Introduction

Welcome to the first of a series of reports that will serve to keep all you informed hopefully on a wide array of projects and other details that should affect the Vast Imperial Navy as a whole.  These reports will at the very least be biweekly, or every week, depending on happenings from my office.

The Logistics Officer

First off, just what is the Logistics Officer?  In simple terms, I'm the book-keeper and writing coordinator.  I also manage any gaming that may occur.

In not so simple terms, here's my actual job description:
  • Organize, schedule and run Naval-wide competitions.  ESC/HSC/other minor competitions
  • Organize, maintain, and coordinate the Naval's wiki presence
  • Keep a running list of the Navy's taskforces (ship listings) and major NPCs.
  • Organize and keep track of the Navy's gaming
  • Award medals/ribbons that relate to career statistics (such as the Writing Crosses and Gaming ones)
  • Maintain the VE's canon on the Naval side of things.
  • Provide information to those whom request it, be it past Naval stories, SW canon, etc.
  • May occasionally take up a writing role as the enemy in stories, creating plot twist and the like.

In essence, serve to organize and keep things running smoothly, hence logistics.  Carried over from the previous name of Tactical Officer, I also oversee tactical aspects of missions (canon of the aftermath, success or failure), and work with gaming.  As an unofficial role, but certainly a significant one, I also have oversight of the graphics that pertain to the Navy's canon aspects (such as ribbons).  If you have any questions pertaining to what I do, please most certainly do ask.  And if you have any questions as to what you may do to help, hang in there...

The Logistics Staff

Of course I need some assistance to pull everything off, that's where the Staff comes into play.  In place of a single Adjutant, I will be employing a Staff.  Anyone is most welcome to apply via PM to me, showing what they bring to the table in terms of the above job description I provide.

I'm am currently flexible on the amount of folks I am willing to employ, but I don't want a whole squadron of my own to send out to gather intelligence, else I'd be reviving Reaper

New Shinies (aka Medals)

All that glitters may not be gold, but you certainly want to pin it to your uniform, right?  Hence the coming of a few new medals to reward areas our current awards fail to cover:

Conspicuous Intrepidity Cross  [CIC]
Decoration for according recognition to persons who in circumstances of great peril, perform acts of the most conspicuous gallantry, or daring or pre-eminent acts of valour or self-sacrifice or display extreme devotion to duty.  Awarded only by the NCC or NXO.

Champion of Honour  [CoH]
This award is granted to those members who always maintain tact and behavior befitting of an officer, especially in the most difficult of circumstances.  Awarded only by the NCC or NXO.

Intelligence Medal of Merit  [IMM]
Awarded to members who perform exemplary duties upon the wiki, either adding significant content, cleaning up content, streamlining processes, or other noteworthy contributions.  It may also be awarded for other information gathering that is necessary, regardless if it is for the wiki or not.  Can be awarded pips.  Each pip is signified by a small markings on the black ribbon.  Awarded by the NCC, NXO, or NLO (usually NLO).

Intelligence Reform Medal  [IRM]
Awarded in cases of wiki contributions that are too significant to be awarded simply the Intelligence Medal of Merit [IMM].  One must usually make a large contribution of several pages that greatly improve the Navy's available information to be considered for this award.  Awarded by the NCC, NXO, or NLO (usually NLO).

Sunburst of Gallantry [SoG]
The Sunburst of Gallantry is a medal with a series of upgrades that can be awarded for overall activity and excellence in gaming.  This is different from the Crusader's Laurel, which is awarded based upon win totals.  The Sunburst of Gallantry can be awarded for general activity, even in the event of significant loses, or for significant accomplishments in terms of wins.  It has six stages to be granted.  Awarded by the NCC, NXO, or NLO (usually NLO).

Squadron Rings
Awarded for superior service while serving with a Squadron.  The member must be a member of the squadron for at least 6 consecutive active months before being eligible for this award. It cannot be gained a second time for a particular squadron. This can be awarded by the Squadron Commander or higher.

The reason for this new award is to instill a sense of squadron pride, which I know you all have.  But this gives you a more tangible means of showing in your ID lines that you served excellently within a squadron, even long after the squadron has been closed and it's legacy lingers only in the rings awarded to its members.

At this time, there are rings for only two squadrons:
  • Viper's Eye Ring  [VER]
  • Nazgulian Silver Ring  [NSR]

Realistic Experience Squadrons

As Denethor has stated last meeting, we will be implementing something called Realistic Experience Squadrons (RES).  Just what is this?  Well, first off, you can thank Driver for putting for the proposal, I am simply the one that is carrying out the actual implementation of the RES.
Atrasin wrote:The RES would allow for the normal and currently lacking accumulation of casulties, both wounded and dead.  The RES would pare the squadrons down to a base {player character} total of 8 members.  It would fill out the {remaining squadron spaces} with 4 NPC members.

I believe that sums it up quite well, and here is how the squadrons will be laid out in the future (SCs do have the option of rearranging, this is the default).

OOC:
1-1 (SC) Real
1-2 NPC
1-3 Real
1-4 Real

2-1 (XO) Real
2-2 NPC
2-3 Real
2-4 Real

3-1 (FL) Real
3-2 Real
3-3 NPC
3-4 NPC

Atrasin wrote:The SC and XO would control their own NPC Wingman.  the remaining NPC's would be open for all the remaining members of the squadron to use (or abuse accordingly).

No NPC could be killed w/o the direct knowledge and approval of the individual SC. that way it cuts down on them all becoming 'red shirts'.

And where will your NPCs come from?  Largely from our extensive list of AWOL members and MIT (Missing in Training) folks.  Many of them have pre-generated bios, others will be filled in by Logistics.  This gives us about 2000 folks to kill off, which of course is always a growing list as folks go AWOL.  So, the casualties and danger of flying a TIE are now very real.  I do highly suggest that you avoid going AWOL, else you may find yourself killed off under this new system.

Proficiency Systems

Some of you may recall the Pilot Proficiency System from Arturus and Shazam.  Don't worry, it won't be revived "as is," but do expect to see a variant system that also manages to implement a pseudo-specialty-training feel to your character's development.  You are more than welcome to tell me what you wish to see in such a system, which is currently still in an overhaul phase.  Expect to see the finished product in January.

Closing

And, well, that's it folks.  If you took the time to read through everything, kudos, I underestimated your attention spans.  Be sure to keep an eye out for next week, where I will have a long list of awards that members are deserving.  And even ribbon images for the new awards that I announced today.  Also, keep an eye out for a nice detailed listing of the First Vast Imperial Fleet's task force listings, and even... something else.
