A shrill alarm sounded in Arturo’s ear, waking him from the daze he had been drifting in and out of.  He glanced at his console, and his sensors confirmed what the alarm had already told him: an unidentified fighter had just entered his designated patrol area.  Quickly, he powered down all systems, but kept the engines on standby.  The ship, which had entered the cluster of asteroids Arturo was charged with patrolling, slowly made its way across the cockpit window.

Not recognizing the craft’s design, Arturo watched it fly by carefully, waiting for the right moment.  At this distance, it appeared to be an “Ugly”, or a ship cobbled together from whatever  was available.

Pirate?  Arturo had little time to sit and guess, however.
 
The Ugly passed by without detecting the powered-down Interceptor parked on one of the nearby asteroids, and Arturo made his move.  He quickly brought all systems on-line, and activated his repulsorlifts, to get off the rock he was on.  As soon as he was three meters off of the surface, he kicked the engines on full, set his lasers to quad-fire, and evenly distributed his shields.  The TIE howled with the sudden strain, but complied, and before the pirate knew of his existence, Arturo’s Interceptor was tucked in behind him, 6 o’clock high, and diving.
 
Arturo grinned a little to himself behind his helmet, as he lined up his targeting reticule on the Ugly.  The craft, upon closer inspection, appeared to be a Headhunter fuselage with a pair of TIE Fighter wings grafted onto its side.  It was soon a glowing ball of gas and debris, however, as Arturo boiled off a piece of the port wing with his first quad shot, then scored a direct hit on the port engine with his second.  He flew around the explosion, and returned to his asteroid, to await more intruders, or pickup by a friendly vessel, whichever came first.
