General consensus on promotions thus far seems to rest on the fact that they have not been occurring often enough. Proposals to correct the situation have been offered in these ways:
- A points system
- A descriptive outline
- A bi-weekly assessment
I agree with Drac that it may be wise to start off with the bi-weekly assessment first, just to get the ball rolling and see what can't be corrected simply through conscious effort. This continues to rely, however, on a loose basis of promotion requirements: a kind of gut feeling involving the passage of time since someone's last promotion, additional medaling/position changes, and as Ibram has hinted (I think, lol), individual occasions of phenomenal activity/innovation. So- do we maybe want to take a second glance, simply, at what we have on the books regarding the qualifications for certain ranks and then, if areas appear to lack elaboration, amend them as needed? And does Ibram want to elaborate on his reservations further? Or are there any other general comments about what's been said about promotions?

Welp- I figure we can atleast locate the pages on the Wiki where the most important data is: the ranks and their descriptions, and the positions and their descriptions. Let's get those posted up here. Then, we'd have to scan through and see if there are any prerequesites: "Senior Aviator's Exam and 5 months experience" for example. We mark those, of course, so that we can edit them as necessary. Then, using what we've learned, we can try to create a basic outline, from those hard materials, for how we're supposed to promote/position. From there, we look at what we've been able to gather and determine if we need more information on those pages or if the information is sufficient. After all is said and done, lol, we provide that basic outline to our commanders and throw it up on the academy for reference. And anyone can chime in as we try to determine these things, so keep an eye on what we're up to all you on-lookers. *crickets* Lol. - I made a separate post to keep the links clean and easy to find.
After briefly scanning through the ranks page, i noticed that there actually aren't any minimal service time requirements. however, i know for a fact that test do required certain ranks. also, many ranks specify the minimum or maximum requirement for certain position. many we no longer practice. For example, 2LT is required for SC, I wasn't promoted to it until a few months after becoming SC, Atrasin never made it to that rank while being in the SC position, and Ibram was just recently promoted. also, according to the page, i should've been promoted to 1LT long ago after a few months of SC, i was SC of Kaph for a year and half, never happened either. Hunter was made SC, but not promoted to 2LT, Drac became XO, but not the right rank either. Positions page also states certain things such as an FL must be CPO or higher with an SAE, SXO must be CWO with an MAE. Hunter just recently passed his MAE after making SC. and we clearly don't have a SCE anymore, in fact i've never even heard of it before now. and the same thing with ribbons, a lot of them were due to members according to the descriptions but were never given out. Yeah, we've ignored the rank requirements since forever. I think I picked up my FL position at PO2.

Are you referring to the pic, Art? Or my ID line? The line doesn't take up much more bandwidth, if any, than one using standard text. As for the pic...well, that's a chunk of Nazgul's history and should be preserved. (Especially since the Nazgul webpage is gone, taking the original image with it.)
