Holiday Squad Competition 2009 For those of you who have been with us a very short time, you most likely have no clue whatsoever as to what the red emboldened words above mean. However, to those of you who have been with us for a while now: you are aware that it is time for our annual holiday competition. A little reminder to all of you, this is called the HOLIDAY competition for a reason: we are here to celebrate the holidays - all of them. Around the world there are many different holidays that get celebrated. For us here in the United States, some form of Christmas is usually the common choice. There is also Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Solstice, Ramadan, and many others. All holidays at this time of year are acceptable forms of celebrating! Now, a quick overview of what you are in for this year.Writing - 40% The heart of the HSC is the HSC storyline, upon which you post with your squad to earn squad points that will be 40% of your total score. Since we recently have a Tactical Department in the Corps whose job is to ensure that we are writing to our maximum potential: it is only fitting that we let them handle this section of the HSC. Yes, you heard right. Jegora will be grading the writing section of the HSC. I have the following notes to pass along from the Tactical Department:
Tactical Department wrote:- No word count
- Posts must at least move the story along somehow to be counted for points.
- Horrid posts will result in minus points.
- As a reminder, character development is fine, just DO NOT make it your entire post. Also, remember where you are and what you SHOULD be doing.
Remember our emphasis is quality over quantity, so it wouldn't be unheard of for posts to go "missing" without your approval (especially with such a big story). or for plot twists to be tossed in. Now, I want to take a little time to quickly go over a few points for the story-part of this HSC. Unlike previous years the HSC's storyline is actually going to move time along a little bit. (not by much, but enough) This means we will not be having the usual storyline that exists in its own realm where you don't touch on what actually happened until a year of real world time later. For those wondering what I mean by this NO TIME HAS PASSED SINCE 10-2007. Anyways, there will be quite a large scale of stormtroopers available to use, not just your own. Jegora will be explaining all this to you later when the story begins but just realize for those of us fairly new here we are in 9 ABY, Thrawn hates us, the New Republic hates us, and we are currently in a campaign to eventually take Courscant and the Core worlds. Currently, we are taking inner-rim planets one by one. For the HSC we will be taking Arkania by force in an attempt to majorly disrupt New Republic trade routes. As I said earlier, Jegora will tell you more but I just want all of you aware to be careful of your posts this is an important mission to all of us....most of all though have fun with it.Gaming - 25% And now we come to the easiest to participate in, yet most controversial topic:: gaming. Despite many common beliefs, playing yahoo pool does NOT constitute as gaming. Playing Star Wars: Jedi Outcast on the other hand: does. This year, gaming submissions need to be turned in to Tanus Solvona and Decembrist (otherwise known as the Platoon Staff).
Platoon Staff wrote:- Games need to be either military or star wars based and be multiplayer (check first if you are unsure of your game in case it gets denied points)
- HOW you prove your game is your decision, screenshot is the desired method, but we need to be able to confirm beyond a doubt that you DID play said game.
Graphics - 20% One of our most popular things during the HSC. Basically any canvas or medium is accepted. As long as it retains a Star Wars and Christmas theme you can use it. IT MUST BE YOUR OWN WORK THOUGH! There will be a separate thread for you to post them in. Like the past 2 years, there will be seperate awards for Graphics, but they will also count towards official activity. As is the case with the writing section being graded by the Tactical Department, the graphics section of the competition will be graded by the Department of Development. Submissions must therefore be sent to Sandwich Sam.
Department of Development wrote: Each submission is subject to the following: a) Theme (2) - Basic and simple criterion that focuses upon whether or not the work submitted is within the holiday theme. b) Quality (10) - This criterion is focused upon the overall quality of the art produced. It also covers the originality of the work. It looks at whether or not it is merely a collage of web images or a hand crafted piece. c) Creativity (8) - This criterion focuses on the scene depicted in the work. It will look at how well the scene is put together and maintained. How the scene depicts appropriate story details that is if the work is intended to do so. Submission Thread: http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/13203/page/0/
Imperial Holiday Ball - 5% Usually a big hit with all of you, there will be a holiday ball this year. For those wondering, the timeline will take place before we depart on our mission. The Ball will not be started right away but will commence soon. Basically, as long as you keep your posts decent they will get you points. (Feel free to insert uber CD)Recruiting - 5% As most of you know, lately we have a rather large emphasis on recruitment. For those of you that recruit, send notice into Riqimo and he will keep tabs on them for you and determine (depending if they stay or not) if you will be able to earn points from that recruit. The Army always wants to see new members to the Vast Empire and desires to see them become an active contributer to the Corps. To reflect this, 5% of your total score can be earned by recruiting new members. You will only recieve points for a trooper that graduates the academy before the competition's end. If they do exceptionally well, we may reward extra points for the recruit (so help them out, don't just let them stumble around the academy ). In addition these recruits will recieve an additional 10,000 ICs upon graduation of the Academy, obtain placement into a squad and posted their "Hello" post on the squad topic. ALL recruits must have selected your name at time of application under "Recruited By:" in order to give you points. The top recruiters should recieve awesome prizes. (If your recruit recruits someone else, you get half points for that recruit, and if that recruit recruited by the recruit you recruited recruits another recruit [try saying that fast], you get a quarter of a points, and so on)Miscellaneous - 5% Miscellaneous stuff often goes unnoticed. Whether it be wiki editing, the squad tags, whatever...anything that is activity that doesn't have an official category will go here. For most of you, this can be an easy 5 points, but those squads that have troopers bitching and raising riots will lose points. So yes, good teamwork also gets you points.Challenges and Rewards As a new feature to the competition this year, we present to you the "AHC Challenge". The AHC will be doing things right alongside each of you and depending on if you can beat the AHC and by how much will determine what kind of reward you will get. Anything can happen from earning extra bonus points to earning special rewards that we cannot announce.
The squad with the most points at the end will win a special reward. Best of luck to all the squads. Any questions may be posted here, or answered by the AHC and Platoon Staff when on IRC.
Be sure to join #HSC on irc.vastempire.com in order to keep up with the competition!
Scoring starts.... NOW! Good luck to all!

For those that actually knew it was happening: The Imperial Ball has been delayed; thanks to a compu-explosion and Storm [CENSORED]sucker over Baltimore. Long story, but yeah, might be awhile, some of it's on my phone still, but some needs reconstructed.
