- Course: Basic Electronics and Wiring
Course Type: Practical
Course Description: Troopers are expected to demonstrate their ability to wire various things on a battlefield. A lesson explaining circuits, basic wiring systems, and how they apply in modern electronics may foreshadow some sort of test.
Maran walked into the classroom labeled, "Combat Engineers" and took a seat near the front. The instructor was an old human, probably sixty or seventy, who's bald head was covered up by his brown duty cap.
Maran knew just a bit about electricity, but when he was choosing his specialty, he had decided a Combat Engineer would be very helpful to a squad.
In the front of the room, there were several complex diagrams on the wall which Maran correctly assumed were circuits. The instructor stood up and cleared his throat.
"Welcome to Combat Engineer class. In our time together you will learn to be one of the most effective units on a battlefield. It will not be easy and at points it will seem boring, but I assure you, once you complete this course, you will be very proud of your accomplishment," he said, taking a sip from a glass of water before continuing.
"Today we will be learning about circuits, basic wiring systems, and how these are applied in modern electronics. This is essential background information for the rest of this course, so you can expect to be tested soon," he continued, "We will begin with circuits. A circuit is an unbroken loop of conductive material that allows electrons to flow through continuously without beginning or end. If a circuit is "broken," that means its conductive elements no longer form a complete path, and continuous electron flow cannot occur in it. The location of a break in a circuit is irrelevant to its inability to sustain continuous electron flow. Any break, anywhere in a circuit prevents electron flow throughout the circuit."
Maran quickly scribbled down the notes on a datapad, making sure he mad a mental note of all the information as well.
"Now we will cover basic wiring systems. A wiring system is basically a lot of circuits connected to each other through one central control panel known as a 'circuit breaker.' From this control panel, you can break and reconnect the circuits at any time, therefore enabling you to control electric flow with the flip of a switch," the instructor explained.
"Now finally I will demonstrate how circuits and wiring systems are applied in modern electronics. Speeders are used in all corners of the Vast Empire. What enables these vehicles to work is a wiring system. When you turn on the speeder, it reconnects several circuits which will provide power to the different components of the speeder, such as the engine. Nearly every vehicle in existence contains a wiring system which powers it and that is how circuits and wiring systems are applied in modern electronics," the instructor finished.
Maran finished his notes and gripped his writing hand which now had a sharp ache in it. He had finished his first class, and even though he was tired, he was excited for the next lesson, and felt that he could have a bright future as an Engineer.
