Happy New YearWelcome back! Hopefully you all had a good holiday and enjoyed your vacations (where applicable). We have a lot of plans for this year, and hopefully we can accomplish all of them. In the meantime however, let's focus on the events at hand.Holiday Squad CompetitionWe say this every year but I am REALLY pleased with how this year's competition turned out. Here is something we DO NOT say every year though; aside from the first place squad, everyone was really more or less at the same level. There was an average of 1-5 points difference which tells me that you all gave it your all rather than have a squad massacred by its competition. At any rate, without further adieu I present your results:
1st Place - Wraith Squad 81%
2nd Place - Blackjack Squad 66%
3rd Place - RAIDERS Squad 61%
4th Place - Iron Horse Squad 60%
Congratulations to you all. And now onto everyone's favorite part of the competition - rewards.
Wraith Squad
- Gunnery Sergeant Ron - Promoted to Sergeant First Class and awarded the Cross of Zahn [CoZ].
- Sergeant Anival Velasquez - Promoted to Senior Sergeant

- Lance Corporal Corvin - Promoted to Corporal and awarded the Heart of the Champion [HotC]
- Private Hassar - Promoted to Private Second Class and awarded the Emperor's Shield 2nd Class [ES2]
- Private Second Class Specter - Promoted to Private First Class and awarded the Emperor's Shield First Class [ES1]
- Sergeant Slick - Awarded the Cross of Distinguished Service [CDS]
RAIDERS Squad
- Senior Sergeant Havock - Promoted to Sergeant First Class and awarded the Heart of the Champion [HotC]
- Second Lieutenant Aeos - Promoted to First Lieutenant and awarded the Crescent of Kadann [KAD]
- Sergeant Brightstar - Awarded the Emperor's Will 2nd Class
Iron Horse Squad
- Platoon Sergeant Saphira Striker - Promoted to First Sergeant and awarded the Iron Heart [IH]
- Sergeant Major Luckystar - Awarded the Heart of the Champion [HotC] and the Star of Sesswanna [SoS]
- Private First Class Adenn - Promoted to Private First Class
- Gunnery Sergeant Urakai - Promoted to Sergeant First Class and awarded the Cross of the Empire [CotE]
- Lance Corporal Madman - Promoted to Corporal and awarded the Emperor's Will Second Class.
Commanders
While it is true, without you guys participating in this competition we would not be in existence; it is also true that without your commanders creating and maintaining your competition there would be no competition for you to partake in. Therefore, I believe we owe them a little bit of praise.
Sergeant Decembrist - Not only did he participate in the competition but he covered most of Tanus' work for him while he was having PC difficulties. He is awarded a Ring of Merit [RoM], the Cross of Distinguished Service [CDS], AND Promoted to Senior Sergeant.
Second Lieutenant Jegora - this person made sure you all had a story and maintained an excellent one. Tireless work went into this competition by him and he definitely deserves his praise. I am awarding him the Red Crescent of Devotion [RCoD] as well as promoting him to First Lieutenant.
Second Lieutenant Sandwich Sam - aside from running our Department of Development, he managed to do all the graphics grading for the competition. Furthermore, he worked with Jegora to implement unique weapons just for the story (to name one such example). This is an overdue promotion but he is promoted to First Lieutenant and awarded the Red Crescent of Devotion [RCoD]
For those that have never heard of some of these medals, here is a quick review:
Cross of Zahn [CoZ]- At various times, there will be a few fine members of the Corps whose posts simply shine above the average, whose quality of writing is a joy to read and something for others to aspire to. These members lead the way in the hobby we share and deserve to be recognized for it, hence this award, given by the Corps to one of its own in gratitude for the skill and dedication they show. This medal may be awarded by Platoon Commanders and above.
Crystal Ring of the Soldier [CRoS] - Essentially the heart of any campaign and story is the plot - it encapsulates the environment which the characters are a part of. This story often starts with the commander of the unit, but rarely remains their sole province; instead, like plans for a battle, they are soon franchised out to the members in the story and often changed near beyond recognition by that process. This is rarely a bad thing, and sometimes can even be a great thing. This award recognises those members that achieve this greatness: the people who not only participate in the plot, but add to it in such a way that it becomes greater still. This medal may be awarded by Platoon Commanders and above.
Heart of the Champion [HotC] - Every story relies on the participation if its members. There is no story without posts being submitted and troopers taking part. However, some members do rise above their peers in, not only writing when they need to, but looking for posts they might write. These are the people who always manage to find something to offer up for their fellow troopers and always manage to give that little bit more of their time and effort in keeping the story or campaign alive and moving. This medal may be awarded by Platoon Commanders and above.
