The view from the platform on the bridge of the Victory-II class Star Destroyer was one of amazing proportions. The seasoned pilot, now turned officer, took in the beauty of the nebulae as he observed the space surrounding Abrae, the home of the Vast Empire Naval Headquarters. Although the planet had a bit of a plain look, this is where he had taken part in a majority of his training throughout his career in the Vast Empire Navy. Hundreds of simulation scenarios, written exams, and most important, time spent with friends. It had some sort of "sentimental" feeling to it, Jaden thought, as the capital ship hung overhead.
Jaden Khaar was now the commander of this star ship, known to the Navy as the
Dead Gun. It was nearly as old as he, and the looks of the ship showed it. From the outside many scars from battle could be seen on the hull of the ship, although the hulls rating itself remained in excellent condition. It had seen enough time in between repair yards, but the war torn battleship was in prime condition. The shielding system was also running in tip top shape, along with a brand new generator to make sure it could withhold nearly anything thrown against it. Inside, the interior had been completely overhauled. It was in pristine condition, compared to it's brethren that had been commissioned at the same time. Though it was aged, the ships firepower matched that of any Star Destroyer in the fleet. To complement everything else, this capital ship housed three squadrons; the 58th Vast Imperial Fighter Wing, known as
Javelin Wing.
Jaden was snapped back into reality as one of his lieutenants coughed to grab his attention. The long haired officer stopped in his tracks as Jaden gave him a stiff glare.
"Yes Lieutenant Harris?" said Jaden, in a rough tone.
"Sir, a systems check shows we are running at 100% efficiency. All crew members are accounted for, and we're waiting for your orders. Shall we hold position?"
"Yes, Lieutenant. We will be holding here for some time, until I come into contact with my superiors. I'm going to step away for some time, you may assume command for the time being."
"Yes sir!" said Harris, snapping with a salute. Jaden quickly returned and stepped away from the platform.
1st Lieutenant R.T. Harris was the Executive Officer of the ship, second in command of the
Dead Gun. He had been serving the Vast Empire for nearly ten years, and was a bit overzealous at times. Though his excitement was a good sign of character, it became a bit... annoying at times. Given, he had some of the greatest tactical skills known to any one person aboard the Dead Gun, which was one skill that this ship would definitely need in the future.
This kid sure does like to make sure I'm updated on whats going on around here... which isn't necessarily a bad thing.Jaden stepped off of the command post and made his way to his personal quarters. He was patiently waiting for word from Captain Stormz and Vice Admiral Denethor about the current state of the Navy, as well as word about his next order of business. For now, he would relax and patiently await the coming news.

A few hours later, Jaden was now strolling through the halls of his newly assigned ship. Being a captain meant he would have to know and cherish each and every inch of the craft that he was commanding. It was even better to know that the entire Star Fighter Corps had moved their Base of Operations to the Dead Gun, because he would be that much closer to his fellow pilots. Having a closely knit relationship with the pilots meant that he would be a better commander to them in the long run, which was his number one goal as Javelin Wing Commander.
The Line Captain had now made his way to the port-side turbolaser emplacements, where he found his Weapons Officer, Malachi Hzarr, scolding the weapons crew overseer about making sure that everything was in tip top shape. Jaden grinned as he approached the man, who now had sweat dripping down his forehead. The weapons overseer snapped to attention as the ship captain presented himself. Jaden quickly returned the salute and let out a chuckle as Hzarr ordered the man back to his post immediately.
"Having yourself quite the time I see?" said Jaden.
"Heh, most of the time I've got to give them hell. Half of these kids can't get it through their heads that at any time we could be deployed into action or be in the sights of the enemy," said Kai, out of breath. "You seem to be doing alright, how's it going on the other end?"
Jaden shook his head, looking towards the ground. "I'm just getting sick and tired of sitting here waiting. I realize I'm a fresh captain, and I should be cherishing this time I have with no action... but," Jaden let out a sigh.
"But what?" Kai interrupted. "I'm just as ready as you are to see some action. It's been quite some time since this ship has seen any as well, but I feel for you. Any word from upstairs?"
Jaden pulled out a cigarette and gave it a light, "Nope. I'm still waiting."
Taking a drag from the cigarette, Jaden followed Kai in step as they surveyed the gun emplacements. The two chit chatted for quite some time about war stories, their bellows of laughter could be heard throughout the entire room. The two men had been good friends for much longer than the ship captain could remember. He was the only person that Jaden could trust running the entire weapons operations aboard the Dead Gun. The man had it all figured out. He had been dealing with weapons systems since before the Galactic Civil War, and knew anything and everything there was to know.
"So," said Jaden, taking the last drag off of the cigarette before dropping it to the ground and stamping it out with his boot, "Make sure you check out the starboard side before stepping out for a break, who knows when I'll get a call for us to be heading out."
"You got it, I'll send a report your way once we're finished."
The two men parted ways, Jaden couldn't believe how intertwined he was with a few of the commanding officers aboard the ship. It was nice to have such a tightly knit crew, it made them stronger as one. Now, heading back to the bridge, Jaden knew it was time to check up on the other officers aboard the ship and make sure all reports checked out. Everything needed to be perfection, just in case the call came for duty.
I hate the waiting game...- OOC:
- I will be using this thread for Character Development in between stories, as well as providing a back story for my character as the officer and ship captain he has now become. Feel free to join in if you find some spare time
