Prefect's Report 1.24.10 AWOL Check AftermathAs you know, this past Monday we had the AWOL Check complete for the Wildcard Platoon. I won't lie to you, the results were not by any means positive; not that AWOL Checks ever are, but this particular one left us with a lot of empty spaces....or at least it did. Our Commander of Training has had a number of promising recruits graduate from the Academy recently so a good number of them have made their way to your squads. I am pleased to announce we have 5 spots left on the roster. If any of you watch the roster daily, you would know that on Tuesday we had a lot less people filling up the ranks.Squad SizesEver since we merged to one platoon months ago, a good number of you have been begging your superiors to revert back to nine (9) trooper squads. You have all had your reasons either to want or not want the old format back. After the recent AWOL Check it was determined that we no longer need those extra 3 slots. Some of you may be using 12 troopers or at least more than 9 in your squad stories, if this is the case: finish your story and use 9 in the next one.Storm PlatoonMost of you must be asking by now "If we only have 5 spots left to place recruits/returnees, what happens when we run out of room?" First off, I want to take the time to inform you that you need to pay extra close attention to your "dead weight" in the squad. It is vital that everyone that you have in your squad is either on leave and coming back or in your squad doing something. It gives us an accurate idea of how many people are around. That said, the plan is to open Storm Platoon back up. Now, before any of you get too excited about returning to your old squads, let me explain: the first squad to re-open in Storm will not be a new squad. I am sending one of the existing squads to be in Storm, as they will be operating with no Platoon Commander. I do not want to send a brand new squad to operate without a Platoon Commander. The new squad will operate out of Wildcard in place of whoever I send over. I also have selected the new Squad Leader, Assistant Squad Leader, and a trooper to go help start things off in the new Squad. As soon as we are full and no one can be removed or AWOLed, I will open up the new squad. IF that squad fills and we are still lacking room, THEN a Platoon Commander will be appointed and THEY will decide what squad opens up first.NPC Story ProgramOnce again, thanks to Senior Sergeant Anival for their modified suggestion of this. Many of you have been operating under the impression we only bring the people that are on the roster on a mission. This concept is completely false. Just because you have 4 people on the roster, does NOT mean 4 of you go off and do a mission. This concept would be completely and utterly inconceivable! Believe it or not, you actually bring 9 troopers with you every mission (or 12 in the past). Even the squads that we had to "close" are still in existence. How? You bring NPCs (Non-Playing Characters). One could argue that this will get out of hand and become confusing before long by adding and subtracting numbers all the time. I agree, and do not expect you to do this. Here's how it will work.
- Before starting your story, look at the roster.
- How many empty slots are on the roster? 4? 5?
- For each empty slot you have, bring a NPC along with you. The goal here is to bring 9 troopers total along.
- Control the NPC just as you would your own character.
- If any additional members join your squad, add them in however you normally would. Have them dropped on planet, have them fly a shuttle on planet, maybe even have them come in a unique way. However you do it : feel free to add them.
- Unlike most squad members, NPCs actually CAN be killed. Maybe you want to take this into account when you end up having a new person join mid-story.
- Who controls what NPC will be upto the Squad Leader. Just make sure you follow the steps above and NOT treat it as you bring x number of NPCs along EVERY TIME.
NPC CreationSo most of you must be somewhat curious by now, where do we get the NPCs from? Is there a list? Do we just invent people mid-story. What you actually do is create them. To keep things organized I have created a NPC Gallery for us to keep track of them. Creating a NPC is like creating a character for yourself: they need a bio, a wiki page, a proper name, and everything else that would go with the territory. A couple notes though people, please keep this organized. Each squad has a section for TROOPER NPCs that they have created (or if you have a personal NPC feel free to add that in as well). For those of you that need to create a generic NPC like a Crewman on the Dominion, there is a section for that. If you do not have a category and need to create a NPC: either just create one or ask. Furthermore, if you have a NPC that DOES die, please bold the title in the gallery. It will make from easy reference. Also, a note on ownership: if you are going to take from another Squad's NPC list, maybe consider asking them first? This way, especially for storyline purposes: we do not have a NPC in two storylines simultaneously.ClosingThis concludes this week's Prefect's Report. Have a good week everyone and keep up the hard work!