Crescent of Kadann [KAD] - The members make up the community, but their characters make up the core of the Vast Empire. Without them, there is no connection between the writers and the story they are writing for. Some writers, however, do manage to take this further: they manage to create vibrant, excellent characters that bring extra life to the groups they are a part of. This award recognizes those people who manage, through skill and dedication, to imagine and write up the complex, deep, interesting characters that form the basis of our connection with the Vast Empire. This medal may be awarded by Platoon Commanders and above.
Cross of the Empire [CotE] - An award which is given for reasons unknown by the Prefect of the Army.
Star of Sesswenna - Granted to stormtroopers who have been in service for a very long time. It is for loyal, persistent and dedicated members only. It may only be awarded by the Prefect of the Army.
Red Crescent of Devotion [RCoD] - A medal for the members of the Army that have increased morale and activity by keeping the attitude of the Army during hard times light and energetic. The Executive Officer and Army Commander may give out this medal.
Iron Heart [IH] - A medal for the troopers of the Vast Empire Army that have shown their bravery, courage, and honor by increasing a squad’s or platoon’s activity and having a major effect on the overall activity of the Regiment. The Regiment Commander and above may award this medal.
Cross of Distinguished Service [CDS] - Recipients of this medal are courageous soldiers who have helped the fleet in numerous inventive ways, and who are the role models of the Vast Empire Army. It may be awarded by Regiment Commanders and above.
Emperor's Will 1st Class [EW1], Emperor's Will 2nd Class [EW2] - Awarded to members who have shown dedication, loyalty, and outstanding activity in his/her platoon. This award has two classes: 1st Class and 2nd Class. The first is higher than the second. It may be awarded by Platoon Commanders and above.
Emperor's Shield 1st Class [ES1], Emperor's Shield 2nd Class [ES2] - The standard excellence award of the Vast Empire Stormtrooper Corps, it may be bestowed for any outstanding service. This award has two classes: 1st Class and 2nd Class. The first is higher than the second. This medal can be granted by Squad Leaders.
From the Academy- Kanderin Draken our Commander of Training is looking for two additional Drill Instructors to aid him in the training of recruits. To apply or send an inquiry about the job: contact him via Comnet PM or IRC.
- Private Drexhel has been placed in Blackjack Squad
- Private Zerohito has been placed in Wraith Squad
- Both trainees have been awarded the Cadet Program Certification [CPC] and promoted to Private First Class for an excellent exam score.
Callsign InformationMost of you have some sort of change to make to your ID Line today whether it be a new medal, a new rank, maybe both? At any rate, make sure you are updating this information EVERYWHERE! This is not being done lately, and it is important that you do this all the time. Namely, there are 4 places information should be updated:
- Your Comnet Signature
- Your callsign profile (this is done either at the roster or the bank)
- Wiki Pages
- Web Pages
This is just a general courtesy we ask that you do us so when we go to check out your profile, WHEREVER we go will be accurate. For example, this most recent time I had to check 2-3 different places for some of you, it was not fun.State of ThingsAs you all know, I have asked your Squad Leaders to do a follow-up mission to the main story. Whether this gets included in your stories or not, this is the aftermath of your deeds in Arkania. Over the next month or so (from the time your posts ended) our forces will be focusing our efforts into fully suppressing the riots in every city and occupy them. After that time our forces will be rotated off planet and replaced by Security Corps Personnel. Three month's time will have passed before only Security Corps Personnel are on planet along with a Stormtrooper Contingent in a Prefabricated base to exert a military presence. The ISD Dominion will have returned to Tadath after a mere few weeks but smaller warships will be left behind to ensure order. So where does this leave us? Between this mission AND the end of your squad story that you are writing now, time will have passed a little over a month. Hopefully, this will pave the way for a bigger jump in the future.Future HappeningsI am going to be re-posting a yearly calendar for you all but basically the next major competition will be in March (more details on that to come). Also there will be some more restructuring and new activities coming your way. In the meantime however, all I can say is that if you have any ideas pass them along through the proper channels. I've heard of a couple already. For those that want to know (I've been asked this countless times) yes, I do plan on re-opening Storm this year but it depends entirely on our member count. Furthermore, if we do open Storm: YES, we will cut the squads back down to 9 trooper slots. That is all the information I can release with complete certainty.ImprovementsI just wanted to take time out to say that I've noticed a vast improvement in behavior since we kicked off the New Year and you all deserve a pat on the back for that. Maybe it's me being hopeful, or maybe it's something else. Either way, if we can keep the rest of the year going as smoothly as we have been then I would say we are in for a great year.ClosingOnce again, congratulations to you all. For those wondering, the special prizes will be awarded down the road from now as well as the special campaign medals that are given out for major campaigns. Keep up the good work everyone! Let's make 2010 better than 2009 was!

Just a quick add on -
I've decided because of the unexpected demand in DI spot's, and the fact we do have a maximum of five positions available, I'll be looking for three new Drill Instructors.
