Set in the future, just in case you were wondering. It will also be in many instalments. It's my first post in a while, I'm taking it slow.

“You know those days where you wish you could just start over? You know, those days where everything thing seems to go wrong and nothing goes your way? Well, I was having one of those days. Not that I wanted everything to go my way. If there was anything that I had learned from living, particularly from serving in the army, it would have to be that life sucked: I lost my arm after a frakin Marsh Haunt ate it, I was an accident child, abused emotionally and physically, and was taken advantage of the day I got up, left my family, and boarded a shuttle to Naboo. It killed me to see these new, up and coming recruits. Each one was challenge to everything I had suffered for: my position, my livelihood. Everything was at stake…

“But anyway, I guess you want to hear about my bad day. You should take a seat. It’s a long winded story. If you don’t feel like sitting down, shutting up, and listening, then quite frankly, there is the door. Now, if you do want to stay and listen then I guess probably start telling you.

“In my life, I have only known pain and suffering. Some hope, I guess, but mostly pain and suffering. I’ve learned not to expect hope. It just kinda happens. Everyone has that one person they lean on, and hell, even I had that person. Yes, had, but that’s a different story. My current story takes place, oh, five years ago or so. I had taken some well earned leave on Ralltiir. I wanted to get lost a little, live, be myself. Before I knew it, night had fallen. Humans are the native species of Ralltiir, but it’s surprising how many non-humans come out to play at night. I personally sought refuge in a cantina that was open until the early hours. Maybe it was the music, maybe it was the familiar smell of spice, I don’t know, but I was drawn to this place all the same. I entered. Finding myself temporarily blinded by the brightness of the room, I bumbled around, eventually making it to the bar.”

‘What will you have?’

‘Sorry?’

‘I said, what will you have?’

‘Oh, right. Um, set me up with something light. I need to find my way back after tonight.’

“The bartender nodded gruffly. I could see him in the corner of my eye as I turned to survey the cantina. He surveyed me as he got my drink.”

‘Don’t go causing trouble tonight.’

‘What?’ I said, turning back to face him.

‘You hard of hearing? I said, don’t go causing trouble.’

‘Wasn’t planning on it.’

“Maybe he didn’t like my tone, but the next thing I knew, there was a blaster in my face.”

‘Is that really necessary?’ I asked him.

‘I said, don’t go causing any trouble.’

“I nodded my head once, slowly, slipped more than enough credits across the bar’s surface, stood up, and backed away. I didn’t break eye contact though until he lowered his gun, which he only did after he glanced down to count the credits lying in front of him.

“When I saw that he was satisfied, I turned around to find a seat and critically watch the dancers that were on the stage.”
