more than 20 minutes. As he sat down in the pilot’s chair, he warmed up the engines. The feeling of control one gets when they fly a ship overtook him, and within minutes, the ship had launched. When they reached space, Tiberius stopped for a minute to look out at the stars. These were the same stars he watched every night growing up, and now he could go and explore them all.

“Good job kid. I’ve put in the coordinates for our destination. Let’s make the jump to hyperspace and get out of here.”

And with a pull of a lever, Tiberius had left his home. Tiberius has sealed his fate as the “scum” of the universe, yet strangely, he felt good about this. Over the years Tiberius learned a lot about the universe, and about piloting. Then, in an unfortunate series of events, Bogna was killed, along with the rest of the crew, in a firefight with imperial forces on Kessel. After hearing of his master’s fate, Tiberius, now 16 years of age, took the ship and its cargo and fled the system. Thus, the Deception, was now lead by a new captain, and this captain would be the best caption it would ever see.

Chapter 2: Chain of Command

Tiberius had come into the chain of command at the age of 16. His ship, the [i]Defiance[i/] was a heavy freighter never registered in any Imperial records. It was armed with two kinds of weapon systems. The ship’s pilot could use a set of twin autocannons and 2 photon launchers. The other system could be manned by the rest of the crew. It consisted of 2 turboblasters, an ion cannon, and a torpedo launcher. The second system was added by the previous Captain several years ago.

The ship had several parts to it. The bridge was in bow, like any other ship, along with the exit ramp. On the port side, the cargo room took up most of the space. At the stern was the engine room and armory. The starboard side had all the rooms and medical ward. In the center of the ship were the navi-computer, the communication systems,  and a “borrowed” galactic map. The previous Captain spent most of his time in here studying the galaxy and other notes. No one was allowed to look at these notes. The turboblasters were on the port and starboard, while the ion cannon and the torpedo launcher were on the top and bottom of the ship in the center.

Tiberius was the only survivor of a major conspiracy. Bogna, the previous Captain, was delivering some spice between several systems for a contact. At his last stop, he ordered Tiberius to stay with the ship while the rest of the crew, heavily armed, delivered the cargo. All went well, until Imperial Stormtroopers attacked and slaughtered the smugglers. Luckily one of them sent a signal to the [i]Defiance[i/] warning Tiberius of the Imperial presence on the system. Tiberius had fled the system by the time the stromtroopers arrived at the hanger.

Safely away from the Empire’s ships, Tiberius decided to see what secrets the ship had. There was no use in feeling despair for the loss of the crew. No one really cared for him besides the Captain. By accessing the Captain’s logs, Tiberius had discovered so much. Like apparently, their last smuggling mission wasn’t a spice run. Bogna was delivering stolen Imperial weapons, including some prototype weapons. He was supposed to deliver them to rebel correspondents at 5 locations, but Bogna had said there were only 4 stops.

Looking deeper into the logs, Tiberius found that the last location was not a system, but coordinates in deep space. Looking them up on the galactic map, the coordinated specified somewhere beyond the outer rim. [i]Why would anyone go out there?[i/] Tiberius decided to put the coordinates into the navi-computer and finish the job. He was alone with all the credits from the previous runs in a dead man’s account. Being so young, Tiberius had no idea where else to go. He took the helm, and flew for deep space.

After reaching deep space, Tiberius was amazed to what he found. Instead of a few ships to meet him, an entire rebellion fleet! There were at least 5 capital ships here awaiting his arrival. Then one of the ships was hailing him.

>>This is the [i]Avenger[i/]. Welcome Captain Bogna. We are excited to see you have arrived.<<

Tiberius responded

>>Captain Bogna is dead. He was killed trying to deliver cargo to one of your previous correspondents. This is Captain Tiberius, and I’m raising your end of the deal. Double your payment if you want your precious weapons.<<

This angered the rebellion captain, so the Admiral had to intervene.

