Raziel and I cooked up a fun, and hopefully helpful little friendly competition for you guys. This is open to ANYONE, and I mean that anyone (except SL's since they are rating people) that would like to participate can. We would love to see an entry from everyone.

You guys are going to come up with some story concepts that could and should be used by squads in the near future. Raz and I will pick the top 4 then the SL's will rate those and decide the top winner who will receive 50,000 IC's. Any story used by an SL will receive author's credit for the idea.

This is a great opportunity for you guys to show us the kind of stories you want to participate in.

The rules:
  • Needs to be a complete idea, with a basic outline potentially for the squad to follow.
  • Should be able to be used by any squad so don't make it sqaud specific.
  • Make sure you give a detailed description of any NPC's that will appear in the story, wiki pages wouldn't hurt too.
  • Provide links to any planets/organizations/locations you are using for us to look at.

So entries are in an what is going to happen now is that each SL gets to pick their top four stories in order. Send me and havock a pm as follows:

The stories have not been done in a uniform format, but want I want the SL's to do is rank their favourite stories based on the concept of the idea and whether you think it would work well for your squad as a runon.

If you want to use the story for your squad's runon and no one else has picked it as their first choice you can use it. If two people pick the same one I'll flip a coin and the loser gets their second choice!

Please let me know in your PM if you do NOT want to use a story from the competition for your squads next runon.

Story #1 Patrol


Basic outline-

Whichever squad involved is posted to Eriadu. They join up with existing NPC units already on the planet. The reason they are posted is mainly to do with stability/oppression seen as we took the system fairly recently. The population are slightly restless.

Meanwhile, a smuggler organisation on planet (which is unnamed and entirely VE-universe) is lead by Parner Ral who misinterprets the new arrivals. He immediately believes that they have been placed to wipe out his group or any smugglers nearby. As a result when the squad goes out on a fairly normal patrol they are attacked by a small group of smugglers. Think ambushed in a fairly busy street, some precision shooting and maybe a few explosives. Naturally the squad survives, but none of the smugglers do.

With no way of knowing who attacked them, save for some convenient clues on the bodies (address of a pub, tattoo's and similar) the squad uses these clues to try and find out wtf happened. At some point the SL could choose to have another attack of some kind. After a stint going around an urban environment terrorising and investigating, the squad finds out about a smuggler group lead by Parner Ral, and the location. This is in some "abandoned" buildings some distance from the city.

Possibly with or without a scout/skirmish at the location, the squad returns with a platoon or so of NPC troopers and attacks the location. At this point it becomes fairly routine, fighting and taking buildings or even fighting outside, clever smugglers with unusual weapons. Take one or two grounded ships. Parner Ral is found, captured/killed, along with most of the smugglers.

The plot sounds short, but there is time before the patrol for plenty of CD, and then the attack itself can last several posts. Then you will always get plenty of posts from searching bars and related CD. Then you have things actually getting done nearer the end.

NPC's-

Imperial trooper NPC's- The most unutterably boring people on earth. Very official and uniform. The troopers can naturally have human touches during interaction, but none of them have a personality or name unless someone wants to give them one for CD etc.

Smugglers- Reckless, varying skill, unusual variety of weaponry and abilities. Unexpected occurences, unpredictable. Fun to fight

Parner Ral- Middle aged man, in his late fourties or early fifties. Surprisingly good in a fight, particularly good at shooting with accuracy. In addition to whatever gun/s he gets a hold of, he has a holdout pistol hidden on his person. Also pretty damn strong, if it gets to close quarters. As for leadership, a good leader and damn strict. The organisation itself is relaxed, but if he says to do something, everyone does it.

In terms of personality, fairly reckless and bold. Also fairly suspicious but for good reasons. Very unpredictable.

But always remember that he is a good leader, and damn good at what he does. Sure he is flawed, but he's good enough for that to not matter.

Story #2 Hack


A mischievous group of people/organization that's been wanted for a while (Hells Angels-style or something maybe..?)  anyway a known criminal organization [insert whatever you want]  has hacked into the Vast Empire's network and are interested in obtaining [insert whatever you want here, examples can be a missiles system, some piece of software, Intel that we obtained not long ago, a weapon under development...] A higher-up finds out there's been a security breach via a memo from a lower-ranking, fellow officer and assembles one or more squads to take care of the threat.

