Everything has an exclamation point behind it!

I think I'll throw out something that popped into my head today while I was at the factory

Someone mentioned the idea of having a rebel world under seige or something like that? I think I might be able to come up for a reason for it?
Let me tell you in story format...
- OOC:
- On the world of D______, a small colony of interstellar travelers and colonizers has lived a lonely existence for the last century. When a precious resource is discovered, though, the once isolated community finds itself under siege by giant corporate interests and galactic conquerors. The New Republic, privy to the news first, claims it's stake- but will it be able to fend off the legions of outsiders? In a climate with the potential for riches and glory, new villains will withdraw from their shadows, new heroes will arise, and the fate of a little planet that everyone had forgotten about will change forever.
I was thinking that the planet would have one major colony. The people there would (for the most part) work in the mines. They make a decent living shipping their resource off planet, but have little hope or dreams beyond settling down and eating every day. The resource they mine is thought to be in such small quantity that the planet has never really meant anything. However, when a giant resevoir is found- the planet becomes a prime target for anyone who needs it. I've got a few ideas about it

Anyone else got ideas?