>>This is Admiral DuVag. Why should we pay you double, when we could just board your ship?<<

>>Because my ship is out of range of your tractor beam and I could just turn around and hand these over to the Empire. I’m sure they would love to get these back.<<

>>What the. . . You have a lot of nerve talking to me like that kid! Do you know who you are dealing with!?<<

>>Yes I do: an outlaw whose position I can tell the Imperial fleet along with the names of your ships and correspondents. Now do we have a deal?<<

>>Fine. We will double your pay. Now dock into the [i]Avenger[i/] so we can collect our shipment.<<

>>You must really think I’m stupid. This is not my first smuggling job. If you want your weapons, then you can pick them up after I get the money. A single shuttle with no escort will fly with the credits in an unmarked container to my ship, and I will hive the pilot your shipment.<<

>>How do I know you won’t just take the credits and run?<<

>>Two reasons. The first is I would never be able to escape your fleet’s turbolasers. The second is if I get caught with these weapons I will be a dead man. Now do we have a deal or not?<<

>>Fine. Deal. Just have the weapons ready when we get there.<<

Surly enough, Tiberius had the shipment ready when the shuttle arrived. Using the shuttles airlock, the pilot and Tiberius exchanged containers after making sure everything was accounted for. Without hesitation, Tiberius fled back into known space. He didn’t want to spend any more time with the rebellion. Looking like an accomplice to them would not be smart, and his reputation would be hurt if he started off as part of a group that he doesn’t agree with entirely.

Tiberius decided to head to Nar Shaddaa. Bogna had a private hideout out in the middle of nowhere, which was perfect in his eyes. No harm could be done by searching the private quarters of the former Captain. For all he knew, Tiberius might find something useful, like where to get a crew. He would need a crew if he wanted to pull off big runs, and a good crew doesn’t come from one place.

Chapter 3: Old Relations

Nar Shaddaa was always a smugglers paradise. With so many crime lords and bounty hunters here, it would take an entire fleet to take the system, making it a waste of the Empire’s credits. The planet is mostly rubble with very little to offer anyone besides space and storage. Many bounty hunters also find sanctuary here from Imperial officers, but most of the population has ties to smuggling.

As Tiberius cleared the atmosphere, he couldn’t help but notice the smog in the air. This was not his first time to the system, but when the sky is dark in the middle of the summer, one always feels sick. Tiberius skimmed the sensors till he found the signal for Bogna’s hanger. It was out in the middle of nowhere, but that is the best place to hide from one’s enemies.

As Tiberius landed in the make-shift hanger, the local systems greeted him with the same pre-recorded message Bogna had recorded so many years ago. I need to change that now. Bogna you ignorant nerf herder. Why did you take that job? Tiberius lowered the landing pad and walked out into the open air. It reeked, but it was familiar smell.

Tiberius made his way over to the old bar. Here he had shared great times in between jobs with the rest of the crew. Now the shelves were running low, but there was no point in re-stocking them. Not yet at least.

Tiberius moved on to his old quarters. He opened the old creaky door to find that his room was a cluttered mess of cloths, beer bottles, and other things. He ignored the mess and immediately went to his closet and pulled out a huge silver container. Inside were an E-11 blaster, a DH-11 blaster pistol, and 3 thermal detonators. This was his personal armory. His other equipment was still on board the Defiance.

Closing the container again, he went to Bogna’s quarters. Inside the room was rather clean. There was a bed, a desk with a computer terminal, a closet, and some monitors on the wall. Tiberius decided to log in to Bogna’s computer, hacking his password. It consisted manly of records and maps of major systems, but then Tiberius stumbled across a suspicious file. It was a prisoner release notice for a man named Bones.

Bones was an ex-bounty hunter who specialized in the use of sniper rifles. Bones was captured with over 15 rifles in his possession. His last mission was to kill an Imperial Commander who was responsible for capturing several systems. He was successful, but was caught by an Imperial Star Destroyer moments after leaving the planet’s atmosphere.

Hmmm. This guy may be useful. . . Oh what’s this? . . . .Interesting. I never knew Bogna was a bounty hunter? This explains how he knows Bones. . . somewhat. Looks like Bones is currently on Imperial watch. Not for long, but I may need some help.

With that Tiberius went to the garage and fired up the landspeeder. He was heading into town hoping to find some people he can hire. Maybe even some crewmembers. Anyways it was a long drive to town, and Tiberius had to think about what he would say. After all, he was still only 16.