Whomever wants whatever we have of interest is due planet-side shortly, a long battle ensues, the Corps gets infiltrated...Use whatever your imagination wants.

As for how that all ends...it's up to you

Outline:

The Black Sun Organization on Eriadu is gearing up to make a raid on the Vast Empire and the Intelligence Division got wind of it and is sending a Stormtrooper Squad to do a preemptive strike on them before they can do that raid. The Squad objective is to capture the daughter of the Overwatcher of the Task Force on Eriadu. After the capture is complete they are to escort the target back to Army Headquarters. When they get to the pickup point the squad is ambushed and has to go to the secondary pick up point.

Mission Objectives: Snatch and Grab

1.    Capture the target.
2.    Get target to pick up point.
3.    Leave a message to the targets father.
4.    Get squad off of planet.

Enemy Strength:

The task force aka. Despoiled Halo has 20 men with various weapons. They also have accesses to grenades of different kinds.

The method of entering the building:

The method that I suppose is that the Squad enters the building on the second floor though one or both of the windows.

Story #4 Hide and Seek

Insert Squad Name here ends up on a VE fortress planet due to temporary assignment to garrison/training the garisson in their speciality/hyperdrive malfunction on the ship transporting them/ some combination of the above. Soon after they arrive (maybe 4-5 posts in, or a few more), things start to go wrong. Power generators show flickers, areas are "accidentally" sent into lockdown, erroneous orders are sent via datapad, supply shuttles are inadvertently fired upon...

Then the lights go out, back-up generators are destroyed, and a Rebel/Thrawnist/Insert Enemy Here fleet appears in orbit...

Initially, the squads would start at a landing pad. The introductory posts would make it clear that the fortress planet is...a fortress planet. Army troopers would be shown as well-trained and armed, there would be stormtroopers everywhere, gun batteries and reinforced walls, blast doors everywhere...

The squad would need clearance and security checks to go through most places, despite their elite status. Those performing the checks would be very distrustful, but not overly so. Basically, the whole place is in a constant state of high-alert.

Every couple of posts, have something go wrong as above. Basically, there's something going terribly wrong at the fortress despite the precautions, and the garrison would really like to find out what it is. They're confident they can handle it without the help of a single specialist squad, though, especially since the squad's considered a suspect for some of the problems.

As it turns out, eventually, the generators all shut down at the same time, several barracks go up in smoke, and the shield generator facility goes dark and stops responding. The planet's been quite thoroughly infiltrated by non-VE special forces, with some of the fortress garrison replaced by commandos (a few troopers, technicians, maybe even part of the base's gunnery crews). As the shields and fortress guns shut down, an enemy fleet appears in orbit and starts to fire on the orbital stations. Without the means to fire the fort's guns, reactivate the shield, or even properly organize their forces, the fort's defenders are going to be in for a world of hurt.

That's where the squad comes in. They're supposed to turn the power back on and basically save the day. Of course, they're not going to know what the problem is for quite a while or until they run into an infiltrator in Imperial clothing.

For the fortress, I'm thinking "Bastion" from the EU, only on a smaller scale. Maybe one big complex with smaller ones across the rest of the planet?

Maybe a moon instead, to keep things managable? At a "hyperspace reversion point" or "hyperspace junction" or some such technobabble?

Vigil? Tigrane? Debalock? I don't know, I'm not good at coming up with names.

Summary:

Part #1

Introductory Post:
Squad lands, for whatever reason. Should give feeling of GUNS, GUNS EVERYWHERE, and some paranoia.
If because of temporary assignment to garrison or specialized training, assigned and shown to their quarters. They are watched carefully but not overly so; see above.
If because of ship problems, as above, but with more paranoia. Things are starting to go wrong, and a visiting squad of stormtroopers sounds like a cover story.

Squad's shown to barracks, given datapads with maps. Weapons confiscated at landing, asked to keep on shuttle? Have armed guards at every corridor. Access to armoury restricted, to show paranoia.

Have cantina, off-duty guards inside? Opportunity to give the guards personalities beyond "scowl and saying 'move along'".

Lights flicker? Blast doors close and refuse to open? Have guards mutter to selves and explain that they've been having problems for the past few days. Com-link superiors to get it fixed?

Introduce one or two of the infiltrators at this point? Have squad meet technicians/garrison squad/off-duty gunnery crew? Infiltrators should seem normal, maybe overly friendly or terse?

A few posts in, Part #2. Lights go out, blast doors seal. Everyone's in confusion. Squad breaks out, hears contradictory orders over coms. Distant thumps, like explosions. Much more static over comlinks. Squad runs into garrison squad. Squad confused, no idea what's going on. Squad Leader trying to get the troopers following him to follow standard drills (make way to assembly point and wait for orders). The group hears blasterfire, runs into squad of armed infiltrators as they're killing a group of troopers. Infiltrators should be well armed (rifles and repeaters) but lightly armoured. If Thrawnist/Imperial, storm commandos. If Rebels, rebel infiltrators. Posts should give sense that they're on the same level as the squad. Maybe have them be silent, use gestures, give sense of efficiency?

Part #3. Shooting-fest later, the squad finds a functioning console, discovers problem of fleet. Told to try and restore power by Someone Important. Thrawnists want to capture fort, not destroy it, so they wouldn't have blown up the generators. Squad shoots way to generators, restores power, saves day. Maybe have other objectives (recapture gun batteries, shields) if the squad's attention span hasn't wandered or it doesn't come off as video-gamey.

Story #5 The Pentastar’s Secret Armory


Summary: The Vast Empire has caught word of the Pentastar Alignment arming itself. Rumors have spread of secret armories springing up on several planets. One such rumor tells of Arkanis, a large planet near the Vast Empire. The VE has sent one of its best squads to locate and destroy the armory, if the rumors are true.

Plot Outline:
-    Squad arrives on Arkanis in the relatively small city of Blackfyre.
-    Because of the armory’s secret nature, the squad must find leads.
-    At this point each squad member either, individually or paired up, go on his or her own to find leads.
-    Most of Blackfyre’s residents point to a small garrison of Pentastar troops 3 kilometers from Blackfyre.
-    Squad meets at the local tavern, Star’s End, to discuss the next course of action.
-    The squad now travels to the garrison, allowing for some CD to be accomplished.
-    Upon arrival, the squad surveys some heavily armed troops leaving the garrison.
-    Now comes a choice for the squad, either attack directly or stealth their way in. The objective at this point is to reach the main computer.
-    The main computer reveals that the garrison the squad now occupies is on top of the armory, connected by a single elevator.
-    The squad takes the lift down to the armory and sets their charges, which in turn sets off alarms.
-    The story ends with a final battle in the armory as the timer counts down.
-    Naturally, the squad escapes just before the explosion.

Note: This is, of course, mainly an outline. The squad can’t be expected to follow this to the letter, which means it may be up to both the squad leader and assistant squad leader to improvise if the squad members go a little astray. This story is meant to be flexible.

Arkanis:
Arkanis is a large planet that was once a bustling metropolis. War and strife destroyed most of the cities, resulting in a dusty wasteland that now covers the planet. Its most notable city is Blackfyre, a small city that fights for the right to be the capital city. The planet’s population is mostly human.

Blackfyre:
A small city located in the southern hemisphere of Arkanis. Blackfyre is also called Hicktown by both locals and visitors to the planet. Population is over 3,000.

NPCs: The NPCs in this story are not very important. Most of the NPC interactions will be with the local townspeople, who can be named by the squad members if they wish and enemies, which will be shooting at you. Duh.

So the scores from the squad leaders have been tallied. Each entry gets 4pts for a first choice, 3pts for every 2nd choice, 2 for each 3rd and 1 for each 4th

And now . . . drumroll . . .

In joint fourth place with 9pts each:

We had to roll a a dicebot to seperate garryl and doc as they had chosen exactly the same stories 1 to 4!


edit by Havvie: sorry Raz, I had already picked Skarr's story, having him run it himself so he can practice Just swapped Raiders and BJ's story.
